Review from Emme E.
This is a nice place to get out of the city and just walk around. It's pretty in the fall with the leaves changing. I've been in the spring, but it seems that for a botanical garden it isn't as well-planted as I thought it would be. The fountains are beautiful and the bromeliad gardens are lovely. It's nice to do something different and quiet for a change though it's expensive for what it is. Even when they have events, they seem a bit half-baked. I don't have kids, so maybe if they did more adult-oriented things it would be interesting to go more often.

i expected more. Overall, the garden is not as extensive as i had envisioned. i imagine this was not the ideal time to go at the end of the summer to see everything in bloom, but we decided it would be a nice place to picnic and it was. We used a BOGO coupon from the Entertainment book making admission a reasonable $12 for the two of us.
We were kind of excited to check out the Something's A-Flutter exhibit in the Orchid Conservatory. There were some interesting butterfly informative exhibits, but i think i only saw like 4 actual butterflies throughout the whole conservatory?? WTF? i imagined nothing but butterflies swarming me, having to fight them off from carrying me away. Regardless, the conservatory was the highlight of the trip at this time of year, with a nice water wall of flowers and such.
The Botanical Garden is a good place to take a visiting (perhaps older) relative or any botanical enthusiast in your life or if you've got an Entertainment book, it might be worth checking out one time (although i imagine i have to check it out again in the spring to be fair).Listed in: Put your Entertainment Book…

The new woodland walk and lake overview experience and the New Butterfly A-Flutter exhibit is "A flippin' joke."
The gardens look atrocious! The flower bed at the entrance to my dentist's office park look 20X better than this "world renowned" botanical garden.
I also saw a photo of the orchid wall in the Charlotte Observe in the Local/Regional section. That picture is not what it looks like now. Obviously a stock photo.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Christina Z.

I went here on my first day in NC and it was the best way to start a vacation. It's out in the country so the drive out there was beautiful. I spent all day walking around the grounds and I felt just like a character out of a Jane Austen novel. The day I was there wasn't very busy and I was able to take my time walking the grounds and enjoying each garden. All I could hear were the sounds of the birds and the water flowing from the fountains....very relaxing. It is a great place to visit by yourself or with a date. I'd love to either go back with my husband and take a picnic or go by myself and bring a good book. If you need a nice relaxing day out and want to get some sun I'd highly recommend checking this place out. Bring some water and make sure to wear some sunscreen!

It's probably the least ideal time to go right now, but I was intrigued. From the South Park area, it took me 30 minutes or so to get there.
The grounds are large and there are a lot of fountains. I enjoyed being outdoors and away from any city sounds. I prepared a picnic and after walking around, stopped to have lunch. You can pick anywhere on the grounds to eat! There are a lot of grassy areas and it was perfect to take a small nap and soak up the sun.
I can only imagine how the gardens look in the springtime. In addition, I'm sure many weddings are held there. If you like taking photos, definitely make this one of your stops.
I plan to return after Thanksgiving because they open during the evenings for holiday lights. It sounds fun to bundle up, listen to jazz, and sip a hot drink while walking around a lit garden! -

Well, its an adequately pretty garden. Tastefully arranged flowers, trellises, fountains and brick paths. An enthusiast could easily spend a few hours here, if they bring a picnic - they offer picnic tables but I saw no food for sale here. Also by this time there were quite a few butterflies - not so many monarchs, but other types. But as others have said, I wouldn't come back in a hurry because it was kind of... well, small. And 12 bucks for kind of small ain't my thing more than once. I've been to comparable and even better places for free. Of course, in places with much higher taxes, but still. Let me know if they expand - they should, the place is surrounded by empty fields of grass. But I just have to sadly say that I don't think I got my money's worth.

This is a wonderful botanical garden to visit. I feel it's adequate in terms of size and one could easily spend an entire day both enjoying and exploring everything this space has to offer.

Paid 10 bucks to take some beautiful pictures of the family in the garden. Pack a lunch and a cold drink and enjoy the scenery or just people watch. Wish dogs were allowed as there were many open grassy fields just waiting to be played with.
