We were drawn to this pie shop after a day of walking around Federal Hill. The pies were a little expensive, but I'm a fan of "Pushing Daisies" on NBC which is about a pie shop so I had to go in. HUGE disappointment. We had the white trash creme brulee pie and it was borderline inedible. The crust was good but the custard was liquidy with little clumps of white stuff. For $5 we received a tiny slice of this "pie" which was more a shell with a little bit of "custard" leaking out onto the plate. Also, the coffee was a little grainy.
I first started going to DD when they were over by the Harbor (Fleet St?)...before the Federal Hill shop opened up. I gotta say the new location is much better! The pies taste the same...which is AWESOME!
Last time I went I had the White Trash Creme Brulee (crust was scosche stale, but the custard was delish), Blueberry (they use the tiny Vermont style blueberries, not the big fat West Coast ones...tart and just the right amount of liquid and sweet, altogether yummy), Strawberry/Raspberry (I'm a sucker for strawberry pie and there really isn't a BAD one out there), and 2 slices of the Savory Crab Pie. I "shared" the 5 slices with my ex and I was so thrilled with the Crab Pie that I bought one to bring home. I ended up "sharing" that with her also, by "sharing" it I actually mean she got 2 slices and I got 6. The pie was like $25, can 'ya blame me?
In the past I've had the Chocolate Chess pie (which is amazingly decadent without being too sweet or too heavy) and the Savory Beef Pie (which is almost as good as the Crab Pie; its stocked with hefty chunks of london broil, potatoes, onions, carrots...basically a fresh concoction of beef stew without the broth...which is what makes it so good, it's not runny or soggy!).
I must describe the Savory Crab Pie as it was quite possibly the best savory pie I've ever eaten, and I fancy myself both a pie connoisseur and a decent pie baker. This guy had to have had at least a pound of claw (and a bit of backfin) meat that covered the bottom of the crust. Just beneath the crab meat was a layer of what appeared to be monterrey jack cheese. Covering all of this was a beautiful cream base that reminded me of the creme brulee pie but was a bit lighter in flavor, almost quiche-like but more reminiscent of a souffle. Just a hint of old bay with it's salty-peppery-spicy kick to give the pie more depth, and VOILA: the best $25 I've ever spent.
Do yourself a favor and stop by this quirky little pie shop next time you're in Baltimore. They have late hours (midnight I believe) and you're likely to hear gangsta rap while being served by a gorgeous tattooed and pierced blonde chick. Or, the owner (who reminded me of non-douchebag version of Fred Durst) may be there slapping together some pies, listening to local punk rock music, talking about his band. Either way, this is a unique experience and the pie is so good you'll be coming back just so you can get a slice of whatever's fresh out the oven at that time (NOTE: ALWAYS get a slice of whatever is fresh out the oven!).

Great pies indeed though a tad on the pricey side if you want a whole pie (which I've bought and they were totally worth it). I'll fill in the details in a bit but I'm surprised no one has reviewed them yet. The fruit pies and chocolate pies were quite good but I'm looking forward to trying their savory pies!
