For anyone who's not from Maui, this IS THE SPOT TO HIT UP FOR SOME EATS! I'm from Oahu and been to Da Kitchen there but it doesn't compare to what Maui has to offer. Besides their fried spam musubi and their loco moco, they have a ton of specials on their chalkboard that are SUPER delicious. They have a wide array of different "mocos" that you have to try, and on oahu they don't have that on the menu, so I just had to say YES!

I had Pele's Chili Moco which was SUPER delicious. I was a little disappointed because it wasn't what I expected. When you hear PELE, you think FIRE, and spicy, but it was kinda lacking in that department, but nothing a little (or a lot) of tobasco couldn't fix.

Service here is great, the people are genuine and friendly, which is a good representation of what Maui is all about. This place needs to have a sign that considers this place a Maui landmark!

This place was o-k, maybe I'm spoiled from all the good food on Oahu, but their ''traditional'' hawaiian type food wasn't that great to me.

The fried spam musubi was good, but it was just WAY too much rice.. I think it might've gotten me too full for my entree.

We ordered the Hawaiian Plate, which is more than enough for 2 people, and it came with chicken long, lau lau, kalua pork, lomi lomi, rice and mac. Everything was REALLY salty, and the lau lau meat wasn't tasty.  The kalua pork had a squishy texture and was too soggy.

My friends enjoyed some of their dishes, so maybe next time I will order their unique loco moco type plates.  I can definitely say that I've had much better traditional hawaiian food elsewhere.

Da Kitchen serves hawaiian style Moco.  I ordered the kanak attack moco which is  one of my top 5 most ridiculously portioned meals to include high quality food.  Basically it was a large bed of white rice, with marinated beef, chicken katsu (breaded sliced chicken breast), and teriyaki chicken all prepared to be very tasty however I favored the beef and katsu best.  Ontop of this are grilled onions, mushrooms, 2 over easy eggs, and a side bowl of gravy.  This meal was literally to die for.  If you are in Maui and want some great food I highly reccomend this restaurant, The prices are a bit high but what in hawaii is cheap? (you can download a pdf of their menu and prices at http://www.da-kitchen....).  The restaurant itself isnt all too nice, service is descent, however the placet is packed with locals and tourists willing to wait to get into the full to capacity house of delicious comfort food.  Warning if you try to finish this meal by yourself you will likely slip into a food coma so dont make plans for afterward.

If you are in the mood for some delicious hawaiian style food you wont be disappointed with Da Kitchen Cafe!

I'd say this is one of the best meals I've had in Maui. The Kalbi Ribs were awesome, and tasty and more than enough to share or take home. It was tough to choose just one dish for my meal as they all looked tasty.

They also have a good selection for kids, and this place is really kid friendly. While its strip mall location and tiny sign make it hard to find, it just makes it worth the search. Love it!

Only place in Maui where you can find deep fried Spam masubi. We came just for that! Didn't quite live up to its hype -too much rice, too little spam and seaweed. But it was good nonetheless. My husband and I shared the Locomoco with Katsu chicken. Hugely portioned and also huge in flavor. The mac salad was also good but we had to order it as a side and side portions are tiny. Bumm.

My husband loves going here. I don't mind it too much.

He says he really loves the food especially the portions cause then he can bring some home.
The food is good, but most of it I have to be in the mood for.

We do take a lot of people here so they must be doing something right, eh.

I personally love the music. It makes the atmosphere really relaxing and fun for me.

I arrived in Maui before the rest of my family and wanted to go eat where the locals eat. I opened up my trusty Yelp app on my phone and searched for a restaurant nearby. This place had 4 stars and several good reviews. Luckily it was right down the street from the airport so I just decided that I would give it a try.

It was 2 pm and the place was still packed full of patrons. That was a good sign that the food was good. Being in Hawaii, I wanted to try the Loco Moco at least once so I browsed the menu at their numerous variations on the local dish. I ordered the Katsu Moco which was the standard hamburger patty, fried egg, onions, mushrooms all smothered with brown gravy but instead of white rice they substituted it with their Hawaiian fried rice AND topped it with chicken katsu. Now those ingredients don't initially sound like they go together but any doubt that I had went away with the first bite. If I ever get a chance to visit Maui again, I will definitely make another stop here and try out everything else on their menu. Solid 4 stars but I can definitely see myself giving this place 5 stars after another visit.

    Yum!

