"How do you say...DE-AMAZING???" I just got my hair cut by Angelina and it was TOTALLY worth the wait!!! She gave me exactly what I was looking for but didn't know how to articulate and made my hair look FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC! I cant stop running my fingers through it and looking at it in the mirror :D

I asked Angelina what part she liked best about cutting hair and she said "Making people look beautiful" and thats EXACTLY what she did ;)

Thanks Angelina!!!!!!!!

First off I don't trust anybody with my hair. That being said, I had my hair cut by Rachael. She was the probably the friendliest person who has ever cut my hair. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do with my hair at the time but had a general idea of how I wanted it styled. She gave me helpful suggestions and ended up doing a great job cutting and styling it. During the appointment, we talked about all sorts of things. She always has interesting things to say and is great with giving advice. She even told me about great shops and restaurants to go to in Sacramento.

Now that I moved back to L.A. I'm sad that I have to find another stylist.  Overall Rachael is a great stylist and knows how to properly cut hair and treat her customers. You won't be let down if you go to her for a haircut.

First off, I'll say that I had my haircut done by Scheilah, who was probably the sweetest hairstylist I've ever had. She set me up with a glass of wine and the entire time told me about all of the great places to visit in the area since I had just moved here.

I showed her a picture of a haircut I'd gotten about a year ago, and that not a single stylist has been able to recreate. It was a bit choppy and done with a razor, so I know that posed a challenge.

Scheilah did an amazing job. I'm happier with this haircut than I've been with any other haircut I've had in the past year. The color looks great, the cut looks great, and I feel awesome everytime I wear it down.

When I paid, I was taken aback by the $100 price tag on my color, since I have never paid more than $60 for a color. I've never been one to complain about a price, but I was honestly just stunned. I hadn't checked on the prices beforehand, as the haircut price was reasonable and I just assumed the color would be in the same range. Boy, was I sure knocked on my butt! The receptionist saw the shock on my face and I couldn't help but say, "Wow, that was expensive! I had no idea!" especially since their website puts highlights at $100+ and I'd only had a color.

The receptionist quickly fetched Scheilah who adjusted the price to something special for a first time client and a client who truly should have done her homework.

I'd recommend Scheilah to all of my friends, and let me tell you--I am NOT an easy haircut client to please. I'm extremely picky, and Scheilah could probably corroborate that! The whole way I was telling her what I wanted and what I didn't want, and asking her to do this or that, and she was so sweet about listening. She didn't once seem to get annoyed, but did an awesome job working with me.

5 star love.

My wife and I got married in Cancun and asked Angelina to attend our wedding as our friend.  As a wedding gift, Ang did my wife's hair and make-up.  For an added bonus, Ang also did the bridesmaid's hair/make-up too!!!!  We were extremely flattered and appreciated ALL the work Ang did (by herself) the day of the wedding.

Ang made my wife look and feel absolutely beautiful on our wedding day!!!! If you don't believe me, you can check out our wedding pictures at:

You can also see the beautiful Angelina at work in some of the pictures.

Thank you Deeda and especially you Angelina!!!!

OK, so my girlfriend does get her hair done by Angelina (owner) and it always looks amazing! The same friend invited me to the DEEDA grand opening party way back when and I had a blast. Free booze, music and food....hell yes! Since I'm not currently in a relationship or guilt tripped into staying with a specific stylist because ..."she's-my-mom's-best-friends-cousins-girlfriend " I drunkenly decided that it was time for me to put myself back on the market and set a blind date with a new stylist at DEEDA.

It seems that my days of playing salon roulette finally caught up with me on this one. In defense of the stylist I did ask for something a little different. (more contrast with my color). I am a true blond and wanted some low lights.

The catastrophic color that ensued still plagues me to this day. OK. Brassy....orange.... burnt carrots....whatever you want to call it, it was ridiculous. You know it's bad when your boyfriend asks, "You paid for that?" (thanks babe...yeah.... alot)

Well, long story short, the stylist was young, looked hung over and had the personality of a shampoo bottle. The cosmos aligned and I got the worst color of my life. Too pissed, humiliated and lacking faith in DEEDA I took my hair debacle to a more 'blondcentric' salon.

