Review Highlights
Okay I'll be honest, I didn't want to go here - why, the awful experience we had at Barfaditto's Pizza. If this used to be #1, according to the Inlander, and was surpassed by Barfaditto's one can only shudder to think what they serve here.
The good news - this place rocks. Pizza's were awesome, crust very very good, flavors perfect, calzones a work of art, one of the best calzones I have ever had, crust perfect on both sides. Nice selection of beers, good atmosphere, good service even thought they were slammed.
I've got to admit I now have a tie for Best Pizza In Spokane.
Fat Daddy's or David's are simply the two best pizza joints around.
First off - I am addicted to the pies at this place. This is what a local Pizza place should be in my humble opinion.
Every time I'm in town i have to eat here at least once. They have a great menu that I am slowly working my way through. I have not had a pie from Davids that I did not like. I really love the pep supreme...sooo damn good.
It's a little spendy but the pizza's are big and the toppings are great. I know great pizza is subjective but I totally give this place 5 stars. Just look at their menu and tell me that it doesn't look good, i dare you.
I'll be back in September....which is way to long to wait.
What more can I say, they have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game.
The firetruck and the location really make this place great before you even walk in the door. I don't go here for the pizza so much as I do for the Calzones. We tried all the calzone joints within a 10 mile radius of this place, and Pete's takes the cake. Many o Sunday afternoons we would go nurse our hangovers from the Bulldog here. Not the cheapest place around, but worth it enough for my husband to get away with calling it a "date" place.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that the Da Vinci is the best pizza in the world like one of my friends proclaims, but it is a damn good pizza and one of the prettiest, most artistic pies I've ever seen.
Combine that beautiful, tasty pizza with a funky, cool restaurant space in an amazing location right next to Gonzaga with an owner that sounds like a good dude and I can't help but give David's five big stars.
If I can ever get a Zags ticket and get back over to Spokane, David's will be my first stop.
I really hate that yelp only has whole number ratings. I give David's Pizza a 4.25, an even mix of 5 stars for the location and 3.5 for the pizza itself.
Part of the problem may be I came in with very high expectations. I let Yelpers decide my restaurant choice for my Spokane visit by simply typing in "restaurant" and "highest rated" for Spokane and seeing what popped up. Based on the food alone, it's definitely not the best. But throw in the location and how cool the owner seems to be (from other reviews) and I can see it.
Coming in, I figured David was the owner or something, until I saw the pizza boxes and realized it's in reference to the statue. The location gets 5 stars. The table tops made from the floor of the old basketball court is an awesome touch. There's plenty of seating available on big tables, perfect for sharing several pies. You can see televisions everywhere you sit, and the decor is just plain fun.
I give the pizza itself a 3.5. It is, by far, better than anything I have in Moscow. And it is better than any chain restaurant, like a Pizza Hut or what not. However, it is definitely not the best I've ever had, or really even close.
I do give major props for the Da Vinci's originality. Feta mixed with mozerella and swirls of pesto, complimented by juicy tomatoes.
I've not tried other pizza places in Spokane yet, but I would imagine David's would, indeed, be the best available in town. But, like I said, I've had much better during my travels.
Also, it's a little pricey ($22 for a 12" in a pint) but its worth it now and then for the higher quality.
I truly was hoping for an amazing pizza - it was good and for Spokane it is one of the best but the price is just too high for the quality.
We went on a out of town game night - our first mistake as the place was packed. So my suggestion would be not to go when the Zags are playing either in town or out.
This is a place for people that have money to burn and like good pizza.
An independent pizza place is always a good thing, throw into that PBRs in the can and you've got yourself a winner. Plus the owner is a great guy, he once pulled my roommate's car out of a snow bank early early one morning. The food's not bad either.
My stars are in comparison to other pizza places, but regardless I'd have to give Mark 5 stars. The pizza is great, and his restaurant is fun. But the guy does a ton to support our community; I sit on the board of a non-profit, and I'm always amazed at how generous he is. He even opens up for occasional morning meetings and makes an amazing breakfast pizza (this could really catch on being right next to Gonzaga).
So, if you want good pizza or want to support a business that deserves your patronage for being a good community steward, this is your place!
This place has an extensive menu, which I always value in a pizza place. I have had several luncheon kind of meetings here and enjoyed the pizza. But it is kind of a cheap, greasy, NY slice appeal. Not gourmet type pizza. Good hangout.
I live two thousand miles away from here and I still think about this pizza. I used to like the Da Vinci...it was delicious and had feta cheese and pesto which are wonderful pizza toppings.
I also liked how involved the owners of this place are with the community. They served free pizza at many events and allowed groups to hold meetings in their restaurant.
This is a quality place.
I hear the rest of the menu is great, but I always get the Da Vinci (pesto and feta). Hand thrown, thin crust and a picky-about-their-pizza staff make David's Pizza my fave. It's a funky location on the corner of the Gonzaga Campus. The table tops are the gym floor from the original Zag kennel and the recycled and random art create a cool place to hang. Mark Starr does an amazing job of tying into the community and supporting worthy causes with Za. The Mobile Response Unit / Za Mobile features side ovens so pizza can be made freshly live on location. Someday, maybe someday, I'll try something else on the menu. Until then, then the Da Vinci is the tasty masterpiece I crave.
Wow! I just had David's last night for the first time. Delicious! After reading reviews here I went ahead and tried the Da Vinci. It was an amazing pie. It looked wonderful and tasted even better. We added chicken to ours and it was great.
No complaints except one. We were waiting for almost 40 minutes when one of the employees came over and told us that a standing order of 10 pizzas was called in and it took precedence over ours. He was very apologetic and actually brought us a plate of fresh chocolate chip cookies to make up for it. Other than that it was a wonderful meal.
If you haven't tried their Stromboli... you should. It's a giant pizza with your choice of goodies sandwiched like a calzone. I suggest calling ahead if you plan to grab and go or else you will order and wait. The atmosphere is great. They are always at local events so keep your eye out.
Some of the best Pizza I've ever had!!! The Da Vinci is the best and the Maple Street is great also. Anything you have there will be good. I took my cousin from out of town there once, and now every time he comes to town he wants to go there.
