In-n-out for downtown... minus the drive through and the obscure bible verse on the cups.
What more could you want? a quality burger, quality fries, easy, simple. plus the $2 happy hour for chili fries and other goodies. perfect.
plus the lady taking our orders was really nice and asked us if we wanted refills after we were done eating. when we said we had to go, she just gave us a drink to go. bonus!

Simple menu and just what you expect when coming walking in the door. The paintings on the walls are a nice touch and the music is great.
Overall a good meal and the cleanliness helps.
In downtown for jury duty and happened to wander past this place. Had their "#1" meal: cheeseburger, fries and a soda. The burger was pretty good. Fresh beef, no frozen hockey pucks in sight. Grilled onions were lightly grilled, not completely caramelized and soft. I prefer the fully cooked version, but these were pretty good. Cheese was your standard American plastic stuff, edible but not great. Lettuce, tomato, etc. were standard. All-in-all decent but not exceptional. The fries were interesting: primarily conventional with a few sweet potato fries mixed in. I thought that was excellent, as I find sweet potato fries by themselves a bit rich. Unfortunately they cook them together, and while the sweet potato fries were perfect the regular fries were slightly underdone. Still edible, but not perfect. All in all a decent little burger shop. Prices are quite good.
After seeing one of the post cards at Robek's by Ralph's on 9th Street, I had to try it. I saw it before heading to Cole's a while back for the Elite event so I knew there were a few new businesses around.
I thought it was bigger from the pictures and thought there was a bar here since they are open until 2AM and it's in the name. I can't knock them for that because this place is bright and clean. I don't get off until 7PM or else this would be good for happy hour for their menu. $2, you can't beat that. Maybe I'll just take a drive down here if I have another late lunch.
The menu is simple. You almost want to say it's as simple as IN-N-OUT and looks like Johnny Rockets. The vegetables in the burger are really fresh which is a plus for me. You can tell it's a huge onion they sliced, fresh crisp lettuce and ripe tomatoes. Very simple, burger with cheese, pickles, mayo, mustard on a sesame bun. Apparently you can order the burger without sesame seeds on it. Just a plain bun. I'll have to remember that. The fries they've incorporated some sweet potato fries into it for color I suppose but I'd rather have sweet potato fries all together. The seasoning is good so it's not just salt. It's like paprika with black pepper.
Eating here is a plus, you get a nice Coca-Cola glass instead of one of those paper cups with the logo on it. The taste is much better than Johnny's but the menu is simple. If they expanded their menu like say an egg or bacon in the burger like they do at FatBurgers? I'd come here late at night because I would not have to wait 20 minutes for a burger even if I was the only one waiting. Don't get me wrong, Fatburgers is really good but not good when you're hungry waiting for your food.
To order, you can sit down and the nice girl will take your order or you can order at the register where it says "order here". The burger by itself is $4.55 by itself so might as well get one of the combos with the fries and a drink. Eating here you get a lot of fries. Mustard and ketchup on the counter, that made for really great fries and a burger.
For those who really know me, I ate all my fries at this place. So what does that tell ya?? I'll be coming back here when I want something different than the regular stuff around my work place.

While I love the idea of a comfortable burger joint with a streamlined menu, the burgers are mediocre. The beef's flavor is too mild, honestly it's almost equivalent to a school cafeteria burger. I like the sweet potato/regular fries combo, but the sweet potato was charred. Not so good.
The restaurant is really cute and bright, but the food doesn't match the ambience by any means. It's good for a late-night snack coming home from your local bar (that you've walked to/from...of course).
reminds me of "The Max' (you know from Saved by the Bell)...
downtown is beginning to feel like a city within a city..with pockets of coolness scattered about... D-Town took an attempt, which I applaud, to become a pocket of its own, but has become just another wannabe IN&OUT thats got the pull and taste of Burger King...
space is tight, food is mediocre but I always appreciate indepedents trying to make their mark...this one needs to try harder!

I want D-Town Burger Bar so bad right now that I'm writing a review.
Matt P kindly offered to take me here about 2 hours ago, and I am still patiently waiting for him to be ready.
At D-Town Burger Bar, I will get a reasonably priced cheeseburger with a mix of regular and sweet potato fries. I will probably get a coke with that, too. If it get to be happy hour by the time we leave, I will probably get onion rings and a shake because it will be happy hour.
Afterwards, I will complain about how many calories I just ingested and feel really guilty, Then I will vow to work out tonight (I probably won't work out tonight).