I soon embarked on what was a year long process of recovery. The guy at the other salon actually had to work on me for two days in a row to get it all worked out. Needless to say , after all of that, the health of my hair was that of an obese child sucking down Slurpee's and Ding-Dongs while playing Mario Cart until 3a.m.

Yes. I could have gone back. Called. Asked for a different stylist. Truth be told I just figured the jig is up. It's time for me to settle down; it just won't be at DEEDA.

I AM sooo disappointed. I thought I found my salon. I have a great hair stylist here, cool aesthetician. BUT that all changed when my usual aesthetician wasn't there and they set up an appt. for me with their highly recommended aesthetician who flies there once a month from LA. Ok....so she calls and wants me to change my appountment 30 minutes later. I oblige but then I say I'm running 5-10 minutes late. then I get the big ax and get set up for a 6pm appt. that same day. That's ok. BUT I live an hour away and I set up my whole days around going to Sacto for beauty appointments and now I have to wait for 5 hours to see her at 6? AND i have 3 kids under 10 years old, a cranky husband and german shepherd with me in a farm truck? I'm ok with this, as I have an out-of-state business conference I'm going to this week- gotta wax the velvet on my upper lip and unibrow. So I kill five hours of time. THEN when I get there at 6, she's 10 minutes late, so I have to knock on her room to let her know I'm there. there is no one at the front desk. she tells me that I need to reschedule because she's leaving that night back to LA and that I didn't call them back earlier to confirm my apppointment. WHAT?!! I did, and no one answered the phone. I tell her that and she says, yeah, we're closed on sundays. Well then don't schedule my crazy mom ass on a sunday when you don't have time for me and my money. jesus christ. I just spent $400 there the last THREE months, and this is what I get? Some chick from LA telling me I waited for 5 hours, drove from the farm with all the kiddies so I can RESCHEDULE?  Damn. If I knew this would have happened I would have scheduled with someone else who actually HAD time to see clients. I am more than displeased. actually I'm disappointed b/c my other experiences there were positive. Only takes once to lose a client....damn it. I liked them too. oh well. that left too far bad a taste in a mouth to go back for more. customer service ranks high up there with end results if you ask me....

I am very, very disappointed.
I'm new to Sacramento area and was hoping that yelp could have helped me find a good stylist.....well, it didn't.

My hair is normal, a bit wavy. I wanted to get a nice cut and highlights. I knew my bill was going to be 140 bucks at least and because I'm not used to spend so much money on my hair, I was convinced this was going to be a happy and special day for me.

I had gone in to Deeda for a consultation a few days earlier. My hair stylist would have been a very nice girl but I don't want to say her name for respect.

There's no need to really go into details....
I went in at 3 pm and got out at 7 pm. Yes, 4 hours for a cut and some highlights...I couldn't believe it...

The highlights.
The hairstylist showed me some colors on her catalogue. We chatted about color for half an hour during consultation and I was sure she understood what I meant. I wanted to look a bit lighter, summery, but not to drastic. i have brown hair and wanted to give a nice sun kissed effect to my hair....
when the highlight business was done, I couldn't see much difference but I thought, Oh it's just because my hair is still wet....well, it wasn't....
it took me to get home to see that my hair had not been highlitened but almost colored....it was obvious that she did not have much experience with highlights....disappointing...especially after we had talked about it for a long time...

The Cut. This was what really pissed me off. Aside from the fact that it took 3 hours before I was somewhat content with my cut, she barely cut my hair when it was wet and just kept "taking weight off' when it was dry....
I went home, was ok happy...washed it next day and here we go again....

...for the 13894574th time in my life I went to a hairstylist that doesn't know hair cutting...

maybe I'm spoiled because I used to get it cut in Los Angeles at the Vidal Sasson school, or maybe I keep picking people that have no real experience....

