Review Highlights
On my first visit to Decade, I only bought a greeting card. But I spent a lot of time browsing and was hit with sensory overload. There was so much fun stuff! I looked at their furniture (upholstered chairs, chests of drawers) and was impressed at the reasonable prices on vintage stuff that was in great shape.
I brought my boyfriend back the next day. Before we even entered the store, he was ready to buy the chair outside on the sidewalk. Once we walked into the store, he too was overwhelmed--in a good way. We took our time and looked at everything. We asked how often they get new stock, as we were looking for a sofa. They happened to have gotten one just a few minutes earlier. A staff member took us out back to the garage, and we found our perfect sofa! As with much of their stuff, the price was incredibly reasonable for a vintage item of such quality. We'd seen similar (and even sofas with far more wear and tear) at other shops for three to four times the price Decade was asking.
We paid for the sofa on the spot and picked up some cool sunglasses for me, a hip hat for the bf, and a birthday gift as well.
We had family members help us pick up our furniture, but they have a person they can recommend if you need delivery of a big item.
There is so much wonderful stuff at Decade that I'm sure I'll be shopping there again and again.
Decade rules. I was so happy to see this store was still there upon a recent homecoming visit to Denver. It's a great spot for gifties for all kinds of folks- guys and dolls and kiddos alike. They've got all sorts of fun junk, it smells like heaven in there, they play cute music, and there is a store cat. Store cat = I'm sold.
How is it possible that I haven't written a review for this place yet? I mean I go there so often I must have just thought that I already had. Anyway, I adore this store. They sell an eclectic bunch of stuff from frilly, fancy panties to furniture to baby stuff. I've bought countless earrings and purses from here that I still love. I also love that everything in the store is for sale, with the exception of the store cat (and probably workers).
It's a bit pricey, but higher quality stuff tends to be so that's no surprise. And the people working here always just let you browse without bothering you, unless you ask for help and then they are quite helpful. It's a dreamy shopping experience.
There are many things to love about Decade.
* Fabulously smelling at all times
* Gorgeous and interesting trinkets i.e. mirror compacts, candle holders, picture frames, books, pins, throw pillows, lingerie.
* Collection of very cute diaper bags
*Fashionable maternity clothes (This is rare, I hear)
*Great baby accessories
*Cute collection of woman's clothes
Actually, the only thing that is undesirable about Decade is the prices. It's rare to find anything that isn't at least double what you would be willing or expectant to pay for any given item.
I understand quality is sometimes something you need to pay more for but I find Decade's prices a bit excessive. I personally, guiltily, bought a great simple little black dress here a while back, on clearance, and still paid over $100 dollars for what essentially was a cotton sheath.
For those that can afford it, which nowadays may be few, Decade is wonderful store with intriguing offerings.
Cute store. Fun stuff for everyone in the family including pets!
Kids stuff is very cool!
cool jewelry too.
The only thing I find lacking here is the lame staff. Sure, you might work in a neat place, but come on! It is a store! Before I was spoken to by anyone in here, I had to hear about one salesperson's dating experience and texting experience as related to another salesperson.
Sometimes I have come in here and been totally ignored.
Now, I am not one who likes to have a personal shopper follow me around, nor feel that I am being watched like a hawk either, but it would be nice to be at least recognized as a customer.
Hence, this is why I will not spend my money here. So sad.
Very cool store on S. Broadway. From home decor to clothing, this place has everything. Great items for gifts or to shop for yourself! The clothing style reminded me of Anthropologie clothing and was just as expensive which was a bummer. :D
I bought a sweatshirt from their sale rack and I love it.
Great boutique. If you are looking for a gift or something special for yourself this is a special, unique store.
Everything from sexy dresses and art, to boxers and jewelry.
It's fun and imaginative and a great place for something different.
I really like this store! They have a little bit of everything. I could wander around for hours. Their store is laid out so that you can go around and around the same rack and find something new everytime.
Their clothes are priced like boutique prices, but they have fun outfits.
I always find something fun to buy!