If we're purely talkin' burgers, I can't say D-Town's star menu item is anything but a slightly better version of McDonald's.
The patties are thin and always cooked well-well-well done... to the point the outside of the burger becomes slightly blackened/burnt from the skillet.
Definitely nothing to write home about, but for $5, get some cheese and pile-on the ketchup and you've got a pretty good hang-over cure.
That said, their fries are rockstars: 80% normal fries, 20% sweet potato-fries which is both genius and tasty. However, for some reason, they go cold very fast. Doesn't stop me, though.
Being in the 6th Spring/Main area, I'd say I go here out of convenience and/or lack of options more than anything.

came here last night before the artwalk and it was aight...nothing special...just burgers and dogs, but the place was cute, equipped with a jukebox and everything! they have $2 happy hour with like four items on that menu - chili fries, onion rings, grilled cheese and a small shake. overall, the food was ok and the service was above average, but not sure i'd come back here when there are so many other great restaurants around!

If for some reason a glass store front and "white pop art" makes your experience at a restaurant an enjoyable one then this is the place for you -- fair amenities but they definitely won't make your burger taste better.
Again, if you're the type of diner who doesn't need attentive service then, sure, this place is perfect. I've never harped on service; I'm all about the experience so the fact that my burger sucked or my table was dirty doesn't really bother me.
A good tell sign for a well-run burger joint is if they ask you: what temperature would you like your meat cooked? They basically killed my burger and I've eaten well done beef before, but it was absolutely tasteless. And it's disappointing because I don't want to be that guy who over-critiques a place and finger points out every mundane detail.
I read the reviews and figured I could add this place to my list of frequent stops. It's good for a "one-and-done" or "late-nite-anything-that's-open-I'll-eat", but I can't imagine ever going back to this place again.
The prices are reasonable, but there are fast food restaurants [McDonald's] where they certainly can make the food a little [a lot] better.
My friend and I walked here after Unique LA to get something to eat. Being one that is in love with a good hamburger, I was excited to try D-Town. The place was super clean and had that whole sort of 50's era vibe going on. I noticed a chalkboard menu to the side that listed Happy Hour items:
Happy Hour EVERY DAY 4-7pm...$2.00!!
Onion Rings
Small Shake
Chilli Fries
BLT
Grilled Cheese
You can't beat that for two bucks. D-Town has a very simple 5-Item menu, very In-N-outish. I got the cheeseburger combo with an orange Fanta. My friend got the same, but added bacon on his hamburger.
The hamburger was delicious. The order got a little mixed up so I ended up getting bacon on mine as well....NOT complaining! I was fully satisfied with the way it tasted. Also, instead of traditionally served with ketchup, it was doused with mustard which ended up being super good.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of sweet potato fries. And although it's a neat idea to mix up the regular fries with the sweet potato ones, I ended up picking out all of the regular fries. If I could change anything, I think it'd be to pick between the two because I ended up throwing the rest away.
Unless you can find street parking, you'd have to park in a paid lot a block down. Too bad I don't live closer. D-Town is open until 2:30am, and this would be a welcome change from all those street dogs I've been buying after a night at the bar.

Very plain and simple food and menu, like In-N-Out - my kinda thing, as I'm a girl that can't comprehend expensive food. It's yummy and gets the job done, and I enjoy the randomly placed yam fries. Nom nom.

My fourth burger for National Burger Month was quickly consumed at D-Town Burger Bar in Downtown LA. The name is slightly deceiving. I couldn't find a bar here at all. Maybe D-Town Burger Joint would have been a better name. Regardless, we made our way up to the counter in this 50's inspired diner to order up from their small menu. The menu, similar to In & Out, is simple. Single, double, vegi, or hot dog. But that's where my comparison to In & Out ends. The burgers themselves are more reminiscent of Johnny Rockets.
A flat beef patty, cooked through well done, between two nicely toasted white buns. Cheddar cheese, onions, tomatoes, pickles, and mayo. Despite being cooked well done, the meat managed to retain some juiciness, and had good flavor. It's a pretty plain Jane burger. But for downtown it's a good choice if you are craving a some meat and buns on your lunch hour.
The fries were hot and crisp, a mix of sweet and standard potato. The prices are slightly higher for what you get, say at In & Out, but weren't entirely unreasonable. $6.75 for a cheese burger combo and $7.50 if you make it a double.
They have a daily happy hour from 4-7pm. $2 will get you onion rings, a small shake, chilli fries, a BLT, or grilled cheese sandwich. It's a good spot to stop in if you need a cheap meal. Best thing is, they are open from 11am-11pm 7 days a week.
Pics and lots of other goodies on my blog. Check out my profile for the link.

This street use to be terrible. No street lights, nothing open past 6 PM, trash piled up everywhere. Completely dead.
The owners of this building (who own 3 other buildings next door) did the impossible, take the low income housing, add food + retail + and revamp the lower part of the building to bring back the building and the area to what it once was.
I love the idea; just a couple great comfort foods, and below 8 bucks for a combo. However, everything felt very ordinary. No interesting sauces, basic french fries (however, sweet potato with normal skinny fries mixed in) and a really boring vege patty.
While its cheaper than Petes - you pay for quality there. This reminded me of slightly upgraded dorm food, in all honestly.
I'll keep coming here, as I know the owners are still tweaking the menu. The service was impeccable, and the waitresses refilled my coke, and were very fast.