I am upset now because I spent 145 dollars that I really could not afford, hoping to get a haircut I liked and that could last....now I'm 145 dollars short on my wallet and still aggravated when I look at myself on the mirror....
I won't go back to complain about it....I'm just gonna wait till it grows a bit and hoping that I'll find someone that makes me look pretty....

cool that they give out wine, products seem nice, atmosphere is cool, laid back, artsy and the girls seem a lot of fun but for that amount I think I should walk out like a princess...at least in Sacramento......

She was very sweet and we had a nice conversation but sometimes I wish hairstyles would stay a bit more concentrated about their job rather than asking everything about your like they really don't care about anyways...

dammit.....I learned my lesson, no more spending all this money unless you are SURE what you're getting yourself into......

Taryn is wonderful! Love that she is very friendly and a fun conversationalist without being over talkative, which can sometimes bug me at other salons. She really listens to you and I love that she never leaves you sitting somewhere with dye in your hair wondering when she is going to come back. Does exactly what you want and definitely knows hair, even crazy frizzy wavy hair like mine. She has suggested a couple products to me but has never pushed me to buy when I don't want to, which is so nice.  Had been having a very hard time finding a stylist worth what they were charging in Sacramento and I am thrilled to have finally found "the one" :-)

I've had the same stylist for years in Stockton and she is going to school and not readily available and by the look of my last highlight and trim, her mind has been elsewhere.  I decided it was time to try someone close to home and get a new perspective.

After reading all the reviews and procrastinating big time (and having a friend point out that my so called blond highlights are yellow) I decided to call Deeda and explain my hair situation and hope for the best!

I was set up with Rachel and coming into the salon, I was very apprehensive.  Rachel was ready to go and very friendly.  We sat at her station and I explained my sad hair situation.  She recommended a semi permanent color to give my hair a break and cutting my short hair a bit shorter (up to the chin) which I wholeheartedly agreed.  There is just something about "fresh-cut" ends!

We agreed on a pretty brownish-red color and I do have to say, I love the results!   Rachel is very meticulous and I appreciated the time she spent doing my hair and it was a nice change not being double booked with another client.

I would definitely recommend Rachel and already made my follow up appointment.

Taren and Jayne at Deeda rock!  Both times I have called last minute to make an appointment (and willing to try out a new hair stylist and esthetictian respectively) and Deeda has been able to accomodate my lack of planning needs.  Taryn did an amazing job with layering my fine longish hair.  I wanted to keep the length but add some style, and she did just that.  I have been to Mosaic and Suede salons in Sac but none compare to the great experience at Deeda.  More recently I had waxing done by Jayne.  She is thorough, quick and reasonably priced.  And, the best part, it was relatively painless.

So far, it's been a great experience.  I will be back again soon!

I love the enironment at Deeda, and the stylists are super hip and really nice... BUT, I had the WORST hair cut ever from DEEDA. I will leave the stylist nameless, because she was nice and really chill. BUT, my hair totally blowed. No pun intended.
I asked for a cute layered off the shoulders cut, like a photo I found... and I received the UGLIEST MOM HAIRCUT ever. At least, it would be cute on a MOM, but I'm 22 years old for crissakes! I'm looking for something more edgy you see. I explained to her what I wanted and I totally felt like we were on the same page while she was trimming.
When she finished, I actually thought my hair was cool. I failed to realize that she spent 35 MINS STYLING my hair when I told her that I normally take 5 to 10mins. She blew it out for more than ten mins. ALSO, she used 5 different products on my hair, then gave me a list of all the products she used complete with price and asked me if I wanted to buy any... shameful commercialism... I understand they think this is "useful" for customers but honestly if I like a product I always ask about it. I don't want to be pressured.
So, the moral is, I received a hair cut that was IMPOSSIBLE to style in less than 35 mins...
My hair was boob length when I went to Deeda, shoulder length when I came out, and 3 days later I had it re-cut by someone else and now it's chin short, cute, and easy to style. Minus the $100 of salon products. I completely wasted $45.

I'm not changing my rating or anything from the original 5 stars I gave it, but I just have to update to rave some more!

