My first Dean & Deluca experience was in NYC 3 years ago and it had forever stamped itself in my brain.....
The other night I made the discovery that they had a store here in the bay area! So today I went up to St. Helena for a nice holiday ride. I was so glad that my D&D experience was just like the one 3 years ago.
What made my day? The hot chocolate! D&D has the best! Thick, not too sweet and chocolatey. Just the way it should be! -

~2012~
I remember coming to this location of Dean & DeLuca in the mid-1990s with my family, we purchased gourmet food items for a Mother's Day picnic. Back then I was eighteen and not one for grocery shopping and planning gourmet meals. Fast forward to 2012, I'm a wife with a passion for gourmet grocery stores and cooking wonderful gourmet meals (usually using James Beard and Julia Child recipes).
Came here today and it was very busy as many people picking up gourmet food for picnics (some people even were having picnics outside the grocery store!). The area where they sell housewares, kitchen gadgets and such were dusty in the literal sense. I spied LAFCO, New York candles and soaps which I purchased earlier in the week while shopping in Los Gatos. They carry cowgirl creamery cheeses, gourmet Italian meats, freshly baked cookies, chocolates, wines- nothing special or out of the ordinary because I can purchase these all at our local gourmet markets.
The store looks tired and purely a shadow of what is once was in the mid-90s. I would come back here only if we were in the area. Customer service was decent, there were quite a few Dean and DeLuca workers buzzing about the store. Unfortunately, they no longer carry Frantoia Extra Virgin Olive Oil in their store- but thank goodness I can purchase it online. -

Mostly overpriced, but spectacular selection and quality. If regular cane sugar isn't good enough for you and you need some raw exotic sugar from a small pacific island - this is the place for you. :)
My wife and I always come here when we go to Vegas either for a quick breakfast (their homemade pastries are incredible) or a light lunch to go (huge selection of cheese + accompaniments).
It's nothing short of 'an experience.' They also have a very solid selection of wines (including plenty of $100+ if that's your thing). -

Yeah, no.
On the recommendation of a local, I stopped by here today for a sandwich and ordered the pastrami and Swiss on rye. For what I paid, I was not expecting thin, soggy bread and skimpy condiments (with the exception of the snobbery, which was applied with a spackle). And I know pastrami isn't exactly topping anyone's list of low-sodium foods, but this charcuterie was so salty that I was dehydrated for hours afterward. Service seemed eager to get me out of the door, even though I was the only one at the deli counter. Before anyone asks, yes, my appearance "reflected the price of the goods I purchased."
Quality costs, I know, but it seems to me that D&D expects its customers to pay a premium just for the privilege of shopping at a ~gourmet grocery store~ instead of providing an excellent product and experience. -

After out tasting at Flora Springs we walked over to Dean & Deluca just to view the selection of items in the market. While viewing the items at the Market Cafe located in the market we stumbled upon some good looking sandwiches. We ordered the Chicken Pesto Sandwich and the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich. We went outside and both shared our sandwiches and was amazed on how good both sandwiches were. The Grilled Vegetable had pesto spread on one side while having olive tapenade on the other. The Chicken Pesto had very tasty flavors from the chicken, pesto, and the cheese. This place has an incredible selection of cheeses, meats, coffee, oils, spices, etc... for those who appreciate the culinary arts.

This is my spot to grub in Napa. I don't get out to Napa too often so I usually get quick bites to eat, either at a taco truck or at Dean and Delucas. This place is a foodies paradise, but the deli if awesome. From sandwiches to other deli fare, you are bound to find something here... if not a stroll around the store will lead you to some yummy goodness. Awesome selection of cheese!

Their roast beef sandwich on dutch crunch is AMAZING. I think it had a lot to do with their dutch crunch, but still, the roast beef and ground mustard within was awesome.
Then, to top it off, they have a snickerdoodle cupcake and a boston cream pie cupcake. I couldn't figure out which one I loved best.
The staff is nice, totally unpretentious to our loitering and not deciding what we wanted between all the different selections. They gave us a tasting of their strawberry pink cupcake that I can't remember the name of.
They have a lot of kitchen supplies too. Which is always appreciated by this girl! -

Sorry folks this is not a relflection of the New York locations, Hannibal Lector would not buy his fava beans or Chianti here either. Infact this location may upset him.
It was'nt awful, just alot of space w/ empty shelfs. I left dazed and confused -

