Better than any BBQ I had while living in Oklahoma. Fo Realz.

Ok I heard about this place from their incredibly cheesy and downright annoying  commercial. "What a stupid place!" Is what the commercial makes me think. Especially with the "hot southern girl", who was indeed hot, but obviously some NY actress who can't do an accent to save her life.

    Whatever.

We checked this place out because the commercial was so terrible and ended up eating some incredible food.

I ordered the Oklahoma Rib with the cheesy corn, and the mashed potatoes and red eye gravy.

The rib; tastiest meat I've had at a BBQ place, it FELL OFF THE BONE when I picked it up and shook it.
It's a pricey dish, but WELL worth it.

The cheesy corn side was amazing, tasted a little like peppers. It's cheesy. There is nothing more I can say about it other than I want to marry it.

The potatoes were your normal mashed potatoes, but the RED EYE GRAVY is to die for. It's a white red eye gravy, and I have never had anything like it.

The table next to us ordered a whole side of, a pig I think, and their waitress came out to carve it up for them.
She explained why she was carving it the way she was and what textures different parts of the pig would have. She also commented in-depth about the cooking process for the meat.
It didn't sound like a memorized script, it sounded like she just really knew the process well.

If you haven't seen the commercial, it's on YouTube. Not hard to find ;)

A solid BBQ place for NYC. The ribs are so so and on the next round I would focus something else. I like the fall off the bone baby back experience and you are simply not going to find that here.

One of the huge pluses for this place is the very large delivery zone. They did charge $10 for delivery but for me that was well worth it considering how far away I was from their location. (Hey, it's Manhattan and far has nothing to do with actual distance especially during the holiday season!)

Solid 3.5 star place.  Had the Beef Brisket which was well cooked and nicely spiced.  Disappointed in the corn bread side - it was temperature hot but otherwise meh - otherwise this could be 4 stars.

Away from the hustle and bustle and tourist trap area of Times Square.  A nice mile walk which will get your appetite up and then the walk back to help you lose some calories.

Price is reasonable for the city, however it is expensive if you are used to BBQ in Memphis or KC.

    Worth the walk.

Daisy May's is by far the BEST when it comes to BBQ/Southern food. My personal favorites are the macaroni and cheese..which is extremely cheesy. The cajun rice, and the bourbon chicken. The pulled chicken is great too. Everything is well seasoned, and they have a good variety of beers. I would give this place 5 stars but LAST NIGHT I had the macaroni and cheese and it came with a nice long black strand of hair. -__- NOT cool!

An authentic, unpretentious BBQ joint. I came here yesterday with an old friend who, knowing that I love BBQ and can't get the good stuff where I live now (London), recommended it. Well done, old friend. I had the combo plate of 1/4 chicken and two ribs (I opted for the 'sticky and sweet' ribs, but one can also choose the 'dry rub' option) along with two sides (baked beans and collared greens for me. They also had mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, rice and beans, etc.). The food was delicious and the serving size ample. Prices are good, especially given the quality. The restaurant is simple and efficient: you order and pick up your food in the front then go sit and eat in the back. Friendly service, clean bathroom. For the BBQ lovers out there, this is one of the top choices in NYC. Check it out.

I've been to many BBQ places around the city and down south.  This is probably the best BBQ I have ever had.  A bunch of friends and I went there and got the tasting menu, which I highly recommend.  You get the best of everything they have, plus a huge amount of sides.  If you do not get the tasting menu and can only pick one, make it the beef rib.  I never knew beef could be so good.  As far as sides go, pick the sweet potatoes... always.  And get the sweet tea in the jar.  This place is worth the walk and the money.  Thank you, food network, for recommending this!

I've only ever had take out from here, and it is always awesome. The beef rib (singular) is massive... looks like it came off of a freaking dinosaur. You can rip the entire portion of meat off of the bone with a plastic spoon... that's how tender it is. The dry rub ribs are excellent as too. Chichen and kansas ribs are good as well, but the beef and dry rub are my favorites. The creamed spinach is spot on. They do a really good set menu if you are ordering for a lot of people... good way to try it all.