Deeda is AMAZING. I went to see Monet after... wow, a 6 month break or so and I haven't looked this good since I last saw her! I got a cut and color and explained to her I wanted a rich, warm brown without any red tint and it's exactly what I got, a smooth, chocolatey brown that fits my complexion perfectly. I changed my mind last minute and wanted to add a long bang and she didn't mind at all. With her, it truly feels like a collaborative experience.

So to anyone who is unhappy with Deeda, my only advice to you is to speak up! Our stylists are artists but without your voice they're not going to know what it is you want. Be specific if you're very particular about your hair. These ladies are all going to be accomodating as they want you to leave happy!

It doesn't matter who you go to, everyone at Deeda is warm and friendly. I've never been at any other salon that has this same feeling. I don't pick up any hints of people being catty to each other. If there is any drama going on, they definitely don't let it mar their customers' experiences. They feel like a family.

Thank you Deeda. You don't just make pretty, you make happy :]

As I returned my last book to the library, packed up my last box, shot off my last work email, this thought crossed my mind, "I'm really going to miss Mone't at Deeda."  The next thought, "Damn it!  I forgot to schedule a haircut."  The next thought after that, "I wonder if I can schedule a work meeting up here and then a haircut?"

Seriously, I love Mone't, and I love Deeda.  She always makes my hair look amazing, especially since I show up with no idea what to do and some vague directions that sound like, "I don't like to blowdry my hair, and I want to be able to still wear a ponytail."  Not only does she do a great job, she has great taste in music, and is super funny and easy to talk to.

Now, to schedule that work meeting...

deeda is trendy and, by association, makes me feel hip whenever i'm there.  i'm not hip, so that it could make me feel that way is some weird, voodoo effect of the place.

i've been seeing schielah for a few months, and i'm pleased to announce that she has yet to screw up my hair.  it could always happen, but it's the doubt that keeps me coming back.  she cuts my hair so effortlessly that i question how much i could possibly like the end result - she just doesn't look like she's trying hard enough, and that's grounds for suspicion.  sometimes, she makes some seemingly random snip that freaks me out and i think, you shouldn't have done that, schielah; you've really screwed up this time.

but no.

schielah walks around with this amazing confidence.  it's like SHE KNOWS.  she knows what my hair cut shall look like after it's styled and she knows what it'll look like after it grows out a bit.   thank god.

cut - $50.  for those who think that's expensive:
it's your hair; you wear it every day.
try to remember that.

I don't really like going to salons because I've got some ridiculous social anxiety about holding a conversation with a stylist for a hour, but I was at DEEDA for a hour and a half and not once did I feel uncomfortable or sit in silence.  I didn't even realize that that much time had passed!

Rachel was awesome and gave me a super cute cut.  I would definitely recommend DEEDA to my friends!

I went to DEEDA for a haircut. The vibe was great, and the stylist was easy to talk to and knew what she was doing. The only downside is that it was pricey ($70 including tip), and I could have gotten an equivalent haircut for cheaper elsewhere.

Deeda is as good as they say.

Angelina is COOL and good at what she does!  And she's down to earth and doesn't force fake conversations.  Bumble and bumble products are amaaaaaazing.  They smell great and don't weight the hair down.

Plus, the location makes parking SO much easier than in downtown Sac.  I heart Deeda.

Love this place. :)

I went there for the first time about a week ago because I've had some mediocre cuts at the same salon I've gone to since 7th grade, and wanted to try something new.  At this other nameless salon, their prices are much higher than DEEDA, they're a bit snobby and I've been charged extra/asked to schedule extra time for my next appointment because my hair is such a pain.

Taren, and DEEDA overall, is much more friendly and accomodating.  I told Taren that I wanted my hair cut, preferably with some layers to take off the weight on my long, thick hair and she went to work.  It came out BEAUTIFUL.  She did things I didn't know could be done with my hair.  Everything about this place, from the waiting area, to the stylists, to the results (not to mention the price!) is wonderful.

My only minor complaint is the itty-bitty bit of sales pressure for the Bumble and Bumble products.  I love the stuff, but I just can't afford the shelf of products that was worked into my hair.

