DAL is a smaller, older but at times much more convenient option for domestic travelers. Only five miles northwest of downtown Dallas, it's generally more accessible than DFW.

Love mostly serves Southwest, but also dedicates a few gates to Continental and Delta Airlines.  I like that it's easier to navigate and never as busy as DFW. It looks a little outdated, but in a way this is a little charming. Not to mention, it isn't always under construction like some larger, growing airports.

There aren't as many food options here, but do you really come to an airport to eat? I hope not.

Love Field is a blessing in that if you stick to Southwest you don't have to go through DFW.  I don't have a review of DFW because I haven't flown through there enough in the past year to justify a review since I almost always go through Love.

Good: shuttles to parking and rent a cars are frequent and right outside the door.
Good: Budget rent a car has great drivers and service people.  One of their managers, Audrey, is a top-knotch customer-oriented persons.
Good: TSA is usually very fast.
Tip: There is a secondary security entrance up the escalator by baggage claim.  Little known and little used.
Bad: In the summer, it's hot and crowded.  If you are flying to Austin on a Friday afternoon, do not dither.  Get to the airport because it's usually a madhouse.
Overall, a better, faster, and easier airport than Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston INtercontinental

Seriously...this place calls for the punniest of all puns, f'real.

What's not to LOVE about this place? Nothing.

1. Southwest dominates.
2. SUPER fast through check-in/security.
3. Easy pick-up/drop-off.
4. It's generally sunny in Dallas.

Beats DFW by a LONG SHOT. It shall be my new preferred airport of choice when flying into Dallas!

Way to kick DFW's arse, Love! I wuuuuuv you!

Not only do I love this airport because it's like 5 minutes from my house, but it's super simple, super convenient and small...but not too small. There's nothing I hate more than trying to navigate my way through an airport like it's a Saturday in the Smithsonian.

The check-in area is big, there are NEVER any lines and the Southwest peeps are always so darn friendly! Security is the same way. Fast and easy, just how I like my men (kidding)! Seriously though, even on a busy Friday afternoon I've never waited in the security line for longer than 15 minutes.

Like I said, it's small but not too small. There's still a variety of restaurants and vendors to choose from - Chili's Too, Seattle's Best, McDonald's, a beer stand and a bar or two.

And did I mention how freaky fast that baggage claim is? Super duper fast! Almost always, my bags are already on the carousel by the time I'm down there.

Just a heads up, though: they WILL ticket you if you sit in your car waiting on someone at arrivals...so just use the convenient circle park to sit and wait!

1.Southwest
2.East to understand the layout
3.Pick up and drop offs are a sinch, not like at LAX!
4.Parking both airport and private lots with shuttles are so close and convenient. Hint; I love "the spot" parking... for consistency of shuttle timing and pricing.

My last job had me flying so much I received a free buddy pass when ever I flew with Southwest. Sure there are more beautiful airports (SEATAC) or larger ones like O'hare. But when it comes to DFW or Love, Dallas love wins hands down in my book. And I've been to just about every major hub that there is.

Sure ok, I'm sure maybe 1/2 of it's memories and "my home" base, but it was always proven to be so convenient, and the rates are so much better. Also, and I'm not making this up, but Denver and Dallas Love seem to have the smartest TSA agents around. IMO

If I can avoid the craziness that is the DFW airport, I'd much rather fly out of Love Field instead.  Not only is it less crowded, but its cleaner and less confusing to navigate.

Since I use this airport when traveling to fairly close destinations, most of my flights run on time.  I've had a few of my flights delayed, sadly, but that is almost expected these days.  When my flights have been extremely delayed, I'm always able to jump on an earlier flight for no extra fee.  The employees are as accomodating as possible and will go out of their way to help you out if possible.  Big plus when dealing with cranky air travelers, I'm sure.

I also like the parking garages including the walkways that run in between there & the check-in area.  The airport is pretty clean and has a lot of options for places to eat or buy things for being such a small place.  I rarely travel with much luggage when I fly out of here, so I can't speak as to the bag claim or check in.  Security moves super quick, so don't be turned off by a long line if you happen upon one.  I've never waited more than 15 minutes in the security line even when I travel during peak business hours.  Thank goodness for such a large staff and a lot of x-ray machines!