Our party of 12 stopped by here for dinner on our way back to Kihei (after a day spent driving along the Hana Highway). After reading that the portions were huge, most of us decided to share. My sister and I shared the deep fried musubi and the loco moco lunch plate. The musubi was really good! I loved the panko breading and it definitely made the musubi a lot yummier. The loco moco was a little salty (to be fair we have low salt tolerance) but it was so good! And the huge piles of rice helped to tame the saltiness. The hamburger meat was tender and the eggs were cooked perfectly. I also got to taste the fish & chips. The mahi mahi was cooked really well (moist, tender, flaky) and the breading was amazing. We speculated that it was battered and then rolled around in panko; whatever it was, it was crispy and light and suited the fish really well.

The kalbi plates looked really good and a few people said the seasoning was really good (which is a huge compliment coming from Koreans).

The staff was really accommodating and patient (imagine catering to a party of 12) and the food came out so fast.

Humongous portions of good food.  The Katsu Loco Moto could feed a family.  I should have taken note when I saw everyone order their meals in the to-go box right at the table.  Protein packers rejoice.

Dad had the seafood pasta, seemed at odds with the rest of the Hawaiian/Asian menu, but it was just as good as all the other hearty dishes.  Found more locals here than anywhere else.

Da kitchen was one of the restaurants that we were most excited to try.  We love spam and we heard they had an amazing deep fried spam musubi.  While it was good, it wasn't as good as we had build it up to be. The problem we had with it was the spam to rice ratio.  The musubi had so much rice that breaking into a thin slice of spam didn't give us much flavor of that salty goodness. We both agreed that if they had double the slice of spam or maybe cut down on the rice, it would have been an outstanding dish.

We also ordered a Kailua pork dish and we thought it was too salty for our taste.  Even accompanied with the rice, it had helped but it was still too salty for us.

Our friend ordered a cheeseburger and it was pretty cool to watch the juice explode out of the burger when he took his first bite.  He enjoyed it but after seeing the lake of juice his dish had by the time he finished his burger it was easy to say it wasn't overlooked.

The restaurant was staffed very attractive femail waitress. Which was distracting for my bf and our friend. Hire some guys! :)

Good grab-n-go on the way out of Maui.

I had a bento box of a mix of meats plus rice.  My GF had an order of chicken katsu.  It was very good but we had to grab-n-go on the way to OGG.

Not many seats free in the place - looked very popular with locals.  It was about 2 in the afternoon on a Friday but looked like lunchhour peak.

About $25 total I think - and that included a bottle of Pepsi too.

I'd consider it on a return trip to Maui.

Note: parking lot a bit odd and tight with access from one side street and not the main drag.

One of my favorite meals in all of Maui! Da Kitchen serves basic Hawaiian plates (and then some) in huge portions!  We ordered the savory, juicy Kalbi Ribs and perfectly fried Chicken Katsu.  The ribs were so well marinated and the 5 pieces were just stacked all over your plate.  It was a lot but you know I love my ribs and I finished those babies up.  And as for the Katsu, there were 3 layers of katsu slices taking up half your plate.  It was massive; my husband had to take a portion of it to-go.  Of course, we also ordered the Fried Spam Musubi which was indeed very unique.  I just wish they used a bigger slab of spam so the rice wasn't too much.

Overall, it was such a delicious meal in a cool looking environment and to add, all the waitresses are hot.  I think that's a known thing because some of the girls were on the cover of a local magazine.  Next time I come, which I hope is soon, I can't to try out more items on the menu!

This place is fun!  The locals love it and every time my husband wore his Da Kitchen shirt a local was sure to comment.

I had the Hawaiian plate lunch and was able to experience many Hawaiian style dishes.  You can definitely share this, I did and there still was food to spare.  They also have spam dishes and lots of kinds of Moco.

My Dad loved his Kalua pork sandwich, it was his favorite in Maui.

If you are with people who aren't adventurous and don't want to try the local fare, they offer American style food too.

Our first stop on our way to Lahaina from the airport.  Our last stop on our way home, too!

Being a 'bad Hawai'ian' (according to my dad) I'm not a big meat or Hawai'ian food eater.  While those plates looked authentic and filling as they went by, I opted for the spicy tofu.  Right up my alley.  With a bit of tabasco (needed it, wasn't spicy enough for me!), brown rice and a salad on the side, it was the perfect filling lunch.  and ONO.  Just what I needed after a 5 1/2 hour flight.

10 days later, on our way back to the airport, I had a ginger chicken special--lightly deep fried chunks of chicken over rice.  Again, add hot sauce, and I was stuffed.

A great find that we'll continue to hit every time we're on the island.