I'm definitely ditching my old salon and joining DEEDA's list of returning cutsomers.

It's embarrassing to admit; however, in my almost 30 years I have never had my hair cut or colored by someone who was not related to me.

My Mom was a stylist for years, but retired some time ago. Rather than rock Tracey Gold's haircut from the late 80's, I took to styling my own hair.

As a mother with a professional career, I decided it was about time I put on my "big girl panties" and got a "real haircut."

I needed something fun (but not irresponsible)... funky (but not TOO funky)... and EASY to style in the wee hours of the morning.

Having never been to a stylist, I put out a call on my Facebook for stylist suggestions. In truth, I received more precautionary tales than anything else. I did, however, get a sparkling recommendation from a friend who happens to have a lovely "do."

On her suggestion, I made an appointment with Karen Ko.

The day of my appointment, I stumbled in 5 minutes late thanks to terrible traffic on biz 80. As a result, I fully expected to walk in the door to a trendy Receptionista with serious attitude.

To my surprise, this was not the case at all.

The Receptionist was friendly, smiling and asked within moments if I "need(ed)" a glass of wine.

"Oh yeah. I'm going to NEED one, alright" was my prompt response.

I was then escorted inside where I met Karen, who is absolutely wonderful. She is everything a stylist should be: Friendly, stylish (adorable even!) and while she has great suggestions, was never ever pushy.

She took my vague directions and my disastrous mop and created something stylish, easy to manage, and beautiful!

I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair in my life. It's the haircut I never knew I even wanted.

The environment is both artistic and inviting. The stylists are friendly and stylish, without being "over the top." (Who wants their hair done by someone who looks like they are using Aeon Flux as a model?)

This week marks my third visit to Deeda to see Karen and I would suggest her, and Deeda, to anyone looking for a new stylist.

In a previous review, someone suggested that Karen Ko might possibly be "magic," and I totally agree. Isn't anytime you head home feeling like the best looking version of yourself pretty darn magical?

I sure think so.

I have been going to Deeda for a little over a year now after following my stylist, Khyan, from another salon in Sac.  I really enjoyed the small, cozy atmosphere of this salon, and was extremely excited by the large array of Bumble and Bumble products available.

Right now they have a 20% sale on the Curl Conscious line with the boxed packaging.  For those with curly manes, I'm sure you will agree that we have hair that's hard to tame!  I'm so glad that I've been able to find a great stylist and a friendly salon for my Medussa-esqe tresses.

I cheated on my hair stylist and it feels soooo good.  I drive/walk/bike down 34th all the time and for months I wondered what that Deeda place was with the cool sign and the bricks.  So I looked around on Yelp the other day, and needing a haircut, decided to check it out.

I called up, not really knowing or caring who I saw, and was placed with Rachel.  Rachel is awesome.  She's fun and nice and super smart.  I was there for almost two and a half hours and had no idea.

Oh, and she cuts good hair.  She started with an awesome head & neck massage.  After telling her what I didn't like about my current hair, I immediately felt comfortable having her just go to town and do what she thought would work to fix those problems.  I love my hair now.  My bangs are exactly what I'd been missing since I had to leave my San Francisco hair lady.  And she cut me layers.  I never thought I was a fan, but I love em.

Hair cuts are around $50.  They use Bumble & Bumble products.  And they have drinks to drink, good music to listen to, and cool art on the walls.

I just moved back to Sac from San Diego and was EXTREMELY nervous about finding a new hair salon, but DEEDA is legit. I went to Schielah and she did the most amazing job! I finally got up the nerve to switch from the side bang to the full bang and I couldn't have asked for a better cut. She was confident, amazingly friendly and did exactly what I wanted her to do. She did such a great job in fact that I called up my sister the minute I walked out the door and told her to make an appointment with Schielah the very next day...which she did. Needless to say, she adores her hair as well. I will definitely be back.

