Rumor has it that Da Silvano shares the same kitchen as Bar Pitti, the Italian restaurant next door, and it sure tastes similar. The menu however is far more extensive and I had a hard time picking out what to eat from the normal menu to the special additional menu. I asked our waiter, who's English was heavily accented to choose me something and he ended up selecting a pasta with peas and sausage in a cream sauce. It was decent, but I've had better.

I've read in other yelp reviews that the service was a bit obnoxious and I could definitely see where they are coming from, but this isn't a Mario Batali restaurant so the service isn't going to be Danny Meyer like. My friend I was with ordered a pasta dish with anchovies and when the waiter came around asking if anyone would like some fresh grated Parmesan, he said yes and the waiter replied no. In shock my friend asked why not and the waiter's response was that it would be too salty because of the fish in his dish. That was actually pretty humorous now that I think about it...

Low and behold, Yelp pulled through yet once again! We wanted great Italian food while visiting the big apple. The restaurant has a great ambiance and all the waitors are true Italians. I ordered the lobster gnocchi and a glass of sauvignon blanc. That is all I needed to call it a night! The gnocchi was cooked perfectly.. al dente! The lobster was cooked right and the sauce was a creamy tomato sauce that balanced the whole dish.
My girlfriend created her own dish of Spaghetti bolognese and a side of grilled shrimp. She loved her dish! My other girfriend got the linguine vongole (clam sauce) and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
If  I lived in Greenwich village,  I would frequent this place once a week.. heck, maybe twice a week!
Great food and ambiance!

Our concierge highly recommended this restaurant and secured a 9pm reservation for us since we wanted to eat somewhere in the village for my first pilgramage to NYC.

It was the embodiment of everything I imagined an NYC eatery to be.  It's small, but big and filled to the brim with loud New Yorkers and the smattering of celebrities that unlike in LA, in NY, everyone ignores them.

Our waiter, was fresh from Italy and didn't like that my husband, though Italian didn't speak it.

I got the spaghetti with shrimp and the hubby got the bolognese.  I knew from my living in Italy that Italians don't like to serve parm with seafood, so it took a lot of arm twisting to get my waiter to bring me cheese for my pasta.  I'm not a true Italian, I want the cheese damnit!!

He hmmm'd and hawwed and finally relented.  Who wants a whiney woman anyway who can cuss like a sailor in Italian (that's all i remember are the cuss words, go figure)

Overall, not a bad meal, but they don't hold a candle to Supper.

I ate at Da Silvano for lunch a few weeks ago, and it was pleasant. We arrived right around noon and it was empty (save for one or two patrons) and we were seated outside immediately, right next to a table reserved for mega-producer Brian Grazer (Mr. Silvano let us know that insider info himself). The food was quite good and the portions were decent, though it is a bit pricey. However, if you're willing to spend the extra money, it's pretty much a guarantee that you'll have some sort of celebrity to gawk at while you enjoy your meal.

This a 5+ start restaurant, Da Silvano stands above the rest. They offer an amazing menu of traditional Italian dishes all that pair well with a glass of wine from their hand-selected favorites. Everything I ate was prepared to perfection and tasted amazing. It's a small restaurant yet offers ample seating on the sidewalk (the place to sit) and great people watching. Excellent service. This is a must go if you're in NYC. Yes, I agree with others, it is a bit pricey but worth every penny.

Stopped in here for dinner since I had heard some good reviews.

I really like the atmosphere and small familial way of the place.  That said, I did feel like the waiter was a bit pushy with wanting us to order apps and a bottle of wine.  It was a last minute dinner on a Monday night, so that wasn't going to happen.

The food was good (I had the gnocchi) and it melted in my mouth and left me wanting more!  The portion was a bit on the small side but that was fine with me, since I didn't want to gorge myself feel really stuffed.  People mistake Italian for massive portions and stuffing your face.  It's a shame since I think that's what they will at Da Silvano.  It's good food and the portions are just fine IMHO.