Our first meal on Maui! After fasting for 6 hours because we were too cheap to spend $10 on a mediocre sandwich offered by the airline that flew us here, we immediately went on yelp looking for awesomeness.
The closest one to the airport with highest rating was Da Kitchen.
So, what's our take on their food?
The star of the show was definitely their fried spam musubi.
The Hawaiian plate was not impressive at all.
Although the experience was not bad, this could very well be our first and last visit.

    Issue:
It's no surprise that airlines been downsizing and cutting costs where they can to save money--switching to the 1-ply TP in their lavatories, charging $25 for 1st check-in baggage and the WORST--not offering complimentary warm meals for 3+ hour flights.

    Solution:
Just 1.5 miles away from the Kahului airport, Da Kitchen is the answer to every travelers' rumbling stomachs. You either dine in Da Kitchen BEFORE you head to the airport or you bump into the person who sat next to you on your flight to Maui AT the restaurant.

This place serves some hearty-size portions. Between a party of 4 (2 guys+2 girls) we shared:
+ Fried spam musubi, $5: A delicious log of  thick, sliced spam sandwiched between dense rice, entirely deep fried and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. This pupu is meant to be shared.
+ Hawaiian Plate, $16.50: Can't come to Da Kitchen and not try it's Hawaiian classic dishes! Pork Lau Lau, Kalua Pork, Chicken Long Rice and Lomi Salmon. Great sampler meal.
+ Misoyaki Butterfish, MP: Buttery and tender, this signature Japanese dish of Black Cod filet is baked in a Miso-glazed sake. It had great flavor.

It gets super packed and busy, so gotta be patient with the service. This place gets the job done: satisfies your hunger and delicious local food.
Make this a stop once you touchdown to Maui, during your time in Maui and before you head to catch your flight back home.

This place only gets four stars for one reason - their logistics in serving are completely screwed up! But I'll get back to that. Don't let that stop you from eating here, either! You'll miss out on major yum-yums! :-)

The food is five star, as are the portions. I had the Chicken Katsu, which was amazingly good, if simple. I think it would be even better with a sweet ginger sauce instead of barbeque sauce, but that's just me. My wife had a fish-of-the-day fish sandwich, which came with two giant fish patties on it. Wow!!! Also, the mac salad is to die for, and I could have eaten more!

Now, amazing food and portions aside, they need to get their servers better organized. They roved all over the restaurant and didn't seem to have someone managing flow at all. We didn't really even know who was helping whom, and they forgot a lot of things and had to keep going back to get them. This place could be easily broken into quadrants to which servers could be assigned. It would have a better flow and make this place five stars, hands down! That's all though, a very simple problem that can be fixed. Otherwise, it's a keeper!!! Yum!

OK I may have come in with a bias, we had just left Kihei where I had tried to order breakfast and waited 45 minutes and ended up with no food. I was starving and heading towards the airport and didn't want to end up eating Panda Express or something else I could get at home. Yelp to the rescue!

I ordered the kalua pork plate and was not disappointed. I *loved* their mac salad. It was extremely creamy and delicious and had chunks of creamy perfectly cooked potato in it, anyone who can properly cook a potato for a mayo based salad is good in my book. The pork was salty and porky and delicious, if I wanted anything changed I would just want a little more cabbage underneath. I ate half my plate and was stuffed.

I feel like if I lived in Hawaii and my grandma made me some kalua pork this is what I'd get. It's not fancy or gourmet or the best meal I've ever eaten but it was delicious and fast and hit the spot before the plane.

Huge portions, good food, affordable (for Maui standards) and great service!  I found this place on yelp after picking up my rental car. The restaurant is located at a strip mall, really close to the airport. First hour in Maui and I was hunting for some good Hawain food. This place was ranked as one of the top restaurants in Maui - so I had to try it!

First- service was fast and friendly. All the servers work as a team and work fast.

Second - HUGE PORTIONS. I'm from Dallas, the land of over sized plates where small is really a large. Same concept here! Being in Maui - we ordered the fried spam masubi, chicken katsu and moco loco. Oh My God - I never saw such a heaving plate of food. Honestly, you can probably split a plate in thirds. The moco loco was flavored perfectly, I finished a third and took the rest to go. The chicken katsu was friend well, didn't have a lot of flavor, but came with a dipping sauce. My husband only finished half and took the rest to go. The infamous fried spam masubi was big too! Totally worth ordering to try this travel channel dish.

Definitely check this place out, but remember split a place unless you are starviing!

