Doctor Dale's sense of humor is free and worth the price of admission.
You may want to make an appointment even if you do not have a rash, just to meet him.
Hopefully Family Dermatology will never close.
(OK, they deserve Thursdays off)
Caution: The office is not easy to find on the second floor.
Terrific skin doc with solutions for everything!
His surgical techniques are as painless as I have ever experienced (and I have been going to skin doctors since I was an infant - more than 50 years). The ceilings are nicely decorated to help distract you when getting treated lying on your back.
The waiting room is nice, too. You don't smell burning skin like in other places. -

Best Dermatologist EVER.
-- He's friendly, calm, professional, and always has a smile on his face
-- You have 100% of his attention during your visit
-- Great sense of humor
-- He answers all questions well and with as much detail as you can handle
It's like going to visit your nerdy yet cool uncle (one that can prescribe medicine or give you a shot for poison oak). -

Dr. Pearlman is a class act (as well as his staff). I experienced considerable discomfort on Friday just before the beginning of a holiday weekend. Though Dr. Pearlman was fully booked, he was willing to take me in at the end of the day. He spent nearly an hour with me (after his office closed), providing a thorough exam and an explanation of what I had and how the symptoms would play out, He prescribed a solution that has already eased 80% of my symptoms with 100% recovery expected in a few more days. Had it not been for his kindness and thoroughness, my symptoms would have gotten much worse.

I first saw Dr. Pearlman based on yelp's reviews about 3 years ago. I went off birth control pills and my skin had started to break out terribly. Seeing a derm seemed the logical thing to do.
He is great to talk to , excellent listener, and full of energy. Then why do I rate him as a 1-star ? Well, because I think he approaches skin issues as just skin issues.
Case in point: He put me on Clindamycin first, added retinoids like Differin, then tried Sulfur, and kept insisting that i try antibiotics (which I resisted and never did). I told him in details about how whenever I have gotten off from birth control pills, my skin has broken out like crazy. And when I go back on it, it fixes itself. Knowing that a majority of the cases of adult acne in women is hormonal acne, this would have been a big sign for him to get me tested for my hormones and see if my testosterone levels are higher than normal. But he didnt do that throughout the 1.5 years that I saw him.
Finally I stopped going to him, as it was not helping. My gynaec on my next visit ordered some labs and indeed I had high free testosterone levels that were causing this acne. I have now been able to fix all the hormonal problems by seeing an herbalist and a homeopath. -

I H-A-T-E going to see doctors of any kind. Who doesn't, really? So when I needed to figure out what the heck was up with this itchy rash I had, you can imagine how thrilled I was to make an appointment! I went to see Dr. Pearlman based on the reviews here on yelp since I'm not from the area and had NO idea where to go.
Thank God I did! Unlike other doctors I've seen in the past, Dr. Pearlman isn't all harried and aloof. He actually encourages you to talk things out and stops to ask/ receive questions like ten times to make sure your brain is fresh out before he tells you what he thinks should happen.
To add to his obvious professionalism, he's actually a pretty cool guy! He gets you to open up and feel comfortable so that your examination doesn't make you feel like some icky lab rat with a growth, lol. I definitely recommend him to anyone who needs a quality physician. -

Seriously, Dr. Pearlman is the best dermo I've EVER seen. His staff was very nice and professional too.
I went in for a visit last week regarding a questionable (and ugly) mole that I had. I ended up having it removed and he was so good about explaining every second of the procedure to me and making sure I wasn't in pain.
He did not rush me, answered ALL of my questions and made sure that I understood what he was saying. He wasn't like some other MD's I've seen who use verbose medical jargon to try and explain whatever I'm in the office for.
Also, I didn't wait more than 5 minutes in the waiting room. A+++
I will never go to any other Dermo again!! Dr. Pearlman is da bomb! -

