The food probably averages only 3 stars, but it gets an extra star for it lux* ambiance. The menu states that "Quality is our Recipe." What more do you need?

Darcy Lynn's, otherwise known as the snack shop, is a 24 hour diner that serves up a mean grill cheese, delicious patty melt, and runny, but addictive omelets. I have never paid more than 5 bucks for a meal. Sometimes their menu items actually surprise me- the chicken soup is delicious and absolutely homemade. The chili is surprisingly good, too. And you can watch the wait staff make a hand dipped milkshake. But when I eat here, late at night, sometimes under the influence, I play it safe and order a grilled cheese on rye, fries, and an RC. And I am always glad I did.

The crowd is so interesting at all hours. Drunk college kids home for the weekend, high school art kids that used to be able to smoke there hassle free, white trash, blue collar working class Brookfielders... Now would I take a date here? Well, yeah, absolutely. But a serious romantic night out on the town? No. If I wanted to go out to dinner, this isn't necessarily my first choice, but if it is after midnight, it usually is. It's like my nightcap.

This place, and Arlene, the best damn waitress ever,  are two of the things I miss since moving out of the suburbs.

So my gf and her friend just got an amazing place in the south loop...absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately that means no more trips to Brookfield or to this amazing little place. i actually thought i wrote about it before, as its completely un-assuming and understated. Its a cute old school diner, complete with old women servers who take no mess, simple and affordable menus, andgreat food. Oh yeah, cash only, fool. It's affordable and good, which i love. I've probably been here half a dozen times...mostly having breakfast, sitting at the counter reading the newspaper like every other regular joe who comes in daily. Don't expect fireworks, again, its simple good food. I am a huge fan of their patty melt, which could be the best thing the town of Lyons has to offer.

Cheap diner food.  Coffee's ok and the hash browns are pretty good.

This place looked like a promising old school diner. It had the basic menu staples of a diner, but I thought the prices were way too high for the food we got. A grilled cheese sandwich was $3. Not bad until you see that the fries are a la carte and $1.50. And the cheese wasn't melted all the way--distinguishable cheese squares remained separate. And the no-refill sodas were over a buck and about 10 ounces. Boooooo. And it kinda stunk of BO and the counter gal's overdone perfume. A $15 (+ tip) lunch for two shouldn't be that dismal.
