11 reviews for Dave's Taverna
I don't know where to start. If you are looking for a place to hear live music, drink cheap pitchers with a group of friends (from your low budget natty for $4 a pitcher to reasonably priced Newcastle, Bass, etc), enjoy a decent Greek meal, all on a college dime, this is the place to go. You can play cards, typically you can buy a deck there for a couple bucks. The service varies, because employee turnover can be high, but there are a few regulars who will certainly bring something special to your experience. You can go by yourself or with a crowd.
Food
A taverna burger is classic and great. Anything with the tsatziki sauce is worth eating. I haven't found better fries anywhere. Insiders refer to the spice on these fries as crack. The appetizer sampler is sure to please.
Beer
Happy hour lasts forever here. Well from 4-9, which is a pretty decent chunk of time. And the prices are pretty decent with or without happy hour discounts.
Inside seating
I recommend the smoking section if you are looking for atmosphere. The upstairs balcony is wonderful for watching the bar area or getting a big table for groups, not to mention the spiral staircase is lots of fun after enjoying a few pitchers
Taratsa
The outside roof-deck is dazzling with blue lights and a outdoor bar. You can't get pitchers here but they do sell the giant 20 oz bottles. On a warm day there is nothing better that the taratsa.

This place is the stereotypical college food/bar place, and is great. I had my first date with my current girlfriend here, the food was fricken delicious. The cheesesteak, the burgers, onion rings, and the cheap beers with the live music is great.

I enjoyed their steak and cheese on a PITA. their fries are slammin too.
I've finally sworn off Dave's after giving it several second chances. The only offender being service. Checking out of the "To-Go" area with NO LINE has been a very involved/lengthy process on several occasions and getting seated/served late at night (while the kitchen is still well open) is often next to impossible. Once seated the service is usually decent if slow.
Atmosphere is what it is, which isn't bad. It's just a college spot.
Food is pretty decent but, again, frequently not worth the hassle. My favorites are the Taverna Burger and the Romano Pizza. They add Kalamata olives to their Ceasar salad, which is a win with me. Their Dolmas are tasty also.
Some people like the place for cheap, mostly edible food and reasonably cheap beer. I've never enjoyed a meal there. You can eat at tables on the roof now...props for effort, but it's somehow still really crappy.

The service here is horrible, especially if you have a group of over 4 people. Went here for a friends 21st and I think it took almost an hour for all of us to get food and drinks (seriously, i ordered a beer and it took over 30 min to get that, all you have to do is pour it!!)
The outside place is nice though because it is so big. I think happy hours on Mondays are good prices.. Food was good. Just make sure you are not in a hurry when you want to drink there!
Also beware that if you do go there for a birthday, they will watch you more bc they will know you are going to be drinking alot, and they WILL cut you off. Someone was throwing up in the bathroom once & the waitress followed her back out to see where she was sitting, and she wouldn't let anyone else in their group drink anymore (regardless of if you were drunk or not). So make sure you don't get rowdy at Dave's or they will make you leave and stop serving you (even if you really aren't that drunk).
The food isn't that great, and the service sucks. But the live music is great, the crowd is cool, and the beer is pretty cheap. It just depends on your priorities.
Meh. Nothing really special. I've definitely had much better pizza but their pizza was acceptable. Beer prices were fair and service was fine. I liked the huge outdoor seating area.
Good place to hit up for a chill night drinkin' with friends, and if you get hungry you are gonna have better eats than typical bar food. If I remember correctly, you can bring cards here to play with too... makes games like asshole available in a bar setting.

This is my #1 place to drink in college. Pitchers of beer, pizza, the best burgers, live music, two floors, spiral staircase, ambiance that's perfect for dinner with family, a date, or a night of prepartying debauchery right in the middle of historic Harrisonburg. Everything else around there is pretty dead at night (and I mean like 3 graveyards within a 5 mile radius).

Food is decent, if they get your order right. Service is pretty poor overall. Menu hasn't changed in years. Like I said, the food is decent so if you are looking for pizza/gyro/burger, pitchers of natty and a place to smoke while you eat I guess this would fit the bill.
