This simply is the best BBQ in Atlanta. I feel like I don't even need to write a review.

The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a wicked bbq joint. Essentially it looks like a shack from the outside, and super relaxed casual vibe. The service was great and so was the food as usual. The meat is nice and moist and I love the sauce. You might want to ask for it on the side because you never know how much they are going to add.

The server was extra awesome and when we couldnt decide between sides she just brought us both!

I highly recommend this place for some great food.

after years of hearing and reading the hype surrounding daddy d'z, i finally tried it last weekend.  i was expecting great things, and walked away completely satisfied.  definitely some of the best bbq i've ever had, and the best i've tried in atlanta proper.

tried the pulled pork, ribs, potato salad, fried okra, brunswick stew and mac & cheese.  portions are gigantic; one 'plate' is more than enough to feed 2 people.. or make 2 meals, if you choose to take some of it home.  the pork and the ribs were equally great; moist, smoky, with nice burnt ends.

my only complaint is that the pulled pork comes fully covered in sauce.  though their sauce is delicious, i always like to be able to add my own as necessary, wanting the meat's flavors to stand out before the sauce's.  obviously this is easily remedied; i'll just ask for it on the side next time.  all sides i tried were fantastic, with the potato salad & stew as the highlights.  loved the atmosphere; reminded me of old bbq joints in mississippi i've been to over the years.

Went in today for lunch and it was DELICIOUS!!!!

I've been searching for great ribs in Atlanta and this place is in my top two.  The place looks a little run down on the outside, you walk in and there's a mix of cement and wood, mismatched dining tables/chairs, styrafoam cups and plates, and all the other things that you can think of to make a BBQ joint look official!

Now on to the food, I love seeing pictures of people's actual meals....but as soon as I opened the box, the delcious smoky  smell of the ribs, and sweet smell of the candied yams got the best of me and next thing I knew there was a rib in my mouth :)
The ribs had a nice smoke ring, very tender, but not so much that as soon as you pick them up the meat falls off.  Perfect balance of tender and a slight cling to the bone.  I prefer my yams sliced and candied, not so mashed, but these were good.  I also had the collard greens, which had just enough spice to keep me from asking if anyone had pepper sauce.  The cornbread was okay, nothing to rave about.

This place is kinda pricy for BBQ, especially since it's not an especially nice establishment, but the food is so great you won't think about that part too much. Oh yea, the sweet tea was also pretty sweet, but not syrupy.  Really tasty! I'll definitely be back!

Hole in the wall, diamond inside. Love this place. It's has a local old school dive atmosphere. You know when you walk inside that this place is true southern BBQ. The food here is first class, and hopefully they will be here forever.

One of my favorite things about this place is the outside. It has a pig and a makeshift looking sign. That alone made me want to come here.

Everything about this place screamed hole in the wall. The patio had flies everywhere and the place looked small. I actually liked how everything looked. It made me feel like I was in a good, old fashion Southern BBQ Joynt. So besides the decor and atmosphere, how was the food?

Their food definitely won't win any awards for plating. Keeping the theme of their decor, they looked like they just slopped on some food on a plate. I got the pulled pork plate, and I thought it tasted good. The pork was juicy and had a nice smokey taste.

I thought the sides were all decent. They had good flavor and cooked well. I liked the corn bread also. Their sweet tea is quite sweet.

The service seemed slow. I don't know if it was the day we went or if it's just their style. If you're in a hurry, I would head elsewhere. At least everyone was friendly. Overall, I thought it was a decent BBQ place.

Oh.. What to say about a spot like Daddy D'z? Calling it a hole in the wall would be pretty accurate. I first visited Daddy D'z right after I moved down to Atlanta. My brother provided sketchy details at best. I remember it being a hot summer night when we arrived. The exterior is pretty dilapidated, but I never judge a book by its cover.....unless it's an actual book that is.

Since this was about to be my first BBQ experience in the A. We went for broke and got everything that was available. I remember the ribs as being quite salty although very flavorful and cooked just right. My personal measuring stick for BBQ joints are usually the brisket. I don't remember having a foodgasm or anything, but the brisket was solid. Actually, nothing about Daddy D'z was bad... it just wasn't mind blowing.