P.S. I didn't go into the decor of the salon, but if you're artsy and enjoy creativity, like me, you'll die. : )

Hmm I get a little suspicious when salons have only great reviews and 5 stars.  Needless to say I did get a really great haircut here from the owner, Angelina.  She gave my long hair kind of this Bridget Bardot look and I left with this sexy pretty hair so no complaints there.

Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky with the color.  I had a bad self dye job before and I asked for the red to be taken out.  It came out looking redder then before.  It wasn't bad looking at all just not what I had asked for or wanted.   So I ended up paying $150 for a great haircut and unwanted red hair.  Plus $35+ dollars for a bubble and bubble product that ended up doing nothing but was highly recommended.   I would defiantly go back for a haircut and I love the look of the place and the cuffs apparel inside.

So, for 12 years I had hair down to the middle of my back.  I was thinking about letting it go - big life changes and it just seemed like the right time.

I knew Angelina from when she was waitressing at 33rd Street Bistro, and had heard she was at Spanish Fly and then that she had opened this place on 34th Street.  Cool - I could walk there from my office.

I went in on a Friday, just to check the place out and was warmly greeted and given the grand tour.  Nice, fun space - nice, fun people.

So the following Monday I decided, heck yeah - I'm cutting it off.  Called to see if I could come in that day (while I still had my courage up).

Maybe I shouldn't be telling you this part - they said normally they're closed on Mondays but that they'd call Shiree and see if she'd be available.  "Oh, no," I said, "You don't have to do that - I can come in later."  "No, it's no trouble at all,"  I was told.  About 20 minutes later I hear back from Shiree directly - sure, she'd be glad to do it.

So, in I go.  I can't tell you how great this experience was.  Shiree listened carefully to what I wanted.  Every step of the way she would say something like, "Ok, now, we could do this or that or the other.  I think it would be best if we did it like so.  What do you think?"  I always thought her ideas were great and the hair cut was perfect - beyond anything I could have imagined.  After having all that hair for all that time, it was a very big deal to me, and it couldn't have gone better.

My highest recommendation.

I went to DEEDA and had a cut and color from Emily.  I was nervous, given that I had "virgin" hair.  However, Emily offered great ideas and gave me great results!  I finally realized why people pay good money for great cuts.  I found her very easy to share ideas with and get an honest perspective on what cutting-edge and chic look would be best on me.  The cut was beautiful both with a blow-out as well as on a wash-and-go day.  Her eye for color and technique is precise and I have been to her several more times since, and left feeling great.

My hair has never looked so good thanks to Mrs. Lenka, and Monet works wonders with makeup. ANDDDD you can buy Cuffs clothes and accessories while you're there! Everyone is crazy nice and its a really laid back environment.

Hands down the best haircuts I've ever had!  Mone't did my cut and color both times I've been here and she's great, super friendly and professional.  It's has been a really great experience both times  I've gone.  I have somewhat ethnic hair, I'm Japanese and Irish with fairly coarse hair, she lifted then dyed vibrant red streaks of red in my hair, it's amazing, I get compliments everywhere I go.  I'm writing this review today because I was on my way to go to Deeda for my 6 week-er and a coworker compliments on my hair!  She's like I love your haircut, six weeks later and I still have a rockin' do!! Love my hair!

The salon looks great, and the staff is very welcoming, they made me feel very comfortable.  Lets see, make sure you park on the street don't park in the lot to the left, they'll tow ya!  Street parking is always available, so it's not a big deal at all.

I've been working up the courage for months to try out a new hair salon.

I seem to have mild panic attacks upon entering a hip salon. I usually work myself up with a pep talk before entering, "Don't let them make you feel frumpy, so what if all those stylists are thin and beautiful and stylish? You, my dear, have managed to pull off suburbia librarian chic! Yes, yes you have! You are Salvation Army maven!".

... and then I walk in and all is shot to shit because not only are all the stylists fashion forward, hip, beautiful and thin ... THEY KNOW IT AND have no problem with reminding you that you, dear, ARE NOT ONE OF THEM.

And then, I found Deeda :)

Oh yes, it looks like one of those confidence shattering salons and yes, everyone working there is gorgeous ... but it genuinely seems like their goal is to make you look and feel gorgeous too.