I really wanted to love the chicken. When it arrived, i was literally salivating. Crispy, sliced roast chicken, with a buttery/garlicky sauce. Too bad the chicken was waaaaay overcooked. It was really a shame, because the flavors were really great.

We started off with the bruschetta, which was above average. Sweet tomatoes over thick peasant bread. The bread held up well to the olive oil/tomato mixture.

A pasta appetizer w/ a vodka-like sauce was the star of the show - rigatoni, cooked al dente, and the sauce was just top-notch. Great for soaking up with bread. We ordered the meatballs, which my friend said were faaantastic. The veal scallopini was 'melt-in-your-mouth', and real tasty. And the Branzino was also delicious, succulent, yum.

The service? A little condescending. You know the type - speak w/ an italian accent, and look down at you if you can't properly pronounce the names of the dishes. Little patience for suggestions. Whatever.

Great rustic table, nice ambiance, i'd try it again.

Yay for outdoor restaurants in the spring :)

My friends and I wanted to go to Bar Pitti, but it was packed, so we came over here and got a table pretty easily.  The service is friendly and efficient.  The bread/breadsticks and olive oil tide you over while you peruse the menu.  We enjoyed some Peroni's while waiting for our food.  I got the bolognese and really enjoyed my dish.  One of my friends got the tortellini and my other friend got the deviled game hen, which apparently was not that good - she said it was dry.

Overall, it was a good meal.  Maybe stay away from the chicken.

I came here last October after visiting NY again...finally. So excited to get my favorite dish.

We had reservations for a table but decided to have dinner at the bar because the bartender, she was from California, was quite charming and just made our visit here so much more inviting. Our friends finally showed up and we sat there, drank, ordered dinner and had an amazing time. When my osso buco showed up I wasn't as hungry (my mistake for having too much "fun") but still had to try my fave dish.

Unfortunately my dish was overly salted. I thought...well maybe bc I had a bit too much to drink...nope, had my friends try it too and they agreed. Their dishes were tasting pretty mediocre. The only saving grace was the boy's dish which was HIS fave- the grilled veal.

I was sad to realize this but didn't give a crap mainly because I was having too much fun at the bar. Luckily this made up for the bad food. I will come back...mark my words!

I think that da silvano is the BEST reason to go to this resto. He is full of style and enthusiasm, has great kicks and dammit, people like him.

The food is good and the atmosphere completely transports one to Italy and that's a good thing in my opinion.  The problem is the star fucking that goes on. I'm not criticizing it. I totally get it. It's good for business-no need to explain. But when you're a "regular" person who has a resy you have to wait like, over an hour for your table it sucks.

We almost left about 10 times, but stayed because Da Silvano kept coming to check on us. That was kind since Rihanna  (post Chris B. incident) was in the house and the place was all in a tizzy.

I enjoyed the meal because of my company and the music and the food was good, but I have to say I still enjoy I Sodi more.

The story of how I saw John Cougar Mellencamp eating a plate of veal marsala with his wife.

Thursday night in the summer.  THE night to go out.  People are still in the city, unlike Friday night through the weekend.

As we arrive an entourage is leaving - paparazzi seem to be following an emaciated girl who looks like the black Amy Winehouse (?!).

Anyhoo, we have a reservation for six, they keep saying a table is ready, only to give it away right in front of us to this or that trendier group.  Regulars, I suppose.

Whatevs, the night is young.

We continue to stand out front in the middle of all the comings and goings.  We watch the driver of a large Rolls try to parallel park in front, after his passengers disembarked into the restaurant.  Someone else vaguely famous and their entourage, no doubt.

More waiting, and watching.  Various maitres 'd tell us conflicting things about our table.  It's all very animated.

In the end, it turns out to have been worth the wait...we get a big table immediately inside the door, opposite (wait for it) John Cougar Mellencamp's table. (!!?)

