I went to Daily Soup when I couldn't chew anything, and boy am I glad I did.
All of the soups were really tasty, fresh, and fairly cheap. I'm not vegetarian, but I *love* vegetables, so I was happy to see several good plant-filled options.
Too bad these punks always close at around 4:30! I would go here all the time if they were open just one or two more hours. I guess soup always tastes better when you're home sick, though.Listed in: Newark's Restaurant…

I'm not one for eating the same lunch everyday as I get bored quite easily - especially with food - but I can have a tuna wrap from this place just about everyday. The owner is beyond friendly and accommodating. One day they were out of the tuna wraps and he gave me his card and said to call ahead next time and they'd put one aside for me!
This place went through some changes. They used to only have soup and the decor was pretty minimal and drab. Now they serve wraps in addition to the many soups (always quite a few vegetarian options) and other hot sandwiches as well as these crazy ice cream mix-in things in the summer (thick and full of candy, cookies, or you name it - they have a zillion mix-ins for you to choose from). The decor now is warm and inviting in that you want to sit and lounge over your lunch instead of grabbing it to go. The other day they were showing Kung Fu Hustle on the flat screen TV and they always have magazines for you to flip through if you're dining solo. But really the reason to go is the soup and tuna wraps.. -

Good soup, but pretty pricey. About $6 for a bowl, which is New York prices in Newark NJ. That being said, the soup is fresh, it's creative, and the owner of the store is really friendly. There is also a 10% discount for students.
Great place to visit on a cold and/or rainy day! -

Soup is good food, and these folks make good soup. There's usually 10 or 12 offerings a day, including a couple vegetarian soups and a couple spicy ones. And the spicy ones really are spicy. If you eat in, there are newspapers and magazines to read, and it offers free wi-fi, too.
One slight drawback: I have noticed that they tend to run out of stuff earlier than you'd expect. Crab chowder sounded like a great idea, but when I ordered it they were out just after 1 p.m.! That old standby - chicken noodle - hit the spot nevertheless.
And as another reviewer said, the tuna wraps here are excellent. -

Good stuff. Crazy old soup makers making crazy old soups. Visit there website if your a vegan because they usually have a vegan or vegetarian soup and the website lets you know before you go. The soup is insane good. They make soup like its there job...... Seriously though its great and extremely creative, beer sausage pretzel soup... Cheddar Tomato soup... Yam and pumpkin soup this list can go on forever .... not to mention a mastery of the classics, chicken noodle, Tomato, split pea.... again the list goes on... hell you could even get gazpacho on hot days. They also have wraps quesodilla salads and Fro yo (all types of crazy old flavors).. Quesodillas are good and fresh made the wraps and salads eh they're fresh made too.... they all pale in comparison to an amazing bowl of soup... Oh and the price is right here 6-7 bucks will get ya plenty full...

The food here is expensive for Newark, and the place is run on such a small scale that incompetence and bad service abound. Even large chain soup stores might run out of soups after the lunch rush, but that is not the issue here. One day, they had no ingredients to make any of their combos but did not put a sign on the menu stating such, as they might do if a soup sells out, such that people were forced to wait on line only to be told that they couldn't make anything on the menu because "we don't got no cheese" and many other ingredients, including anything that goes in the salad that comes with virtually everything. I don't know if the manager just wasn't there that day, but a simple trip to the supermarket might have rectified the situation. I've also had very bad experiences with delivery--a wait of over an hour to go a short distance, being told after waiting for fifteen minutes on hold that they were too short-staffed to make any deliveries that day, etc. This slowness is endemic to the place, as evidenced by the snail's pace through which they move people through the line. Whenever I've been on the line, I've had to wait an eternity for the counter-people to get off the phone, yet whenever I would call to order, I would be put on hold by multiple people for long periods of time. For all this high demand, the soups aren't even that good--not on par with the Soup Man or even Hale and Hearty in New York. The basic chicken noodle is tasteless with mushy, overcooked noodles, and many of the other recipes are simply bizarre. You're better off buying microwaveable Campbell's and saving yourself the hassle.