I was offered water/tea by the same girl (I wish I had asked her name!) who did my shampoo. She was a total sweetheart and gave a pretty good head massage. There was a little bit of a sale talk while she washed my hair but she didn't make me feel pressured to buy at all (though I did walk out with some product that day).

My stylist was the owner/proprietor Angelina. She studied the pictures that I showed her and asked me questions to get a feel of my daily routine. Would I be able to blow dry my hair like that each day? Do I have a one inch curling iron to get the waves in? Etc. She even wrote down what products she used and how she layered them. She mentioned that if I needed help while practicing at home (eloping in 2 weeks, doing my own hair) to give her a call. Super sweet! She gave me a hug and wished me well and off she went to go make someone else pretty :)

The ladies at the front desk were very friendly as well, I believe one of them was Angelina's sister-in-law. They didn't make me feel awkward when I brought up their Myspace promotion (Haircut FREE w/ product purchase! New clients only! ... check frequently, I believe it changes from time to time) which had me a bit nervous ... I'm not cheap, I swear!

I think I've found my salon. Ya'll better book soon, I have a feeling that this place is going to grow even more popular as they approach their one year mark. Good luck Deeda Salon, they really will make you pretty !

This place rocks!

I called because I was getting tired of my long locks, and needed a change. I had gone to another salon where (come to find out) I had been given the girl who usually works reception. Looking back I now know why. She gave me exactly what I'd asked not to have, and I thought I looked a good 10 years older with the cut she gave me. Anyways, it was a mess!

I called and got an appointment within the week. I was given Rachel.

She was super nice, and made it very clear that if I didn't like something, just let her know. She was open to all suggestions and I didn't feel the need for forced conversation. I ended up with a cut that I LOVE, and I haven't walked out of a salon feeling that way in a long time.

The price was moderate in terms of salons. I received a discount as a first time customer, but I believe the hair cut is normally $50, which isn't bad for a great cut!

I'll also be going back, something else I haven't done in a long time.

(BTW, she gives a great head and neck massage!)

I know it looks suspect when a salon keeps getting 5 stars but they earned their ratings. Schielah wasn't available and I got GIGI. Gigi rocks, she gave me a nice trim/updated style for $40.
She was really thorough, and spent about an hour cutting and straightening my hair. She didn't push any of the bumble and bumble products but was helpful when I asked her to recommend a conditioner.
I'm officially torn between going to Schielah and Gigi now.... oh the dilemmas in life.

Note: sort of a pain, but you can't park in the parking lot next to the salon

Update: I wish I had never recommended Schielah. I've been trying to get an appointment every time that I'm in town and she's always booked.

I visited Deeda for the first time after trying half a dozen other salons in the area and not being particularly impressed. Had my hair cut by Monet, who was extremely personable and made me feel right at ease. I told her I was tired of my hair and wanted something different, and am extremely happy with the end result!  I only wish I could style it as well as Monet did. They've definitely earned another repeat customer!

I have been going to Deeda since its opening, but I was getting my hair done by the stylists there long before that! Deeda is a wonderful salon, with even more wonderful people working there. Everyone is pleasant and highly skilled at what they do. I have been getting my hair done by Angelina for quite some time. Cut, color, all that. She even gave me my Rihanna haircut last fall and daily everyone told me I looked like her (I guess I kind of do?).

I have also had my hair done by Monique and Monet. Monique does my extentions and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. She makes it blend with your natural hair so well, and only uses good quality hair. I also recently got waxed by their esthetician and she did a phenomenal job.

They also have a nice retail area of Bumble & Bumble and Dermalogica. Also, the store, Cuffs, has "Cuff's Closet" in the waiting area of the salon, which has some cute items of clothing and accessories.

I would highly recommend Deeda to anyone. It's important to feel like you wont walk out of a salon looking crazy. You will leave feeling confident in the way you look, and I guarantee someone will either compliment you and/or ask where you got your hair done.