Dean & Deluca is perhaps the most inspiring store that I know. I'm an amateur chef and I picked up this hobby about 15 years ago. Each time I go into Dean & Deluca I get an instant smile! This place ROCKS.
I'm back up in Napa Valley / Calistoga for a vacation and each time I come here, I HAVE to stop into Deal & Deluca. I've already written a review for them, so I'll keep this short and quick...
My favorite section of the store is the meat / cheese section. You have proschuitto, salami, foie gras, pate, duck, boar, and all kinds of elite types of meat in this section. They also carry about 100+ kinds of cheeses - ranging from local creameries to international notable brands (from Italy / France / etc.). One of my favorites in the case has to be CowGirl cheese from Petaluma, CA.
But my all time favorite thing in this section is the specialty salts. You can find anything from truffle salts, to lavendar salts, to French salts, to smoke / hickory salts. Prices range from $16 / lb to $60 / lb (Truffle salt). I was *SADDENED* to learn that Dean & Deluca no longer offers pre-package vaccum-packed salts. A year ago, they use to have bulk salts in big glass containers & they used to pour your portions according to your order. You could buy 1/8 or 1/4 lb salts to try different kinds. But, now, they only have glass bottled salts with fancy lables that are higher-priced per ounce! Gone are the days when I could get $15 portions of truffle salt. Now, the truffle salt is $29.95 for a small jar. [Managers of Dean & Deluca: Please bring this service back!].
There are tons of jams, jellies, seasonings, coffees, fresh deli items, pastas, candies, clothing, wines, fresh fruits & veggies, and just about anything to create a nice picnic or fancy meal.
Dean & Deluca - I will always be a fan!1 Previous Review: Show all »

What can't you buy here? I mean, everything is literally screaming at you for a purchase. your taste-buds can run wild and your checkbook too! I recommend grabbing some fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, and a bottle of wine. Then find your favorite picnic area and enjoy all that the Napa Valley area has to offer.
Dean & Deluca is a must-see one-stop destination. -

I guess this is one of those places where it would be nice if you could afford to just shop here all the time....but they basically sell really high end (or maybe just overpriced) stuff for your kitchen. For me, it would be one of those places you go to pick up that random obscure thing that not even whole foods or bristol farms carries.

***Dean & Deluca is expensive and they sell a lot of stuff that is not unique or local to the area; still, there are some good things here to pick up for gifts or for an impromptu picnic***
The outside of Dean & Deluca feels a little impersonal. It is a big and plain looking building that feels like a warehouse. There is not much that surrounds Dean & Deluca as well (kind of an empty stretch of road); this kind of makes Dean & Deluca feel less integrated into this part of Napa Valley and more just like some random big shop that popped up out of nowhere.
The inside is also warehouse-like and much different from the Dean & Deluca I visited in Japan, which had a cozy feel that was similar to Joan's On Third (Los Angeles).
There are a lot of things at Dean & Deluca. They have gourmet deli sides, sandwiches, bread, coffee, baked goods, chocolate, nuts, popcorn, candies, pantry items, jams, picnic stuff, and so on.
I tried a few things here (like the black truffle and white cheddar popcorn) and everything was pleasant and good. Looking at the labels though reveals that a lot of the products/ingredients are sourced from other countries or other parts of the US like New York or Colorado. They do have some Northern California items (like caramel popcorn and Bouchon Bakery bread), but you really have to seek these items out.
Most items here were expensive, but I thought a few of their packaged goods were reasonably priced. Their bags of gourmet nuts (some candied, some spiced) were around $3 and I thought that was fair given that Dean & Deluca is an upscale shop.
Service was good on both of my visits.
Dean & Deluca has a lot of stuff and it is a fun store to browse. Also, if you are planning to do a picnic while you are in Napa Valley, you might be able to find that missing ingredient by coming here. They have a wide range of packaged gifts as well--gifts that range from small and not too expensive to big and pricey. Even though you might pay more than you would want here, the wide variety means that you will likely find something you like.
Dean & Deluca has its own parking lot and it is free (easy to find a space). -

During our week's stay in the wine country - we were in and out of this Dean and Deluca many times and can honestly say that each visit we found such helpful people. Our last day, though, was outstanding!! James, Catering Coordinator, has to be one of the most hospitable people we met. We went in at least three times that day - each time running into him - and each time he went above and beyond the 'call of duty' to help us. We also saw him go out of his way to help others. When we asked him for some recommendations for what to do our last few hours of our stay - he suggested a winery. He had never met us before, but when we mentioned the four of us were celebrating special anniversaries..he proceeded to call the tasting room and tell them he was sending us over there as his guests. We were treated so special once we got to the winery. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful week.
James, thank you so much for everything.
Oh, by the way, your ice cream picks - they were fantastic!!!
We will look you up our next visit. -