The only sub-par item I had was their cornbread. It was so dense and heavy. I tried to soak up some bbq sauce with it, but it was like a brick. After a couple of bites it filled me up. the ride home was a bit uncomfortable because it felt like a rock sitting in my gut. Kidding aside, solid BBQ just avoid the corn bread.

Oh yeah!  Did someone say Daddy Dz?  Let's go!

Daddy Dz may not look like much from the outside but it is what is on the inside that counts.  Their bbq is phenominal and the portions are huge while the prices are not.  When you first pull up to Daddy Dz you may find yourself wondering "Am I in the right place? This is it?"  Yes, you are in the right place and yes, this is it.  Don't be put off by the shack look of the place. It is totally worth going inside.  I praise their bbq plate with their 'hot' bbq sauce (not too hot for those of you who don't like to burn off your tongue), green beans and mac and cheese.  Oh!  I can't forget the cornbread.  Must have cornbread!  The plate is offered with Texas toast or cornbread.  You can also opt to just get the sandwich but I never do because I want that big ol' plate of food in front of me.  Oink.

My first visit to Daddy D'z was about 10 years ago, when I was a lowly freshman at Tech.  One of my friends, who had a car, drove a group of us down to Memorial for our first Daddy D'z experience.  It was sort of eye-opening since I was still new to Atlanta then.  I never returned until recently and the food is about the same as I remembered it -- good, but not incredibly memorable.

Daddy D'z is located in a big shack at the corner of Memorial, Hill, and MLK.  There are several parking spots outside, though maneuvering can get tricky since there isn't a whole lot of room to pull in and back out.  As far as I can tell, this restaurant is not air conditioned.  There are several tables and booths inside.  You can combine the tables for large groups.

Daddy D'z serves typical Southern BBQ fare from ribs to wings to beef brisket and pulled pork.  I went with a large group and sampled many items.  Here's the rundown:

    Meats:
    Pork ribs
    Smoked turkey
    Beef brisket
    Pulled pork
    Que wraps

    Sides:
    Baked beans
    Mac and cheese
    Collard greens
    Candied yams
    Brunswick stew
    Fried okra

    Bread:
    Cornbread
    Texas toast

All of the meats are served with your choice of either regular or hot BBQ sauce (sweet, tomato-based).  The smoked turkey was a recommendation of our server.  This turned out to be good advice as the turkey was tasty and had a strong smoky flavor.

Generally, the meats were a little dry.  This applied especially to the pork ribs and beef brisket.  They were still OK, though.  The pulled pork was hand-pulled in thick chunks.  The "que wraps" are small, bite-sized, fried BBQ pork wraps.  While the description sounds good, but I wasn't a big fan of them as the insides were too dry.

The sides were solid.  You really can't go wrong with any of their selections.  I piled the Texas Pete Pepper Sauce onto my collards and inhaled them.  The Brunswick stew was strong and the fried okra was delightfully greasy and crispy.  The cornbread was moist and the Texas toast was well-buttered.

We went on a Saturday around 1pm and it took a while for our food to come out.  They were kind of busy.  Our server was very friendly and hospitable.  He took our orders while we waited for a large table to clear.

The food is good, bit over priced, but good. I enjoy the smoked turkey. The BBQ is good. They could ease up on the salt a bit, because the side dishes are salty. I've been several times and that is the only complaint I have. I choose the fried or sweet sides, because they're not as salty.

I'm usually not a fan of lots of sauce on my barbeque.  It usually drowns the taste of the meat.  But oh man... Daddy D'z sauce is delicious.  Get the "hot" sauce because it's not spicy at all. I went on a Wednesday for lunch and it didn't get packed, plenty of parking and tables. I ordered the brisket lunch special which was fantastic. Potato salad and fried zucchini sides were great as well.  The cornbread takes the cake though... so moist and dense.  Minus one point because the price seemed a little high, but I'd definitely go back, if only to sip that sauce through a straw.

Daddy D'z is such an awesome place.  The live music is fun and the whole ambiance just makes it all the better.  Don't eat pork or beef, so I always get the 1/4 chicken with the spicy sauce and it's great.  The sides, though, are the best part.  But make sure you ask if the mac n cheese is good that day--it'll vary and the waiter will let you know!