He catches me staring at him.  I want to tell him I bought his first album, back when he was John Cougar and I was 12 years old.  But I don't.  He looks pretty good,  kind of like Johnny Cash and slightly out of place.  Can't tell who he's with.  Couple of tall, thin blonds in summer attire (dime a dozen in this place actually - actually one was probably his wife).

The food and service were great.  The do have a policy of not taking more than two credit cards for payment -- something to note if you are in a group.

The food was not good and the portions were small but at least it was expensive. The highlight: they ran out of calamari and served us instead a plate of fried globs of bread crumbs commingled with a few squid scraps. The waiter seemed embarrassed when we sent it back and comped our drinks, earning the single star.

I heard this place used to be La Lohan's favorite restaurant, so I was excited to go here on a business lunch. We sat out front because it was a nice day. The other people eating there were kind of interesting to look at: a group of trendy, rich girls out for lunch and some European businessmen in pinstriped suits amongst others.

I started with the heirloom tomato salad which also had red onions, avocado and a little olive oil. This salad was delicious and fresh. It was a wonderful appetizer. For the entree I had thin noodles with a tomato cream sauce with sausage and peas. I've heard Da Silvano makes their own pasta, and it was truly amazing. Three out of the other four people I was with also had this same entree. We all ate every bite.

I would definitely recommend this place. The food is fresh and delicious!

Ate here with a group of 6 the other night.  The food was very good and the atmosphere comfortable.  I wish I would have tried some of the dishes mentioned in the other reviews.  I had a nice pasta with a sweet italian sausage and enjoyed it very much, but it seems some of the other dishes on the menu got a more enthusiastic review.

Service was outstanding and we did spot a couple of celebrities.  I would definitely go again.

My first night in NYC.  My first dining experience.  What I've been waiting for my entire adult foodie life.  It was late(r)...9:30ish.  We ask the clerk at the Dylan Hotel front desk if she can recommend a place.  "You MUST go to Da Silvano" she says...as if everyone goes there.  We take a taxi and are on our way.

Apparently, everyone does go there because at 10pm on a Saturday night, this place was packed.  It was warm out so we sat out front, cafe style.  Ahhh...NYC.  I order the gnocchi with lobster and a Peroni...and some ice water please.

The water tasted like it was in a dirty wine glass.  I don't know how to describe it...spiked water...but dirty (and NY is famous for its clean tasting tap).  The Peroni...warm.  The gnochhi...mushy...nothing worse than really, really mushy gnochhi...ummm...unless you top it with rubbery lobster...ummmm...and unless the waiter/restaurant refuses to put parmesan cheese on top of seafood.  (their policy).

My dinner companions seems to love their dishes, but me...not so much.  Looks like I've started to trip off on the wrong foot.  But, I feel hopeful...this is, after all NEW YORK!

What a nightmare.

This is one of those New York restaurants that think they are in the real estate rental business. Immediately after sitting down in a half-empty restaurant and informing them that we were probably just going to have drinks and appetizers, they told us that we would have to finish quickly unless we ordered dinner. Pushy and rude service continued, topped off by an annoying bait-and-switch routine for the meat and cheese plate (no that price we quoted was for EACH different cheese and meat ON the plate).

Bottom line: pushy, rude, all about revenue per table per hour (which they basically told us flat out when our pace was too leisurely.) AVOID!

This is the big brother of Bar Petti (same owners and just next door).

Wonderful service, relaxed and homey, and the food is pretty close to sublime:  fall off the bone osso bucco, delectable lobster and safron rissotto (1/2 the dish is lobster...salivating...) with a hint of heat from the sauteed jalapenos (still salivating).

You'll leave totally content despite the highish bill.

I'm sorry, I've never been one to complain about the expense of eating out, but for what we paid for dinner here, the combination of food and service was just not worth it.

My dish was okay - nothing spectacular (ravioli). The lobster gnocchi was actually pretty good, but I was turned off by the written prohibition (it's right there on the menu) against putting cheese on seafood dishes. I mean, come on....maybe it does 'ruin the flavor' of the food, but if a customer wants a sprinkling of parmesan, they are the one the server should appease, not the chef.

