I NEED a Mai Tai Thai please!!!
After a day of being EVACUATED from the Mauna Lani Hotel due to the fires and being allowed to return in the afternoon I was hungry.
The entire area was a ghost town and it was quite eerie. In the Mauna Lani Shopping Village there are several restaurants including my least favorite steak house Ruth Chris and lots of shops but tonight there was only one place open and no shopping. Everything shut down due to fires but Dara's decided to open up for business.
There were a few patrons there but not many...many people had not returned to the area. Our server which was very nice was from Bangkok and gave us some advice on which curry was the best curry and he told us the red so we went with that.
My bf wanted Pad Thai so we got that too and I had a Mai Tai Thai but it is really just a Mai Tai.
Our food was fantastic and this is coming from someone that eats Thai at least one per month and has been to Thailand several times...very authentic.
We met with the owner who is not Thai but his wife is and that is where they met and got married. All of the decor including the bar [photos] that was specially made in Thailand and shipped over.
DEFINITELY if you love Thai and you are nearby stop by and have some great dinner.

Second visit last nite. We ordered Red Curry and Pad Kee Mow Thai Hot. Shit, was it hot? Food was good, the noodles were actually better than what we get back home in SF. The RC was a little watered down but I did not mind less coco milk in the curry. Overall, I highly recommend Dara's. BTW, $20 for a Red Curry and $6 more for Shrimp in it, WTF???
I still recommend it though.
