10 reviews for Dave & Mike's
Sean and I went here again last week, 4 days in a row for our anniversary stay in Tiburon. (Yeah yeah, we don't go very far for our vacations.)
The food is still amazing, the service is amazing as well, and the prices are low enough that you can't beat them for good food during their business hours.
As for Craig's griping about the dishes? Well... There's 2 employees. Sometimes they get busy. Other places also don't have their dishes and sink out front, so you don't see it. To be honest? I've never worked in a restaurant where the dishes were IMMEDIATELY done if it was busy, unless they had someone hired specifically as a dishwasher. When you're in a small business, sometimes you have to deal with little things like that. If you can't handle something like that, go to a damned chain restaurant like IHOP or Denny's to eat.
We'll definitely return anytime we're in Tiburon though.

A cute little family owned place across from Tiburon Lodge. It's a bit cozy (read: cramped) but a… Read more »
"Well, that was awful." were the words that came out of my mouth as I left. Now, I have to admit, that the patronage is what really made it so bad.
I'm from Southern Louisiana, so I was excited about a lunch counter option in Tiburon, but I had yet to make it here in the past 3+ years I've lived here. We walked in and it looked perfect: small, simple lunch counter that hasn't seen much change in the past few decades ... and a baseball theme! Rock on.
Nope. First, we had a fellow patron sit at the table right next to us, but facing our table ... it was like she was sitting at the head of our table. I'll only share one comment. While Mary was cutting into her sliced tomatoes, "THEY don't peel their tomatoes here." OK, first of all, who does? Anyway, she just kept constantly butting into our conversation with unpleastantries.
The service was okay. We had trouble getting across our simple order. I wasn't asked how I'd like my burger cooked. We were handed the wrong order first, despite their only being 4 diners. Mary got her meal before mine was ready by a couple of minutes.
The food was uninspired; diner food usually has the character of the cook in it - no character - just ingredients. When my patty melt was delivered to the table the cook said, "You aren't going to complain if it's pink in the middle are you?" I kind of laughed it off. "I'm serious," he retorted. Well, shoot - he could have asked how I wanted it while he was cooking it - I was only 12 feet away! I replied, "No, I like it medium rare usually." I'm not sure why we had this discussion - the burger was quite well done, and therefore flavorless. Oh, and if you use American instead of swiss cheese on your patty melt, you should mention that on the menu.
I really wanted to like this place. I wanted a lunch counter - but all I found was disappointment. But given the other reviews, I may have just hit the joint on an off day.
We ate breakfast here this morning. What a wonderful surprise. Friendly service, good strong coffee. (rivals Starbucks!)
Wonderful pancakes. Everything fresh.
This is a very small place, so come early, but seats at the counter are fun too.
Wish there was a Dave & Mike's in our city!
Wow! My husband, Dennis, daughter Kayla and I had an awesome breakfast at this cute little diner called Dave and Mike's in Tiburon this morning. Dennis enjoyed a blueberry (super food) pancake and delicious coffee, Kayla had the Cheeseburger Scramble which was huge and scrumpious( I had to try a few bites) and I had the big pancake, chicken apple sausage & Orange Juice. Our waitress was the owner's daughter Madison. She was excellent. We will be back again and again! Thanks. I will recommend this gem to all my friends and clients! Thanks. If you want a simple, inexpensive, no frills, no view, and probably no tourists meal in Tiburon, then this is your place.
The food is good and you get to feel like a local somewhere out on a rural highway in America. Since only 2 people work there, you have to be a bit patient with the service. When the food comes, it's worth the wait.
I'd have to say the food was pretty decent, the price was way low for the area, and I'd eat there again, if they'd only clean the dishes right away instead of leaving them piled up behind the counter. Otherwise, this would've been a 5-star.
by far, hands down, the VERY BEST CHEESEBURGER AND FRIES in MARIN OR SAN FRANCISCO.
don't waste your time going anywhere else!!
very fresh..made to order....and very reasonably priced...plus you can order it for breakfast if that is when you want it.
all this is why it is the favorite among locals.
catchy slogan on front of sign:
"an adult day care center".
Classic American breakfast fare. Great lunches- burgers, BLT, soup, salads. Cozy. Crawling with locals. Yummy.
Having gone this gem of a restaurant for many years I find it true to the sign "An adult day care center." It's a classic small-town diner throwback to the 50s with contractors' real estate agents local business people and lawyers call mingling at lunch. I normally order a tuna fish sandwich on sourdough toast not sliced in half [because the tuna is so juicy it's easier with a single large sandwich]. One day it arrived at my table sliced in half and the waitress [Rosa] noticed this before I did and whisked it away back into the kitchen. He reappeared moments later with a cut covered by a piece of scotch tape. This is a fun small-town place. They used to be hundreds of good small families owned diners are they getting difficult to find. If you are in Tiburon take the opportunity to enjoy this one.