I was there when the big tornado went straight through Atlanta and it literally touched down down the street.  The electricity went out and we just thought it was a big storm.  No one realized it was a tornado until later.  I'm glad it didn't hit us directly though because the place is a big tin shack.  But again, gives to the ambiance and at least there's some memories along with good food.

This place ain't pretty, but it sho' is good! So the food I give 4 stars, but our server was great and really made it a 5 star place for me. Three out of four of us had the sampler, because all the food smelled so good. It was a ton of food and we all rolled out of there. The ribs had a ton of meat on them. So, wear some plastic jump suits and a big, because the food is messy.  The hot sauce BBQ sauce is not hot at all and has more flavor, so get it.

So I was craving BBQ last night after watching too much Food Network.  After some googling, we decided to give Daddy D'z a try.  It was right down the street and almost every review I read was positive, so it seemed like a great idea.

I'm sooo glad I tried this place.  I'd kind of a BBQ snob (to this day, nothing beats my hometown BBQ place), but Daddy D'z delivered.  I had the brisket and the GF had the pulled chicken.  Both were deliciously moist.   What's great about this place is that the sides are just as yummy as the meats.  She had the baked beans and mac & chz.  I had the broccoli and chz casserole and the candied yams.  Sooo, sooo good.  I'll definitely be going back here!

Another note - we decided to do  takeout.  When I got there to pick up the food, the interior was, um, a little less than fantastic.  I'm kinda glad that I decided to take the food home because I feel like my opinion of the food may have been negatively impacted by the environment.  But maybe that's just me.

My recent BBQ love jones took me to a place I pass all the time.  1 more time wouldnt have hurt to be honest - at least thats how my wallet feels.

There are a couple of pluses, or NOT BADs shall I say.  I liked the sauce, the mac and cheese was more my style (not too creamy but strong sharp cheddar taste, and the cornbread could get some love, but I came for ribs

Im going to have a problem with any place that wants to hit you for 11+ for rib tips.  I know times are hard in the restaurant game.....but thats just it....times are hard PERIOD son...........there are too many BBQ players around to be trying to fleece the customer with ribs tips and 4 bone sandwiches, that arent terribly meaty to begin with.  The meat is decently smoked.....again, the meat flavor wasnt spectacular...closer to adequate.

Some may remind that Fat Matts and Fox Brothers are probably pricier...ok....thats just it...this aint Fat Matts or Fox Brothers..........until you get in that same league of quality, then give up some value, or I would rather try a new spot, or even go over to Maddys in Decatur and listen to live blues in the same price range.

This is my favorite BBQ place in Atlanta - and I've gotten my father (from Columbus, GA) hooked on it as well.  The pulled pork is so tender and juicy and the mild sauce is tangy and fantastic.  Also, the Brunswick stew is delicious - plenty of meat and veggies and I always get it with their sweet cornbread for an almost perfect sweet/hot combination.  Come with an appetite!  My dad and I normally split a pulled prok sandwich and each get a cup of Brunswick stew and cornbread - top it off with a bottomless glass of sweet tea and it definitely hits the spot!

Making the road trip from Miami to Colorado you drive right through the heart of the South. When looking for a good meal, it only seems appropriate to have some BBQ. With one look at this shack I knew that we made a good choice.

We walked in and with only one other booth occupied, had our pick at the place. We split the sampler plate and it was more than enough food for me and my hungry father. It came with the sinful que wraps, ribs, pork and brisket. We chose the collard greens as our side along with cornbread. My favorite parts were the que wraps, tender pulled pork and greens. I found the ribs and cornbread to be a little dry but I'm sure this varies based on what day you stop in.

Service was quick and friendly. We both left stuffed to the brim and ready to continue on our tour of the South.

Don't be scared, go on in.  You will be glad you did!

This place is one of the better places for BBQ in the Dirty A.  I've been to Fox Bros., Fat Matt's, etc.  and this place contends with any of those.

They have your typical fare...ribs, chicken, pork, stew, etc.  And they have some unique items such as the Q wraps which look like egg rolls with pork in 'em...damn good.