We've had BBQ throughout the City and this place is my favorite. The staff are warm and friendly and the food is delicious across the board. Meats, chickens and sides. And an extra plus is that even though its hassle getting there, its is so much less expensive than the other places in town.
The long communal tables make it easy to come with a larger party and to reach across and try your friends food.

I watched midtown Manhattan fade away on the walk to Daisy May's BBQ. The lights of Times Square gave way to brick townhouses which gave way to construction sites. My solitary footsteps bounced off empty brick walls. At the intersection of 46th street and 11th avenue, I saw a car wash, a car dealership, and a sign advertising "Plumbing, Hardware, and Lumber." The sky was wide open for a radius of a dozen blocks or so, showing off a bright crescent moon. And there, in front of me, was Daisy May's.

The feeling that I'd left New York for an emptier city -- my hometown of Cincinnati, maybe -- only grew when I walked inside. Daisy May's feels midwestern from its wood-paneled walls to its unobstrusive shale floor. It reminds me of a bar near my aunt and uncle's place in rural Ohio. That may not be the atmosphere that the owners are going for -- the Midwest is not, after all, known for its pulled pork or Texas brisket -- but I found it a welcome departure from the over-the-top southern kitsch of other urban barbecue joints.

The smell of the place was just right. The sides looked delicious. I asked the cashier what he liked most and took his suggestions: the beef brisket, the sweet potatoes, and the macaroni and cheese. It's hard to do sweet potatoes or mac 'n' cheese wrong, even in New York City, but I wouldn't have ordered the brisket if the man behind the counter hadn't promised me that it would be up to the standards of the best stuff I'd tried in Texas. Brisket is easy to do wrong.

The bill was higher than I'd thought it would be, but I was so excited for my food that I hardly noticed. I took my food home, opened it up on a table in my apartment, and began eating.

The macaroni and cheese was so soft and creamy that it was almost a pudding. It was rich with a processed cheese flavor that reminded me of the mac 'n' cheese my mom used to make. No complaints. The sweet potatoes were so well whipped that you could drink them through a straw. They tasted just like hot banana bread, which was interesting for a few bites but got old before I'd eaten half of the small container that they came in.

Then I turned to my brisket. I'd asked for brisket with sauce on the side, so that I could taste the meat, and been told that Daisy May's doesn't serve plain brisket. Now I can see why. The meat was dry and chewy. Drowned in a sticky-sweet, ketchup-heavy sauce, it reminded me of a few mediocre brisket plates that I've eaten in wood-paneled restaurants in rural Ohio. It was clear from my first bite that the rich, salty flavor of real Texas brisket just wasn't there.

Oh, well. Brisket is easy to do wrong. If I end up at Daisy May's again, I'll try the ribs.

While I am usually a Korean BBQ-type of person, we were in the mood for some real American BBQ tonight so took a nice evening walk over to Daisy May's after a bit of research, having already tried Blue Smoke and Hill Country. Overall, I think this place was pretty good and cheap with fast service, but a little bit too bare bones for my taste (I guess I just prefer Korean BBQ at the end of the day).

Eating out of paper plates and styrofoam at a large communal dining table alongside strangers who looked like they were regulars, my boyfriend had the Kansas City sweet and sticky pork ribs with beans and cole slaw; I had the chili with mac and cheese and creamy corn. The sides were my favorite part of the meal, probably because both of them were incredibly cheesy.

I wouldn't make it a destination, but for a late tipsy dinner following drinks at Hudson Terrace across the street, Daisy May was our oasis.