I have so much fun looking around in this store. It is cute and fun has everything. Even my boyfriend finds stuff he likes here. They have beautiful silver jewelry and accessories that make me with I had more of a disposable income.
It is just fun to be there.
What a great store! Everything they carry is fun and unique. While their clothes are a bit on the pricey side, I think that their furniture is surprisingly cheap for wonderful pieces you aren't likely to find anywhere else. I got a beautiful 50s-style kitchen dinette set in perfect condition for somewhere around $150 as well as an awesome dresser and a great hutch for a little over $100 each. Also, if you buy a large piece and meet them back in the alley to load it, they have this huge secret garage that is full of even more furniture since they can't fit it all on the floor!
Furniture isn't even one of their most obvious sellers - they have cute jewelry and accessories, some small housewares, fun toweltries, even some adorable underwear. And the back half of the store has adorable baby clothes and toys as well as maternity wear for fun moms. There is even stuff for pets! Decade may be a small store but I am always delighted in the quality things I find while I'm there.
What does hip and cool rolled up in shopping delight look like? Try Decades on for size. From a girlfriend tip I needed to find a place for my sister's baby shower. I was able to score some cute little people stuff that I know she'll just adore and I picked up couple of naughty fun stuff for myself too so I'm a happy camper.
I haven't felt this gleeful about shopping since I was nine years old and my mom took me to Cinderella City (which was the largest mall in America then.) As a little girl, being raised on a farm, I remember thinking, "I can't believe people shop like this!" I felt like I was Cinderella, bounding from shop to shop, in this tremendous palace, filled with treasures I could never have conceived of!
Decade brought back the merriment of newly discovered precious trinkets, wrapped in pretty packages. Everywhere I looked there were new bobbles to be discovered! A cache of colorful joy, in shiny cellophane. The little girl in me nearly wet her pants with excitement!
You will find... beautiful clothes, designer stationary, enticing bottles of lotions and potions, unique furniture pieces layered with peculiar jewelry and stone carved faces, uncommon ceramic gifts, baby delights, artistic magnets, notable decor, a warm hearted shop cat, trendy -yet friendly clerks, all tucked into this hidden-away little secret (that every girl wants to keep to herself) right in the heart of the city. For this grown-up girl Decade felt just like opening that magical wardrobe in the "Chronicles" movie.
Talk about retail therapy!!! I love this store! I have spent many a day AND hours strolling around. Whether burning off a week by shopping for myself or wondering around to find unique birthday, graduation and holiday presents!
It can be a bit pricey, but still worth it! There hasn't been a time where I have not been able to find a gift for someone! I once found a great bag for my close friend for her graduation. They also had a bowl full of "lucky charms", of which I purchased a handful and stuffed the pockets of the bag for my friend. Little "good luck" for after graduation!
Everyone who works here is also helpful and polite. They can always offer up ideas if you need a little help on what to get someone.
A great store to spend a rainy day (or sunny!) in shopping around.
Hugs Decade from the back and says, "I wish I could quit you, Decade." (Brokeback reference for y'all, even though this store has nothing to do with closeted cowboys. Not that there's anything wrong with that). I just wanted to express my love for this store.
If you're an obsessive window shopper or browser like me, LEAVE YOUR WALLET AT HOME. There is so much that I want to buy here to fill up my nearly empty apartment. Sigh. I promise you, owners of Decade, that one day I'll stop browsing your store for the hell of it, and I'll buy something soon. After I pay the bills. And eat.
But I digress.
This shop is located in one of my favorite Denver neighborhoods, and it is one of my favorite CO boutiques. I'm surprised it took me so long to review it. The store itself is pretty big, and jampacked with all types of girly necessities.
Flowery toiletries, one-of-a-kind jewelry and hair accessories, cards, candles, etc. The clothing is cute, worth taking a gander at. It's pricey, but quality made, and unique.
Decade also has a small selection of vintage-type furniture. I'm jealous of the people who walk out of the store with that merchandise, because it's cute!
The back of the store is dedicated to those of us (not me) with child. I venture away from that side of the store, but from the looks of it, there's some interesting items for the pregnant gals. Another section is for the risqué girls who want to show their man something nice or just feel good lounging at home in some cute lingerie.
