Any place that does a good tator tot is just fine with me.  In the course of a long weekend I found myself at Daddy's 3 times: Once for a drink(s) before dinner, once for lunch, and once to watch some football.  Daddy-O came through on all occasions.  The bar is small and cozy.  The service is good.  The food, while a tidge on the pricey side for bar eats, is great.  I recommend the pizzas and the tots.  I've also heard the burgers are great, though I still have yet to try one.

Overall, Daddy-O gets my stamp of approval.  It's great for after work drinks, hungover brunch, lunch and everything in-between.

A one-room bar that is a little TOO cozy and not enough upscale. That being said, its cocktails are fantastic and worth every penny. With bottle upon bottle of quality liquor, a sharp professional atmosphere, green-and-brown old school bar coloring, and good staff behind the counter, you'd think you stepped into a bar from Mad Men.

The food is routinely voted best bar food in the city, and I can't argue. Though I've only tried a couple, as the crowd moved from sparse (at 5 PM) to pleasantly full (7 P.M.), more and more delicious-looking places wafted out of the kitchen. Keep up the good work, Daddy-O, and when I want to impress a gal with my classiness, you'll be near the top of the list.

BEER SELECTION: Limited to four on draft, but two dozen on the bottle. Expensive ($7-10) either way, but with a few deals (PBR for $3).
FOOD: Great. I can't speak TOO highly of it due to small sample size, but everybody seemed really please.
SERVICE: I ordered a scotch and milk and the bartender didn't even bat an eyelash. For that, good sir, you've earned my eternal love.

This also happens to be a Steelers' bar. While the scene is not as rowdy as Reservoir or Texas-Arizona, Daddy-O makes up for it for the tight-knit group of fans who show up to buy Iron City (by the bottle).

Small, but an upscale, clean pub.
The service was great, and the locals treated us really well.
The bartender even vetoed my beer choice for something she felt I would enjoy more.  Gotta love that.

Small generally quiet bar right around the corner from village tavern just off of 7th ave in the west village. I have been there a couple times and the beer selection is solid, and they play the Black Keys albums there often so its automically cool as shit. Swing in if you are in that neighborhood and want a low maintenance hang out spot.

Decent beer selection and friendly bartenders. The bar wasn't too packed and after a little while my group of ten friends was able to push a few tables together and sit down. Also, the tater tots were great.

In trying to find a place suitable for a group of us to go to as an after work drink night, we were recommended Daddy-O in the West Village. We were told they make some fantastic tater-tots so we decided to give it a try.

The tater tots were in fact quite delicious and the service was pretty awesome. The only problem was that it is a very small space and their were a bunch of "suits" that showed up for a private party (even though the place remained open for general business). Everything here is WAY overpriced. The cheapest beer runs $7 and a hamburger will set you back $14. For a bar I feel that's way expensive. The side of tater tots cost $6.

Again the service and food were really good, but they clearly cater to those who can afford to drop money here and there. If you're broke don't go. If you're rolling in it go and take me too.

I often allow myself to get dragged to the dreaded Village Tavern because I can always predict the outcome: eventual tator tot joyousness.  What happens is I claim I'm not going to go to VT, of course still go, get wasted because I think majority of clientele are DBs & all I know how to do in that situation is get drunk on Coors Light.

Eventually I get hungry, insist on leaving, stumble into Daddy-O, order a Marker's & a burger (way too salty, but satisfying) with extra tots.  This allows me to not consider the night a complete failure.

Daddy-O is hands-down my favorite neighborhood haunt, though I'm cheating a bit since I live down the block. They carry two Abita beers, Purple Haze and Turbo Dog, and, as a New Orleans native, the instant I saw that on their menu I was sold. They have some great specialty cocktails and a full bar, but I usually go for the Abita. The bartenders/servers are all very friendly and attentive; twice I've stopped drinking before my company finishes their drinks, and both times the bartender noticed this and made sure to get me a glass of water (one time without even asking). At 99% of bars, once I stop buying alcohol, the staff ignores me and I have to specifically ask for a glass of water. That may seem minor, but to me it's a testament to how well-run the place is.

