Do you like to throw things as I do?
You should check out De LaVeaga Disc golf course.
I'm not great at this, but at least I get to throw things, disc that is.
Lovely setting, beautiful park to roam around and people watch.
Look at that guy, he's good at this. Wow, nice throw dude. I suck!
Be careful, heads up seven up!

While I'm not the best disc golfer, I love the game as much as anyone.
I've played courses from coast to coast with taters and toast and this is one of my faves.
The five stars are earned only under the right circumstances. Early on a weekday. In the afternoons or anytime on the weekend playing a round can take 4-5 hours with all the crowds of folks.
Still my favorite spot in town to drink and throw things as hard as I can.
Without a doubt the best disc golf course I've ever played. The course is challenging but a great place to improve your game. The variety of holes on the course makes every round interesting and gives you a chance to develop a well-rounded game. It is clear that the course was designed by pros but the regular rec-player was kept in mind. If you love to play disc golf and find yourself anywhere in the remote vicinity of Santa Cruz you need to play this course.

World Class disc golf course. This is the best course in Northern California as witnessed by the incredible stream of players lining up to play hole 1 on weekends and summer evenings.
Balanced and requiring all types of shots - short and long. Master's Cup tournament in the late spring - Faultline in October. If you live in NorCal and play disc golf, this is your Mecca.
Features two of the most famous holes in disc golf:
Hole 13 aka I-5 - Should probably be considered a par four, getting a three on this hole stokes even the top pros. Throw a huge, well placed drive across the first fairway and then throw an intricate upshot/2nd drive through (or over) the cluster of trees protecting the pin 550 feet from the tee.
Hole 27 aka Top of the World - can't beat the view - consider your Roc or putter. PARKING LOT!!

The De Laveaga Disc Golf Course is amazing. This course has it all: 27 holes (17 is gone but there is 8a), concrete tees, multiple basket positions, and benches and clear maps at every tee. But beyond that, the holes themselves are really cool. Lots of different terrain and types of shots, and a number of stunning places to throw from. And of course, hole 27 is a spectacular finale.
The course is pretty challenging. But not just in a long course sort of way. There are trees to avoid, fast greens, steep hills, etc.. It's nice to play a tough course where the main challenge isn't just how far you can throw. Beware of when the baskets get moved -- on some holes (like 12) it makes a huge difference.

Wow! 27 amazing holes spread over a vast area. All types of holes are here: long, short, wide open, closed-in, flat, uphill, downhill. Holes are well marked and nearly all have concrete tees. This course was challenging and beautiful. Play here.
One of the best places to spend the day outside in all of SC county. Great for stumbling around with a few brews and bowls, tossing the frisby around, or just hiking the cliffs and geologic formations. As mentioned, this is one of the best disk golf courses around.
great course, long and short difficult drives. a great mid range and approach game needed to do well here. by far the third best disc golf course in cali. morley feild and hahamongna park are the top two from the 25 plus courses i've played in cali.
not to take anything away from de la it is truly an awesome place to challenge your game. great views and so much fun hanging with the locals.
so i need to change somethings... morley feild in SD was not the course i remembered. way too crowded and not nearly as long as i thought. so de la is now the number 2 in my book. i never get tired if it even though i play it 3 or 4 times a month.
Disc Golf: a strange phenomena involving trekking around in the trees, throwing miniature frisbees of different weights (supposedly drivers, putters, etc... all of them went equally off course for me), and for many, smoking some ganja and hanging with buddies. While this was the proving ground to the Boy that I am *NOT* actually good at all sports (arguable if this actually counts as a sport, but no matter) we had a great morning here with a couple friends. Pass the beautifully manicured Real Golf Course and you'll end in the more rugged Disc area, which also offers great SC mountain scenery and even a couple sneaky views of Monterey Bay. It's probably more fun for those people we saw whipping their discs on huge drives across the fields and miraculously curving around trees, but as a first-timer I still appreciated this was a cool course. There's even a guy selling discs in the parking lot if you get inspired to add some new discs to your quiver.

As a recreational player whose played perhaps 7 disc courses across the West, I'm going to claim thatt this is truly a "World Class" course for the following reasons: Ridge top setting with tee boxes and baskets nestled and often hidden amidst towering redwoods and thick underbrush (watch out for poison oak). 27 baskets, regularly moved to keep the regulars on their toes. While all are par 3's, some drives are quite long and more like a par 5 for most. Highly technical layout--even the close tees require accuracy and curve throws to get around the obstacles. Lots of elevation change. Who says you can't get a workout playing disc? Good comraderie. Yeah, the occasional knucklead tries to play thru without asking and then yells "fore!", but for the most part this is a chill bunch out to enjoy the scenery, some company, and maybe something else. High level of play. If you are new to the game and aspire to improve, there are alot of good players here to learn from. Some days the dirt parking lot has more cars than the "real" golf course down the road. "Lost disc" honor box. If you find a disc, drop it here. Lost yours? Take a look and hopefully be reunited. Got the munchies or need a new disc? The disc van is here to serve you. Tips: try and go with someone that has played the course as its not always easy to find the next tee box. When in doubt, throw soft--its easy to slice one down into a gulley or up into a tree, and much harder to find or retrieve your disc. Leave the long technical throws for those that have played it before. All in all, a great, positive activity. Please, only leave footprints!