The brisket plate was filling and tasty, with 6 or 7 slices of relatively lean and saucy brisket -- enough for a sandwich of leftovers at home a couple days later. As for the sides: the beans with burnt ends were delicious, if a little sweet, and the mac and cheese was ridiculously decadent...I'm not entirely convinced it didn't include some kind of lard. The collard greens were good (I liked theirs more than I usually like collard greens), but the mashed sweet potato tasted alarmingly of banana -- I am certain, in fact, that they add banana to it. Either that or my tastebuds have gone mad.

True, no ambiance -- definitely more akin to a fast food experience. If you live in the area, this would strictly be a to-go spot.

Hubby and I came here on a Saturday night to celebrate our friend's birthday. We ordered the "whole pork butt" which is advertised as good for 6 people. I was annoyed because we had a party of about 15, and they don't allow you to just order one pork butt and other people to order whatever else they'd want. Instead, EVERYONE must have the pork butt and they force you to order enough for everyone at the table (which sucks, because there was sooo much.)  Also, even though we were then forced to get 2 pork butts (haha, that sentence sound so weird), and each one comes with four sides, we had to get the same four sides with each order. Yeesh, why so controlling, Daisy May's?? If we want some variety we should be able to have it!

The food was good, which is why I can't give this place 2 stars, and our waitress was really a darling. But the Daisy May's policies need to be updated.

Also, bring bottled water from home if you don't want to have to pay for it! They only sell bottled water - nothing from the tap. sigh.

One of no more than a half dozen real BBQ places in New York, and no, Dallas BBQ is not one of them.  The ribs, the sandwiches and the mashed potatoes are all very good.  I haven't tried all of the sides.

I don't eat BBQ in New York often enough to offer an opinion among the few real BBQ places here so you'll have to read other reviews for that opinion.

Fine food, just keep in mind that this is cafeteria seating so don't expect personal intimacy. Or do take out and eat at home.

To me, "Daisy May's" is quite simply, "Daisy Meh".  Both the location and the food leave some to be desired.  The ribs were a little overdone, and the brisket greasy.

Not the worst of NYC, but not close to the best either.

Ooh Daisy May's... How I love thee... In my opinion, some of the best BBQ in the city. It's a little out of the way, but that makes it even better. Not too crowded so you can have time to ask the staff some questions. They stand behind all their food and will help you through the menu if you're new to BBQ.

The sides are delicious. Especially their Bourbon peaches, sweet mashed potato and mac & cheese. Not exactly the healthiest options but some of the tastiest. I usually go with the brisket here as it's smoke to perfection. I've introduced literally 20-30 people to this place and had an office party here for lunch. Everyone enjoyed it and many keep coming back despite the location. If you're big into BBQ, I'd suggest putting this on your list of places to go.

    Enjoy!

Daisy May's, what has become of you? I used to love this place when it opened but the prices have gotten out of control ever since they added seating, bathrooms, and that terrible local commercial where the actress attempts a southern accent that is even more fake than the southern accents on the HBO show, True Blood. The plate special with two sides used to be just over 10 bucks but now it's doubled! They also added an option of a full rack of ribs but are asking $32.00 for it, which is the most I have seen at any BBQ place.

The place usually was pretty consistent when the owner was there to crack the whip but once he stopped shadowing, it went downhill. Some days the ribs would be ok and then other days they would taste a little like hotdog meat. The consistency is just not there anymore.

I don't see the reason in having to jack up the prices just because you added a couple tables and bathrooms. They certainly aren't spending the money on air conditioning because it wasn't even on. There were even a couple flies buzzing around to give it a more authentic feeling of a hot summertime in the south.

This is sacrilege where I come from, but I had some of the best damn barbecue ever in Manhattan. Daisy May's BBQ is some tasty fare!

We were walking back from watching a Broadway show and strolling down to the pier to catch a nighttime harbor cruise around the city. We had time to kill and came across this place on our walk. I immediately yelped it and noticed that most of the people who dug it was because of the actual food. The folks who didn't were turned off by the atmosphere and price. Yelpers are the same no matter what city. Googled it and realized the main chef is Adam Perry Lang. Wow. I had to check this place out.