As for the food, I'm sad to see that so many people have been disappointed by it. I've had both the burger (bun from Amy's bread!) and the shrimp quesadilla, and, as far as laid-back bar food goes, they were both delicious. My boyfriend, also a Louisiana native, loves their catfish sandwich, which is saying a lot. When I don't feel like cooking or venturing too far after work, I usually head straight to Daddy-O. I've taken friends there several times, and they've all had very positive reviews.

Note: The owner is a HUGE Steelers fan, so if you happen to stop by during football season while a Steelers game is on, it will likely be very crowded with people watching the game.

Lets be clear here...I came here for the tots.  As a side note I've always wanted to know how they make all the little pieces of potato stay compressed and in shape to form the tot.  I'm guessing crazy glue but I dunno.

Another thing I think I should mention about this place  is I would consider it a Restaurant/Bar and little stuffy.  You know the type..a little higher end than the typical bars in the area and has more of a focus on food than other places do as opposed to bar then restaurant.  We sat at a table that actually overlooked another bar and I just remember thinking.."I'm kinda bored here.  Those people over there sure do look like they are having a good time..".  I actually could see their TV better than the one here.

Anyway...We ordered the tots with an order of wings.  Focus is definitely on quality and not quantity.  I had to get a piece of pizza after we left actually.

Tots:  Very tasty and crunchy.  What stood out though was a spice they put on top.  I'm guessing Old Bay but it was really tasty that way.

Wings:  I love wings...absolutely love them.  Wasn't too too impressed with them here aside from the fact it was about $1 a wing.  Wouldn't get them again.

Bottom Line: Seemed a little over priced for what you get but would be a perfect place to bring a lady as a first date.  Don't expect to be full when you leave.

After one too many at LB we got confused, turned around and mistook this place for Corner Bistro. They really do look the same in the dark.

We walked in, looked at each other and said 'Why is the back closed?', shrugged and proceeded to sit down. Looked at the menus... What is this? Corner Bistro doesn't serve shrimp! We're still trying to figure out what's going on when we hear a guy next to us on the phone telling a friend he's at Daddy-O's. Daddy-O's? Ok, whatever, will go with it. In retrospect we should have known we were at the wrong place, because the bartender was actually smiling.

I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and my companion had a regular cheeseburger. We both had tater tots instead of fries. The burgers were... Meh. Mine was overdone, and too salty for my taste which is a feat because I put extra salt on everything. There was one (ONE!) strip of bacon cut in half on it. The tater tots were too salty too. I asked for a side of mayo and was given Ranch dressing.

On the bright side the music was really good, the drinks were really strong and the service was quick and polite.

I'd come back for drinks, but not so sure I could be convinced to eat there again.

Really nice bar (fancy, solid counter) fully stocked with varieties of whiskeys.  I went, however, for the Daddy-O burger.  Once listed by Time Out as one of the 100 best burgers in NY, it was tasty.  Very nice patty that left my plate full of beef juice.  Tater tots were a really nice touch, good bit of seasoning and pepper.

stumbled upon this place by walking by and seeing the lunch menu... had the cheeseburger and it was pretty good.  Good sized and tasty, but the star of the show was the Tater Tots! Very crunchy and wonderful!

seems like a low key, chill place and it doesnt hurt that they have a Steelers helmet over the bar.  Uber-clean black decor was a little stand-offish

My home away from home. Wait, I don't even live in NY. But my one of my best friends does. And she lives up the block. After 5 months away, they still know my name here. My glass is never empty, even when my dignity is gone.  I hear them talking. "She's on her 8th mojito. How can she be so little and drink so much?"

A comely tall drink of water sits down next to me. Conversation ensues.  He leaves some money on the bar, and slips me a crumpled piece of paper in my hand. I think, alright, NY is my type of town.

Until I read the fine print. AA, my ass.

After escaping the clubbyness of Le Royale across the street my crew and I stumbled upon this little gem for just a good old fashion plain drink.

I have to admit, the "People Love Us Yelp" sticker caught my eye.

