All the selection and crafty marketing found at Barnes & Noble, but without the big business lack of regard for the customer.  The staff is helpful and genuinely caring, and the atmosphere is very cozy and inviting.

Excellent DVD selection, and a large well stocked children's section.

The largest 'local chain' bookstore in town. First, the bargain book tables outside are always worth a look. Step inside and you'll find one of the most comprehensive newsstands outside of the Memphis Public Library. Also they have a DVD/CD section with a great selection of movies and music.
If you're hungry or just need a cup of coffee while you catch up on your Kafka, step into their cafe.
*Books make great gifts and they offer free gift wrap on books.

This is definitely the best bookstore in Memphis. I have been visiting Davis-Kidd since they were in their tiny store across the street, and have been with them through three moves.

The best feature of Davis Kidd is their staff. Davis Kidd has a lot, and I mean A LOT of old-timers there , people who have been working there for years and years and years and years. These folks love their books (one of their staff members used to manage the Poplar-White Station library down the street before she retired- Davis Kidd is her part-time retirement gig), they love Davis-Kidd , and they love helping people find the books that they want or need. Davis-Kidd screens for these folks; they give you a "book test" on your job application to make sure that you actually know something about books and literature.

They have an extensive collection of books and CDs, and will happily order anything for you that you that they don't have. They also have a great gifts selection (not just books, but other things too), and a terrific cafe. It's a great place to stop in and read a magazine, have lunch, pick up a last minute present and run into people you know!
