this is a tale of the one that got away. i'm sure you've heard it all before. girl meets shoes (in this case, pristine dark purple neiman marcus private label ankle boots circa early 80s). girl tries shoes on, and they're fab together, kindred, if you will. but girl is hesitant, she's been burned before. by another pair of gotta-have-it heels that now sit barely worn in her closet. and then there's the pair that fell apart soon after purchase. and yet another pair that cost too pretty a penny to hurt so damn much. so she checks herself and vows to think things over as she continues shopping with her already impatient friends ... this is their first stop of many, after all, plenty more to see. but with each store, her thoughts return to those boots, and she knows without a doubt that they're destined to be hers. and so she excitedly hurries back to that first store (daha) only to find that the boots left with another woman, and she has no one to blame but herself. crestfallen, gal weeps copious tears.
but the heartbreak only lasts for so long because, thankfully, daha (formerly, i'm guessing, of edith & daha, which is now just edith machinist) stocks a good number of lovely vintage shoes and boots, always in good condition and at reasonable prices. and so if you can't be with the one you love, honey, well, love the one you're with.Listed in: east side., pleasure little treasure

It's true that this store has the most amazing, beautiful, and mint condition collection of vintage shoes I have ever seen. It's also incredibly unfortunate that I bought 3 pairs of shoes and my friend bought one. My friend was the first to wear her shoes out, and the tips to BOTH of her heels fell off before she got to her destination. Huh, that's weird!
Then, I wore a pair of shoes out and lost BOTH tips of the heels before I got to the train. I went home to look at one of the other pairs of shoes that I had only worn around the house. One of the tips of the heels was ALSO missing. Come to find out that you pay a lot for these beautiful vintage shoes that appear to have been reheeled but do NOT have the heels hammered in.
Basically, you're paying too much for a pair of shoes that you now have to get reheeled and the heels have been gnawed by the mean streets of NYC and are no longer in mint condition. SHADY. -

What makes a vintage store stellar?
1. It offers wide selection/inventory of clothing and accessories from different periods. CHECK
2. Prices are affordable (not too expensive or elitist in price). CHECK-- My first three purchases averaged $50 each.
3. There's helpful, friendly staff. CHECK
4. Last, but not least, you can find one of a kind pieces and brands from revered designers. CHECK!!! Those first three pieces were a cobalt blue wool stretch skirt by Missoni and a 70's two piece cotton separate set (blouse and skirt) by Diane Von Furstenberg.
As one of my go to places for retail therapy, my only regret was discovering this place two months before I moved out of LES. -

Lordy, lordy.
You want a pair of fabo 80s style vintage boots? This is the place to go.
They have about a bazillion pairs, in larger sizes, which the lovely, fantastic sales gal told us is a rare thing indeed. And they have THE most beautiful snakeskin pumps that you have always wanted. Oh yes.
I found a pink lacy vintage dress here that makes me look 'tart'alicious.
I do believe that I will be wearing it to an art opening this Friday.Listed in: New York!

Daha is a gem of a vintage store.
Boots, boots, boots, and more boots line the walls.... An endless collection of bags.. Beautiful jewelry and fun accessories. Lots of coats and hats. I did fall in love with a beautiful leather coat and am kicking myself for leaving it behind! There definitely are some treasures there.
The store is huge, bright, and airy, the clothes and shoes perfectly organized. You should definitely check it out.Listed in: Pamper me

Got a great purse here! I never found shoes in my size and the clothing was either not my style or beautiful but too expensive (furs!!). But they have a great bag collection that is reasonably priced.

Best selection of vintage boots you can find! Sure, I could go to Loeffler Randall and drop +$600 on the perfect pair of distressed-looking, caramel colored, flat-soled, knee-high boots made of the richest buttery leather--but why would I when Daha has several pairs that are $500 cheaper and have more character (aka. not mass produced)?
.......or, maybe I'm just bitter I because I can't afford Loeffler Randall boots.
Regardless, Daha has a hot boot selection. And helpful employees.

