This is a quaint neighborhood restaurant from a family with a history of creating quality Italian joints.
It's very common to see one or both of the owners there each evening, and they're always friendly and quick with smile.
The food is consistently solid here, with offerings ranging from pizza (very good -- for a nice crispy/chewy crust, ask for it well done) to pasta and sandwich dishes. Nothing fancy, just nice, hearty italian fare.
My wife's favorite is the chicken rollatini, but they make a mean calzone as well, and my kids swear by the spaghetti and meatballs.
The pasta fagioli soup is tasy, and the dinner rolls are huge!
Definitely recommended.
My family eats here all the time. My father knows the owners somehow and we love supporting their restaurant not only because they're quality people but the food is delicious!
I have to control myself so that I dont too much of the yummy bread before the food comes out, otherwise I get too full too quickly. It's happened before, if you can't tell.
A few months ago they acquaired the adjacent space and expanded the seating area so there is plenty of room. They also added a big screen tv in there so both rooms have access to the football/basketball/baseball game. And I think it's adorable that they have murals of their two daughters on the wall above the kitchen entrance.
It's BYOB and I'm fairly sure there is no corking fee.
It's a great family restaurant with good quality people and food. I cant wait to eat there whenever I visit!
I love family-owned restaurants. There's something more special there than in a chain restaurant. So I like this restaurant even though the food could be better. Don't get me wrong. It's good food, just not great. In my opinion it would be better if they would use a bit less sauce on some of their pasta dishes. Once I ordered the Chicken Rollatini (chicken stuffed with cheese, herbs and sauteed with mushrooms in a pink sauce). It is served over pasta. It was delicious - or would have been - had there been much less of the pink sauce. There was so much that the pasta was swimming in it. This falls in the category of 'now that I know, I can ask for what I want'. I don't necessarily fault the restaurant for this because I've heard people complain at other places about there not being enough sauce, not enough dressing, not enough whatever. As long as I'm ranting, don't people know that pasta is not supposed to have that much sauce on it?? When it does, it's not Italian!
Back to Dal Italia. Their Chicken Castelini is yummy (chicken sauteed with artichokes, mushrooms in a lemon wine sauce) as is their Capellini Broccoli, Linguine Putanesca, and their pizzas aren't bad either.
I couldn't decide initially whether to give them a 3 or a 4 rating. Right now I'd give them a 3.5 rating if I could. If they would de-Americanize their recipes a bit (cut down on the sauce, make sure the pasta is cooked al dente), I'd go with a 4.5. I like it there.
BTW, I think they've applied for a liquor license, but it's still BYOB.