The first thing I see is the hostess/counter gal. An Asian woman about 80 lbs. soaking wet looking like she just stepped out of the Hee Haw set. Not what I expected. Then I look up at the menus (which are written in chalk up on the wall) and I just stared at the first item. It listed "A whole pig with Texas Toast, Cole Slaw and two large sides for $480". If you aren't that hungry you can get a half pig for $240. Who buys that in NYC? How do you carry that son of a bitch in a cab or heaven forbid, in the subway? I am kicking myself for not taking a pic of that.

So anyway, those in our party ordered everything ranging from Memphis Dry Rub pork ribs, KC sweet and sticky pork ribs, brisket and chicken to just a simple beef brisket sandwich. I ordered the pulled pork because I was still thinking about that whole f'ing pig. My plate included two sides and I chose mashed sweet potatoes with brown sugar and collard greens. I ordered a 3rd side because I wanted to try their bourbon peaches. Holy hell, did I choose...wisely. The tender/moist meat was like manna from heaven. I haven't had collard greens in ages and they were just the right texture and the sweet potatoes were out of this world. I had to stab random party members with my fork to get their grubby little hands from reaching over to my prize.

I was feeling like Jabba the Hutt when I finished my meal but I just had to taste my kid's red velvet cake just so I could see the buckle fly off my pants and out the front door. Great stuff... Highly recommended by this Texan. I just hope I don't get lynched for writing about it .

We said ok and he asked again if we knew what the price was saying he didnt want an argument when he rang up the total. What was his point? Do they do that now with every order?

Sometimes I sit under the clouds and ask myself a few NY questions...
"Why cant they make good pizza outside of the tri-state area"

"Why is Elaine from Seinfeld still hot"

"How did Kevin in Home Alone 2 know exactly what the Plaza was going to ask him" (little refridgerator that opens with a key?? wtf??)

and..."whats up with the BBQ in the city". The BBQ per person ratio is so low- Im sure its lower than the Shawarma:Person ratio and probably lower than the Nascar Fan: non Nascar fan ratio- in other words, for you Finance gurus- there is an arbitrage opportunity to create GOOD BBQ all througout the city!

This place wasnt terrible- but no way a good representation of what BBQ is- and NYC should represent every single food genre perfectly! Its just the law of the City- There should be the best becuase people will pay!

Brisket Supply and Demand should not leave room for Adam Smith's Invisible hand becuase his hand should be reaching for some extra Ribs and AND the cornbread here is so WAK- more like cornLEAD- too dense.

    1. Oklahoma Jumbo Beef Rib - best thing on the menu, tender, fatty, juicy, quality meat.  Taste really good.
    2. Sweet tea - taste pretty damn good, id prefer without the mint, but its still good.
    3. I tried both the kansas city sticky ribs and the memphis dry rub.  I prefer the sticky ribs, but dry rub ribs I had was slightly better quality pork ribs.  They probably use the same ribs for both I would imagine, none the less it is a nice piece of pork rib and cooked well.  Fall off the bone, but still holds up when you take a bite into it.
    4. Fixins are good, but not anything amazing I thought.  I had the usual mash, mac and cheese, cream spinach, and sweet potatoes. Collard greens were seasoned different and strong but it wasn't to my liking.

This place is pretty pricey for a meal, but it was worth a try.  I been here 3x now.  I much rather go here then blue smoke.  Overall I enjoyed my meal and would recommend the BEEF RIB with an order of sweet tea.

This is my all time favorite BBQ in Manhattan.   I do like dry rub, and this is the best.  I usually do takeout, and if the ribs get dry on the way home, just cover with wet paper towel and nuke them.
The Oklahoma "rib" is really a steak, and again, absolutely amazing.   I'm not crazy about the other styles of meat, so I can't comment on those.
The sides are mostly good, though I would skip the spinach.

    Expensive and mushy.