What a find!  We read the Yelp! reviews and tried going upon arriving at the airport to the Kahului location on New Year's Day- ooops!  closed on Sundays.  So we drove to the Express location in Kihei (katsu was really good- kalbi was fine- loved the fried musubi!)

But, we couldn't get Da Kitchen out of our mind so we went back to Kahului for dinner the next night.  Boy, we are so glad we did.  The place is island friendly.  Service friendly and fantastic (especially given how busy they were).  A lot of locals and tourists sitting in their booths or at tables with plastic chairs.

My children loved the kalbi ribs (tasty).  Perfect for them.

For my husband and I, we had a CULINARY TASTE EXPLOSION!  Such wonderful tastes and textures.  Imagination in the kitchen is not lacking here.  We had the kalbi wonton appetizers (kalbi and ? fried in a wonton wrapper- what's not to like?) and the kalbi hand rolls (kalbi, daikon, carrots and some aioli wrapped in nori) -- so yummy!  And, the fried musubi again (what's not to like?  rice, spam and sea weed all coated and fried!-- ALL GOOD).

Then, we shared a fish tempura- light, flaky and really good.

We loved our experience so much that we went BACK to Da Kitchen in Kahului a few days later (had really good kalbi fried noodles and just-okay korean fried chicken- may just not have been their best dish)!  Yes, out of our 7 days in Maui, we had 3 meals at Da Kitchen-- it's DAT GOOD.  We live in Santa Monica-- good food is neither foreign nor unattainable to us.  We also have experienced some great fusion food all over the world.  But, here, at Da Kitchen, it's a down home feel with tasty food and reasonable (for the islands) prices ($70 for 2 adults and 2 children for dinner).

Now, as we're back on the mainland, all we can talk about is the beautiful island water, the splashing of the whales and... Da Kitchen!

Great local food. Loco moco is a must get! My favorite part was eating the rice soaked in gravy and egg yolk. The chicken katsu was delicious too. I'd say pass on the fried spam masubi and miso butterfish. Blah would be the words to describe these two dishes. Lastly if you are Korean, or like Korean food, I highly recommend a side of kimchi with your meal.

My first meal in Maui.  We got the Fried Spam Masubi and the Hawaiian Plate.  For 5 bucks that's an expensive spam masubi.  The best thing about this is that they drizzle their homemade teriyaki sauce that makes it super tasty and less dry.  The Hawaiian plate is a tradition Hawaiian luau served on a platter with Pork Lau Lau, Kalua pork, chicken long rice and lomi salmon.  I really liked the Kalua pork.  It tasted like lechon but soft and shredded.  The Chicken long rice was okay, I thought the ginger was overbearing.  The Lau Lau was also just ok.  I wasn't that fond of it. Our friends got the pot roast, that was good.  The lomi salmon was tasty, I like it.

Overall, legit spam masubi, good service and good food.

A local told us not to miss this place. No kidding. Huge menu. Huge list of daily specials, and HUGE portions of wonderfully prepared food including local Hawaiian and Korean favorites. Noodles are awesome and the spicy tofu was out of this world.

Consider sharing so that you can leave room for one of the marvelous desserts.(We shared still-warm-from-the-oven pineapple upside-down cake and a luscious banana cream pie.

This was the very first restaurant that my gf and I tried out after landing in Maui.  It's less than 5 minutes away from the airport and appears to have a steady stream of customers / short wait for people!

Had to try the deep fried spam musubi (4.95?), which was actually really large.  There was something about the deep fried part of it that didn't do it for me, but it was still tasty overall.

Shared the Notorious BIG loco moco ($16) because I was hungry, but wow. Those portions are HUGE and highly recommended to split between at LEAST two to three people. The notorious BIG loco moco I believe contains...chili, cheese, portuguese sausage, spam, hamburger patty, onions, egg, bacon.

Definitely come hungry and aim to share.  Tons of people had to get to go boxes since they couldn't finish the massive portions! Home-y style restaurant located in a small shopping plaza near the airport!

Flying out of Maui on a 10:30pm flight, this must be your last meal before heading home.  Right down the street from the airport in Kahului, you have no excuse to not visit.

    Likes:
    - Fried Spam Musubi was great.  You could really have this as your meal because it's so dense, you must share this with someone else or you won't have room for your dinner.
    - Kalua pork sandwich.  There was easily 3/4 lbs. of pork on this sandwich, it was gigantic.
    - Fish basket - this was a ton of food and probably could have fed the two of us without any problem.  Two pieces of panko crusted fish, two pieces of tempura fish, fried shrimp and french fries.

