I love all the sparkle in Davidson & Licht, but most of all I love there hospitality! My father recently gave me a pair of diamond studs that were my grandmothers. I was thrilled to receive the gift but after 20 years in a safe deposit box they were horribly dirty and the backings were missing. My dad recommended that I take them to Davidson & Licht. At first I was a little nervous when I walked in because I was the only person in there that was dressed very casual. The jeweler immediately greeted me and made me fell right at home. Davidson & Licht had no problem making my earrings shine like they were new and found me nice secure backs for them as well. I was very pleased with my experience.
Not to be negative, but had a bad experience here lately. 2 stars because I just had a watch polished here and the guy who returned it to me (still with scratches on it) looked at it with scrutiny and asked, "is this stainless steel?" Um, you're the jeweler, aren't you supposed to be able to discern white gold from steel?
They charge $150 for a watch polish, but if you do it, make SURE that you request their horologist (fancy for watch fixer) to do it himself. When I asked them why my last job was so poor, the guy admitted it had been done by a trainee and would resubmit it when the regular guy came back from vaca.
SHADY! The trainee didn't even take off the strap to polish it. If I wanted that kind of service I would have gone to the mall, bro. THX for making me come back to the 'Nut for nothing. And that hugely oversized ROLEX sign in the shop doesn't really do that much for your image. Guys, if you're looking to get a nice watch, do yourself a favor and see Tim Jackson at Jackson Square - he will give you the real deal info on what to invest in. And it won't be a cheesy Rolex or a Breitling that loses half its value upon leaving the store.
* In all fairness, the regular guy who polishes watches here is SUPERB.
People are nice on the front end but when I needed to get a copy of my warrantee from a watch I purchased from them 2 years ago they couldn't find the info. This will now cost me at a minimum a serious amount of time and potentially several hundred dollars. From a high end jeweler I expect more than just the product (which I can get cheaper online) but also a higher level of service after the sale.
My husband had family rings to give me for engagement and wedding rings, but we needed both of them re-sized and the wedding ring we also had restored to what it looked like in the 1920's and and engraved. We had a friend recommend Davidson-Licht for this work and we were thrilled with it. The rings came back looking absolutely wonderful and their prices were not obscene. The wedding ring in particular was pretty intricate. They talked with us explaining all of the options that we had with it and we really liked the results. The staff there was friendly and very pleasant. I would recommend them to any friend looking for higher-end jewelry or restorations. These people really know what they are doing.
I read about another poster's bad experience there ans am totally surprised. The first time I went there I came in motorcycle leathers and there were incredibly gracious to me.

Davidson and Litch is a good dealership. I've been to hundreds of dealerships all over the world and I've bought several dozens of watches.
In fact, I bought watches at both the Walnut Creek and Valley Fair location. I ordered a ceramic Rolex GMT Master and I got it within a few months.
It was a hot watch. You gotta remember some of these items have huge demand and you have to act accordingly. I paid full retail (without any markup) around 6 grand.
So if you come in acting like an asshole with the expectations of big discounts; "forget about it."
If you don't want it, someone else will pay for it and that was the attitude conveyed.
Which frankly is how I like it. I like it when the salespeople tell you a straight story. They weren't being rude about it.
I have no problem with the doorman. You guys must have inferiority complex. I was wearing t-shirts, jeans and flip-flops and had no problem with customer service.
They showed me a few other watches that I had little inclination to buy and there was no pressure.
One note: They have the swankiest bathroom for a Jeweler. It was better than most 5 star restaurants I've been to.
So, the doorman at the front door is a bit intimidating....and so is the gentleman who comes out with fine china filled with tea, mini bottles of water and little plates of chocolates...until you shovel them in your mouth.
We happened to stroll in looking for potential 'dream' gifts for each other and came away with a fantastic experience. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. The place doesn't have that austere coldness that Tiffany's can...don't get me wrong, I won't ever turn down a little blue box but D&L definitely gives them a run for their money in service and quality.
*little note* We both filled out a 'wish list'...little did I know that he'd go back and purchase something on my list for our anniversary. He said that the service there nailed it for him...and he's a grinch usually. ;-)
