Fantastic new DOG FRIENDLY  lakeside cafe now open!

Talk about the perfect setting, located inside of Berger park, next to the coach house, directly on the lake, this open air cafe brings some much needed fun and music to the block.  It has been totally rehabbed from it's previous status as a summer cafe- the new place is outstanding!

Live music is featured on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.  Tonight, one of the musicians from Sonia Dada was going to play, I could not stay, but how exciting!  In addition to great music, check out the view, if you were any closer to the water, you would be wet.

For parents, this cafe offers the opportunity to sit back and watch your kids play on the equipment at the park as you consume some coffee and devour a muffin.

It features, what else?  Hot dogs!  You call it, they can fix it, chili dogs, spicy dogs, cheese dogs, jumbo or junior.  They also have salads, nachos, desserts, coffee (metropolis beans) as well as some sandwiches.

In addition to fantastic ice cream and hot dogs, they allow you to bring your dog in while you eat!  My picky pooch was welcomed and treated well while we ate and enjoyed the music.  She was not the only canine there, a sweet boxer also came to dine.

As far as I am concerned, the people who are running this place are ROCK STARS!!!

Great place to visit for lunch.  Fantastic view of the lake.

If you're expecting anything other than hot dogs, fries and drinks you may be disappointed but it's great for what it is.

Ok, look. I didn't want to review this place because I think it might be the best kept secret in Edgewater and I kinda want it to stay that way. But alas, the better yelper inside of me said, "No Trina, you need to share this lovely place with those who have been good to you. Go, yelp and help your fellow man". Or something like that.
    So here it is.

The Dawhaus is a charming little cafe right on the water. It has an absolutely fantastic view of the lake! It's all outdoor seating, different picnic tables and little cafe tables, most facing the water, some facing their little stage. That's right, in addition to a fabulous view, this cafe, provides free live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The music we heard while there, was nice summer time relaxing music. It was perfect.

The crowd was a nice mix of families (due to the playground right next door I think) and couples, young and old alike. And if you want to venture down by yourself, you won't be the only one. I saw quite a few people just enjoying the atmosphere by themselves. And as a surprising bonus, this place has free internet access.
The building itself doesn't look like much but the whole place put together has so much charm.

Oh yeah, the food, That was good too. :0)
They have such a surprisingly nice assortment of foods. They have lots of different hotdogs and some other sandwiches, wraps and sides as well. They also have lots of yummy sounding salads too. I ordered the veggie dog, yes that's correct! I could have it anyway I wanted, all the hotdogs were just 3 bucks. I had it Chicago style of course and it was delish! We also ordered fries to split, which was plenty. The food came out pipping hot and the fries were nice and crisp, though they might have needed a little more salt for my tastebuds.

They also have a nice selections of drinks (non-alcoholic) including milkshakes and they also had ice cream. We ordered a chocolate milkshake to split and again, that was just the right amount to have. It was a little pricey at 5 dollars for the amount we got, but it certainly did taste good. Creamy and thick, almost soft serve ice cream, and fresh whipped cream on top. YUM.

The place was clean and here's the best part for me is that they are dog friendly!! That's right, you can bring your dog with you and eat a dog. Hot dog that is. They have a big bowl of water for the dogs and a bowl of free treats. SO GREAT!

The only thing I will say that's negative, is that the prices are a little high, but to me, I don't mind because it's a locally owned place, with a small area to eat and it's probably expensive to have a cafe on such a primo spot of land.

You will want to wear some bug repellent though because being right on the water, there are quite a few friendly flyers up above waiting to to eat their own tasty treat by the lake.

Ok, so now that I shared this place with you, I can probably kiss good seating goodbye right? Ok, well let's strike a deal. Let's try not to stay longer than an hour if the place is really crowded. That way, everyone and every dog can get a chance to partake in the beauty of this little spot. Deal? Deal.
    See you there!

I went to see someone perform here on a cold, rainy, summer night.  The food was pretty good and the view, had it not been raining, would have been amazing.

I had the Bacon, Spinach and Tomato sandwich and shared fries with the hubby.  The order of fries is definitely large enough to share, but unfortunately, they were a bit cold.  The sandwich was great, though!

    Location, location, location.

The view of the lake is unbeatable.  This is the perfect place to eat outside in the summer.  I hear the owner has applied for a liquor license, so hopefully some vino will be on the menu next summer.

It's not fancy, but that's not what this place is about.  It's inviting (with its free dog treats inside) and easily fits with the neighborhood.  The food is good (fresh wraps, excellent fries - try them with the chipotle mayonaise) and made fast.  It's usually made better when the owner is there during the day (I think the herbal refreshment slows down some of the younger guys that work there).

I highly recommend this place, and if you have a dog, bring it a long!

We had mostly bad luck with the food...the hot dogs, brats, and fries were all cold, they were out of falafel...though the smoothie was good. .I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt...they serve all the right things and as others have said, you can't beat the view. Watch out for the biting flies.
