Our visit to the Daily Grill is that it was perfectly forgettable. In 2 weeks I won't remember a thing so I better write this review now. The service was slow-ish but fine. The ambiance was a Maggiano's ripoff, however we did admire the light fixtures. It was about 10 degrees below freezing in there so I shuddered my way through an acceptable cup of gazpacho and lime chicken salad. When asking around the table "how's your food?" it was a half-shrugged "i've had better" every time. That about sums it up.

We got an invite to their pre-opening test night. The drinks were really good, even with a limited selection. For dinner, I started with the crab cake, which was hands-down the best crab cake I have ever had, and I am a huge crab fan. We both ordered steaks with some sides. The wait staff was super-friendly and kept coming back to check on us. Unfortunately, the food took a really long time to come out, but due to the fact that everything was free, it was no big deal to us. The steaks were very good.
We went back a second time last night, and were not dissapointed. I went with the crab cakes again, and while they weren't a "10" like the first time, they were still quite good (8.75). I had the chopped steak and onion, which was really just a giant hamburger, but was quite tasty. Monkey had the skirt steak, which was also really flavorful. Prices are a bit on the high side ($28 for a steak), but they are quality cuts of beef. This place is somehow tied to Smith & Wollensky's, so I'm sure they get their beef from the same place. The fish menu didn't really have anything that jumped out at me (halibut, and a few freshwater fish dishes), which stinks because I was in the mood for fish. Oh well. We will go back here because it is close, the food has been good both times, and they make some mean cocktails.

Applebees plus 1 star, maybe.
The food is mediocre. The service is well intentioned but amateurish. Avoid.
Our experience would have been a lot better if our food would have been hot. Our appetizers and my entree were all lukewarm, at best. They did, however, taste pretty good. The only disappointment was my entree, chicken piccata...not enough sauce, and the chicken was too thick, making it a little tough. My girlfriend's crab cakes were tasty with a lot of lump crabmeat. The cupcakes they had for a dessert special were pretty good, more of a novelty than anything. I was a little surprised at how expensive some of their food is, my piccata was definitely not worth $19, and our spinach dip was around $11!!! Our service was great, personable and attentive. The Prudential Center is a perfect spot for Daily Grill and should do well.

I took my grandparents here yesterday and we had a great time. It was kind of slow, so the wait staff was very attentive. Our food was delicious. I had the skirt steak, and my grandmother had the soft shell crabs, which were fresh from Maryland, and are apparently seasonal, but she thought they were delicious! The portions here are huge (atleast to me)... My roommate got the Pesto Penna with Chicken, and had enough leftover for two lunches! We also got dessert... my grandmother got Key Lime Pie, which was another really large portion, and she said it was the best Key Lime Pie she had ever had! My roommate and I split the Fudge Brownie pie, which was absolutely to die for! All of our food was hot and came out promptly! Also, they have a really good selection of hot teas :) And our waiter was cute ;)
This place was really disappointing, and I don't see how this will stay in business in the long run.
1. The food was your typical American fare, a bit overpriced.
2. It took nearly fifteen minutes to receive our drinks, and even longer for those who ordered alcoholic beverages (which I don't understand since the place was pretty much empty).
3. The waiter seemed to have little experience. His hands were unsteady in giving us our drinks. He also spilled water on the table AND on my friend's back.
4. It was windy and we sat near the window/doors. The waitress waiting on the outside tables kept using the door in back of my chair, pushing my chair in the process. It annoyed me to no end, especially since there was another door just a few steps away from our table.
5. The food came out warm, not hot. I don't understand this since they even have those metal covers over the food when they presented it to us.
6. You could see the waitstaff in the kitchen just hanging out and staring at all of us. It didn't seem professional.
My overall opinion: Food was OK. I would have rather spent my money at Stephanie's or Houston's. I will not be going to this place anytime soon.
According to their website you are supposed to walk into any Daily Grill and be "immediately reminded of the great grills of days gone by." I believe the menu specifically speaks of the grills of the 1920's, of course. Days gone by indeed. However, outside of a fairly weak advertisement the restaurant is pretty nice. The overall decor does have an early 1900s look to it though, nicely updated with a contemporary vibe. The menu is simple and straightforward, filled with well-meaning "classic" grill type choices. I ate lunch with my dad. He choose the Reuben with coleslaw and I had the Turkey Melt with fresh fruit (watermelon, pineapple, orange slices). Both sandwiches were delicious if a little expensive (both around 12 bucks). Wine list is simple, not a lot of surprises, but the Martini list looks pretty good. Overall I'd say the Daily Grill is a nice addition to Back Bay and a welcome replacement for Applebee's. I think it fits in nicely with the restaurants around it, I'll certainly be going back.
