Restaurant only
This place was wonderful. At first, i thought we were grabbing the early bird special with all the elderly in the area. so not the case.
We sat in the conservatory. it was not too loud and not too quiet. it was clean and our table had just enough stuff on it that it didn't annoy me.
we sat four and started with cocktails. the only minor problem was the waitress forgot my father's olives for his martini. nbd.
i ordered the Cesar salad and the butter poached lobster. the salad was your run of the mill Cesar. the lobster was predictable but the peas and sweet potato "bacon" were weird. dont tease me with the bacon. that's insulting. you can just say crispy sweet potato strips. the rest of my table got prime rib, lobster bake, tuna and lobster chowder. all three of them cleaned their plates.
this is a lovely place if your on the cape and want to do something other than a seafood shack. i would dare say a great place for a date, but only if you wanna razzle dazzle. -

If I could give this experience less than 1 star, I would.
I've lived in Sandwich most of my life, and have eaten at the Dan'l Webster several times. Previous to this visit, the last time was about 2 years ago and it was wonderful. I prefer to eat in the tavern, because its less stuffy and formal than the main restaurant. So...one night after trying to go eat at Tomatoes, where there was a 45 minute wait, I remembered that I had seen online that the Dan'l Webster had updated its menu and things on it looked fabulous. So we headed over.
BIG MISTAKE.
We went down to the Tavern and were seated quickly, and then left alone for almost 15 minutes. When our server finally came over to us, he took our drink order and then wandered off. When he brought the drinks back 10 minutes later, we asked him "What's your favorite thing on the menu?" He chuckled, leaned down, flipped over my menu page, and replied "Here are all of our entrees right here." Great, super helpful thanks. Then he just walked away again.
There were a lot of really delicious sounding items on the menu and I was super excited once I figured out what I wanted. We ordered a cranberry and spinach salad to split, and it was decent - but really, how can you mess up a salad? THEN, I ordered for my entree:
"Sweet Pea Ravioli 20 demi 14
Scented with Meyer lemon and fresh tarragon. Complemented with a silky mild curry and carrot purée, baby carrots, pea tendril, arugula and toasted almonds. "
Sounds delicious right? WRONG, so wrong. What came out were four ravioli, completely sauceless, covered in wilted spinach, with single raw carrot, a handful of defrosted frozen peas. There was ZERO sauce anywhere on my plate, and the ravioli outsides were hard and dry. Yuck. When I got the courage to cut into one and taste it, all I got was a puree that tasted like canned peas. NO meyer lemon, NO tarragon flavor, NO curry-carrot puree, NO toasted almonds.
My guest ordered:
"Seared Yellowfin Tuna 10
Cumin crusted, rare pan-seared tuna with wasabi crème fraîche, tobiko and an avocado tomato salsa. "
Also sounded fabulous. Mistaken, again. What came out was a completely dry, completely cooked through piece of tuna, laid over a cut up, squishy, and browning avocado mess. The tuna looked and smelled disgusting, but we braved it and cut in anyways, hoping for the best. So sad. This piece of tuna was horrible. So dry, so lukewarm, so not seared, and so overwhelmingly cumin-covered it was impossible to taste anything else. The avocado mess underneath was nearly flavorless.
Best part of the experience - when our waiter came by we had both pushed our nearly untouched plates to the side of the table and were not eating. He asked "How is everything?".............right. So delicious I only wanted 1 bite? We told him both plates were awful and nearly inedible. All he did was pick them up and walk off. 5 minutes later he drops the bill on the table and says "Pay for what you want I guess." and leaves. EXCUSE ME??? No apology, no questions, no offer for replacement, no management visit, nothing. Just "Pay for what you want I guess."
We paid for our drinks and went over to the BBC, which was, as always, delicious.
Needless to say, will never be going back, and I now tell everyone who mentions this place that both the food and the service are appalling. Too bad, it used to be a really great place to eat. -

We typically have a good meal at Dan'l Webster Inn. Recently came in between the lunch and dinner time and they were serving a limited menu. I had the Spinach Salad w/ Salmon and it was delicious, however my husband had a burger that was over cooked. This was an exception though to our good experience here.

My boyfriend and I recently purchased and used a Living Social deal for the Inn and Spa, and were very happy with the results. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was incredible friendly and helpful. We only had breakfast at the restaurant, but it was delicious and we wished we'd had dinner there too! We finished off our visit with massages at the spa. My massage therapist, Dottie, was incredible! The massage was soooo relaxing the pressure was perfect - the room smelled amazing too! My boyfriend had Patty and felt that the massage was just "fine" but not the most relaxing. Not sure why though. Anyway, if you stay at the Inn I highly recommend eating at the restaurant and enjoying a massage with Dottie at the spa.

The rooms are very shabby, not in a chic way. The sink was cracked and didn't drain well. the tiles in the bathroom were broken and falling off the wall.

