Updated! New interior and menu. Seems classier somehow.
I would compare the burgers to Burger King (see photo). You actually get lettuce and tomato in the cheapest burger on the menu, and the edges of the patty have that charred texture. At McDonalds, the burgers look like Play-Dough mold forms, same texture too.
Not to bash McD's. Their stuff is comfort food to me. Nothing gets me through a bad day like an order of fries.
But back to Dairy Queen - yes, you can still get a dilly bar even though it's no longer on the menu. And you can still get a burger for $1. But you don't have to eat it on a sticky bench.

This place is a pig sty. Every time I go there, without exception, the booths are dirty, the floor is sticky, the restrooms are messy. Plus, they always seem understaffed. No sir, I don't like it and I'm not going back until I really have a bad blizzard fix.
"Daaad, can we go to Dairy Queen?" The kids just want the ice cream cones, really. Their burgers are pretty similar to McDonald's. Their popcorn shrimp wasn't bad.