    Dislikes:
    - Fish basket was listed as "market price" but definitely didn't expect $24.99 when the bill came.  Probably should have asked that in advance...
    - Tag team waitressing seemed to be disjointed, leaving us trying to flag down whichever waitress would come closest to our table.
    - That we didn't come here as the first meal after getting off the plane!

If you're flying into the Kahului Airport, stop by here for your first meal!  It's close by and gives you an initial sample of what's to come.

    Get two things:
    1. Fried spam musubi: SHARE!  Even one piece is heavy especially because it's packed with carbs AND is fried.
    2. Loco moco: SHARE!  Big portions with two big scoops of rice and two over easy eggs.  Meat patty was adequately seasoned.

Lots of locals in the area so try to blend in by learning the Maui accent.  Maybe get some fake tats and a tan before you get there.

Foregoing the drab and expensive airline food, we decided to try Da Kitchen as our first stop after flying in from the mainland. Not sure if it was because we arrived after the normal lunch hour, but our food was luke warm at best and not very flavorful. We started with the deep fried spam musubi, followed by the Kalbi ribs. Musubi tasted like it had been reheated -- it needed more sauce; the ribs were fatty and barely editable. Ate less than half and asked for the check.

The flavor is there and lifetime local Maui people love the place. Huge amounts of food are great for leftovers. Hawaiian reggae playing. I guess my complaint would be that you don't exactly feel healthy when you leave there, but the food tastes really good....

Specialties: The fried musubi and the different varieties of loco moco. I will talk to the waiter or waitress to find out more, but those were the two dishes we tried this day.

Based on a friends advice, went to try this place after our 5 hours flight. The place opens at 11am and we were there 10 minutes early; surprised to see that there was a line forming pre-opening. The place in the first 5 minutes filled up to 16 tables right off the bat.  And in moments of opening there was already a wait list going around. In my mind, "This place must be good!" JACKPOT!

Deciding what to order, I heard a local getting "the usual", as others quickly placed their favorite dish. Food service is fast, once ordered the wait for least than 5 minutes for the musubi.

Two words, MMMMMMM Good!! The food was excellent, if you are hungry this place will hit the spot. A lot of food for a decent price. We ordered the Fried Musubi and the Loco Moco. Both dishes came out- roughly the same time and the waitress was very helpful in providing a extra plate. In fantasy world I wish I had three stomachs to try the rest of their food. Sadly though I only have 1 stomach and it's full of Hawaiian goodies.

A repeat visit will soon be coming.

Everytime we go to Maui, we eat here at least twice. All of the food I've tried here is amazing:

    -Loco Moco
    -Chicken Teriyaki
    -Garlic Shrimp Fried Rice
    -Chow Fun
    -Fried Spam Masubi

The Mac Salad is the best!

For Kids Menu: my brother ordered the fried mac and cheese. It was disgusting.

Service wasn't great, but the food makes up for it completely.

When I visit Hawaii, I can't help but to go on a hunt for local grub of delicious awesomeness over rice.

After a 15 minute wait, we were seated in a booth and I immediately began to scan the menu. What's this?? FRIED Matsubi? FRIED?? We promptly ordered one (and a regular Spam Matsubi to compare) along with their Moco Loco. When the food came out, I was glad that I decided to share with my bf because the portion size was massive!

The Fried Matsubi was great, and I definitely enjoyed its texture more then the regular one. The patty on the Loco Moco was of hefty thickness and very juicy and flavorful. It was one of the better Loco Mocos I've eaten, and I now consider it as a 'step up' from the typical island flare (based on it having more rice, a thicker beef patty, and being smothered with sauteed mushrooms and onions).

I'm glad I tried the Loco Moco here, because I had a taste of another one later on our trip and it wasn't even close to being satisfactory.

I was delicately rubbing my belly on our way out, which usually concludes that my tummy was very happy.

4 stars only because the water cups they use needs more TLC scrubbing. Eck.

    Yum, Yum and well... YUM!!!

We ended up eating here 3 times while on vacation.

The Katsu Moco Loco was decent, but nothing exciting.  But the NOTORIOUS B.I.G. Moco Loco was AMAZING!!!!  We ended up driving 30 minutes just to get another Moco Loco.

Also, ordered a dirty iced chai, also pretty good.

Note- share the moco loco.  Two of us shared one and ate 2 meals each from it.

You can't not come here when visiting Maui. Huge portions and an even bigger selection than they used to have!  It gets crowded at lunch time, but this place is the real deal... amazing selection of local foods and upscale dishes alike.  Don't miss this place.  Location in Kahului near the airport and one in Kihei.