My boyfriend brought me here from hearing about all the ratings on Yelp. It was a perfect place for lunch. This is actually a market that I heard was one of the parent company of Wholefoods market. We went to the deli section in the back of the market.
My boyfriend ordered the roastbeef sandwich that came on a multi-grain bread which was super hard. It hurts to chew. Other than that, the sandwich was delicious. As for me, I ordered the chicken pesto salad sandwich as I am a fan of pesto. The pesto sauce did not come out to be strong; just the way I like it. On the other hand, it was too saucy in general and was messy to eat as chunks of chicken would fall out. I only had half of my sandwich and was full as it was super filling.
We brought our food outside to sit in this mini courtyard where you sit on ledges around trees. Luckily, it wasn't too hot the day we came for wine-tasting. The market is super convenient in Napa.
In addition, this establishment is across the street from V. Sattui's first vineyard. -

I think that I possibly had the BEST iced hazelnut soy latte here in my life. OMG. It was so good! They said their coffee beans are imported from Europe...wish I asked for the brand.
The ice was crushed and completely chewable. I'm addicted to chewing on ice, so I finished that, too.
They had so many different chocolates and sweets here. If I didn't already eat at V. Sattui, I'd try the deli here. Looked yummy! Maybe next time I'm up in Napa! :) -

I love Dean and Deluca. I wish we had places like this in Florida. The hubby and I ordered a prosciutto sandwich that was literally to die for.
They also had a nice selection of beer which was exciting for the hubby because we had only had wine all day. They also had a nice selection of cheese which they let you sample. -
Review from Naomi K.
Yes, this place is pricey, but the food is so good. Perfect place to grab a sandwich, some unique cheese and crackers and other picnic items. There's a few seats along the rims of the treeplanters overlooking the vineyards of Hall in the back. There's also a few cute birds ready to snatch your crumbs when you are done too. :)
Cheese, coffee, fancy hard liquor, tea drinks, expensive bottled water... they have quite a selection. -

This place is perfect for foodies and home cooks looking for high quality products. I can spend hours here with the wide selection of artisan chocolates, cheeses, pastries, cured meats, spices, local produce, and more. D&D is one of the few places where I can find certain premium products like Jamon Iberico and Mariage tealeaves. Prices tend to be on the high side.

Dean & Deluca! How I've missed going to you in New York, and now, surprisingly, you've popped up in Napa. Dean & Deluca is actually located right across the street from V. Sattui. They were selling food at the winery, but why wait in line in the sun when you can have an awesome sandwich at Dean & Deluca?
This location is actually decently sized (comparable to the SoHo location). Lots of wine, coffee bar, deli, etc. Pretty much everything you need for lunch, and an afternoon snack. If you've never been to a Dean & Deluca, it's more or less like Whole Foods.
For me, I opted to get a cappuccino and a roast beef sandwich for lunch. Sandwiches run about $9; a little more expense then you'd normally be paying, but it's pretty tasty. Also, if you're a fan of all the independent beverage companies like the ones they carry at Whole Foods, then Dean & Deluca will keep you satisfied.
Aside from the sandwiches and drinks, they do have a decent wine and cheese selection. Good food, clean market, and most importantly, it's away from the sun and has plenty of A/C.
Loved Dean & Deluca in New York City, love it in Saint Helena.Listed in: Top Restaurants

OK, this is the only Dean & Deluca in California.
Had to stop by since I was in Napa to have great sandwich and pastries and did not disappoint at all! -
Review from Gelene V.
Definitely a cute place with a cute decor to grab some kitchen supplies & ingredients. We also stopped here to get some lunch on our drive up to Clear Lake. I got the pesto chicken sandwich which was good, but not great..
It's on the pricier side, but since you are around the wine country area, what do you expect?
Probably not a place I'd be dying to come back to.. but might make the occasional stop for lunch if I'm in the area :) -

