10 reviews for Dauphine Orleans Hotel
I would definitely recommend the Dauphine. I was in town for a conference that was at the Omni a few blocks away, but I wanted to stay somewhere more affordable. I searched online for hours- really, hours, and hours. After reading many reviews I decided on the Dauphine. The pictures on their website accurately match the hotel itself, which it small, clean, and hospitable.
It's a small hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff. There is breakfast included that is nothing special, but they do have Community Coffee which is my new favorite coffee. The rooms were great, and much bigger than what I would have gotten at the Omni. The mattresses are Temperpedic, so that was a plus as well. There is a small pool and also a small gym, which I used during my stay.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet, nice place to stay in the French Quarter. It's certainly not the fanciest hotel (and the Omni is), but it is definitely above average.
The BF and I just got back from a 5-day vacation in New Orleans and we opted to stay at the Dauphine Orleans not only because we got a terrific deal on Priceline, but also because the website made it look divine.
We got a room on the 4th floor overlooking past the rooftops and a slight view of the center courtyard with the pool. The room itself was clean, fresh, and modern. The bathroom was huge and the bed was comfortable (Tempurpedic baby!). Our room got straightened up on a daily basis - our beds were made and fresh towels/toiletries were always awaiting us when we got back to our rooms.
The hotel itself is in a quiet section of the French Quarter. Although it's very close to Bourbon St, you won't find the bratty frat guys here! It's the perfect walking distance to everything you would want to see. There's a grocery store 1/2 a block away with a .99 cent ATM fee, along with snacks, liquor, and other useful items. There is also a 24-hour diner a couple of steps away from the front hotel entrance.
The bar that is connected to the hotel, May Baileys, has a decent selection of booze and the bartenders (especially Lisa!!) are just awesome! Here is where I got many recommendations from locals, that did not disappoint! You can grab your drink and sit out in the courtyard by the pool (the only place where smoking is allowed in the hotel besides the bar). The pool itself is on the small side but perfect for a quick dip to help you recover from your morning hang over. Fresh towels are always available.
I would definitely stay in this hotel again, next time making sure to get one of the super fancy suites with a balcony. Excellent decor, cheap prices, great location and a super friendly staff!
A friend and I stayed at the Dauphine Orleans for a few nights. I used Priceline to get the room at a VERY affordable price.
When we arrived, the room was perfect. The beds were beautiful, they had foam mattresses, there were lots of pillows, and the sheets were pristine. I've never stayed anywhere where there weren't a few stains on the sheets or comforters--but there weren't any here.
Not only was the room great, they served a great breakfast each morning. There was fresh cut fruit, waffles, bagels, croissants, toast, tea, coffee, cereal, etc.
Also, it was only a few blocks from Jackson Square. We were close enough to everything that we didn't have to drive.
The only things I wish were different about the room are: Needed a refrigerator, the 'balcony' doors opened into a brick wall view, and the parking was expensive ($28 a day--not prorated).
I would definitely stay here at any time!
This happeining hotel part of the Holiday Inn family is in the French Quarter is North of Bourbon street but close enough to get there in 2 minutes. I was lucky enough to get a 3rd floor, South facing room with a window that opened. I could hear the music and frivolity of the quarter. Good times.
The Dauphine Orleans is just about perfect. If you are in New Orleans for the touristy/party aspect, it is in a great spot, a block off Bourbon Street, and a short crawl to all the hurricanes you could ever dare drink. If you are in New Orleans for anything other than the perpetual party, it is in a great location, as you can't hear the noise from Bourbon Street, and it is a short walk to just about everything.
The staff were really helpful and friendly, pointing out places they recommended. The room was nicely appointed and very clean, with free internet, a granite bathroom with yummy scented bath products, and even a free drink for each person! We didnt have a chance to try their continental breakfast, which looked to be a great spread, but we did manage a cup of chamomile citrus tea. Perfect!
Our room was on the 4th floor, and had a view out over the rooftops, which was really cool.
We will definitely stay here again.
This hotel is rated as a 3 1/2 star hotel on http://Expedia.com, and I think that is a suitable rating for this hotel located in the heart of the French Quarters. But I gave it a 5 for my own reasons:
New Orleans is a city with a lot of rich history and a colorful culture. Staying at the hotel Dauphine Orleans, gives you a taste of history while you also enjoy the comfort of modern amenities and if you like to party (drinking, bars, etc...) this place is ideal. This hotel is located about 100 yards from Bourbon Street (party central of New Orleans), but far enough to drown the noise (may depend on where your room is located).
Our hotel room was located on the first floor (Rm 109), it had a small palm filled court yard with a porch that had small tables and chairs. As we entered the room the scent of cedar wood filled the air. The room had a large king bed, one wall had red bricks and the roof was covered with wood. It had a flat screen TV, a small desk, AC/heater, FREE internet and the bathroom was renovated with marble floors and a stand up shower stall with cold and hot water... ahhh... perfect after a long day of walking the streets and after a night of partying...
The hotel has a fitness center, a pool and it also serves a free continental breakfast... I hear it's good but never got to try... because we were so comfortable sleeping in our Super-pedic bed.
Finally, the reason why I give the hotel the 5 star... the hotel clams that ghost still roam the area... I did not see anything out of the ordinary, but every small sound sure scared me... glad I had the bf with me! ;-) Read their website for a bit more of the hotel's history... http://www.dauphineorl... .
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the Dauphine Orleans Hotel. If I had to choose between a 4 star hotel chain (Marriott, Hilton, etc..) over the Dauphine, hands down, The Dauphine would be my first choice!
By the way, did I forget to mention that you get a FREE welcome cocktail at May Baily's? Once a bordello, now the hotels bar! Eerily cool....
Dauphine Orleans is my kind of place. It's clean, small, less expensive than the high rises on Canal St., and it's a block from the heart of Bourbon St. The bed is big and comfortable, the balcony overlooked Dauphine St., the bar is fun and open pretty late, the pool is saltwater (Yes, a saltwater pool), and the staff is friendly.
Okay, in addition to being a pretty sweet hotel, it's also full of history. In a previous life, Dauphine Orleans was a brothel, and it embraces it's racier past. All guests get a copy of one of the original prostitution licenses and the madame's portrait, along with her original license, hangs in the bar. Beyond it's distinction as a brothel, Dauphin Orleans is also supposed to be haunted by at least 3 ghosts, though I cannot report on any activity during my stay.
Dauphine Orleans is a great place, in a great location, at a great price, so when in N.O. next, make sure you look into it.
My husband and I stayed here for a few nights and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the building across the street from the main-building. The room was clean, it was very tastefully decorated and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was a little disappointing, but then, we're not really breakfast people. The equipment in the fitness-room was decent. Oh, and the courtyards looked beautiful. Also, parking was easy for an additional per day rate. We had a great stay.
This hotel was pretty cool especially for the price and locale.
There is a parking garage for $18/day and you walk across and you enter into a courtyard and go to your hotel.
The bed was super comfortable, staff was nice and the room was clean.
What more can you ask for !
And your near all the daiquiri shops, frenchmen street (where are the bars and live music is) and near decatur. Seriously try this hotel especially if you're visiting N.O. for the first time.
I really enjoyed my stay at Dauphine Orleans Hotel. It was clean, and the econtinental breakfast was good---I liked the malt waffles! The pool was always clean and I liked the court yard. It was close to Bourbon street, and the staff was very polite.
