A great course for beginners to learn on. Mostly par threes, with a few par fours and opportunities to "let the big dog eat." The course is in excellent condition and is really fun.
You have to pick your battles though, as the course is very crowded and slow. Tee times during weekdays is probably your best bet.
my friends and i graduated from the 9 holes and started out at this executive 18 a few weeks ago, and i gotta say, i LOVE playing here. short enough to walk and i can finally hit my driver on more than one or two holes at a typical nine. greens are in decent shape but the tee boxes take some beating from hackers :p
never really had a problem booking tee times but it seems like they book times a little too closely together b/c there always seems to be a wait at the first tee box. usually around the 4th or 5th hole everybody falls into their own rythmn and keeps pace. some water hazards and lots of sand bunkers (which my ball always seems attracted to) make it an interesting course to play. recommend to anyone starting out who wants something more challenging than sunken or blackberry.

This course is great for beginners and for practicing short game. The fees are cheap. BUT, and a big but, it is slow on the weekend. You will need lots of beer and/or patience if you play here. The other huge complaint is about the over-zealous marshall that pushed us (4some) to keep up with the 2some in front even though there were 4 holes behind us open. He was very rude.
When I first learned to play I would come here often. It is an executive course, meaning 18 holes that are shorter length an a championship course. This course is plenty challenging for me even today as the greens are relatively small. This course begins to challenge your game and makes you think were to put your tee shot to be in a good position for your approach shot.
The downsides to this course are the pace of play, which can leaving you waiting at every tee box for the group in front of you, and there is no real driving range (only driving nets) to warm up.

As advertised, a real gem in the middle of residential Cupertino. It's peaceful, and welcoming to beginners and kids too. Yet well maintained.
On this Labor Day we finished a foursome in 4 hours, saw a couple of deer, listened to the birdies chirp...a very nice place. P.S. The sandwiches in the Cafe are excellent.
a great short course for new golfers. pretty good value. 18 short holes can get a little monotonous, tho... i noticed people drink a lot of beer here.
Despite playing very poorly that day, I had a great time at this golf course. The grounds are well kept and the holes are interesting. The course is well suited for beginning and intermediate players. Even experts can work on their iron game here. The longest hole was 289 yards (I believe) and there isn't anything above a par 4. There's not to much room to slice however because of all the trees lining Stevens Creek, which runs right through the course.
I didn't get a chance to check out their pro shop but their clubhouse was pretty nice. It had a pretty good menu for a public golf course. I ended up eating a turkey cranberry sandwich and was surprised at how fresh the ingredients were. There were even almond slices in the cranberry sauce. Nice touch.

Great for Beginners; Practice your approaches & short game.
18 holes but only made up of par 4s & 3s, this is a good place to begin once you feel like you've graduated the pitch & putt courses. Because it has many par-3s though, the pace can get slow on occasion. Once our three-some was able to catch a single who was trailing a two-some?!
Watch out for the water hazards... as the starter will profess to seeing many, many balls that have been lost on the 1st hole. I don't understand some of the pin locations though... almost borderline unfair. During Autumn, there can be lots of fallen leaves on several greens. The course is decently maintained otherwise.
There is no full range (just netting) but they do have a decent size practice putting area. $36 for weekends isn't bad. Check their rates online as you may be able to save some $$ by booking online or through twilight.
A good place for beginners and improving players to work on their short game.
Deep Cliff is an excellent course: fun, challenging, and well maintained; surrounded by high trees and an abundance of singing birds. Every time I play here I always see many deer and am never let down by its beauty. The course itself is a challenge but at the same time is not horribly hard. The greens are nice and fairways sweet. I love the front nine here at Deep Cliff, it always makes me happy and just relaxes me. It's very secluded and tucked away giving you a real nice head change... The back nine as well is beautiful and somewhat more of a challenge.
The staff is friendly and the facilities are great. The practice putting green is large and you are actually able to practice chipping as well which is great! There is a netted driving range and the balls are a great price. The pro shop is small yet has everything you need to play. I have not eaten at the restaurant/grill but every time I pick up some brews on my way to the tenth hole I smell its excellence.
Anytime I am playing at deep cliff I have an excellent time regardless of how I'm shooting.
peace and enjoy.
For an executive par 3 course - this is my favorite. The greens are in good shape, the fairways too. The course makes you come up with good shots, and is good enough to reward you. But it is still challenging. Water on many holes, and danger of some kind on almost every hole. The play is steady and the grill has great lunch and food. IT is protected from the wind, so the weather is always peaceful. I truly believe if you want to get good at golf (ie. short game practice and understanding the important shots) you should play this course often.

Ahh, the 18 hole course that should actually be 9...
I have to agree with everything that has already been said about this place. Beautiful scenery, but thats about all they have going for them. They like to send out groups too close to each other for some reason, and it always causes problems later in the round.
I'll also agree this course has poor drainage. On the few times I've played here, you could see the effects of poor drainage and poor upkeep.
Would I ever find myself here again? Maybe...if I was with a group of friends who are trying to transition into golf, and on a day where I think I can just throw 4 clubs into the bag and play...
This is one of the better executive courses I have ever played on. What a find tucked away in the foothills of Cupertino. Shorter course (of course) is great for beginners as well as for iron play for some of us that have been doing this for a time. Most are par 3s, with a few short par 4s.
I walk the course, and it really is a nice setting. Lots of trees. Fairways and greens are well maintained normally, but do get a little rougher some times of the year.
They have a netted practice area (you hit the balls into the net), and a practice putting green. Also, a small pro shop. The grill puts out the usual golf course fair, but the burgers and hot dogs are really rather tasty. The cold beer is always a nice finish after moseying through the course.
Highly recommended for a leisurely round of golf.

