Daltile is the way to go!
We've used Daltile tiles in three different houses and shopped their stores in three different cities. They offer good quality products at decent prices - not discount-store-cheap and not marked-up-high-end.
Over the years we've seen them continuously add to their collections so you will find a vast array of products to choose from. Check out their website at daltile.com for the full view where they not only have their products displayed but they also have online tools to use for your projects.
If you're in the market for slabs of granite or marble - visit their Martin Dr location. They have an impressive slabyard (yeah, a warehouse full of granite and marble slabs!!!) but only a small showroom of tiles. VERY HELPFUL and knowledgeable staff. They went out of their way to help us on several visits to their store.
If you're in the market for tiles, trim, etc. then go to their Zanker Rd. location. They have the full collections of tiles displayed here (and not slabs).
I give this local group a 4 out of 5 for two reasons:
1. HOURS. Their hours are not very flexible. No Sat/Sun at the Zanker location.
2. CUSTOMER SERVICE. We went to the Zanker Rd. location a couple of times. The clerk at the store spent most of the time on the phone and she made us feel like we were bothering her. The guys in the back room were great though.
If you want natural stone and slabs, don't miss this place! Yes, I went to the popular places like Terico, Bedrosian and others inbetween including many Chinese shops and wholesalers on the East Bay. Prices at DalTile are mid-range, higher than the Chinese shops and Terico but the quality and selection is clearly better, just one look at their display and you'll see what I mean. You can also view most of their selection at www.daltile.com AND they have free software for you to preview your selection and mark you favorites. It's great. DalTile beat the competition in terms of selection, convenience (display is clear, samples are alphabetized, take as you wish!) and the service was 5 star without the "showroom" prices. You'll find hard to find colors and finisheds like honed versions of your favorites Crema Marfil Select. The staff there went of their way to go the extra mile even when they were busy. TIP: check out their clearance tiles and see if you can work with it. Cuz if you can, you could be getting the best deal out there for a very unqiue look. We got 50% off on a BEAUTIFUL and RARE granite tile that was $20/ft!