Good service, good merchandise, and a good cat.
Yep, I said cat. There's a store cat that wanders around the store while you're looking. Don't worry, he or she doesn't crawl over everything (this is a plus for me since I have TERRIBLE allergies).
I wish I could quit you, Decade.
I always love going into Decade because I am sure to find something fun for myself or a friend. I really like the diversity this store has. From slinky and sexy, to bold and sarcastic, you can find the perfect gift for whatever personality type you are looking to please.
I tend to shy away from the clothing as it is insanely expensive and I can usually find something similar elsewhere for a lower price, but I have had my moments of weakness.
I also love the prego/baby section in the back. Since I plan on having no babies of my own, I spoil the crap out of the one niece I already have and plan on doing the same for my second niece/nephew due in July. While things are slightly more pricey, there are somethings I just can't resist (like a cardboard A-Z book of "Stuff on My Cat").
I've recently had another little boutique store nudge this store out of first place for my favorite place to buy choch, but I still hold a special place in my heart for Decade.
I used to live around the corner from Decade and I would walk uphill both ways to get there from my new 'hood! Decade is filled with treasures. I think every time I visit Decade I lap the store at least twice, discovering new gems each time I round the next corner.
My girlfriend had a baby last night and I cannot wait to get to Decade to find her a unique, darling AND functional gift! A gift from Decade (for yourself or a loved one) is always well received, and you can find a special treasure on any budget. The staff is friendly and although you'll rarely see him unless it's after hours and he's lounging in the front window, the resident cat adds a fun touch. Enjoy!
Whether I am broke or flush with a bonus in my pocket, I can always find something wonderful at Decade.
My favorite thing about Decade is that they carry my favorite brand of lacy underpants as well as my favorite brand of cards and my favorite local jewelry designers.... I guess you could say that my favorite thing about Decade is everything. No matter what I get here, I get compliments on it.
When my husband and I moved from San Francisco two weeks ago, we played a game of what-would-you-bring-with-you-to-Denver-from-the-C ity-if-you-could? One of my answers was my favorite gift shop near our house there. He found the reviews on Yelp for Decade and urged me to check it out.
YAY! It is my favorite store from SF with even more! The bonus is that we live nearby, but the store has everything I loved about the other store: great gifts, fantastic cards, wonderful baby items and more with the clothing and furniture sections.
I guess I got there late in the card inventory part of the week, because they seemed a little low, but I was assured that more were coming. That's the only thing I can say that was less than five stars on my first visit (until the new stock comes in, then it'll be a five +!).
The store manager even helped me through the emotional loss of what I loved about SF and I'm even more excited to be in the new neighborhood now! Thanks for the warm welcome...I'll definitely be back over and over.
I wish my house would always smell as good as Decade does! Decade has really unique gifts, clothing and accessories. Their baby department is terrific and the staff is always very helpful.
This store is so dangerous! I go in looking for a gift and end up wanting to take the entire store home.
My husband likes the lingerie section and is then ready to go, so I'll have to sneak back with a fellow female in tow next time.
What everyone else said, plus they have a shop cat that saunters around with a sparkly gold collar. I actually went here just for the clothes based on the recommendation of a friend, and was pleasantly surprised to find all their other stuff, from home dec to naughty mousepads to kitchen gadgets to great purses (if someone knows how to repair zippers there is an awesome orange weekender there for like $15 on the sale rack). They have a decent-sized selection of clothing, maybe 8-10 racks for women and a few more for men, arranged by color; if you care about brands they do carry a few Free People items but everything seems to be very reasonably priced and is a refreshing change from the mall. I'm definitely a fan of decade!
Two words come to mind when first opening the door to Decade. Strike that. Four words.
Smells Good. (First Two.)
Bohemian Hipster. (Three and Four.)
YES, after perusing the Broadway used bookstores and thrift shops all day, walking into a store with a wonderful fragrance makes me feel like I'm alive and not a grandmother sifting through her worldly possessions in her attic.