They have 2 sauces; regular and spicy.  Don't worry, you can handle the spicy and it's damn good.

And the sweet tea is out of this world! Oh lawd, I can taste it now!

Last time we went, the service was really bad.  They were way understaffed and our waiter didn't give a damn if the food made it before your drinks (which it did).  It was labor day weekend so I understand it's busy but staff accordingly.

That's the only knock in my book.  Oh, and the lack of AC in the front.  More of an old-school porch area.  They had a swamp fan in the front to keep the air moving and it was loud as hell.  Small prices to pay for yums!

Came here on a recommendation. The place is out of the way and the exterior appearance is a bit worn and rough looking. However I refused to judge the place by its cover. We split the sampler platter with Mac n cheese and potato wedges. The sides were excellent and the ribs were fall off the bone delicious. I also enjoyed the brisket perfectly cooked but found the the pulled pork lacking in flavor. Also the fried wing bits were overly doughy and not that good. Overall it was good but I've had better.

Delicious BBQ experience and oh what an experience it was. Not a place I would bring mom and dad to, but a great place if you're hungry and with a group of friends. I had the pulled pork and as sides, the stew and something else I can't remember. Don't worry tho, I sampled most of the sides they have from different friends plates and gotta say they were all very good, esp. The collared greens, and other dishes.

The prices felt a bit high, and the wait was pretty long.  I wasn't bothered much by it though since we had good conversation to fill in the wait time. But I'm pretty sure if you go with people who don't talk much, you'll be filling a bit bothered by the wait.

I recommend trying this place out!

Taking my parents here was probably the best decision I ever made.  This is some of the best bbq I've had and I've been to shacks in the middle of the NC woods.  (That sounds wrong...)

I love this place.  The beer is a bit pricey for a shack, but I couldn't say no because 1. my parents were paying and 2. beer and bbq go together like Thelma and Louise.

I want to go back.  I want to go back right now.  I want to live there.

The Daddy D'z building oozes with character, and the service is always nice. But the food doesn't deliver. Both the pulled pork and brisket I've had were a little dry, and the hot sauce doesn't register any flames on my palate's spice scale. Any wimp could handle it.

And while the side options are plentiful, none of them taste different from what I'd get at Piccadilly or a school cafeteria. The collard greens and mac 'n' cheese won't make you slap your momma, but you shouldn't go around slapping your mother in the first place anyway.

Loved it.  Looks like a shed from the road (because it is).  Ambiance was amazing.  Nothing like an old school 90's big screen television blasting the Braves game.  This place oozes character.

The ribs were meaty and amazing.  I told the waitress I was from Alabama and that I expected the best.  She laughed and brought me four of the biggest ribs I have ever seen.  They were so big I had to take one of the ribs home.

I got collard greens and mac & cheese as a side.  Excellent.  She actually suggested the macaroni.  Everything was piping hot.

We had the Daddy D'z Famous Que Wraps - BBQ pork wrapped in bite sized dough fried crisp and golden!  BBQ and fried dough.  How do you go wrong?

It is going to be more expensive then you expect, but definitely feel like the quality of food and experience are worth it.

I have been steered into a hole-in-the-wall once again, and I am extremely happy that I decided to take a chance on BBQ in Atlanta, a city known for some awesome eateries. Being from Texas, I often feel skeptical about eating anything noteworthy that is not cattle or simply dry-rubbed. The location is definitely one of those local dives that keeps its character, even though it is famous. It is on the outskirts of town in a scummy neighborhood. The decor is even grimey and authentically gaudy.

The sauce was disappointing, as I expected: too tangy, and there was a touch too much. You can customize the amount of sauce, but I figured I would let them take care of me.

Now, the meat was as tender as I have found outside of Texas brisket and Southern pulled pork. I guess as a big city, Atlanta can really spit out some solid cue.

The famous rib tips were awesome. They were more like juicy hunks of pork shoulder that ripped into thick strands. The beef and pork were both shredded much like pulled pork, so it was fun guessing which one I was eating, as both were shoved into a pile on my sampler plate. The ribs were great; barky and tender. The brunswick stew was ok.

The cue wraps, which are their famous "fusion appetizer", were fairly disappointing, as the pork inside was dry and unflavorful. Also, the eggroll wrapper was a bit too thick. Disregard this, as the other meats are awesome. Great cornbread, to boot.

