Nancy Vo is amazing!  She has been highlighting and cutting my hair for about 2 years.  The color is awesome. I always gets compliments on it.  She'll also let you know if something you want is a bad idea.  You won't be disappointed!

I've followed my girl Nancy here from her other salon. I've been going to her for color and partial highlights for 5 years. She is great at what she does and also enjoys being a hairdresser. She listens to you and if by chance you aren't totally happy for some reason (and its happened to me once or twice), she will do what she can (in my case, tone the color down) to make you satisfied, no questions asked.  The salon itself is great, clean and well kept.  The staff at the front desk are always nice. I've never had any problems scheduling or changing an appointment.  It's always a pleasure coming here to see Nancy.

Plenty of free parking out in front too. And they have coffee and quite a few different flavors of creamer to choose from.

Aliki is the best stylist I have EVER had!  People stop me so often to ask who does my hair, I have carried her cards in my wallet for years.

AND she is ridiculously nice.  She's always trying to save me money, & is crazy talented.  I recommend her to everyone!!!!

I have been going to Kim Ettner for about 7 years and she is one of the best stylist in Long Beach.  I get a regular men's haircut but all of the girls I know that have been to her have always been happy with Kim's work.  She has also attended hair shows in Milan and Rome and is up to date on all the trends and styles.  You won't be disappointed.

Got my hair fixed today by the lovely Crystal B. here at D'aversa. I had been cutting my hair myself cause I'm a cheap ass bastard. Crystal was puzzled by who could have cut my hair and when I told I had done it myself, it all made sense to her. She advised me to never do it again. Not bad advice.

Crystal was cool and cleaned up my mess and actually didn't cut my hair too short like everyone else does. I never was satisfied with how others cut my hair (always too short) so that's why I was doing it myself.

Now I have somebody who can cut my hair and who seems to know how to listen to what I want.

    Guy cut was $35.

There were quite a number of attractive women working here which is always a plus.

Wanting to change up my hair via color and being really biased towards the Redken hair color line from personal and professional experience, I wanted to find a salon/stylist that specialized in Redken color.  Underground (my usual spot) mainly using Wella color and not wanting to force my stylist to use a product she is unfamiliar with triggered me to stray.

After days and weeks of searching for someone who I felt was more than well qualified I decided on Kim S.  While at school she and I would text back and forth to find an appointment time that would work for the both of us, I was lucky enough to get an appointment to get my hair cut and colored that same day.

Not too long after checking in,  Kim came over introducing herself and led me to her station.  I told her that after not dyeing my hair for 3 years I was beginning to get antsy and needed a change from natural black.  B/c I hadn't dyed it for 3 years I was hoping that I would be able to just get an all over color (due to the cost & maintenance of highlights).  Studying my hair she informed me that  I would need to get highlights either way.  A little bummed I stated that I wanted natural looking highlights toned to a noticeably lighter shade.

As she worked on my hair I got the vibe that she was a very genuine, no-bullshit type of person which I can definitely respect.  Especially when it comes to someone with the fate of my hair's beauty in their hands as you need someone to be straight up with you about what works for your face and hair.

With the processing, toning, shampooing and conditioning done it was time for my hair cut.  However, I'll be honest when I first saw my hair color I was not ecstatic with the results, but I just prayed it would look different once dry.  Knowing how my hair pretty well I filled her in on the problems of it, like how as my layers grow out the crown tends to become flat while the ends get out of control.  Which leads me to one request.... layers, lots of layers.

At the end of my hair cut, Kim informed me that she had not texturized the ends of my layers, but instead gave me a straight cut suggesting I get my hair cut that way for the next couple of times to see if I notice a change in the health of my hair.  She explained that my hair had been overly texturized therefore even though I had not gotten any chemical treatments done to my hair, the ends felt the way they did.  Which surprised me because I had always thought it was because I'm a hard core blow dryer, giving myself a blow out almost every day.  In order to refrain from having to texturize my hair she chose not to put in as many layers as I had wanted.