For both the hotel and restaurant...
Stayed here a few weeknights in the summer. My partner had a business meeting and I was along for the ride (although commuting into PVD for work each day). The Inn was lovely; we were in a suite (low 20s number room) complete with whirlpool tub, four poster temperpedic bed, iHome docking station, and working gas fireplace. Depending on your style it was either quaint or kitschy. Bucolic hand-paintings on the walls (and ceiling) - but not overwhelming. I found it a nice throw back to Victorian. Also, I had occasion to seek assistance from the front desk, and use room service: both were the epitome of 'service with a smile'.
The business group had a nice outdoor cocktail hour and seated dinner at the restaurant (for about 20) on the first evening. Both our cocktail server and dinner server where a nice balance between high-end-dinning and comfortably-friendly-New-England. I enjoyed the cioppino- and I mean enjoyed. (The only oddity was describing the bread as 'focaccia'. Maybe focaccia is something different on the Cape? I called that grilled Italian). The varied and plentiful seafood in this stew was perfectly cooked - something I have found rare for cioppino.
Also - at the restaurant- one of our dining companions had a gluten allergy. They had a completely separate (several page) menu for her to choose from. Also, the traditional menu had a page of selected 'Heart Healthy" options. I wouldn't like to see it everywhere (when I go out to eat, I want to eat) but it was nice in this context. -

Sandwich, MA
We live in Sandwich and have dined at the Dan'l Webster many times. Lunches, dinners and holiday meals have always been good. Service is good and the food is consistantly good. Tavern is a nice place for lunch in the winter, large wood-burning fireplace adds to the cozy feel.

This was everything I wanted (and more) for my Valentine's day getaway.
We stayed in a Jarves suite, and it was so nice that we didn't want to leave the room. I've never slept so well in my life (temperpedic king sized bed, oh my), and the heated tiles in the bathroom really took the cake.
We decided to have our Valentine's dinner in the restaurant downstairs and were pleasantly surprised by the food. I ordered oysters casino and the halibut off of their special menu. The casinos were so good that I almost ordered another portion, and the halibut was really well seasoned. Their wine list and cocktail menu was very extensive and we had a hard time choosing! We were seated in the observatory room, overlooking the gardens, and it was BEAUTIFUL even mid-winter.
I will definitely return and have to try out the spa. Unfortunately, we didn't stay long enough to check it out.
It was a perfect getaway spot, and the AAA discount was generous.
I would definitely recommend having a wedding here. There is something here for everyone.Listed in: Escapes

This review is about their tavern only. I don't think the place is particularly cheap and the portions aren't huge. However, the quality is pretty impressive. We liked all dishes that we tried including the desert. Definitely a place to try if you are new to the area.

Yummy brunch buffet!
We went to the Dan'l Webster Inn (when did it change to Dan'l?) for my Grandma's 80th birthday and had about 15 people. The staff was extremely nice and attentive and treated my Grandma so nicely (they kept wishing her a happy birthday at various points of the afternoon).
The decor is very old school 'Cape Cod', which I like. There is a sitting area with a few green leather chairs by a fireplace, which we took pictures in front of.
The food was wonderful, especially the 2 seafood dishes that I had. One was a Seafood Crepe that just melted in your mouth and the other was a Haddock topped with a stuffing that made me wish it would magically appear at my table on Thanksgiving. Breakfast items are tough to mess up, but the French Toast banana foster item was a perfect combination of bread and sweetness.
Overall, I recommend this place for brunch on the Cape if you are in the area or need a special occasion kind of place. -

Clean, accommodating, relaxing, cute.. all just a few words that come to mind when i think of this inn.
I had an excellent stay here, the staff were all totally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as funny and nice. The rooms were super nice and cozy. Comfy beds topped with pretty canopies in a cozy authentic cape cod style room.
The restaurants had the best hotel food my friend or i had ever tasted, in some very generous portion sizes may i add, and it wasn't too outrageously priced either.
My best friend and i also took a trip to the beach plum spa at the inn and got the best pedicures money can buy (and you do need quite a bit for these, but they are more then worth it!!). The spa was decorated beautifully and every little detail had been seen to, to make it the most enjoyable experience. My nail technician was sweet and funny, not to mention talented. -

Went here for lunch on a random Sunday and sat at the bar in the tavern. Most people arriving seemed to be attending for Sunday brunch. The tavern is separate from the main part of the restaurant and has a quaint, old-world feel.
The buffalo burger was great! It is actually made of real buffalo meat and served with a special BBQ Sauce. Very tasty.
Decent beer selection and some flat screen TVs. Important note: they have free slice your own cheese and crackers in the tavern. Free is always good, isn't it? -

Have been here many times over the years and always enjoyed. Very charming colonial styled Inn - restaurant. I personally think the dining room is a little expensive for what you get/service etc... but feel the tavern is a much better value for lunch or dinner.
Had dinner there in January and the dining room service was poor. Had lunch in the tavern in May and Sep and it was very good. -

