Neighborhood: Manhattan/Midtown EastComing here to meet the opposite sex--easy. But the man of my dreams always seems to be married. Damn it!
A hundred stars!!!
In New York? You have to visit Bryant Park. The place is beautfiul even when there are no events.
Usually, you can see Broadway plays (exceprts of them) with the real actors, on stage at the park in the summer.
We have seen Lion King, In the Heights, Rent, Spamalot, and tons of others there right there in the park. No fees, no charge.
Best part. They gave out free lemonade and free ice tea for most of the events. Other freebees also .
BEWARE: Since they are giving out so many free things at the park, there are scammers around the park trying to take advantage of tourists who don't know any better.
If someone hands you a cd -- or asks your name ---so they can give you a FREE cd, know that this CD is not free. Once you give the person your name and once they autograph the cd,they TRY and get money from you, claiming that your name is on it.
You, thought it was free (you, the tourist), others, native New Yorkers know better.
So, only take the FREE ITEMS from legitmate tables and exhibits inside the park.
If someone is walking around handing out things outside the park, usually they will expect money from you.
We saw so many tourists get "taken" that day, the day the Broadway actors were giving their performances for free. One after another. The guy said, "what's your name" --the tourists gave their name and got taken for their money.
NOTE: Don't talk to strangers in Bryant Park. Normal people and business people will not approach you. SO if someone approaches you in NYC, you can almost bet that they PROBABLY are scammers or pickpockets.
This is NEW YORK. Remember that and you will be okay. Leave your home-town friendlyness at home. Do not talk to strangers here.
Walk in groups or with friends.
If you are alone in the park, stay in the populated areas. Stay away from strangers who want to approach you.
The park has LOTS of security; when in doubt, approach a uniformed security officer. Do not speak with anyone not in uniform who claims to be security.
Stay safe, have a great day.

Despite the ending of Casablanca, which I hated, I can see why people would love to watch a movie here. It's right in the center of NYC. I mean, how frigging awesome is that. You have four streets surrounding you and towering buildings all around in their shiny and glassy glory. You know how amazing this movie event is? When the movie started, people started dancing around like it was Bono rushing out and started doing his thing. Although there is one warning I'd like to share, do NOT drink too much or you'll end up bothering everyone around you to find out what's going on. Would I do this again? In a heartbeat.
Johnny walker + Bryant park + Casablanca = Huh? what the hell just happened? "Here's looking at you, kid." What kind of crap is that.

I've never had a bad experience. Even the experience of my first movie night that I thought was going to be bad because I was so late ended up being a good one because Adrian P. had space for me and my 3 friends on the lawn and I was watching one of the coolest classic films of all time and because I knew what would happen at the end, I took a nap on the lawn!
My final movie night of the summer was my birthday and there were Yelpers and non-Yelpers and champagne, Crumbs cupcakes, and Casablanca. How can you go wrong? You just can't.
The lawn was a bit damp because we had a pretty good storm the other night. Whatever. Bring a blanket and cozy up next to your friends. Don't wear white or anything of the pastel color palette. You're golden.
It's fun if it's your birthday. people join in singing to you. It's also fun if you don''t have any rhythm because when the (sponsored by) HBO theme music comes on all you gotta do is stand up and jump around like you're really excited. Sometimes there are people in the crowd who don't know what's going on so they get upset because you're standing but don't mind them ... they're just not cool like you.

Watching Annie Hall at Bryant Park Summer Movie Series...Priceless.
Yes, it really was priceless. It was free. However the sound quality at the park was so terrible that all you could hear was loud, echo-y noise and could literally not make out any of the dialogue. And it's so crowded that you're sitting about 50 miles back from the screen.
Leaving 10 minutes into the film, renting a Woody Allen and watching it at Audrey's apartment...Five Stars

"Can it be that it was all so simple then?"
That is the theme of my Bryant Park experience. Within glorious walking distance of the office, Bryant Park is a fabulous place to relax and forget about CC'ing and due diligence-ing and instead soak in the grass beneath my toes and the sun upon my face. People watching is a fun way to spend time in this little oasis in the middle of the city. However, if you REALLY must do work, you ought to know that there is free wireless access here, so Bryant Park can always be an attractive alternative to the office.
As for the quote...one of my most memorable experiences from the summer has to be going to the Bryant Park free movie night, sitting in one of the cafe chairs on the sideline, and sobbing my eyes out in the company of hundreds of strangers-cum-fellow-movie-watchers as we bonded in the moments when Barbra Streisand states "Your girl is lovely, Hubbell."
"The Way We Were" -- watch it...especially if it's playing at Bryant Park.

When I was visiting they were having a nice little street fair going on here. Little tables with trinkets and interesting knick knacks to browse through. I also hear there are all kind of other events going on here from time to time, ice skating, concerts etc...too bad I didn't get to see any. Right across they way from my friend's optometry school, seems like a great place to walk around and sit and read.

Beautifully redone like a French park ,with movable chairs and gravel paths, after years of neglect--another park in which there used to be only men, always a bad sign.

From movies in the park to holiday fairs to promotional concerts to the new skating rink, Bryant Park offers a lot (for free!) to city residents and visitors. This park has come a long way thanks to the Bryant Park Restoration Fund and we all benefit from having a beautiful place in midtown to stop for lunch, on the way home or on a beautiful weekend day.
Check it out!
Bryant Park is a great place to read a book, eat lunch, catch up with friends. There are many events that also take place here. In the summer, it's Monday Night Movies; in the winter, it's ice skating. Not nearly as massive as Central Park, but relaxing and beautiful all the same.
Free movies, free televised Yankee games, free concerts, free Christmas village, cheap ice-skating... I think it beats Central.