This place is awesome for boots, I won't deny that.
But say it's Spring....and maybe you're not looking for boots. Maybe you're looking for cute heels or flats.
And maybe you wear a 6.5.
Daha isn't the place for you. Thought I could find cute short summer boots or shoes...no such luck. They have heels and flats, but the selection is limited (especially if you don't wear size 8+).
The bag selection? Uninspiring and overpriced. I'll go back in the Fall to look for boots - but not expecting much, they probably won't have my size. -

Daha is a great vintage store - it is very open, clean, and all the items are in tip top shape. There is a great selection of bags...all kinds of bags. I picked up a nice Gucci bag here. There is also a great selection of shoes. All the shoes are in amazing condition so no repairs necessary.
My only negative about this place is it's expensive!!! So overpriced but I guess it Manhattan.
A good thing to know is that the price that's on the tag can usually be negotiated. The lady gave me a deal on the Gucci bag. -

I was browsing for prom shoes here. They have a GREAT selection of vintage shoes.
BUT... my feet are too wide to fit comfortably into any of their size 7 shoes!
It was such a disappointment. Even the boots were about 3 inches at the ball of foot. My god damn feet always get me into this problem.
Anyway, if you have narrow feet then check this place out. -

I happened to visit this store while the shopkeeper was having lunch behind the register. She seemed genuinely irritated by my intrusion. Look, you want to eat your lunch on the job, I've got no issues with that, but you're not allowed to be angry at me if I stop in while you happen to be gnoshing. I tried to make peace by complimenting her on the space and layout of the store (which, btdubs, is EPIC - it's more loft-like, modern art gallery than vintage boutique) - no dice. She pretended I wasn't there, which is fine as I prefer to browse undisturbed. Still, it was awkward.
The clothes get a big fat meh - same overpriced polyester crapola charcteristic of the LES Vintage scene. The boots at Daha, however, were a serious step up from its neighborhood brethren like WHOA. The selection was meticulously organized by size and color - hundreds of expertly-preserved pairs lined the perimeter of the space. I was pleased to find many in the $110 range - not cheap, but not ridiculous either, particularly for mint-condition vintage boots.
I was impressed to the point of temptation, and might have tried a few pairs on... if the woman running the place hadn't been such a standoffish bitch. -

I LOVE this vintage store. it's spacious and not crammed or dusty like most vintage stores around LES & East Village. things are truely pulled pieces from a different era and in great condition. some pieces are a little pricey, but I've seem some bargaining happen here. The owner is nice and does everything. The other girls that I've seen in the store definitely don't have the understanding of vintage like the owner (maybe that's biased?).
my shopping experience: I've been anticipating all weekend for a new purse and unlike my collection of longchamp, miu miu and gucci, I've been dying for something unique. and I'm unable to throw down $500-$1800 unlike my other bags. as a girl, whenever you go out to search for something you need, you find nothing or end up buying something trite. however, I kept thinking about Daha. It was the first store I walked into to look for a purse, and right when I walked in, saw my purse. $140 for a beautiful perfect condition leather Marino Orlandi.
I also work around the block from the place, but I resist from going in religiously. -

One of the best vintage stores in NYC. Very clean, high quality, beautiful vintage clothing and accessories.

They have an impressive selection of vintage shoes and boots that are all in really excellent condition. Prices are high but you are paying for not having to scour musty thrift shops for pieces that you then have to restore yourself. Its really a great place to go to find quality vintage pieces, especially when you are looking for a certain style or designer brand.

Great selection of vintage items. What caught my eye from outside was the cleanliness of the place and the many, many shoes on display and so well organized in size. Sprinkled along the perimeter were handbags as well as vintage threads. None of the clothes sparked my interest but a lot of the bags and shoes did. I saw a red, leather oversized clutch from Neiman but the price was still pretty high (for me), retailing for $75. I'm saving my money for a vintage Chanel purse so I may have to visit again especially now that I know the price can be negotiated (per Liza B.)!

If you are looking for a great selection of boots and bags this is the place. Their sales lady was extremely helpful when I asked her a question. They do have racks to vintage dresses and coats- an excellent store for that too. Huge ceilings provide a good atmosphere.

This place is great if you're looking for boots as they have an enormous selection. However the clothing is a little run of the mill and there's a lot of poly. The bags are amazing but are a little on the pricey side. The space itself is open and organized.

My favorite vintage store in NYC for two reasons: awesome selection and reasonable prices. As mentioned in the other reviews, the shoe selection is unbelievable and literally wraps around the entire store. i have found amazing pieces there like a wool cape, 60s shift dress, gold necklace and cute pumps, and have never spent more than $100 (which was for the cape, everything else was under $75). A must if you are a vintage-lover that wants quality pieces in good condition at fair prices.

The girl working there today was very unprofessional. She was clearly upset about something and was SCREAMING on the phone in the store creating an awkward situation for all the customers to say the least. The clothes and shoes seemed pretty cute but wanted to leave quickly. The owner should really let this person go. With that kind of temperament and the hostile environment that staff person created is unfortunate since the store really loses out on its full potential and is not run in its best interest. She was clearly having a bad day but this is a prime example of how not to run a business.

cute, cute shoes!! at reasonable prices to boot. usually vintage stores are a little skimpy on their shoe collections but at daha, it's the other way around.