BBQ here seems to have been over cooked by about 5 hours. While meat is uber tender, it has lost any bite or texture. I had 1/2 rack dry rubbed ribs, sampler of pulled pork, 2 sides and a beer. Tab? $41.

Meat is smoky and has good bark but is has about as much body as mashed taters. Tried the iced tea since it was recommended. Very good and served in a sealed pint mason jar with mint leaves. Good but $6 for ice tea? Folks next to me asked for water and were told it was illegal for them to provide tap water and they had to buy $4 bottled water.

I am not a BBQ connoisseur but I have had better for a lot less.

I won't be back...the counter help are now dressed like they are extras from Coyote Ugly...I think this place is trying to cater to the "let's eat an entire pig before going to the strip club for a bachelor party" crowd.  Chewing gum and muttering is no way to take an order and what was once a lovely out of the way gem has turned into a subpar caricature of BBQ's answer to Burger Shot Beer.

There are so many other fantastic BBQ places in the city...go to one of those.

I know I need to try the signature beef rib from Daisy May's but wasn't blown away by my first experience here. I had the brisket, baked beans, and bourbon peaches. All was good.

Unlike at Fette Sau where the picnic table, grab whatever space you can style seating kind of sorts itself out, here it could've used some more organization, or at least two less douchey people. I understand not wanting to be rushed out, but when you're two people sitting with a try of garbage at a table that seats 8, and 8 people are waiting to sit, get the F out of the way.

Unexpected BBQ at an unexpected time.

Sunday morning on a cool June day.

not only that, it was kind of disappointing.

the beef ribs were fatty which is good but it was just not moist. Like you would think fatty beef ribs cooked the right way for hours would be like heaven in your mouth, but the beef ribs tasted like rough cardboard.

The collard greens omg are super salty.

But the mac and cheese is pretty good. Cheesy and moist crust.

pricey pricey place. I'll stick to Rub instead or try dinosaur.

The Oklahoma Rib was a food experience to say the least. Enormous! And delicious. The basil infused Sweet Tea is one of my favorite sweet teas of all time...plus you can't get sweet tea anywhere in the city.

My wife was disappointed with the Red Velvet cupcake that everyone raves about...I liked it just didn't think it lived up to the hype....it was HUGE though.

This was some pricey BBQ...I'd go again...really loved it...just can't afford to go as often as most BBQ places.

Daisy May's completely tore down everything i thought about Chilli and Creamed Corn, and rebuilt it in pure GOLD!

Sadly...i did not order the Chili.  Happily, the chicken I ordered was quite delicious.  I came here on Saturday afternoon as a pregame for seeing True Grit with several of my friends.  Finding a table was troublesome, but cleaning my plate was far less of an issue.  As stated, I ordered the chicken, which i did thorougly enjoy.  Along with it, I had the yams and creamed corn.  I ordered the cream corn because they appeared to be out of mac and cheese when in fact, they were about 25 seconds away from bringing a new tray out.  This 25 seconds of my life would turn out to be serendipitous as it would cause me order the creamed corn and change my life.

Being with the lightweights at my table, I was able to sample the brisket, pulled pork, and the aforementioned chili.  Everything was plenty above average, but the chili.....that damn chili! BRING ME THAT CHILI!!

Blue Smoke still presents my favorite meal in the NYC BBQ genre, but this is probably number 2 on the list.

While a jersey guy born and raised -- I spent quite a bit of time in North Carolina for one reason or another.

I'm a huge fan of lexington style (western style) carolina bbq.  Among other delicious varieties.

So it was with great dismay that when I excitedly asked about their "Carolina style" BBQ (Do you guys make eastern or lexington style?) I received blank stares - from everybody that worked there - INCLUDING THE COOK!

I understand that not everybody working there has to love the stuff, but come on not ONE person!!

I call a major foul on this one!