Being a recovering hair product junky I appreciated that Kim only used Morrocan Oil on my hair before blow drying, followed by a light spritz of Morrocan Oil hairspray.  My hair, not as va va voom as I'm used to still had nice flips and curls at the end.  The color...wasn't really what I had envisioned.  I became a little more bummed as Kim admitted that now after looking at how perfectly my highlights came out that I could have indeed just done all over color.  She made it a point to tell me that she was very surprised to find out that I hadn't been lying about not coloring my hair for 3 years as I guess with experience she's heard that many times before in which unfortunately for both her and the client, the client was in fact lying resulting in not-so-great results and time spent.  As bummed as I was I couldn't blame her or hold that against her because it is what it is and I would have probably done the same if I was her.

In the end, she gave me a lifetime members card for a 10% discount on any hair product(s) at any of the 3 D1/D'Aversa salons.  While the total bill for full highlights+toning/glazing+cut came out to be less than I had anticipated as I had guesstimated how much to bring using the prices listed on the website.  Idk this was because Kim's prices coincidently added up to be less or if Kim had intentionally charged me less due to the fact that I didn't get what I really wanted due to some bad hair apples from Kim's past and would for sure have to come back again to achieve the result I originally wanted.

    --------

After washing my hair a couple times after my appointment, the color of the highlights changed over to a color that I thought wasn't too shabby.  However, its been a month and my highlights are now a little too light in regards to the still natural black base.  I must note, that despite the color not really tickling my pickle, the actual highlights as far as the widths and placement go...are very nice.   As for my hair cut...I am prematurely dealing with the issues I had mentioned... flat top w/ poofy bottom/ends.

The verdict, not sure.  I love Redken color and know Kim will be able to give me the beautiful color if I return.  But, I'm a little wary as the I didn't fully get the results I hoped for walking in from my first experience with he

I've been coming to this salon for about 2 years now and I would say most of the stylists do a really good job. I first went with Aliki for a cut and style and my hair came out really nice. She is very chatty though.

The next time I went... I made the appointment last minute and I was given Sarah which was a big mistake. She's a nice girl and all but kind of butchered my hair. I could probably have done a better job.

Then I started going to Kim E. who is amazing! Not only is she a great stylist but just an awesome person. Easy to talk to and you don't feel like you need to talk in those awkward moments of silence. I would highly recommend her!

I started going to Michelle S. a few months ago and she is amazing! I don't trust very many people with my hair, but Michelle is awesome! I am never worried about trying new colors or a new style with her because I know I will like it.

If you are looking for a new hair stylist you should definitely consider going to Michelle!

I'm a guy. I don't DO salons.  Nope.  But, I realized that I've been walking the earth looking like a giant a hole.  A certifiable jerk!  Why?  Because of my haircut.  It said to people: "Don't talk to me because I've got an a holes haircut!"

Well, in the words of Wesley Willis I told my barber, please cut my hair right. I'm tired of looking like an @sshole.  Well, that didn't work.  So I had to go elsewhere.

I ended up at D'Aversa.  Melissa cut my hair today.  SHE WAS AMAZING.  Even my mom likes my hair.  That NEVER happens.  EVER!  I actually was able to talk to women, real live women, and not have them punch me.  Seriously.  Women walk the other way.

You see the problem is that my hair always gets cut shorter than I want it.  Always and without fail.  Melissa's cut my hair three times now and does it the way I ask and cleans it up; she doesn't chop it, so to speak.

I hear she cuts women's hair, too.  You should go to D'Aversa and see Melissa.  She does great work.

UPDATED 7/29/08: Ingrid has relocated to the D'Aversa Salon in the Whole Foods shopping center on PCH.

A few years ago I got pissed at my old stylist so I went on a search for a new one. My spidey sense told me that she was blonde with an average build, and that I'd find her close to home. Sure enough, I walked in here, asked the receptionist about the blonde stylists, and Ingrid's name popped out right away. I have not been disappointed with her EVER. Ingrid listens to what I want, helps me know what products will be good with my hair, and has a fun attitude. I have such a girl crush on her and I think it's because of the awesome head & neck massages she gives while washing my hair.

