5 reviews for Deep Blue Bar & Grill
The food was superb and the service was outstanding!
I had dinner with my girlfriends at Deep Blue, we'd never been to Delaware before.
We started with the spinach salad w/shaved fennel, gorgonzola, and warm bacon dressing- excellent.
I got the spiced scallops over a butternut puree- sooooooo tasty.
Jen got the miso mahi mahi- amazing.
Shontell had the shrimp tortellini- it was okay, disappointing next to the other dishes.
For desert I had the cinnamon and pumpkin cheesecake and it was fabulous.
The dining room is elegant. The service was topnotch and attentive.
I highly recommend having a special dinner here.
Deep Blue was one of the best concierge recomendations ever been to and place to try if in Wilmington.
I'll just have to say I have never had fresher calimari. You can tell by the crunch of each bite of squid. Second the plumpest grilled scallops and finally perfectly seared tuna for a nicois salad.
A small town but great restaurant if looking for fine seafood you'll be hard pressed to find better in cities ten times this size
I can only speak to the bar/lounge portion of the restaurant, so here ya go:
Tasty drinks poured with a medium hand, seating for about 20 in the lounge area, but there's plenty of room to stand and mingle.
If you're seeing a band there, they always crank the sound system up, so if you're senstive, bring ye olde earplugs.
Protip: Whatever time the band is scheduled to start playing, you'll wanna arrive 15 minutes early so you can have a place to sit, if you're not the standing type. (See previous note on there's only room for 20 people to sit.)
Photographers from The Spark (Wilmington's free paper) often has photographers lurking about, so don't look like a schlub; your picture will appear in their paper or on their website (if you have my luck, usually when you're at your shiniest or mouthfulliest). You've been warned.
Lastly (and this is just so I stop forgetting this): They have a coat room, so you don't have to fight with your stuff while trying to find a place to sit/stand.
Deep Blue definitely gets points fo atmosphere, and for that swanky-just-finished-my-ultra-cool-job-as-a-leming -at-BofA-and-now-I-need-a-drink feeling. I met Noah there, pre-theater, for a drink and a bite at the bar. I love the bar top, it's some type of unpolished marble or granite, and I ordered my favorite old school cocktail, a 7&7. It came icy cold in a big glass, and waited for Noah. All types of people where there, and it was fairly crowded for a Tuesday, but that may because it was a theater night.
Noah came and we perused the menu. Deep Blue offers a $35 three course prix fixe menu on theater nights, which is probably the best bargain there. Appetizers ranged in price from $8-$37, and entrees began at $22. Now, being in the biz, or at least married to someone who is, I know who Deep Blue uses as their fish purveyor. I know their prices (they're faxed out every week). And the markup is just incredible. Each place was priced probably 15-20% higher than necessary. I had a tandoori chicken appetizer that was pretty good, and Noh had a yellow tomato salad. One cocktail and two beers, and our check was $40. At least they validated parking.
Excellent for take out!
In Wilmington for a couple of days of meetings and was looking for someplace close to the hotel to grab some dinner to take back to my room. I ordered the Saku Tuna Tartare, Mixed Greens and Fresh Berries ($30 + tip in total). They packed everything up nicely, separate containers for the salad dressing, butter, and whipped cream for the berries and fresh bread.
The tuna tartare was amazing; very fresh with a tangy sauce for dipping.
The staff was friendly and helpful and packed everything up in a little tote bag for me.
I will definitely be back on my next trip!