One negative beside the cue wraps and the sauce was the pricing. For a sampler plate, brunswick stew, and a few rib tips, the lunch came out to $34, without drinks. Oh well, when in Hotlanta... Definitely check this joint out. The grub is good, and the service is awesome.

    Dear Yelp,

I'm sorry. I did not research this place out prior to coming here. I did not notice that it was #1 in the Best of Yelp. I did not bookmark it for months ahead of time before I decided to eat here. I know.. sigh.. I've failed you.

Luckily for me, I have awesome friends that know their away around culinary Atlanta, and one of them took me here. Thank god for him.

Despite being in the MLK, around not so nice neighborhoods, I still would never pass the opportunity to come here. The second I walked in and saw brightly colored walls in yellow, red, blue and tons of paintings, posters and nick-knacks, I knew I would love it. You can tell its a family restaurant, with every once of love put on those walls.

And the food is also family-portioned (if you come from a family that serves you an overflow of food and leaves you in a food coma). I got the beef brisket plate with mac and cheese, broccoli souffle and cornbread. My friend got the pulled pork with fried zucchini, green beans and cornbread. Some water and sweet tea and we were good to go.

I know people go crazy over the mac and cheese, but really, the fried zucchini is absolutely delicious, way tastier than I expected it to be. The cheesy broccoli souffle was piping hot and great - I'd like to say that it was healthy cause there was broccoli in it, but that's seriously debatable. Both the pork and the brisket were smoky and tender, completely drowning in a thick molasses-based BBQ sauce, so much so, that it was spilling over the sides, cornbread and over the plate.

Once again, I talk a tough game and challenge my friend to finish his food. He doesn't, but I do. I think i'm so bad-ass until I go home and hit a massive food-coma. My advice, enjoy the food, but if you take half of it to-go and enjoy it again later, you'll be way happier than I was after my food coma. Its ok, I won't judge you. Maaaaybe.

If you're looking for a dive BBQ restaurant...Daddy D'z BBQ Joynt is the place! Besides the atmosphere and the smokey smell of the grill in the dining room...the food is great. We're talking down home southern BBQ served with a smile.

I highly recommend their ribs. Just like they are advertised...best spare ribs in town, tender and flavorful. I also give their sandwiches two thumbs up (brisket, pork, turkey). They also have a crazy amount of sides to pick from (Green Beans, Corn on the Cob, Potato Wedges, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Candied Yams, Fried Zucchini, Collard Greens, Macaroni and Cheese, Red Beans and Rice, Collard Greens, Fried Okra, Broccoli Casserole, Black Eyed Peas)...I appreciate variety.

Overall...one of Atlanta's BBQ gems. Check them out!

Ive came and tried all meats and the best thing here is the Pulled pork sandwich very tasty. I was not fan of the rib tips way too fatty and full of bbq. I know that saounds delicious but it really is not.

Pretty smoky inside, but in a good way.

The service is pretty erratic. There no one person assigned to your table, so you end up ordering stuff or asking for things once, twice, sometimes three times.

They take a while to serve the food, given 80% should be already done before you get there anyway. However, the portions are huge. Pretty good amount of meat and two 6oz sides is A LOT of food. However, you will pay for it. Plates are easily $15 each.

After reading Yelp reviews for this place, and noticing that it's like 0.8 miles from my office, I decided to give it a whirl. (Okay, truthfully, it was also prompted by the fact that I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch at Six Feet Under -- only neither of us could find parking anywhere within three blocks of the place, so the lightbulb came on and Daddy D's became our new final destination.)

The place is definitely a touch on the sketchy side from the outside. But come on, the best BBQ places in the world look like crap, right?! We went in and noticed they had covered outdoor seating. Since it was 95 degrees out, that was an easy "hell to the no." Inside, it was about 3 degrees cooler than outside, but even 3 degrees counts in Atlanta.

Seat yourself. We had about 3 servers come ask us if we were ready (they probably all pool tips, either way it was nice that they were attentive). When you're done, don't even wait for a bill just walk to the cash register to pay. They were cool about splitting our bill for us.

