9 reviews for Dakota's Restaurant
The underground feel is pretty cool here. Especially if you can enjoy the patio on a nice afternoon or evening. I wish I had tried the onion rings that I've read about but didn't know about them yet. The steak was good with a filet and baked potato but it wasn't cooked the way I specified. It's rare I order a steak for lunch, but I thought of this as a steak house. Of course there are other options but I went with that and it was over cooked. Great patio weather made up for it along with great service.
Food wise I was disappointed, but my friend loved her five pepper chicken. It would be romantic for dinner for sure and isn't cheap for dinner but hopefully worth the food, service and atmosphere you could get and enjoy a nice night sitting outside underground near the DMA. The interior is nice as well.
I just might have had a communication breakdown with my order. I'll try again though. There are many things that sound delicious with a menu you can search online.
As far as "power lunch" spots go, Dakota's is pretty standard. I've been here a few times, and my most recent visit was just like the ones before - nothing memorable. This time around had the crabcake sandwich and fries - best part of the sandwich was the bun, which is rarely where you want the flavor to come from. On past visits I've had the rigatoni pasta (a bit bland), and the filet - which is definitely the way to go. I guess this place is fine if everyone wants a steak for lunch, but unless I want to be asleep under my desk Costanza-style, I expect a menu that can deliver across the board.
As far as the ambiance, it's definitely got the classic, refined thing down. The patio one of the nicer spots to sit outside in downtown Dallas - much cooler thanks to the fountain. The restaurant is also "undergroud," supposedly because of local aws that prohibited the sale of alcohol within view of a church. Ah, Dallas - so progressive! Service was excellent, but only 3 stars because the competition among downtown business lunch spots demands better execution.
I can't comment on the dinner scene, though I hear the piano player makes the bar a decent spot for evening drinks.
Ok, this place is really cool! Most people don't know but this restaurant is underground and when you pull up there is only a valet and an elevator going down to the restaurant. What people don't know is why it is underground. When the restaurant was first proposed to the city it was turned down because it was within the 300 feet of a church or school, cant remember and don't quote me on the 300 feet. So the owners went to the city and said what if go below ground and that would get them far enough away to be able to serve alcohol, sooo they went under ground! They have a waterfall going down the side also and is visible from inside and outside seating. This is an upscale restaurant and is not on the cheap side. If you have a date or are celebrating a special occasion, this is a good place to go to! You want to impress your date go here! I have and it worked!! :-)
Sophisticated and dark-wooded restaurant below the Lincoln Plaza Tower.
Succulent dry-aged steak. Unparalleled service. Best Patio in Downtown Dallas.
Great happy hour during the week!
Dakota's actually rates pretty high in my book! I paid them a visit on my last trip to Dallas, and honestly, I wasn't disatisfied with the service or the food. I even ate here TWICE on my trip!! Dishes are pricey and you have to order sides seperately....but when the food is THIS good....who's complaining??!!
The restaurant can be a little hard to find. You take an elevator down to the restaurant. The views inside the restaurant are amazing. Nice outdoor seating area with a waterfall and romantic lighting.
The first time there were only two of us. We were seated in the corner of the restaurant and the waiter was very tentative to our needs. My salad was amazing, ordered the way I liked, as I adjusted it to meet my needs and Dakota's was very accomodating!! I also had a wonderful filet mignon, cooked to perfection, with just the right dust of spices. No complaints and dinner was absolutely spectacular.
The next vist we came with 8 people and didn't make reservations, AND walked in right before closing on a weekend. They did seat us and gave us two waiters to work our table. All in all, every meal was just as good as our first visit and the service was also top notch!!
If given the opportunity, I would definitely come back to Dakota's again. I'm not sure where parking is, as I walked over from the hotels that were situated less than 2 blocks away.
Dakota's is a great restaurant but can be a little hard to find because its underground. If you work in the downtown area, this is an excellent place to go for business lunches or dinner. It was closed a while back for renovations, but has been open again for a few years. It can get a little crowded, but everything is spaced enough where you really have privacy at your own table.
The food at Dakota's is excellent. I don't have many opportunites to go, so every time I've gone, the menu has varied a little. I've had their sea scallops, but when I had it, it had a thin layer of asigo cheese on the bottom. It was so good but I haven't seen it on the menu since. Too bad. The salads are good too, as well as the desserts.
I used to work in Lincoln Plaza & Dakota's is at the very bottom of this building, so we would occasionally go here for birthdays or business lunches. Based on those experiences, we always had a good experience. The service is very nice (little touches like giving black napkins instead of white is nice for business lunches). The atmosphere is nice & the restaurant & view are gorgeous (all granite walls & a cascading waterfall outside).
The bread basket that they start with has a variety of fun stuff in it plus the signature butter that has a cursive D swirled in the top- really yummy. I absolutely love their wedge salad- baby iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, carrots, blue cheese dressing, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I usually opted for a sandwich of some sort- crab cake sandwich (Old Bay remoulade, bread and butter pickles, brioche bun) or the Dakota Burger (half pound burger, lettuce, tomato, red onion, your choice of cheese). The King Salmon (roasted grape tomatoes, lemon zest, caper pesto, potato haystack, chive oil)was excellent as well. I have never had a bad meal here. The lunch prices aren't bad either.
Also, coworkers of mine would frequent Dakota's for happy hour- I think they had like $3 margaritas, wine & beer and burgers for cheap also.
I love their Halibut and Fennel with the light lemon sauce or the Tuna steak with mashed peas and balsamic beet vinaigrette. Their steaks are mouth watering: moist inside with a light crust outside. I've visited Dakota's about 4 times now and the service is always good. The waiters know the menu front and back and always helpful to help you decide what to order. If you like seafood and you're with a party of 4 or more, start off with the grand chilled seafood platter. Their salad is perfectly seasoned and don't forget dessert. Their chocolate mousse cake is perfection. It's light and moist, not too sweet. The ambience is dim lit and very intimate. If you choose to sit out in the patio, you have the view of their curtain waterfall. Inside, you can enjoy live piano music. It's such a wonderful place to bring people you love or if you're looking to impress anyone. Every thing about Dakota's restaurant is memorable.. the food, wine, and ambience is great!
The service was great, the Filet Mignon was tender and juicy-what more do you need? The lobster was ok, but the sides we had with it made up for it. Treat yourself to a great steak the next time you visit!