Came here with a bunch of friends.
It was an awesome day and we had our run with wine tastings. We ended up here to pick up some phenomenal picnic treats.
Napa Valley is an amazing "fancy" experience. Much of their produce is grown on local farms and many of their cheeses are made from local artisans. Due to our positive buzz, we ended up with a lot of tasty treats.
4 stars for Dean & Deluca = with good company & good food :) -

Really great place to get really overpriced stuff. It's good stuff, I wont deny that, all fancy and imported and pretty and spicy, but it will break your budget. 20 bucks for tuna in a jar? I'm sorry, I just can't! The booze selection is extensive, ranging from local favorites (Hangar 1 Vodka) to bottles selling for close to $2000 bucks. Staff were uniformly pleasant and I appreciated the Christopher Elbow sample, I love those chocolates. If you have lots of money and want a treat, or to browse eclectic and cool products, come here. Otherwise hit up Safeway for your bottled water and baguettes.

Delicious pastries, tasty Salamis and cured meats!!!
A must visit place while in Saint Helena. I can stay in this store all day if I could.
Fine signature cheeses, cure meats, pastries, chocolates and sweets! OMG, if only I live next door :) -

I love Double D's!!
Not those.
This day in Napa was full of bridesmaids adventures! Dean & Deluca was a stop on our way home and it was the perfect ending to our day!
Loves:
- Fruit in small wooden crates gave a rustic feel instead of the plastic ones at regular grocery stores
- Locally made ice cream fresh in there freezer with the flavors hand-written on each container.
- A huge wine selection (very fitting)
- A big selection of kitchen accessories and tools
- An even bigger amount of sweets from their chocolate section, homemade marshmallows, caramels, a variety of cookies, and a section that puts the sweet factory candies to shame
- The worker in the chocolate section that reminded me of Tim Lincecum sans the MJ
- The dessert section with beautifully decorated cupcakes from Sift (the Boston Creme was sooo good) and an assortment of bread, pastries and cookies from Sweetie Pies
- They sell Kika's treats there
- Raspberry Mascarpone from the dessert section that was orgasmic! It was like a deconstructed version of a princess cake.
- Refrigerated food section where they have small meals pre-packed and ready to warm-up or ones to eat cold.
- Their cute totes in several styles
- Sensory overload
The list goes on and on. If this is how it is here, I can only imagine how the New York location would be like. Anyone wanna take me there?? -
Review from Jim S.
I almost suffered an anuerism when my imagination kicked in to hyperdrive while peering in to the choices in the Deli case. What an amazing selection of quality, rare and intriguing choices. I'll take the Pancetta please!
Unfortunately we were just visiting Napa and did not have a kitchen in our room or I might have taken out a second Mortage to buy some ingredients for a gourmet feast. Someday when I live here, well I'll live here.
Stop in on your way by. They also have a nicely stocked wine shop. You will then have a baseline on what to expect when shopping for gourmet ingredients. -

What a cool place! I have never been to New York so I obviously have not been to the original Dean & Deluca there. While visiting St. Helena I was really happy to find out that they too had a Dean & Deluca location!
The folks working there were very nice and helpful with our order (we got some candy by the pound). She was happy to let us try some samples to help us determine which of the candies to purchase. We ended up with some peach gummies & chocolate malt balls. So delicious!
It was visiting the store right before their closing for the day, so I was hurrying through the store a little bit but took in all of the delicious looking items they have for sale at this store. I was hoping to stop back by before I left St. Helena but unfortunately ran out of time - but next time I am in the area I will be back! I'd love to have one of these in the Denver area! -