After debating back and forth, we decided to share the big BBQ platter -- beef, pulled pork, ribs, those little fried riblet things, cornbread and your choice of a side (is anything BUT mac'n'cheese even an option?). Everything was good -- but I will say the ribs were pretty dry (kinda reminiscent of what happens to meat under a heat lamp). So that was disappointing. The beef brisket, however, was to DIE for and totally made up for it. The mac'n'cheese was very good. Cornbread was also absolutely delicious (they pile on some sort of amazing creamed corn concoction on top, which keeps the whole thing moist and takes cornbread to a whole new level). I ordered the Brunswick stew just to try it out, and wasn't a fan. But for a major bonus, it came with cornbread!

The menu was a bit overpriced, but then again, it is also a restaurant in downtown Atlanta near the Capitol. Kinda understandable. If I go back, which I very likely will, I will definitely be eating more of that delectable cornbread, and also getting myself a full order of beef brisket.

I stopped by here about a week ago and it was pretty good. The service wasn't spectacular, the waitress acted like she was doing me a favor by waiting on me but that's ok, the quality of her service was reflected in the tip I gave her.... approximately ummm....ZERO,LOL.

Anyways, on to the ribs, which was the actual reason that I went there. The ribs were good although a couple were a little tough but that was because of the rub they were using. On the inside the meat was good although the half rack that I got weren't exactly what I would call "meaty". The rub had a good flavor too it, it had what I call a "savory" flavor although it wasn't spicy at all, I liked it. The sauce was pretty good. It was a brown sugar based sauce and tasted a lot like Sweet baby Ray's BBQ sauce in my opinion (not a bad thing since I like that sauce,LOL).

For my sides I got black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese along with some cornbread. All three were really good, especially the macaroni and cheese and the cornbread was probably some of the best that I have ever had in a restaurant. Overall, this is a good BBQ joint although you get more (and better quality) ribs at some other places in town.

OK this is about as authentic to the BBQ on South side of Atlanta as you can get.

    Delicious Ribs? Check!
    Amazing Mac and Cheese? Check!
A Bunch of Pig inspired shirts that you must own? Check!
Bums waiting for you outside? Check!
Greasy tables in a greasy environment? Check!
Bonus - Amazing mini taquito style wraps filled with tasty BBQ pork? Check!

Go there and don't expect fine or even nice dining. This place is a dive and some dives might honestly take exception to that. All that said...awesome BBQ!

I must say that I was expecting more....but that usually is the case when the accolades are many and the expectations are elevated.

First offt the location may drive folks away. Don't leave. Give it a try.

The place LOOKS like a rib and BBQ Joynt.
    So kudos for authenticity.

The inside was hot and muggy (I will blame that on Altanta being Atlanta).
No air conditioning so be prepared to sweat if you sit in the first room

I ordered a rib sandwich. 4 Bones. As this was only  $1 more than the 3 Bones option.
I could not finish the last rib.
So...unless you are ravished just go with the 3 Bones.
The "sandwich" is basically 2 toasted pieces of bread sliced....at the ready to mop up the sauce.

Had a sweet tea in a stryofoam cup. is there any other way to get sweet tea?

Now for the meat of this story. Pun intended.
The ribs were a 3 for me. Hence the rating above.
I enjoyed the parts of the rib that were moist and meaty and fatty. The parts that you roll around in your mouth..spitting out the fatty bony stuff and enjoying the meat part. Sopped up the sauce with the bread and enjoyed about half of it.
The other half not so tasty........as that is the tough non moist parts that are like chewing on shoe leather.

The price is not the best....$16 when all said and done.
Get the money while you can.

This is the first place that comes to my mind when getting some good southern food. The pork is always tender and good and the portions compared to the price is amaizing. I'm definetively a fan of the fried zucchini and okra!. I took my parents to this place and they love it. The service is also great. The only downsize of it is the presentation  of the place, but I will keep going!

The D must stand for Delicious, or Damn Good BBQ maybe, because that's exactly what it is.  Best BBQ I've had in a long time, maybe ever. The place is a cozy little shack, family owned and run. The staff are so sweet and more than happy to take care of you. Service was fast and you can tell all the food is made in house.