Went here for one night, and arrived early. They had no problem giving us a room a 1pm, though check in is at 3pm. Our room had some noise problem, and the maintenance guys were friendly and accomodating. They put us in a new room, which turned out to be an incredible upgrade without any additional charge. The upgraded room was HUGE, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Their pool area is nicely decorated with many different plants, and there's a big fence that provides some seclusion from the adjacent parking lot. If you have allergies, be aware there are lots of plants near the pool.
The bar at the Dan'l Webster in is fantastic. It has a tavern feel, and the bartenders are friendly.
We had a couples massage at the Spa, and it was worth the cost, IMO. expect to spend a bit of money at the spa.
I would definitely consider staying here again! I could see this place as a great option for weddings. -

Waltham, MA
My boyfriend and I went here for a last-minute quick getaway over Labor Day weekend and it was everything we had hoped for and more. We stayed in the Jarves One Room Terrace Suite, which had a whirlpool right next to the bed, a fireplace, huge king bed, heated floors in the bathroom as well as a shower that is bigger than our bathroom at home. There was also a terrace overlooking the gardens, but the weather wasn't nice enough to sit out on it.
The Inn also has a spa. It's on the small side, but I didn't care about that. I had the hot stone massage and it was really good, though I have had better. The masseuse really only used the stones to massage with and I prefer it when they also rest them on top and under you during the massage. The one real drawback was that the room wasn't exactly sound-proof and I could hear jets taking off and landing at the nearby Otis Air Force base. For $165 massage, I'd rather not hear jets coming and going for 90 minutes!
There's also a great restaurant at the Inn. It's mostly windows, so you feel like you're eating in an outdoor garden. Very pretty and relaxing. We had dinner there and afterwards they brought our dessert to our room for us because it was late, that was a nice touch.
We were very, very pleased, it was just what we needed and we definitely plan to go back for more getaways. -

Sandwich, MA
The food is good to very good but for the prices they command it should be better. The restaurant does have a very nice atmosphere and service was good. I have been there on multiple occasions and I leave satisfied. I have also stayed overnight and the room was clean and well appointed. I have not used their spa services. The early dinner menu is great for people after gastric bypass or on a severe diet (very small portions).
I breakfasted there once and their steel cut oats were superb. I have been there for lunch and dinner with good experiences. -

Here for a wedding reception, and we stayed overnight. The Heritage room was a bit tight for the amount of people, but it ended up working well. The wine was flowing, and the food was good. Of course, being a reception, there was good cheer all around. Very glad to just go upstairs for sleep. The room was nice and comfortable. Would stay again if an occasion comes up.

I agee that the brunch is excellent. But in general I've been disappointed too many times in the Tavern to rate this restaurant well. The service and food is below par. Not a good value.

We stayed in one of the beautifully appointed suites for our wedding this weekend. The room was great. The service was fine until Sunday morning when we checked out. The receptionist had a real problem with holding a tux and my bouquet to be picked up a little later in the day by my husband's dad. You would think that $400 a night would warrant a smile and a "congratulations" instead of a bitchy sigh, roll of the eyes, and huffy "when is he going to pick it up!" We left the room on a high. However, we left your hotel on a sour note. Thanks a lot.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful night here and we will be returning as soon as we can sneak away again. Everything we wanted in a romantic get away. We stayed in a Jarves suite. This was a large and beautiful room with a king, four poster bed, fireplace and jacuzzi tub. The nice surprise was the small deck which we could sit out on to enjoy the morning sun and birds!
We ate dinner in the tavern and found an extensive wine selection! In the tavern you can select items from the tavern or dining room menus. I had haddock with an interesting warm slaw of cabbage and carrots along with perfectly cooked asparagus and quiona!
My husband enjoyed gazpacho to start and a lobster grilled cheese on brioche with chive and chevre. It was as heavenly as it sounds! To finish we shared a blonde brownie with macadamia nuts, coconut and caramel.
The next morning we had breakfast in the conservatory which looks out on the lovely grounds and coi pond. I had a veggie and shrimp fritatta and he had the smoked salmon on a bagel. Both were excellent! We found all the service to be delightful, and very efficient! It was just the way to kick off the spring and shake off the long winter blues! -

This is a great old building that includes an inn, a high-end restaurant, and a casual bar. I haven't stayed there yet, but I love both the restaurant and the bar, probably preferring the bar because it's more casual, the food is good, the prices are decent, and the atmosphere is really nice. Definitely worth a visit if you happen to be traveling down Route 6A on the Cape.

This review is for the restaurant. I met my parents there on 8/15/10 for Sunday brunch. We were told that the only seating available was in the tavern. That was fine, but they were serving only breakfast and an odd "Betwixt and Between" menu, without absolutely no fresh fish available. Cape Cod - fish - it's sort of a no-brainer, isn't it? My parents ended up having breakfast. I had a burger and fries. My parents were embarrassed that they had chosen this place, after remembering that it used to be great. We all left thoroughly underwhelmed. Go elsewhere...there are much better places on the Cape.

We've eaten lunch here many times- the food is average for the Cape (which means it is pretty damned good), but the ambience is fantastic!

We are staying here and it's wonderful. Everything in the restaurant is delicious. I had the Lobster and Lobster today for lunch, which is 1/2 lobster salad roll and a bowl of lobster chowder. I highly recommend this! The spa is amazing as well, but a little pricey. I would recommend staying here if you're looking to vacation in Cape Cod.
