Incredible space with an old feel to it.  When you walk in, you get the impression that the restaurant has existed since the early 1900's, especially the building itself!  All of this adds to the charm of the place.  The bar is full, complete with great beer on tap and top shelf liquor.  They have space for wedding receptions or birthday parties, bands, and dancing.  Not to miss is the lovely back patio with a lovely tree to stand behind while sneaking a kiss with somebody.

The first time I ever went to Dago Mary's was last year to see the Poontang Wranglers perform.  It is big enough to handle large groups and perfect for bday parties.  Plenty of parking inside the gate right next to the restaurant  (so it is pretty safe.)  It is a unique location, the outside back porch has the most amazing view and everyone that lives in SF should see it before it is destroyed forever.  If people haven't gone there yet,  please do before it is torn down.  The city plans to demolish it by the end of April.

I've been here by day and by night.  Two very different experiences, but both made delightfully memorable by the same character that this historical establishment simply exhales in the industrial waste-trodden corner of San Francisco's old naval yard.

By day, I had lunch with a friend who turned out to be craftily introducing me to his "business associate", both interested in recruiting me into their lame ass multilevel marketing crap.  I'm glad I had a delicious plate of food I could bury my face in:  old-fashioned spaghetti and meatballs, in fact.  Having something as plain and old skool as this is inexplicably imperative, especially when the large portrait of the establishment's matriarch projects her voice in your head to suggest you won't be disappointed.

By night, I drank a lot here.  A lot.  It was a special event of sorts:  an indie film production team used the venue as a location for their final night of shooting, and I was a volunteer hand for the day.  And that night, things ran looooong.  By the time the wrap was called past midnight, everybody was already piled all over the bar waiting for a double of anything alcoholic.  And there was so much merriment for hours on end, our host had a bit of a scolding from the poh-leece for, you know, a technicality in the city code.  So kudos to them for keeping the party alive and being so game with a bunch that was literally turning the bar and half of the restaurant inside out after hours.

This review is more of a eulogy... because after almost 80 years in the thirst-quenching business, Dago Mary's is closing down soon. Dago Mary's is everything positive that others have already written here, as is Hunter's Point where Dago Mary's has served up the locals as well as the traveller (not to mention the US Navy) for 4 generations. These old saloons are getting harder and harder to find, especially one's with such provocative, politically-incorrect names as Dago Mary's. As a 94124 local and a Friday night regular elbow-bender there, it is really a sad occasion for me to lose this beloved hangout. Many thanks to Rick the manager/chef, Erin the waitress (and all my friends who leaned on the big long wooden bar with me there) for so many good memories.

I Had the best burger in years here today for lunch. This place is so far removed from the city but is a great establishment that has been around since the 1930's. It is located right at the gate to hunters point shipyard.

The dinning room is like a ball room of a mansion or an upscale old hotel with a fire place and a full bar. The menu is mostly Italian but simple dishes and nothing fancy or fusion.

Our wait staff was very attentive and appeared to have worked there for a long long time.

I will definitely go back for lunch again but I don't know about night time considering the area.

Our dept. went here for a goodbye lunch for our fearless learer  and all I can say is WOW. This place blew me away. The space is just beautiful, although we did take advantage of the nice day and sit on the patio. It was lovely (even with the heavy machinery lumbering by...good lord. Please please please don't let them be building lame cookie cutter lofts there...please!!!) I had two excellent bloody marys, which were *spicy,* like I asked, and the food was solid, if not the most creative. Like Original Joe's, it's very 50s style dago food. The service was outstanding. Way cool, timely, unobstrusive, observant. Our waitress was a TOTAL pro. Man, they should have live music there on weekends. I am saddened to read of it's impending closing. I wish I'd known earlier, I would have been going more regularly. I'm going to find out when they are really closing (if they haven't already) and get a bunch of people to go down there before they do. This place reminds me of what Kelly's Mission Rock was like before they tore it down and made it stupid. Why does cool shit like this always have to die?

I always make my Father take me here for lunch. I love the kitch, the food, and he gets to feel like he is escorting/ protecting his little girl on the way there.

Highlights in no particular order:
The fuzzy wallpaper that I always sneak a pet of.
The crab louie...delicouse.
The great view.
They never carded a clearly underage girl when she was sharing a glass of wine with her pop.
The fuzzy wallpaper.

Just inside the main gate of the Hunters Point Shipyard is a San Francisco Landmark...

I read a review that said they serve only lunch... not true. This is a great place to meet friends after work too... come for a beer, and stay for some dinner. Friendly and low key atmosphere. They have a great patio with views of the bay, Friendly staff, and when Rick is in the kitchen they have fabulous food... oh yeah, and $2 pints if Speakeasy on Fridays...

This place is well worth the trek...

What a find.  Discussed amidst quiet hushed tones, there are a few neighborhoods in San Francisco which are avoided altogether because their proximity to low rise projects and crime.  The ones that are always mentioned seem to be Hunter's Point and Bayview.  Yet many fail to realize that Hunter's Point is more than just crime and a blur while driving south of the city on 101.  There is a very romantic notion to this portion of the city that is dotted with bayside cranes and enormous brick warehouses that have seen better days.  The blinking red lights atop those giant cranes are the only things that seem to be alive but there are quite a few hidden finds that are not only Yelpable but extremely fun to visit.  One of those places is so far tucked away in Hunter's Point you will feel like you took a trip to a completely different city.  Out past the post office, the imposing and lonely power plant and even past a guarded gate.  There you will find Dago Mary's which serves only lunch -- so plan your safari accordingly.  Prices are a bit steep as the cheapest item under $10 is the cheeseburger which comes split into two and served with a helping of fries.  For those non-meat eaters, they have a variety of pastas which are good but are a bit pricey, clocking in at around $13-15.  The inside is classic with twin marble columns that flank the fireplace.  The patriotic feel is enhanced with a flags of the United States and California.  You definitely feel like part of the infrastructure of what once was a much busier shipping and blue-collar scene, yet so far removed from the fast-paced lifestyle that San Franciscans find themselves mired in day in and day out just a few miles north.  What a find, indeed.