I suffered from cystic acne for years and it was horrifying. 9 years later it came back, or so I thought. I found Dr. Pearlman randomly online and he listened to me and asked me questions. He talked to me about lifestyle and stress and made me feel really good about why it was back. He gave me a topical cream and it was gone shortly after. He spent a lot of time and seemed genuinely concerned about me, and I never felt rushed. He left when I was through asking questions and talking. I have referred him to about 4 people and they are all thrilled. Best referral anyone has ever given me and I hope to pass it on.
I would like to add, he gave me his email address and I had questions answered shortly after I emailed him. A doctor like this is a rare find these days. -

This is the Best Derm Hands Down.......and the staff is the friendliest Ive ever encountered.
I started seeing Dr Pearlman for about 8 months now, he helped me get rid of a rash on my hands legs and arms that i got from my hockey equipment. This guy listens, and then asks many questions to determine a solution to your problem. He honestly reminds me of Dr house from the TV. show, but really happy and always in a cheerful mood.lol
I am currently seeing him for acne on my face . I know I am in good hands and he will find a way to cure this problem for me.
LOL hate to burst your bubble Nouls S. but i was late for my first app. and i called them and they let me come. I don't know what to tell you maybe you were rude to them or something but i have had a great experience with Pearlman Family Dermatology. But Don't be late, this Dr is really busy and i don't know if he is seeing new patients, but don't be afraid to call him and give him a try. I would give this Dr. 6 stars if i could. -

Nice front-desk staff, didn't take very long to get an appointment (even for a new patient), and the doctor himself is great - efficient, thorough, upbeat and easy to talk to. Best of all, he answered all my questions before I even had a chance to ask them! I had a very positive experience at his office.

LOVE HIM!!
I needed a dermatologist stat and found him on line. He got excellent reviews so I made an appointment. He saw me right away but later that night when I went to use the creams for my face, I noticed that it was getting worse! I went back to the office the very next day, even before it opened and waited. I left them a message letting them know what had happened and that I needed to seem him immediately! Even though he had another patient waiting he saw me first and gave me great information and instructions. He didn't even charge me another copay which I would have happily payed!
He is caring, tentative and informational! He even asked me questions! Can you believe that!! He also has great staff who are supper!!
BTW-He is even available via email and responds within a day or two. So cool to have that option :)
Very happy to see that a lot of other people are happy with him too! -

Dale Pearlman fixed my 3 year old's eczema and skin infections issues and I now have a child with baby skin again! Even though my husband and I are in the medical field, we are clueless to skin issues in children. Pearlman educated us and completely helped us make our daughter's quality of life 100% improved. No more itchy nights, scabby skin, and the use of countless medications. He was kind to my kid and his office had so many kid toys to distract her as he talked with us. I am grateful for the time and effort he took to help us understand what to do. As a doctor and a nurse pracititioner...we really really appreciated his bedside manner and knowlege base.
Also...his front desk staff is extremely friendly and will go out of their way to help you get your prescriptions sent to your pharmacy in a timely manner. My pediatrician is also a friend and he sends ALL his kids to Pearlman.
Go to him for whatever your skin care needs - you will not be dissapointed. -

Finally a Dermatologist who spends more than 5 minutes with you, strives to get real results, and is easy to get a hold of if you have any questions.
Thanks to Yelp, I booked an office visit here soon after moving to the Palo Alto area. After seeing a half dozen dermatologists for skin issues, Dr. Pearlman's knowledge and demeanor blew me out of the water. He took the time to go over what was bothering me, and the right medications. I really appreciated that he didn't seem rushed.
When I had a prescription question a day later, his office was able to get back to me in a half an hour.
*Six months later and my skin looks fantastic! YAY!Listed in: My Neighborhood

I have to say that Dr. Pearlman is my hero, seriously. I have been dealing with several skin issues for years but in the last 2yrs one in particular that no other dermatologist (and let me tell you, I've been to many here and out East) has been able to figure out. You can't believe what some of these other Dr's came up with. Dr. Pearlman was very busy when I was there but was kind, supportive, to the point, reviewed everything with me and came up with a plan - and to top it off, I think he really gives a ****. Which now-a-days, is hard to come by. I am serious when I say he is a hero, thank God for people like him.