I'll definitely bypass DFW and be flying out of Love Field as much as possible in the future :)

Two stars for the magnificent linoleum map of the world on the floor in the lobby. When I was a kid and flying was romantic, we used to zoom around on the map with our arms spread like wings and imagine ourselves going to all these places. Today the map is covered up by the TSA queue but you can stand on it while you're waiting and pick out all the countries that no longer exist, like French Equatorial Africa.

Plus one star because it's a $20 taxi ride to my parents' house, vs $50 from DFW. (And without the byzantine DFW traffic plan that always gets me lost when I drive myself.)

Plus one star for lots of gates for Southwest, my favorite airline.

Final star to come in 2012, when the ridiculous Wright Amendment (named after Jim Wright, a crooked Fort Worth politician and DFW panderer who was subsequently drummed out of office) is history and I can fly cross-country without stopping in an adjacent state.

I LUV this little airport...but I dont get to use it very often UNLESS I fly Southwest....which is rare. Really easy in and out, great baggage, convenient to lots of companies, security is usually easy (although I have been secondary screened here too). Reasonable food and good bookstores. Clean as a whistle. Four Stars.

Dallas Love Field, you are as good as it gets. Minimal lines, great parking, a couple easy to find terminals, good food selections and the home of the best airline ever.

Sure, you're old. You've probably seen better days and you are in a semi-rough part of Dallas. But you're easy to get to, right near all the major businesses in Dallas and you have a cool name.

Good for you for rockin' it in your olden years.

When I fly out of Dallas I prefer to use Love Field because of short lines and clean bathrooms. My only gripe is the location, its out of the way however DFW can still kiss Love's ass just on shortness of lines.

Have you ever seen a cheap B-movie that flashes forward or back in time?  Do you remember how all the buildings look the same, but they just throw some modern stuff in the tired, worn out shell from the past?

When I walk in to the Lobby at Love Field, I expect to see my brother (with his big ass butterfly collared shirt) get up off a plaid colored couch and walk to the avocado green fridge in our harvest gold kitchen.

Somebody call a designer, STAT!

Some of Love Field's negatives are directly related to the BS Wright Amendment.  However, I shouldn't have to stand in someone else's piss when I need to drain off the gin & tonics I drank on the plane.  That's just poor cleaning and dumbass guys who can't get it in the urinal.

FYI: Your dick moves, gentlemen.  Aim it into the big white thing on the wall BEFORE you start the flow.

God help me if I have have to take a poo when I'm there.  I swear to god, I think I'd actually leave and hit one of the gas stations on Mockingbird.

I've been to MANY airports over the past 12 months and Love's bathrooms are the worst.

So, if you don't need to go potty at Love: 4 Stars--it's a decent airport with a modest selection of food choices after the TSA cavity search (Cinnabon, Chilis, McDonalds, Pizza Hut & a couple other that I can't think of off the top of my head).  If you DO need the bathroom (and who doesn't need to empty the tanks before getting on a flight?): 2 stars.

Let's hope this $519,000,000 update includes some new bathrooms and a new janitorial staff.

Definitely better than DFW! I love flying into this airport! Security is decently fast, and getting in and out is no problem. I always fly Southwest to Love Field, so I am quite familiar with the Southwest gate areas - most mornings the Southwest staff provides coffee and donuts, which is almost unheard of anymore!

The bathrooms are a little retro and weird, but it's part of the charm I guess.

I loves me some Love Field. Especially when you compare it to the freaking supersized behemoth of DFW.

When I go to Dallas , I want to go to Dallas , not Arlington, Irving, Or wherever the hell DFW is. Now granted the area of Dallas that Love Field is in, is more suited if I was buying stolen stereo equipment, or about to punt a prostitute than seeing friends; but no place is perfect.

It would be great if they would just work on getting better freeway access so out-of towners, don't get disturbed by the out-of-minders.

It is amazing that the other airlines have let Southwest dominate this airport without giving much competition.

Anyway, if you are flying INTO Dallas, and you can, use Love Field!

