3 reviews for Dania Jai Alai and Simulcast
This has got to be one of my favorite spectator sports, and I wish we had one in the Pacific NW. These guys play hard and for probably not much pay. The "fronton" is beat up and has not been fully repaired since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. There appears to be more visitors betting on the ponies and playing cards and yet the sport thrives thanks to a few devout locals (admittedly an older crowd and mostly "snow birds").
The game is super easy to follow and even easier to bet on. Just pick three teams you like and bet the $6 "quinela box" - if two of the three come in first or second place, in either order, you win about $50! The concession stand is weak but most folks are not here for the food or libations. They do have cheap beer and food specials throughout the week.
I was quite sad to see that the "DANIA Jai Alai" sign shown in the black and white photo above is no longer there! They appear to be selling the building at the corner of Federal and Dania Beach Blvd, where it sat on the roof for probably 50 years?!
The game of jai-alai rocks---
I have been attending games here since '81 and I'm sorry to say the sport has seen better days, but it's really an exciting game to watch,if only more fans would come out and watch and wager, but lately it seems the public would rather go to the Hard Rock Casino and LOSE their money so much faster playing those stupid (and money grabbing) slots. Every year I make a trip to S.FLA just to see the world's fastest game, make a few wagers and return home.If you want to really see something different go and check it out as its free to get in.They also offer wagering on horse and dog tracks from around the country so come and check it out on afternoon or evening-you just might come home a winner!!!!
Too bad this place has barely got its doors open trying to make money. The game is fun to watch. Seating is in a huge auditorium.
They have dollar specials on Wed. on popcorn; draft beer, pina coladas and ice cream cones.
Admission is Free! Grab a few friends and go just to say you did.
The game is very simple to understand and as far as making a bet, just pick your lucky numbers. Handicapping really isn't necessary for this game.
There are usually a few hecklers and really good people watching.
They have older TVs throughout for horse racing simulcasts.
Poker tables upstairs. Most of the place is empty and you can see how poorly they are doing. More people need interest in this game (at least at this location) or it will be gone soon!