Salons are always a little intimidating and I was terrified about walking into Deeda at first.   Immediately, I was made to feel welcome and was greeted warmly by a girl at the front desk and was offered a drink.  The salon took over an old art studio, so the inside is absolutely amazing (totally my cup of tea).  The wood detailing, the art hanging on the walls and all the color made this place stellar.  My hair stylist was the cutest EVAR.  She gave me an amazing head/neck massage as she washed me hair....awwww.  She really listened to what I wanted and in the end my hair was peeeerrrfecct!  The owner made me feel like an old friend and thanked me for coming in.  Overall, a fab experience!

"It'll grow back."  That's what I kept telling myself.

Over the christmas break I convinced my husband that I needed a hair intervention, put scissors in his hands, and let him cut my precious locks.  In my defense, I was fed up with how long my hair was, how it kept getting in the way, the way that one single matted dreadlock kept forming in the back of my head when I'd wear my winter coats.  Also, our winter house is at 4500 feet above sea level, so perhaps I had a touch of altitude sickness.

Anyhoo, GT was supposed to cut me some sexy bangs.  I had pictures and grand ideas of what it should look like.  I came away from the mirror with tears in my eyes.  A MULLET!

My husband gave me a mullet.

In the middle of the desert it really doesn't matter what your hair looks like.  So I weathered the mullet with my usual blend of cool blase and utter hysteria, until we got back to Sacramento and after a week of going to work and meeting clients I realized that either the husband or the mullet was going to have to go.

I called around to my usual salon and it was going to take three weeks to see my usual stylist.  Having read the reviews of DEEDA on yelp, and liking the name and the building in which DEEDA is housed* (these things are important to a good haircut, no?) I decided to entrust the fix-job to Karen, haircutting specialist.  Did I mention that I had to go to an art opening at the Crocker that night?  Yes.  I needed good hair, and fast.

Poor Karen.  "It'll grow back."  She said, and began surveying the damage.  "Too bad he...um...went so far back...over here..." she said finally.   I chugged some red wine.  Do whatever you think you can to fix it, I said semi-calmly.

So she began chopping.  A foot of hair hit the floor.  I bit my bottom lip.  Good god, what am I doing?  "It can't look any worse," I said cheerfully while draining the wineglass.

Karen spent an hour working her magic, and I spent the better part of the hour appreciating the stylist stations.  The owner confided that a family member who designs Anthropologie stores assisted in the design, and that the wood is reclaimed from the lumber yard in Oakland.  The building itself is gorgeous inside, with grand old wood ceilings and raw red brick walls.

Back to the mirror:  Karen cut a crapload of hair - and yes I had to keep the tears back - I LOVED my long hair - but as she kept snipping and shortening and layering and fixing, the former mullet turned into a short, bouncy, sexy "do" with great bangs.  I looked fabulous at the Crocker opening (my husband's work was in the exhibition so I needed to look my best), and I looked fabulous at the gym the next evening (critically important to look your best while running on a treadmill), and I looked fabulous at breakfast this morning.  The only stipulation I made for the cut is that I be able to wash it, flip it, and go, and the cut works perfectly with my five-minute-morning-mirror routine.  It isn't every stylist who can take a really horrible whack job like me - I mean like my mullet - and make pretty.  The icing on the cake:  first timers get 10% off, so my better-than-sex haircut cost a measly $40.  Rock!!

DEEDA make pretty, thank god.

Deeda Deeda Deeda!!

What can I say...it's a pretty amazing place. The people the atmosphere the overall feel of the place is hip with it. But not over compensated for. Angelina has been doing my hair forever and she amazes me every time. Recently I have been experimenting with the waxing and it has been a very pleasant experience, and if you get waxed you know the experience is unpleasant in it's self.. Both Daina and Sheila are awesome and I feel 100% comfortable when I am with either of them. I would recommended them to my best friends and my sister. :)

If you are looking for a stylist with an edge thats not pushy and helps you look you very best Deeda is the place to be. You can even Shop at Cuff's while you wait... they have the cutest stiff and it's super affordable. Nice for a girl looking good on a budget!!