The service was what put me off the most. Perhaps we weren't dressed like the other clientele, but when I've dined at other higher rated, more expensive places, this was never a problem. In fact, I use it as a standard by which to judge service - to see if we will be treated graciously regardless of our footwear.

Anyway, go if you must, just keep your expectations real.  Bar Pitti was far better.

Go on and do it, I know you want to.  Some of you want to roll your eyes at me because I gave Da Silvano a 4-star rating.  C'mon, go for it.  Do what you want, but I love the place.

There are plenty of restaurants in Manhattan.  There are tons of Italian restaurants.  But let's face it, Manhattan's expensive so there's not a whole lot of griping when meals get to be pricey.  Da Silvano's no exception.  What keeps me going back is the food and the service.  Silvano Marchetto has usually been there while I've dined (lunch and dinner), and makes his way around the rooms - where you are or are not seated with Lindsey Lohan.  The bolognese sauce is perfect every time.

And if you wanna roll your eyes at prices, check out Nello.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Da Silvano.  Our waiter gave us great suggestions and was a bit of a jokester which was entertaining.  All of the waitstaff is Italian and the food authentic Tuscan style cuisine.  We shared the calamari and it was good, not great.  But the gnocci had a perfect hint of gorgonzola and it was fantastic.  Everyone was very happy with their pasta and fish dishes.

The highlight was sitting next to Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky...even though I don't like him, it added excitement to our touristy NYC experience.  There are a lot of complaints about the price, but I did not think it was bad for a nice dining experience in NYC.  However, I did not have to pay either!

I first started fantasizing about Da Silvano while scrupulously reading and soaking up the counsel professed in the mod-femme testament: The Berdorf Blondes. I found myself salivating the glam of it all, particularly the illustrious "round table."

The "round table," is for the fab-est of clientele (for example: a New York "champagne bubble about town" would never be able to get a res. for it should she find herself strewn by her high-profile photographer/Jude Law-esque fiance). It's LiLo's favorite eatery (not that she's much of a source of credibility currently, but when she's in NY, mostly all of her interviews are done there) and starlets such as Jamie-Lynn Siegler (people say I look like her, ::gush!::) make it a regular stop.

Despite all the names that frequent this place, it maintains a quiet, calm, rustic Italian charm that denotes any idea of pretentiousness. In fact, the waiters jest with each other in their native tongue and are named such anomalies as "Parmigiana." They are silly and fun, yet knowledgeable and professional.

When I visited, I was disappointed to find that my status as a Northeastern University student/sales associate at local boutique did not grant me a seat at "The Round Table," but was nonetheless quite pleased with my position and the energy of it all.

The table started with their antipasto plate, which came with an array of fresh meats and cheeses on butcher paper. It was probably the richest cold meat I have ever experienced, and the sharpest, highest-quality Parmesan. The fish I had for dinner was out of this world, and they really have the freshest, most innovative pasta dishes (including a $150 truffle pasta!).

Do go. I can't wait to go one day for lunch in over-sized sunglasses and bag and pretend I'm much more of a "champagne bubble about town" than I really am.

I love this place. it's right down the street from my apartment and they're always ready to seat me and my friends and feed us delicious Italian food. The waiters are sexy and ready to recommend something delicious and a fantastic wine pairing to go along with the meal. Sitting outdoors when it's warm is the best but the interior can also be great and cozy when it's cold outside.

The most important thing is that Da Silvano is a neighborhood restaurant in the Village tradition. I've read reviews from people coming and hoping to see a celebrity or two - which is fine but remember - it's a fabulous Italian place in the Village above all. That's why I go - that and for the amazing fried & stuffed squash blossoms.

Da Silvano. This place is not to be missed. This review is a little belated, since I ate here during the summer (perfection) but better late than never.