Everyone's doing it now. Yes, even DBGB! Why? The margins are redonk and people are quick to ride on the next food fad. Good thing we entered skeptical with low expectations and left just as unimpressed. Weknow what you're thinking. This same pig can be had for $120-$130 in Chinatown, but the skin is fatty there and doesn't fuse with the fat to become one. We were hoping that we were in for at least a crackling extravaganza, especially at these prices. We thought wrong.

FRIEND: Would you come back if it was $10 AYCE?
    ME: No.

The 'Deal': $480 for 12ppl ($40/pp), $35 each addt'l person gets you a free rack of ribs.

Reservation: Must be made 2 days in advance, $200 credit card deposit. The remaining balance of the bill is also charged on your credit card, but they don't tell you that.

Pig: [30 lb'er served w/ vinegar sauce, fleur de sel]
-MEAT - was deboned for you, besides the head/leg area, tasted like smoke and propane having sex. You will be hard pressed to even scavenge some meat off the cheeks, as the face is burnt to a crisp, vinegar sauce was very sour, fleur was a nice touch
-SKIN - inedible, don't even try it. Imagine leathery skin that reeks of propane. Probably packed w/carcinogens. What a waste!
-BONE - the brittle and dry look of it was a dead giveaway that this pig was def not cooked LOW AND SLOW, but at a high temp for a shorter period of time. Corners were def cut here, and the experienced eyes noticed!

Ribs: (no good)Cut was meaty but tasteless and generic, meat wasn't falling off the bone, sauce was scantly applied with no extra sauce on the side

    Bread: (sucked)
-TEXAS TOAST - this was substituted w/ cornbread, which had a hard crust, served room temperature and tasted stale.

    Sides: (average)
-COLLARD GREENS - usually cooking w/ a smoked turkey leg would be ideal, instead it was sweet, no smokycomponent in this, no meat either
-MASHED POTATOES - not overly buttered, average
-MAC & CHEESE - a bit runny, average, a toxic orange color
-BAKED BEANS - the best of the worst sides here
    Drink: (good)
-SWEET TEA (+$4.90 supp) You get a 32oz mason jar full of southern sweetness and the jar is yours to keep. It comes cold, but don't bother asking for ice. According to the staff, they don't have an ice machine here.

    Dessert: (average)
-FRESH FRUIT (Watermelon) - thinly sliced triangles, skin on, nothing special here

    Service: (sucked)
Nonchalant, unattentive, bordering on non-existent. Oh yeah, there's a $15 corkage fee per bottle. So gracious of them to waive that for us!
Bill:Total came out to $48/pp after everything. You def don't have to tip 15+% here.

We left awestruck how this place gets such good business. Perhaps people get all gaga at the novelty of snapping pics but that dies quickly when you realize the food sucks. If it weren't for the sides, we would have left hungry. Save your money and go elsewhere, Restaurant Week even. That said, witness our first 2 star review, usually given to places which have borderline inedible food, quite relevant here.Pig skin belt, anyone?

A-MAZING. The best comfort food you can find in the city.

Ribs are cooked to a moistly perfection. The taste of the meat was just the right amount of intensity. The meat truly falls of the bone without much effort.

Mashed potatoes with gravy and Mac and Cheese. After a few hours, the guilt that the Mac and Cheese gives you is forgivable. It is, I have to say, the BEST classic Mac and Cheese I have ever had.

Of course, this meal is not complete without their sweet tea in a Manson jar. It gives you that real southern feel in the middle of Manhattan.

I would recommend to go with a friend or two that you can really pig out with. Food is in big portions and well worth the money for comfort food that hits the spot.

Greasy and oily brisket.  I didn't even think that was possible.  Highly overpriced.  It's better for you to wait for a long time for decent BBQ outside of NYC than to suck it up and eat here.  Too bad...

Generally I don't feel the need to update reviews for places that stay awesome.  But my most recent trip to Daisy May's is worth a write up since it was an extra special occasion.  It was my buddy's birthday, and that meant we were going whole hog.

    Oh yes.

One giant pig, smoked to high hell, served up with Daisy May's unbeatable sides.  It's as good as you think it is, but better.