Everything expensive that you can imagine, they've got it here.
It's a nice place to peruse about, eyeing all the things you can't afford if you're a college student like myself. It's also nice to dream that you could possibly but most likely not be able to buy stuff here weekly for groceries. They have pastries from other bakeries, coffee they make in-house, and sandwiches made to go as well as other deli items.
One thing I noticed in particular about Dean and Deluca is that the staff is very helpful and friendly to you if you're dressed semi-formal or have style. I came in one day with a friend who was dressed semi-formal (tights, boots, a stuffy sweater) while I wore skinny jeans and a regular t-shirt and cardigan. I kid you not, the coffee/gelato lady ignored me and provided service for my friend even though I politely said "excuse me" a number of times. Not a glance! I didn't bother to order anything and she didn't even acknowledge me or say something like, "Sorry for the wait, what can I do for you?"
The next time I came back to Dean and Deluca, I just came from work wearing a blazer and heels and was greeted by everyone with a smile, "hello" and "Can I help you today?".
What the?!? -
Review from Laila P.
Do they have great stuff? Absolutely. Is it a rip off? You betcha! Is the staff helpful? Not really.
GOSH! I just have such a love/hate relationship with this place. The service kinda sucks. The one blonde girl who makes my coffee in the morning is grouchy. Maybe she needs some coffee? The nice people that work here seem to be few and far between.
But, all that said, they do have bagels from Golden Bagel in Napa which is great. They also have English muffins from Model Bakery, another plus.
I go here for things like breakfast sandwiches and coffee and maybe sometimes a fancy soda. But that's where it ends. The cheese is ridiculously priced! You can get some of the VERY SAME cheeses just up the road at Sunshine for a FRACTION of the price. And deli sandwiches for $9.20, believe me, they are not THAT good.
Tiny, but interesting produce section. No meats or fish to take home for dinner. So all-in-all, just a place to stop and peruse and pick up something small. -
Review from Letie W.
D & D is a gourmet market with foods from all over and has an extensive wine section. So much to choose from that I didn't even know where to start first. There's a cheese, deli, bakery, and fine chocolate/candy section. Great place to grab some food & picnic outside enjoying the incredible weather overlooking the wineries in the area.
Personally, I can't see myself doing my regular grocery shopping here without going broke. But I do think it's a fabulous place to treat yourself occasionally with their lavish goodies. -

San Bruno, CA
This place is top of the line for expensive groceries. Salt's and spices can rack up over $100.00 easily. Their vanilla beans are adequate but not for the price. I do like the ambiance of the place as it flows freely with new things to look at and different ways to be inspired. I've taken many a friend here and most get treated differently by cashiers, baristas, etc. if you wear jeans and a t-shirt/hoodie or what you would normally where to shop for groceries.
Note: Please dress according to the price of goods that you intend on purchasing.
The saving grace of this place are the gourmet sandwiches and exquisite desserts.
Most memorable order: Pesto Sandwich with Tomato & Basil.
Most memorable dessert: Cupa Mocha -

Two words: sandwiches and gelato!
Of course, D&D offers many other delicious treats, snacks and kitchenware but we always stop here to grab some sandwiches and gelato then walk across to V. Sattui for a nice picnic (sometimes w/ their VS's wines). -
Review from Erin O.
Dean & Deluca is an evil, evil place that serves a purpose. For me, that purpose is to spark the imagination of what I could be cooking, and then spending exorbitant amounts of money on salt. I've never seen a single place with so many kinds of salt, and I admit to loving it. I actually have 6 kinds of salt just from this store. Come on, they have Himalayan pink salt slabs, bottarga salt and alderwood smoked salt... this is a salt heaven.
Don't come here to do your normal grocery shopping unless you really want to overpay for ingredients. However, if you have an unusual need for a gourmet item, it's a great place to go. -

We got to Napa a little tired and weary and it was raining. We decided to spend our time in our really cool Napa Valley Cottages and relax for the afternoon.
We ran to D&D to grab some cheese and stuff to munch. Super cool store, very expensive and oontzy, but worth it.
The only thing I didn't like was the wine selection, the bottles were insanely priced, not sure if it's just the quality of the bottles they carry, but it was a bit intimidating.
The meat counter was awesome and I got some great Salumi to eat with the amazing cheese and crackers. -
Review from Hugo C.
I was completely mesmerized by the wall of olive oils. There was the soft and buttery, the full flavored and fruity, and that wasn't including the rustic and peppery.
And then I had to stop and stare at the wall of balsamic, wine and fruit vinegars. And then the preserves. Suffice it to say that there was a lot of standing and enjoyable staring on my part.
However, having to deal with the hoards of Napa visitors that were treating this place like an Arizona truck stop was not fun. I felt like we had all gotten off the tour bus and had only 5 minutes to quickly and haphazardly grab our bread, crackers, meats and cheeses before the bus driver threatened to leave our asses behind. The men's bathroom that was riddled with an overflowing waste basket was the last straw for me. -

LOVE Dean & Deluca. It reminds me of NYC . . . and the show Felicity. I love stopping by, even thought it's out of the way, when I go up to the Napa Outlets. They have a lot of great products, some of which I've only seen in Europe. Now, some of these items will cost you and arm and a leg but it's cheaper than a plane ticket. I love sitting outside by the vineyards with my cup of coffee and assortment of pastries. Even if you don't buy anything, it's still a great place to browse.
