I love coming here for appetizers and just chillin' for drinks. I also like this pub because if you come here on a Friday night, you don't get the ditzy college girl crowd. Love the atmosphere, I like that you can find all ages here.

We came here with friends for my bf's 30th bday weekend.

It was massively crowded on a Saturday night, but they got us a table that fit all 7 of us comfortably. The waitress was as attentive as she could be, given the chaos of the scene.

I had the shepherd's pie, to compare with the old reliable Rose & Crown in Palo Alto. The R&C could stand to crisp the potato topping a bit more, but actually, I like their filling better. If you're a meat lover, Dargan's will please you. I like meat as much as the next woman (heh), but there were like NO vegetables in this thing. I like the variety of textures you get when there is both meat and veg.

Anyway, it was a good time and a fun place.

Dargan's is a good place to start a weekend night in SB.  It can get a bit crowded at the peak of the night, but early on it is reasonably calm.  I usually go for a more high-energy end of the evening, but coming here near the end of the night is also a good way of keeping things chill without falling asleep.

The barkeeps in the back section (with the pool tables... I know it seems like it is the front) are friendly, quick , and professional, but don't expect to have much of a conversation with them because they are usually very busy.  The pool tables are in pretty good condition compared to other places around, and i think they replaced the missing player on the fussball table (make sure to check!), which is usually unoccupied if you want a quick game.

The food is pretty good for the most part.  I wasn't too happy with the fish half of the fish and chips (my standard at a pub), but the lamb stew was kickin' and I've seen some other good stuff come out of the kitchen.  In general I prefer to eat dinner elsewhere though, as the dining room here can be pretty busy and the food is a bit expensive for what it is in my opinion.

The best thing to do at Dargan's is bring a group and get one or two of the tables in the back bar area along with a pool table.  The music is usually quiet enough to chew the fat, and your group can take turns playing pool.  Chill as desired, and if you get anxious and want to relocate, State Street is just a couple steps away.

Big bar. Usually pretty empty but the people are friendly there. Miles and miles away better than the sister Ventura Dargan's bar. Food here is lousy and expensive. This is only an Irish bar because they have Guinness on tap. On any given night the only thing Irish I'd find there was myself.

One of my all time fave bars for 3 reasons:

1. Awesome whiskey selection
2. Pool
3. Jukebox.

I spent many a dollar and many a night here, and i doubt i will find many bars i would feel more at home at

Homey and festive atmosphere, excellent and friendly service. I had dinner here on a Friday night. The bar and restaurant were packed, but we only had to wait about 7 minutes for a table. They had a live band playing traditional irish folk music, it was loud up front, but you could comfortable converse in the dining area. The onion soup was amazing. I got the Auld Burger and fries - $8 even. The burger was okay (i'm picky, most would probably rate it very good and call me crazy). The fries were steak cut and little on the soggy side. They start you off with two types of bread in a basket - both were delicious. I saw someone else with a heaping order of perfectly battered fish and chips which is what I'd order on a return visit.

While I normally would prefer to go to the Press Room across the street, my second choice would usually be Dargan's.  This place was also on Ortega, on which I lived, so that was a bonus. They also had Newcastle, which, if you've read my other posts, is also a bonus.

This place is pretty big, with the Pool tables in front, some table in back to eat, a big ass bar in the back, and an outside patio area to enjoy your drinks in the sunshine...

So ya, overall, a decent Irish Pub, I've had a lot of good nights there, including the night before I graduated college, the only night I've ever totally blacked out!

I love this place! Great beer, pool tables, dart boards! and then there's the dining area!

I've had the fish and chips that insist on dancing on my taste buds. The fireplace is a great place to chill with a group of people. It's not the cheapest place ($12-$20) but it's a great location, off of state street but easily within walking distance. I don't do bar hopping, but I'm going to guess it should be one of your stops!

Dargan's is a decent bar - the pool tables and darts are key, and the chill fireplace area in back is also nice. But something is just off here... it's too big and well lit to be an Irish pub...and I've never heard U2 on the jukebox - not once! For shame, Dargan's Irish Pub & Restaurant. For shame.