Sitting outside here in the warm weather is one of the most pleasurable things to do in this city. The people watching is unmatched, especially since Bar Pitti is right next door with equally delicious people sitting outside for your viewing pleasure.

What I like about Da Silvano is that it doesn't have that pretentious feel, even though it totally could. It's a mix between a hot spot and a village tradition, and leans more towards the latter in atmosphere. Silvano can almost always be seen standing outside greeting customers and laughing with the regulars - he's a sweet guy who really has made himself the face of this fabulous restaurant....love the logo with his face surrounded by stars.

As for the food, i'm no italian connoisseur, but i thought it was executed perfectly. The fresh mozzarella is moist and fresh and melts in your mouth, and they brought us some fresh parmesan that I still think about to this day. Everytime I see fresh parmesan I'm reminded of Da Silvano and can't wait to experience it again.

I had a special that day - the gnocchi with lobster and jalepenos. Whew, what a tastebud adventure!!

I can't wait for the warm weather to come back so we can all go watch sexy people eating yummy food. and, of course, be sexy while eating yummy food.  jackpot!

One of my ultimate faves in the City.  I love the 'under the radar' and lively vibe - not to mention the fun, smart ass waiters!  It is likely you'll see a celeb:  on one night here while dining outside Maura Tierney attempted to get a table and was turned away due to the restaurant being at capacity.

Dining outside is my fave - great people watching spot even though it can get pretty tight amid the close tables.

I was really excited to dine here especially after all the rave reviews and celebrity sightings you hear about in US Weekly!

I went with my future husband and his brother and gf who apparently LOVESSSSSS the place.  We definitely had a good meal.. I had a salad for starters and the jalepeno gnocchi which was really to die for... they were nice and light with an amazing sauce with lumps of crab mixed in.  My SO had the duck meatballs for starters (which were sorta dry and nowhere as good as Harold's (aka Perilla)) then he had the fettucine bolognese which he said was not the best he's had and he is a connesouer of bolognese.  Had a really good expensive $130 bottle of wine (we were celebrating our engagement) sadly I loved my gnocchi too much to recall what anyone else was eating or what we had for desert.

Lastly and sadly we did not see any celebrities but we loved the feel of the relaxed not pretentious hot spot.

What is up with the celebrities at this place? Why is this place always referenced in US Weekly? I just don't get it!!!

This place is so overly expensive for what you get. They even charged us for tap water. Not kidding. I am hoping that's a mistake.

We had a great pasta but the chicken dish (which was fried) was tasteless.

The food wasn't bad, but not worth the price. The place is loud, lively and actually quite fun and the service is good. But, I just think this place is highly overrated.

My Silvano experience was a good one: al fresco dining on a beautiful spring day. I had the Seabass special and it was tasty, but I doubt I'd pay the prices myself (I was here on a business lunch).  The lobster ravioli my coworker got looked delicious.

I'd say if you came here and got a pasta dish and sat outside on a pretty day, that it'd definitely be worth the visit.  Just make sure you make reservations.

Good italian food in a quaint atmosphere.  For the price I was hoping to be slightly more "wow-ed" by the food, but nonetheless it was good.  Service was friendly and the place had a nice ambiance.  The patio looked nice for the summer, unfortuately it was cold as shit when I went.  Brrr...

Dear Da Silvano:

Your food is good.  You're expensive - but it's great how you can split the entrees at lunch.  But your food doesn't blow me away like A La Lucia in Alexandria, VA does.

I do like you a lot because of the atmosphere.  It's hard to think of a better place to sit outside in NYC.  And you have a great location.

This is another that I wish there were 4-1/2 stars for, but I think in lieu of that I will have to defer to 4. This is my favorite little Italian spots in NYC, it's easy and less pretentious than most ;). I don't think I've had anything here that wasn't great. It's Tuscan-style, which is fairly light and full of fresh produce and not too saucy and regardless of when I visit NYC I find it's a perfect time to visit Da Silvano in the Village.