Pretty solid bar. Really nice selection of GOOD booze and beer: Arrogant Bastard Ale on Tap, Laphroig Quarter Cask Scotch, tons of bourbon, tequila, fine gins, you name it. I was excited.

Oh, and the kicker was seeing on the specialty cocktail board, "The Last Word", which believe-you-me, is aptly named.

I have to try these midnight tater tots.

This bar was Clean. The bar was impeccably clean. I ate a chicken finger that dropped on the bar. It almost tasted better from the bar than from the plate. They have a long list of good drink standards that they promote, and of course, one of my tests is if they have real lime juice to make gin gimlets. And they do, so that's always a plus.
Anywho the guinness was good. I could see this place being impractical for tons of random people flooding the bar as the tables take up quite a bit of space (its fairly small), but the crowd was lively and no brosephs or hipsters around, and its on a great block.

Nice bar, good drinks, better food, great laid back vibe.

I've been in here a few times and I've never regretted it.  Luce (Loo-chay) the bartender and Phil the owner are real class acts and do a lot to make their customers feel welcome.  They've got awesome burgers and the Red and White hot dogs are definitely worth the trip.

Go here to kill time, catch a game, grab a bite, or hang out.

I usually made my way to Daddy-O after a busy dinner service, when we were tired and hungry and felt the need to be filled with beef and beer.  We'd order our burgers with bacon, Medium-rare and several Pork Slap's.  They never let me down when I was wiped out, and when I'm in the area or the Corner Bistro is a little too crazy, I make my way over.

Can a bar feel warm and friendly, but look cool and reserved?  Daddy-O comes close, with its polished elegance (check out the beautiful bar area, all that distinguished wood), and a hip sense of its west village neighborhood. Not a scene, not a meat market, just a classy place to have a drink or two with friends. Strikes a balance between not too-empty and not too-full.  Two small sports screens, but discrete and not distracting.

Cuisine is "fancy bar food." With a corresponding upmark on the prices. But I was told the burger and tater tots were a high point.  Confirmed! Service was quick, the burger melted in my mouth and even the bun was fun to eat (from Blue Ribbon Bakery). This isn't a minimalist's burger -- it comes piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and a special sauce that blows McDonald's out of the water.  Washed down with a pint of beer and you're ready to hit the town!  Or come here after you've hit the town... kitchen's open til 4am.

While waiting out front for friends to meet us at the Little Branch, we struck up a conversation with their doorman, who has a raspy voice reminiscent of Ray Charles and an interesting sense of humor...

The doorman suggested that we come to Daddy-O (which apparently may be owned by the same owners as Lil Branch) for some Tater Tots and all around good bar food.

So after leaving Little Branch, with a strong yearning for late night munchies, we ventured across the street and around the corner to a wonderful little sports-like bar called 'Daddy-O.'

ordered the Moroccan Chicken Sandwich and some tater tots to complement it.   just what my tummy needed!

cute lil neighborhood bar that I would definitely go back to again ~

the great thing about visiting new york city is that you never need to go far to find a decent bar or pub. this is one of those reliable neighborhood pubs where you can meet your friends for drinks post-work, meet up with friends/family pre-dinner or meet up with a fella/gal for a casual date.

our group of 12-15 of mostly ladies-in-waiting met here before our big dinner with the bride-to-be at blue ribbon bakery around the corner.

good selection of beers, and kind of obtuse wine list, but very nice dark wood and warm lighting. the bartenders were pretty good for our big group and the snack plates/appetizers are enormous.

Daddy-O is a strange combination - part sports bar, part upscale cocktail lounge. The atmosphere can be intolerable when a big game is on, so make sure you time your visit accordingly (unless sports bars are your bag). But the cocktails are divine - seriously, they're among the best in the city, especially for the prices. That's not to say they're cheap, but you get the quality of a Campbell Apartment or Temple Bar for like $2-3 less per drink. Also, the bar staff is great - very knowledgeable and serious about the drinks they pour. If you don't know what you want, just tell them and they'll ask you a few questions and then make you some delicious drink that you didn't know existed.