Some have said this place is in a bad part of town. As someone who lives in Atlanta, I don't personally consider this a bad part of town. In fact, its the best part of town to get good, local eats and I have lots of friends who live int he area. Plus, this joint happens to be a local police spot (four police eating there when I went), so don't worry about it.

I had the pulled pork with mac & cheese, fried okra, and corn bread. The BBQ sauce was awesome, sweet & homemade, and plenty of it. The mac & cheese was very yummy, very creamy and cheesy, and the fried okra- well, how the heck can you go wrong with fired okra? My only disappointment was the corn bread. It was greasy and not really sweet enough for my taste. I prefer mine on the drier said and super sweet, like a dessert. But it was still good and went great dipped in the bbq sauce.

I also had the homemade strawberry cake for dessert. They had chocolate cake, cookies, and brownies too choose from as well. It was a hard decision, but the strawberry cake was excellent- obviously not box cake and super moist.

I will definitely be back. This is by far the best BBQ I've found in Atlanta and a great local spot with tons of character.

Pulled pooooooork... That's what I can never avoid ordering here. It calls out, begging for love even when my eyes dare stray to other parts of the menu. They're always a little on the chintzy side when it comes to the amount of sauce included by default, but you can order more.

Getting what you want here is fairly easy - with the number of side dishes and custom combination plates that you can put together, you're guaranteed to create something edible. They do, however, put some odd restrictions on veggie plate pairings that never really made much sense to the vegetarians I went with (or me, for that matter). Daddy D'z collard greens certainly make the grade as "sufficiently Southern": only slightly bitter, salty, and cooked enough to avoid over-crunchiness but not to the point of falling apart. This place thus scores well as venue for a proper introduction to collards (Northerners, I'm looking at you).

The desserts unfortunately seem almost as though they were an afterthought, like something that grandma Mae happened to bake and bring over for her favorite employee to eat during breaks or something. All of the core ideas seemed sound and traditional (red velvet, chocolate, and a few other cake/cobbler varieties) but none had that "Atlanta summer"-type moistness you'd expect from a down-home baked good. Get a slice to share if you have some room, though.

I decided to check this place out after seeing it mentioned on Food Network.  I didn't get the rib tips as they were out of them. I had smoked chicken with potato salad and mac and cheese. The sides were great - just the hearty, creamy, filling stick to your ribs food you expect from a place like this. The turkey was average at best. No better than anything I've had at thanksgiving dinner. I had heard the BBQ sauce was good but I thought it was unremarkable. I've had better store bought stuff, not that it was bad.

Half star off for service. Had to wait approximately 45 minutes after finishing the meal before getting the check or any attention from the waitress at all.  Add to that the fact that this place is incredibly overpriced and you have yourself a disappointing BBQ shack.

I think I would give 3.5 stars if I could, but they definitely deserve the round up. All in all, I enjoyed the sides but was let down by the BBQ itself.

I was really excited to finally make it to Daddy D'z with my sister and a friend this weekend. The "ambience" is perfect for delicious bbq. We ended up having to sit on the porch, which was pretty hot but not unbearable. Our server was very nice and helpful but didn't notify us they were out of a few (key) items until we tried to order it. Come to think of it, I overheard another table try to order something else and be told it wasn't available, so apparently they run out of things sometimes! This, of course, is not a bad sign.

We started with orders of brunswick stew, which I've heard so much about. I've gotta say this really lived up to the hype - it's probably the best I can remember having. I definitely recommend! The mac and cheese was surprisingly good, with a distinct peppery-ness. Baked beans and broccoli casserole were average. Fried okra was also a standout - some of the most incredibly light and tender fried okra ever. I also recommend that!

Notice I haven't mentioned the meat yet? Not a good sign. I ordered pulled pork and was not satisfied by it. The meat was literally swimming in a pool of grease. Ew. They ask if you want it to come with hot or regular sauce on it - I ordered hot but it was not hot at all. They also use too much sauce, I think. Couldn't taste smoke, couldn't taste heat, and couldn't get past the oilyness of the stuff. Disappointing.

This place gets 4 stars for the ambience, the sides, and most of all the stew. I'll be back, but I'll probably get ribs to see how those are.