It is so hard to find any doctor that will spend more than 30 seconds with you these days, but Dr. Pearlman will spend real time with you. He is very friendly and seems to know his stuff. He is a dermatologist and has an affiliation Stanford.

I can't say enough positive about Dale Pearlman - my son and I went to see him about a rash on my son's ankles/feet. His bedside manner is fantastic and he's got a wonderful attitude. He will definitely be my go to for dermatology from here forward!

Dr. Pearlman is a doctor that really cares about you and your health. He will take any issue and take the time to figure out the cause and the best treatment. He also takes the time to talk to you and talk through everything. He is about 30 minutes from my house, which can be annoying - but he is totally worth it. If you have any skin issues that other doctors have blown off or ignored, then go to Dr. Pearlman. He, and his staff, are the best. I cant say enough good things.

I'm way overdue in posting my recommendation for Dr Pearlman. The man is a genius. I've made progress far beyond my expectations in a very short time of seeing him -- AND, my new regimen is the least expensive combination of treatments in my life. Unlike some of the "chi-chi" Palo Alto dermatologist practices I've been to, this office is focused on solving problems, plain and simple. No roll-out of expensive prescription product lines and procedures, just results with simple products and procedures that I can easily manage on my own. THANK YOU, Dr Pearlman!!

It's hard to find a dermatologists office that doesn't do "all the cosmetic procedures" these days. They seemed to be more focused on Botox than real skin problems.
I took my 6 month old here for a couple of skin issues and he was extremely helpful & knowledgeable . I couldn't believe the amount of time he took to listen to us and ask us questions. I'm used to being rushed out of offices. His entire staff was great and i would highly recommend him. -

I am not a patient of Dr. Pearlman, but just want to thank him for doing a pragmatic study of how to remove headlice [[ basically, you cover your head with hand cream, use a hair dryer to dry it into a hard suffocating cover around the lice, then wash off later in the day; repeat for a couple of weeks, no need to remove nits except so that others don't think you are carrying the plague]]. Anyhow, great work and finally some real data.
Now I want a study about whether, as I've heard, that you don't have to wash and dry your bedding to kill remaining nits and lice, but only to put them in a dryer on high for 20 minutes. -

I would definitely recommend Dr. Pearlman as a dermatologist. Like other yelpers, I'd been to another dermatologist for some time- with mixed results for acne treatment. I'm very happy with the results thus far from Dr. Pearlman.
He's very thorough and knowledgeable. He's squeezed in appointments that have worked around my schedule, and the staff were great. Best of all, my acne has cleared up for a while now- which is the reason I looked him up in the first place. -

I've had eczema come and go all of my life (I'm late 30's) but it hit really hard in April- enough to earn me a trip to the ER. That was the quickest $1100 I've ever spent! I'm not a fan of doctors or hospitals and I've NEVER tapped my healthcare benefits. Dr. Pearlman changed all of that. I know all doctors aren't this good, so I'm sticking to this one like glue. He asked questions, gave me a verbal outline of what we were going to do both short and long term, and the short of it is I'm better than I've been in ages! This doctor really knows his stuff- and I'm not saying that because of his lofty credentials. And with the knowledge and treatment I received, ironically I now know how to minimize my visits to Dr. Pearlman. Too bad because he's a really nice guy.
My several visits to see him were pretty much all the same. Receptionists were good... I'd say a solid 'B'. I went during the weekday so while the office was not crowded there were always 2-3 other patients there. The way I see it, it's like a good restaurant- they're always busy and you want to avoid the empty ones. Anyway, I have an HSA account and billing has never been a problem. What else can I say? I hope he stays around for a long time! -

We took my son to see Dr. Pearlman for a case of eczema which started when he was born and continued for the first 6 months of his life. It was so bad that he was constantly drawing blood from scratching and he (and we) couldn't sleep at night. He even ripped out much of his hair from the itchiness. Our pediatricians said 1/3 of all newborns have eczema, that they couldn't treat it, and it would go away on its own (it didn't). Dr. Pearlman cured it in 2 weeks!