As for the food, the tater tots are fantastic and pretty much the perfect bar food; the rest of it ranges from pretty good to forgettable. So in sum, if you're a sports fan who happens to like upscale bourbon and tater tots, this is the perfect bar for you. Everyone else - go for the drinks when there's no game on.

stumbled upon this place (as so many others are found)  Its a bit expensive but the bartenders are awesome here.  I saw their massive bar selection and asked out of sheer speculation if they had my favorite bourbon Van Winkle's.  They did!  It was on the very top shelf and it cost me 22 bucks but it sure was tasty. I'll never get it again but...it was cool they had it there.  So I got a manhatten and my friend got a old fashioned(thank you Mad Men)  I watched the bartender grind up fresh oranges for mixing.  These guys know what to do. your in good hands. Theres not a lot of TVs!  I hate bars with too many TV's.  And the music isn't to loud.

I came here for my roomie's friend's b-day gathering. This place looks like a dive bar from the outside, but once you get inside, you realize it's not so bad. It's actually sort of clean. Not crowded. Alternative/rock music. The girl to guy ratio in there was about 80 to 20 on the night I went (I suppose it differs every night). We were lucky enough to get seats as three girls left the bar area. The bartender was pretty nice and didn't make the drinks too strong. The best drinks are the ones where I can't taste the alcohol. I normally get the vodka tonics, but I guess he didn't understand my roomie when she said vodka tonic. He gave us vodka sours, which were really good but made me feel guilty about all that sugar I was consuming. Anyway, it was a pleasant experience.
The food looked really good too. I so wanted that salad the woman next to me was eating, but my girls dragged me away to the next place we were supposed to visit.

Love this bar for its' laid back feel, it's use of fresh juices in the margaritas and the friendly faces. Not to mention the tater tots! Unreal, especially for someone who hated them as a kid.

I would absolutely recommend the shrimp tacos- appropriately garlicky, and in fresh flour tortillas, with a nice side of guacamole. And, at around $11, who's to complain?!

The moroccan chicken sandwich has also received rave reviews.

Brunch always has an impressive menu as well. GIve it a shot!

After my move out of the neighborhood I haven't really properly mourned the loss of my favorite late-night, early-morning, doing nothing in the afternoon all-around go to bar.
Basically, this place opened up about a month before I moved into my last apartment, and was a constant source of much-needed comfort, be it gastronomical or alcoholic.
Phil, the owner, is one of the best guys around, along with his eccentric and sometimes surly staff.
The drinks are great, not too strong, plenty of flavor and never dominated by any one component.  Balanced and fair, to borrow a phrase from the evil news empire.
And the food, which is served til the bitter end, is fantastic.  Still my favorite burger in the city (and yes, I've had every one out there; the Bistro, PJ, Shack, Smoke, Five Guys, Kenn's, Junior's, BLT, etc) and the other items, on menu and off, are equally impressive (if not always equally-preferrable)
Definately need to start heading back there now that the summer free time is starting to pick up.

Daddy-O is a gem -- it's one of my favorite post-work watering holes.  The vibe is laid back yet sleek, and it feels just as appropriate to have a glass of wine as a beer.  I've never tried the food, but I've heard good things about the burgers.  I've come here with every size party from two to twenty, and the staff is always accommodating.  It's a great spot!

I ended up at Daddy-O's totally by chance last night (the other place my friend had suggested turned out to be closed), and it exceeded  expectations. The beer list is amazing, but unlike many beer-focused places they also have a great cocktail list, quite a tasty prosecco and a number of wines by the glass. We hadn't planned on eating, but ended up splitting chicken fingers and chips w/ guac and salsa. The guac and salsa weren't the best I've ever had, but were perfectly passable (and the chips were fresh! sorry, pet peeve - too many places these days serve day-old, slightly stale chips); the chicken fingers were juicy, crispy, and not at all greasy - definitely worth it! (Though having read the reviews I now feel I have to go back for the burger!) Service was attentive but not overbearing, and the space is small and a bit dark, but nice. All in all, a great spot!