I've been going to D'Aversa (D1) for 10 yrs.  Now that I live up in the south bay, I still trek down to D'Aversa because they're all great.  The ladies have never done my hair wrong, and they're great conversationalists, too.
I don't get dye jobs or anything fancy, I don't know how to style my hair--the ladies always give me a cut that looks fab without upkeep!  And, they look great for a long time.
The place is always busy and has a fun vibe so don't go expecting a serene spa experience.  This place is about getting your hair right.

And to the negative reviews about specific stylists, you should complain to the owner, he will make it right when a rogue stylist (they're at every salon) is unaccomodating.

I went to this the D1 salon in the Ralph's parking lot based on lots of positive reviews on the internet. I was given an appointment with Aliki. She is great!! She took time to really listen to what I wanted, made suggestions and was very easy and fun to talk to. This is the BEST haircut that I have EVER had. I have naturally wavy hair that I usually straighten. Aliki straightened beautifully with a blow dryer. However, the cut is so good that this is the first time that I can also wear it wavy if I chose. I didn't think it was possible.
The other thing I really liked about Aliki is that she didn't try to sell me a lot of additional products and services like some salons do.

Aliki is one of the best stylists EVER!  For the first time in forever, my hair is managable and easy to take care of (I never wore my hair down until I started to see Aliki).  She does a great job with cut and color.  She doesn't do anything to your hair unless you need it.  I have made appointments to get my hair cut and colored and she has opted to "bump my base" and not cut my hair - this not only saved me money (always fantastic) but helps with the overall health of my hair.

    Plus, Aliki is hilarious!

If you need to see an aesthetician, see Justine.  She is THE BEST!  very smart, very knowledgeable, very helpful.  I first met her when I went to The Shave in Beverly Hills.  She used to help out there, and gave me a facial there once and was excellent.  Now I see her at D'aversa a few times a year.  Justine is great

CLAIRE Is the best!! I moved into the area about 4 months ago and was very worried about having to change my hair stylist of 6 years...Until I sat in CLAIRE'S Chair.....I saw D1 while I was grabbing breakfast at the bagel place next door and thought id give them a shot....the salon looked very professional and welcoming...i told CLAIRE how I usually style my hair and that I needed a little change to reflect my new career situation....she did exactly that and was right on the money....she gave me the best cut with a pair of scissors that I've ever had....and not to mention the amazing scalp massage she does while washing!!! She's also great with the clippers (incase the lads are wondering).....Claire made my move to Long Beach that much easier and smoother.....

Can't stand this place.  Really, just an awful experience.
First, if a salon takes credit cards, how can one stylist only accept cash? And wouldn't it be nice if she told you that before you owe her $100 for a crappy cut, and boring color?

Other people love it, but I am not a fan. Give it a try if the giant chain salon is your thing. But if your stylist shows up an hour late....run, it might just be the all cash no clas stylist that I had.

I finally found a man that knows how to run his fingers through my hair . . . Vincent, I heart you!! D1 salon not only has a fabulous location but a subtle glamorous chic atmosphere to it. Came in on this particular night wanting to literally go back to my old roots, hair roots that is, however it has been over 15yrs of cut, color, and style that I had no clue where to start. Vincent is and will be the man for me =o) extremely talented hairdresser, up to date BUT most important a great listener. He's not a scissor crazy stylist. BTW best shampoo/scalp massage EVER!!

Rachelle is as good as they come, I was recommended to her about three years ago and have since followed her to D1 cause she's that GOOD!!!  She has great style and is extremely nice and easy to talk to. She will ALWAYS give you a great color and/or cut and the conversations are never dull.
So if you are looking for a great hair stylist who makes you feel like a friend and not just a client, then Rachelle is the one you are looking for!!!!

Crystal B. is my stylist. I'm usually pretty clueless about my hair, so I'll go in and ask her to make it look good. Sure enough, everytime I leave that salon, I've got a great cut which fits my face, my mood, and my style. She's a great conversation too. I've seen her cut great men's cuts and even children love her! I highly recommend D1 and Crystal B!