Not for the squeamish, you really get to enjoy a full tour of the pig's innards.  From the shoulder (mmm) to the belly (mmm).  And then comes the birthday boy, a few cold beers warming him up, declaring his need for jowl as he rips the pigs face open and digs in.

Yeah, it's sort of messed up.  But it's even more delicious.

These is the best BBQ in the city, hands down, the Oklahoma beef rib is enough for two, the sides are great, and the mint tea in a mason jar is excellent.

Pulled pork, brisket, etc. Some NY city type may not enjoy the cafeteria style layout. Good, more for me.

I'm sitting here as I speak, done after my 2nd rib. I can usually polish off an entire rack by myself.

Ravenous and eager to fall in love w/a BBQ joint just down the street from us my bf and i came here for breakfast (@4pm.. Late night drinking) and jumped into the ribs... And they unfortunately and literally taste like BBQ spareribs, Chinese fast-food style. Fall off the bone my ASS. I'm so disappointed I stopped mid-meal to write this review. I've lost my appetite.

Saving salvation from me chucking my plate across the damned place are the decent collard greens. Still not enough to make me detest this place for calling themselves a legit BBQ joint for such filthy ribs. Ugh.

    Daisy may, you suck balls.

For New York City, they are middle-of-the-road BBQ.  By true BBQ standards though, they are pretty disappointing.

Admittedly, I did not sample the entire menu.  There did not appear to be an option to do so.  As such, I just had a plate special ($21.50) of Memphis style, dry rub ribs with my choice of two sides being baked beans and macaroni and cheese.  The ribs only numbered six in total, making for a smallish meal.  The meat was pink and somewhat tender, but it adhered to the bone more than I cared for.  The dry rub definitely made it dry, and not in a good way.  I think the trick to a good rub is to find a flavor combination of spices that actually tastes good.  Their rub always seemed to have a strange aftertaste.  Passable, but gosh I would not seek these out.  The side dishes were considerably better by comparison.  The baked beans were hearty and had complex flavor.  I loved the contrast in texture created by the inclusion of burnt ends.  The mac and cheese was really creamy, fatty, and decadent.  It wasn't bad, though it did have some drawbacks.  They don't use a high quality combination of cheeses for example, and they don't bake it so there is no crispy top.

The place itself is bare bones in setup.  They have a very large counter where you can order for takeout or eat-in.  If you eat in, all you get is a communal table.  There is no follow-on wait service, no BBQ sauces, no nothing.  It is very reminiscent of eating at a fast food restaurant.  So, zero ambiance.

In the pecking order, they fare better than Hill Country and are probably on par with Blue Smoke.  They are not as good as Dinosaur and certainly not as good as Fette Sau.  Your mileage may vary.

As you can see from my previous reviews, I am quite a BBQ fanatic, so believe me when I say that Daisy May's is worth the trek to 11th Avenue. What isn't so clear is why an 11th Avenue BBQ joint charges Times Square prices... but once again, believe me when I say it's worth it. This place churns out consistently excellent BBQ -- and is a very convenient pre-game/dinner location before a concert at Terminal 5, for instance.

My favorites on the menu are the pulled pork sandwich (topped with cole slaw -- I recommend getting it on the side) and the bourbon peaches. Oh, lord, I would eat those peaches for every meal if I could. Some might find them a bit sweet -- and indeed, they are bathed in a sugary glaze... but the subtle taste of bourbon is nonetheless quite perceptible. The mac and cheese is also just right, right and flavorful.

The delivery service is also remarkable -- we ordered on a rainy evening at 7:20pm and were told we wouldn't get our food until 9:15-20... and Daisy May's is that good that we were prepared to wait. Anyway, imagine our surprise when the food arrived at 8:30pm. On one hand, if you set low enough expectations, you'll always exceed them. But on the other hand, this was a rainy weekend night at peak dinner hours... come on. They deserve credit. Love this place!