Brought my two young boys in to see Dr. Pearlman yesterday for the first time. Both boys were very relaxed while talking to Dr. Pearlman who did a thorough visual inspection of each "patient", gave a brief education of their condition, discussed pros and cons of the options available, and made his recommendation as to the best treatment. He got both boys in on the discussion and got their buy-in on the decision. All-in-all, a very easy appointment. All that, and Dr. Pearlman decorates his exam rooms with beautiful photographs that he has taken of the places he has visited. I would happily recommend this doctor for all ages.

I don't want to go into specifics on what happened, I was just disappointed that they wouldn't see me when I was 15 minutes late. I called them to let them know then I couldn't find parking. I will commend Dr Pearlman for calling me to apologize. That was an A+ on his part. That was very nice of him.

I used to go to a general practitioner for skin problems...big mistake. She sent me home with an Rx that just made the problem worse. Luckily, I found Dr. Pearlman. My skin is so much better now. He is careful to prescribe medications with minimal side effects and discloses what problems there might be with an Rx.

i guess i don't have to say much, others have said enough about how good he is, and i'm just here to verify that he's truly a great dermatologist.
he would really listen to you and hear your questions, make judgements and explaining to you in detail, and patients can even email him for any more questions after the visit -
Review from Cotille D.
So now that I've been twice I feel like I can contribute. I've seen many many derms since my skin issues first started during my early teen years and this is the first time that I've truly felt comfortable talking about my skin with anyone. First off, his staff is polite and welcoming. It may be because I schedule late afternoon appointments, but I always walk in and am seen only a few minutes later. Dr. P is extremely thorough, answering and asking question after question. Despite the fact that he is probably looking forward to going home as soon as I leave, I never feel rushed. In fact he makes me feel like I can stay and ask as many questions as I want. I like that I feel as though I understand whats happening to my skin after speaking with him. Honestly it makes me want to follow his directions to a T. My favorite thing about this doctor has got to be his positive attitude. Any time I have to discuss my skin is usually a total downer but I cant help but reflect his positivity when I'm in his office. After two months I can say that I have seen positive results and cant wait to see how much more my skin will improve by my next two month follow up. Dr.P and his staff earned all five of my stars.

I just came back from my appointment with Dr. Pearlman. I can't say enough good things about his practice. He is a 5 star doctor who really cares about your health and concerns. Thanks to Yelp, I decided to go an see him. He is very knowledgeable and would explain in details all your options for treatment. Although a bit far from Mountain View, where I live, I didn't mind or would not mind going back to him again. Again, he really cares about you as a patient, and won't leave the office until all your questions are answered.

My five year daughter has suffered from atopic dermatitis and numerous food allergies since she was born. I tried a local dematologist in Oakland and was sorely disappointed in his lack of interest and professional evaluation of my daughter.
Dr. Pearlman was recommended by my Stanford allergist and even though we live in the East Bay, the trip to Menlo Park was well worth it. The wait was never long and Dr. Pearlman listened to our concerns and questions in a way that really impressed me. He then evaluated my daughter very throughly and was personable to her and us. He spoke about the current research being done on atopic dermatitis and what is probably ailing her. He then told us in very specific terms what we needed to do and how to do it. With a week, her skin was better and we were all feeling easier. Dr. Pearlman also suggested websites to learn more about the disease and gave me his email address to ask him any further questions we may have. And I did that. And he answered me!
Dr. Pearlman is clearly the best dermatologist and one of the best doctors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. I would highly recommend him. He'll change your opinion about doctors and make you wish all of your doctors were this good. BTW, after a couple of months, he told us we didn't have to see him again b/c our daughter was fine.