AND...everything in here is so BOHEMIAN HIPSTER. It's retro chic, shabby chic, pithy, you name it. I particularly liked all of the onesies and baby gear for the new, hip mama. They had onesies there that said 'I am Not a Boy' (and vice versa), 'I May Barf' and some of theprettiest diaper bags you ever did see. There's just awesome things inside these walls. Ever see a baby food organizer? It's a funky little tree to put all of that oddly shaped baby food. Neat!
There's a clearance section in a corner that has really great deals. If I had a home, my greatest hope is for it to resemble, even slightly, this funky, sweet, amazing little shop with all of the great furniture and the fancy, lovely clothes and just the downright fabulous things.
I could get lost in this store! A great place to buy gifts or spoil yourself.
This has become my first stop for bridal shower, baby shower, and female birthday gifts. There's not much here that I can see myself carting home and either wearing or stuffing in my apartment, hence only four stars; however, there is a spectacularly varied selection of jewelry in every price range, making it a good bet for gift shopping for any female (or some male) friend or family member.
The vintage furniture is very cute, and if your budget allows it, a nice piece would make a great housewarming gift for anyone in the post-college to early 40s age range. It would look out of place in my tiny and sparse apartment full of rat cages and dog toys, but the Decade look- very bohemian- is fitting for homes with almost any middle price range decor.
If you're seeking a gift for a friend or family member whose tastes you're not certain of, Decade is a good start; after all, the selection is so wide and the store fairly large, so if they don't like it, include a gift receipt and they're sure to find something they do.
Want something hot to wear with your new man tonight, after dinner that is?
Want something hot to wear, after getting prego by your hot man?
Want something to dress your hot new baby in?
Want some cool retro furniture?
Get in here!
For some reason, I imagined from the reviews that this place would be full of unique vintage finds -- so I was a little bit surprised to find that the store is mostly full of cool, alternative lines of "stuff" ... the Dirty Girl line of lotions, fun kitchen wear like aprons and potholders, and a really neat section of kids' stuff. Unfortunately, their prices are kind of prohibitive for the average lover of all things cool. The lady working there was kind to me although I didn't pull up in a Jaguar (like someone suggested wouldn't be the case). I would say that this is truly much more a gift shop (with some clothes) than a place to come for home decor needs.
If you follow the "Stuff White People Like" blog/book ... well, white people would definitely like this place.
Beautiful and diverse bric-a-brac, cute clothes, trendy, elegant, silly with a kids section in the back. And they have super cute shop cat that test's all the furniture for comfort.
This is a great place to find a cute gift for a friend, a new dress for a night out and an awesome vintage chair...all in the same day. I love the mix of old and new and just the general feel of the store. The staff has always been helpful and nice to chat with. I've purchased all sorts of stuff in there - I do have a vintage chair that has been the PERFECT piece in my new living room, more than a few friends have recieved gifts from here, and I have a couple of cute items of clothing. Great local shop!
LOVE this shop! Great little home goodies, etc. Very friendly staff and an aloof store cat. What more could you ask for?
best gift store in denver for women (including pregnant women)
Yes, what the others have said. Definitely a place that any girl (or guy) would love getting a gift from. Even if the gift is for yourself!
Decade is a medium-size cute and fashionably laid out Boutique on south Broadway. This is a great place for mom and baby to shop. And, in fact there is even an inflatable pseudo-log cabin dog house thing for sale in the back that I imagine the babe would like to play in at home, or even while mum is shopping. There are some nice threads here, that aren't exactly cutting edge fashion designs, but certainly have their own unique charm and charisma! A lot of knits, fancy skirts and blouses, with a fall-colored palette and of course also some girly girl pastel pinks and purples for those more romantic moments. This store is a great choice for browsing, filled with fabulous shimmering knickknacks, which all seemed to catch my eye. I would think, "Hey, what is this?" And be lost for a minute in such an immaculacy designed nail maintence set of the like. The women up front remind me very much of Carry, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda, grouped together in a secret gossip circle, immaculately dressed and early 30's up front.