Agree w/Rick below as this golf course is great for novice players and people that want to improve their iron play.
It is an executive golf course which basically means that it is not a full length course. (Par 72 and usually 6000 yards or more)
They have 18 holes, but they are all par 3's and a few par 4's scattered throughout each 9. A few holes with water hazzards.
Tucked away near the Cupertino hills, the surroundings / environment / views of the hills are great. Try it out as it should be a challenge even for the 10 handicapper.

Deep Cliff is a pretty nice golf course. It is located pleasantly in scenic Cupertino, among trees and quiet neighborhood houses. It is also near Monta Vista High School and the other elementary school and middle school. The location is very serene and quiet, perfect for a game of golf.
The Clubhouse has a very nice menu! I love the delicious grilled hot dog, hamburgers and fries. They are very fresh and tasty, way better than local fast food joints. The chef is also very nice and friendly. The prices are okay, but on the higher side, but it's a golf course, what do you expect?
This is a nifty little executive par-3 course. Most par-3 courses are only 9 holes. However, they have a full 18 holes here, including 6 par-4s. This is a perfect course for beginners. It's incredibly short but the scenery is really nice. For those people that are more adept golfers, most of the par-4s are driveable with exception of two dog-legs.
Unfortunately, both times I've played here was the day after it rained. The drainage is very poor and a few holes were unplayable due to standing water. The driving range is nothing more than a couple of nets. It can be next to impossible to get a tee time on the weekends.
The Club House has a typical golf course restaurant, although the food is not quite as good as your average course and the seating area could use a good cleaning. The pro shop is extremely small.
Other people have rated this course 5 stars. Compared to other executive courses, I would agree that it is one of the finest I've ever seen. However, I prefer to rate all courses on the same scale regardless of their length, hence the 3 stars.
This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars for hosting the 16th hole where I shot my first birdie. Dare I hope for more to come?
For a beginner slowly easing into the world of 18-holes, I think the plentiful par 3 holes are a wonderful start to learn how to pace yourself through the course. Since it is mostly par 3 and par 4s, they only offer pull carts rather than a golf cart. So, be prepared to walk the course. I agree with the other reviews that the scenery is quite nice.
The greens are really quite fast here, or at least faster than what I'm used to. There are a few interesting holes so it's not entirely boring. A chipping green and a netted range is available for a quick warm up.
I am giving this course 2 stars based solely on 1 irritating visit. Take this review for what it is... catharsis.
The Good:
- For an "executive course", this place is pretty well kept (which is more than I can say for Dirtridge in Santa Clara).
- The price is right too.
The Bad:
- They slam the groups together so that everyone is teeing off within 15 minutes of eachother. Normally this is ok, but when you do it at an executive course where generally horrible golfers play, it's a recipe for disaster.
Take my experience yesterday.... They actually told us that we had to be at the 10th hole by 4 PM (we were teeing off at 1:45) because of a league that started at that time. This isn't unreasonable. Even really bad golfers can get to the 10th within 2 hours. However, we were stuck behind at least 3 groups of guys that had never touched golf clubs before. I guess you can see where this is going... We made it to the 10th tee at 4:09 pm and were told that we had to end our day.
To make things even more irritating, the "Director of Golf" was a d*ckhead about the whole thing. Copped a major attitude and treated us like we were children. Here's a quote "You're day's over guys. You didn't make it."
The "Director of Golf" was nice enough to raincheck the back 9 for us (he made it seem like he was doing us a favor), but the fact that they even had to do that is ridiculous. Why on earth would we have to suffer for their course mismanagement or the fact that we were waiting for 10 minutes at each hole for the ding-dongs in front of us to take 3 mulligans a piece?
Would I go back? Only if the "Director of Golf" is canned or they begin to manage their tee times better.
Another great little hidden gem of a golf course tucked into a pocket in the Cupertino foothills. My friends and I used to play this mini 18-hole course when we were in high school. Not mini golf mind you, just a short course of about 4,000 yards that's not particularly difficult and is ideal for the beginner. Its really pretty too; a creek meanders down through the course and there are ponds, groves of trees and little hummocks and hills surround the whole course. And there really is a very high, steep cliff on the back 9 that is quite awesome to see. Great public course for novices, elderly folks or casual sunday golfers who just want to have a peaceful, enjoyable morning of non-competitive golf.

Fun course, adds a little "excitement" to the game. Good golf camp too for the young ones.
Very short 18 hole executive course with dirt cheap green fees. Course is kept in fairly good conditions. The greens aren't perfect but puttable. This is a great beginner's course and you definitely see beginner's here. I'm just glad the first thing they were taught about golf is how to say "foreeeeeeeeeee!' Most of the holes are Par 3s, and there's only about 2 holes where you have an opportunity to whip out the 3 wood.
Cheap Cliff is the bomb. The greens here are spectacular, I feel like I'm playing in a PGA tournament....then I snap back to reality when I look at my scorecard.

Well, I'm giving this course three stars even through to be honest, it's kind of a compact course. It's actually a 9-hole with only two short par-4, all the rest is par-3. Also, I suspect the yardage is not very accurate. That's all for the negative part. Now if you don't bother keeping your woods in your bag and keep your barbarian drives for another day, this is a pleasant little course for short after work games, kindly priced ($16 a super twilight), the staff is very friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and it is well kept.
Great exectuive course for beginners. My GF loves this course. Nestled in the hillside with some fun holes makes this course fun and enjoyable. Definately a good course.
I went there a couple of times. beautiful scenery, sort-of-difficult holes (trees and little ponds, creeks), but the big problem is most of the holes are too short.. too many 3s, short 4s, and i don't remember if there is a par-5 hole or not. (maybe one).. but it's good. a pretty petite link.
