5 reviews for Da Franco Italian Restaurant
The food is amazing! I'm always trying different things here. So far one of my favorite dishes is the Penne Del Sindaco. It has little bits in it that taste like bacon! It's truly delicious.
Also the waiters are nice and tend to my every need. The manager is kind and quite funny!
I was even able to talk to the owner and he was very friendly. One of the things he told me that I found interesting was how all of his mozzarella is fresh from his mozzarella factory!
I would definitely recommend everyone to come here. What's even better about this place is that they lowered their prices!! It's very affordable and most definitely worth every cent.
P.S. Thier gelato is out of this world!!!! I love it! Especially the Nucciola=)
Tried Da Franco for the first time tonight. It's a cute casual Italian restaurant/pizzeria. We sat outside on the patio along 21st Street which was great because it was such a nice night. My husband and I split the salad with beets, Gorgonzola cheese, pine nuts, carrots and mixed greens. It was pretty good. The Gorgonzola cheese was delicious and went very well with the sweet beets.
We split the margarita pizza which was great. I loved the crust. Very thin and very crispy which I love. The tomato sauce was really simple and tasty. The fresh mozzarella was very light. I wish there had been some fresh basil on top though.
I guess it was our waiter's first day and you could kind of tell, but he was really nice and attentive. The owner came over to us to chit chat and told us that the fresh mozzarella came from his mozzarella factory.
Overall it was a good experience and I definitely will go back to try some of their other dishes.
Oh and the place doesn't have their liquor license yet, so you can BYO if you want to.
We had pizza delivered last night and were impressed. Great fresh mozz and a nice thin crust with cornmeal on the bottom -- different from most brick-oven places but not unenjoyable. The salad was meh (boring oil-and-vinegar dressing) but we'll definitely order pies again.
I went to this place for the first time and ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and bacon for take out. I leave, get home and discover my sandwich is missing the chicken cutlet. I walk back in the 82 degree humid as hell weather and tell them. I wait for them to fix it. I walk home to find that instead of a chicken cutlet on my sandwich, a piece of grilled chicken. I am not going back again. They should have at least given me something for free... a desert, a drink, anything.
I had this exact same problem at McDonalds, and even they gave me 2 free apple pies. I've been to an Italian Deli that gave me a free Boarshead bottle of sauce for being a new customer. And these people cant give me anything but a "oh im sorry". The manager/owner was there too... did nothing.
As far as the sandwich; it sucks. I should have gone to my local deli and paid $3 less.
Don't go here. Overpriced and Disappointing.
As an Italian who lived in Italy for the first 18 yrs of her life, I was much excited when I first tried Da Franco few months ago. The pizza was excellent, the calamari were delicious, the service was good. Thus, I decided to bring one of my good friends here- and alas I was really disappointed. Everything had changed. First of all our dinner took over 2 hours and even our water glasses were empty on a Friday night that was not busy in the least. The pizza was completely different. The deliciousness of the imported mozzarella di bufala was replaced with the tasteless, runny home made version. The pizza crust was still good, but the sauce was too runny and without taste. We also tried the lasagna, gnocchi with arugula and the branzino. The fish was fresh, but the gnocchi's sauce was more a soup than a sauce. It also extremely lacked in flavor. The lasagna was also veyr mediocre. I was really upset that in just 2 months this great placed had turned mediocre. but to be honest most non-Italians will still find it rather decent especially considering the price, although there are much better choices in the city.