Bow before the dry rub, Mortals!!!

First of all, it seems that Yelp fans are not so fond of this place and I feel that you should judge a BBQ joint for its own sake, not from the Dallas BBQ standard. You are also there to enjoy the food so judging the restaurant based on the treatment that you received from the fact that you went there a little bit before closing is pretty unfair. Remember that you are not tipping the workers there. Remember the time when you work as a waitress in NY.

Second of all, now we are getting to the real art of BBQ. BBQ is the art of American cuisine. It is something that you should sing the National Anthem to and worship the meat. This is something that you can claim that you didn't get the influence from your grandmother from Sicily. Barbecue requires the pit master to have a love affair with the meat before he can spend 8 hours to cook your ribs. If you want the made to order BBQ, you are not talking about the American "slow cooking" BBQ, you are talking about the Chinese Take Out place next to your house.

Comparing this place to Dinosaur BBQ uptown and Rub on 14th street, I think this place is more memorable. Dinosaur BBQ made me wait too long. (One time I waited there for over an hour for a table.) Rub always ran out of the good stuff every time we were there. Tasting the TN dry rubs at Daisy May today and I must say that it was the money well spent. The Oklahoma jumbo rib, though was on the pricey side, was bigger than my head that we couldn't finish it and had to take it home.  The collar green was one of the best collar green I ever had. The ice tea added a nice touch by serving it in a giant glass mason jar. And, yes if you have read a bit more about the ice tea down south, it is supposed to be sweeter than what we drink here in NY.

In short, New Yorkers are spoiled from having all these great BBQ establishments: Rub, Dinosaur, Hill Country, Blue Smoke, and Daisy May. Don't judge NY BBQ from the South standard, real estate here is expensive to even have a room to build a BBQ smoker. If you want a cheap BBQ, add the plane ticket cost to your food bill and fly somewhere else.

Oklahoma beef rib.  If I am to go back, this will be the only main entree I'd order.

In fairness to the pulled pork and beef brisket, I think they would have been better in a sandwich, which would have allowed the bread and slaw to offset the otherwise overpowering taste.

As for sides, we ordered the mashed potatoes, dirty rice, peaches and beans.  I didn't have the peaches but had everything else.  The beans were pretty good but I'd say the dirty rice and potatoes were just average.

I'm not necessarily opposed to the cafeteria-type atmosphere as a concept, but Daisy May's definitely fails in the execution.  I don't think this has allowed them to cut out the middleman (in terms of pricing) so, all things being equal, the cafeteria concept doesn't work here.  It's also just plain un-environmental for them to be using plastic everything when they can/should be using proper silverware for people who eat in.  I think it's just laziness on their part and it's unacceptable.

THEY LITERALLY TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS ON US. Yes, you read that right.

This was my first time coming here and unfortunately will be my last. It was Friday night and this place closes at 10pm. We ordered food at 9:45pm, and they served us our order. Obviously they weren't closed for business. My friends and I spent about $100 worth of food only to be treated in the worst way possible! While we were eating, they put up the chairs AND turned off the TV. Fine, obvious sign that we should finish up. This was already rude, but tolerable I guess. By this time, it was 10:15. Then five minutes later, THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF! We were also just finishing up! We had to ask them to turn the lights back on and they said, "Oh, we're trying to close." Sorry, but turning the lights off on your customers is probably not the best way to communicate. We couldn't even enjoy our drinks and this pretty much ruined our whole experience there.

I understand that we were "that group" that shows up right before the place closes. But turning off everything, including the lights, is pretty ridiculous. Not even McDonald's would do that to their customers! If you didn't want us to stay, don't serve us food and take our money.

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had so far. I'm pretty tolerable with rude people, but this was by far passed rude.

Please go to Rub BBQ or Dinosaur BBQ instead. This place is just shameful in service and ambiance. Also, it's overpriced compared to what you can get elsewhere. It's no wonder there's no wait and empty tables here. We should've took that as a hint.