I'm here about 1-2 times a month and usually enjoy my short stay at this small, retro airport. parking, security and check-in are pretty painless, and the staff is usually nice. my only complaint is the bathrooms. it seems like they always smell and look nasty. to the gentlemen: try to avoid #2 and to the ladies: i'm sorry.

Love field is a bit run down but I'm OK with that.  The TSA agents there seem to have major attitude.  So no love from me.  Plus if New Orleans can have free WiFi, why can't they.  The food & beverage selections are not so great either.

I have been a DFW devotee for a couple of years now (primarily because I have mega miles with American), but I live in Northwest Plano and in order to ensure I get to my flights in plenty of time, I have to leave my house at least 2 hours ahead of time. If traffic is heavy or its a holiday travel day, I can automatically add another hour or two.....UGH..

Enter Love Field....a trip last Tuesday evening took me approximately 40 minutes from my front door to a seat right in front of my gate. I also got to park in the parking garage at the terminal!! No off-site parking needed!! Yeah, it ain't fancy, but all the travel necessities are here. Food, drink, reading materials, Dramamine and Cinnabon!! There is also Wi-Fi internet access and plenty of seating in the gate areas.

Now that Southwest airlines has revamped their traditional "cattle car" type of boarding process to be a little more orderly (plus the first 30 boarding assignments are now considered a type of business class), I plan on doing a lot more flying in and out of Love Field.

I only flew here because I waited too long to book a return flight from Austin on the Sunday of SXSW. Doh. This is a basic airport (I liked the time warp description - very appropriate.) No modern conveniences like a moving sidewalk to be found. Food choices were limited (McD's and Chili's?) But at least you don't have to walk very far to get to baggage claim and get out of there.

Which is what I did. To the waiting limo so I could get myself to a real airport (DFW) and get home.

I love Love Field.  Traveling over the holiday week was made night and day better by flying out of Love Field.  Everything about it is convenient and easy and ran seemlessly.  I am sure people have had their share of horror stories there as they have at any airport, but I love Love Field and our trip went perfectly and I credit the airport, layout and people.

When I fly, I always try to fly out of Love Field.  For me its easier to get in and out of, the parking is cheaper, the security lines shorter and luggage pickup is a piece of cake.

On Friday nights they have beer girls outside the bars with tall cold beers for sale - not going to see that at DFW!

I really like Dallas's Love Field.  Some might call it old and small, but I see it as quick and convenient.  Especially if you're flying within Texas.

First, Love Field is no problem to get to: either right off Mockingbird Lane or right down (or up) the North Tollway.

Parking in the garage is a breeze: simply pick whether you want to walk a tiny bit more and pay $7 a day or park right at the entrance to the terminal and pay $10.

At Love, you're pretty much flying Southwest or Continental.  Granted, all of my flights at Love have been limited to destinations within Texas, but that works for me.  I just think it's smarter.  Why deal with all of the hassles and traffic and expenses of flying out of DFW when DAL is so much more convenient and less stressful.  Especially on one-day trips.

When I have the option, I choose Love.

And, hey, they even have a Chili's, so it's not that out-of-touch.

Love. This. Airport.

We got here at 9:15am for our 10:15am flight (we were struggling after a friend's wedding the night before). The line to check bags was a breeze, as was security. We even got an Egg McMuffin and Diet Coke at Mickey D's with time to spare. I love being able to arrive at the airport an hour before your flight and still feel relaxed. That's why I much prefer small cities to large ones.

Can you shop here? No. Will you find a gourmet restaurant here? No. Can you recharge your phone/computer at one of those fancy charging stations? Not sure.

However, I never understood shopping at the airport anyway. You're there to travel, not shop. That is why, in my mind, this airport is awesome. In and out. It's so easy.

I'm giving Love Field two stars for its sheer convenience and proximity to downtown. Other than that, the place is a total shithole.  I grew up in Dallas, and flew out of Love Field quite frequently. It hasn't changed a bit... a bit. In fact, I wish I had written something in permanent black ink in a bathroom stall, because I'm sure it would still be there. I felt like I was stepping into a 1962 time warp. Even Hobby in Houston is better than this  dump. The security line sucked too... took 25 minutes to get through at 12:30pm on a Wednesday.
