I work one block away from this restaurants. I eat here every morning for breakfast or Brunch since it's convenient for me.
I can get food less then $3 when I eat in the buffet. BUT BEWARE!!!!, some of the workers don't follow food safety sanitary guide lines which is: mixing new batch food with old batch food in the buffet, barely cleaning the buffet areas, cooks be working their sick (I have witness the boss screaming the workers about it), and the food in the buffet are not warm enough to be served (in the sanitary guide lines you must serve food at 140 degrees which should be hot enough to burn you hand a little and you must keep it warm!!!
Other then that, sandwiches are so good and like Arthur O said their 6" personal pan pizza with any toppings and a free drink for only $4.50. Which is a good deal compare to other places.
Always be alert where you eat and always watch how the workers prep their stuff.
Oh, the joys of Downtown Working. No? Why, YES!
I mean, there are a crap-load of tasty and affordable places for lunch. And talk about variety. Hawaiianish, Empanadas, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Mediterranean, Carts, Fast Food, Sandwiches . . . the list goes on and on. So, what about the good ol' Salad? And Pizza? Check and check.
Enter Dante's, stage left.
It's like a pizzeria in addition to the typical Manhattan lunch variety - buffet, sandwiches, salad bar, and soup - joint.
As for the quality of the food at Dante's, it's pretty good, not elite. But the 4-Star rating reflects the convenience and the value. I used to work just across the street. Their Salad Special is $6 for like 4 veggies and 1 meat plus a drink. Their Pizza Special is a personal pie (any topping) and a drink for the same price. Rock on, Downtown, Rock on. Amid the grim and the trash, yes, it Rocks on.
The taste?
Well, you know about Salads in NY. They are all the same. Just a matter of how fresh their ingredients are, right? Well, with the high turnover at Dante's, their veggies are fresh. They grill up the chicken breasts constantly.
The pies are pretty good. Brick Oven, baby! Greasy, yes, but nothing some napkin swabbing won't fix - you'll have to do something a little extra for the arteries, though.