Decent food, decent price. Friendly service and a nice new addition to an area that was previously quite dark, sleazy and ominous. The new burger joint along with the brightly lit convenience store next door, definitely drew my attention on a recent dog walk. Kudos to the building owners for doing this, because I would have otherwise never known these two storefronts existed.
It's nice to be able to grab a quick burger and fries without having to get into my car or walk so far that my food is cold by the time I get home. It's a small simple menu, a la In-N-Out, so I asked if there was other items like the secret menu I.N.O. has. Waitress at counter told me they also have chilli to add to fries or burgers for extra $0.75. Other specialty items may become available that will be posted on their chalkboard.
i can definitely see myself stopping by once a week or so for a quick fix. Now if the skeevy jerkoffs who run/loiter around the convenience store next door stop oggling every woman with a heartbeat that walks by, I may step into that joint once in a while too. Maybe some things on this block will never change...

The cheeseburger was underwhelming and the fries that mixed potatoes and sweet potatoes were very good -- hot and crispy. The decor is cute but doesn't make up for the below average burger. I would only return for the fries. O Bar and Kitchen nearby has much better sliders. You're far better off at In-n-Out burger for a fraction of the price. Or go to Houston's for a real burger if you're willing to pay more.

The burger gets the job done; be sure to ask for no cheese (automatically included) and no mayonnaise if you don't care for it.
I liked that they threw in a few sweet potato fries in the mix, and that the music was legit... but the food is actually only a few steps above fast food. A decent price for a veg burger, fries, and a drink. They also have shakes.
It's a burger joint with decent prices, plain and simple.
If you're looking for hand made patties on a fancy bun then this is not your place. If you are offended that the burger and fries doesn't cost $13 then this is not your place.
For a little more than $6 I enjoyed a burger, regular french fries (not all spiced up and made to be something exotic) and a drink.
It's a great addition to the neighborhood and downtown since there are very few places you can grab a quick bite, at a decent price and don't have to to be dressed up to do so.
My only complaint would be seating - there isn't a ton of it and it had no effect on us. However, the group of four that arrived after we did had to scramble and find chairs to sit around a tiny little table.
This will be a regular cheap and easy option for us.
Amazing burger place with a 50's vibe. Open late. A must if your a local.
I went there for the first time today and ordered the #2 combo! Loved it. The bun was fresh and slightly toasted even. I liked how they put a couple sweet potato fries with my regular fries. I was the first customer there today and was hoping the fries would be cooked all the way and crispy and they were! The only downside is you don't get your drink until you pick up your order but considering the environment outside I probably wouldn't have a self serve soda fountain either. I think I made a mistake picking a window table as I nearly lost my appetite a few times at some of the people that walked by. Next time I'll sit down at the bar so my back is to the window or bring something to read.
This place is great! The entire joint is spotless! I love the cleanliness of it all. The burger...well, they are burgers. No use in trying to review them. They were good! I had the veggie and my friend had the beef.Lots of veggies on the burgers. I enjoyed both. I love the fries...which are a meal in itself....lots o fries mixed with a few sweet potato fries...which is nice. The staff is very friendly. I give it five stars because it is an extremely clean place, the friendly staff and great service. I must say thoug, after eating my burger and fries, and drinking down my coke while listening to vintage jukebox music (which I love, please don't change the juke) I really wanted a banana split or a hot fudge sundae. That would have made the whole experience complete. I know that this place is new....so if you own BB or work there....please get some banana splits on the menu.
I will absolutely be back!
This is a good burger place. Plain and simple... literally. It is brand new and so everything is very nice and clean (hopefully they keep it that way). The counter seats are spaced far apart so that you can eat in peace and not accidentally dip your elbow in their ketchup. The food is pretty good - what they do offer. They basically have a burger, double burger, grilled cheese and hot dog. Oh, and don't forget the fries. Everything is really fresh and you can taste it in the burgers. I like the fact that you can watch them cooking your burger so you know it's not being made incorrectly (or spit into or something). The service is super-friendly and the prices are expected - not expensive, but not super cheap either - I think it's about $5 for a burger. I like this place because it's right around the corner from my apartment and I like the fact that my neighborhood is getting more... neighborhood-y :-)
Don't go expecting anything spectacular, nor would I go out of my way to eat here, but if you're in the area and are in the mood for a good, basic burger, this is your place. Hmm, maybe someday they'll add a few things to their menu and spice-it up a bit.
im updating this for an awesome cooked-to-order double-turkey with cheese. the turkey burgers are WAY better than the beef. plus they are now open until 2:30 am thurs, fri, saturday. 2 dollar happy hour 4-7pm. if only they served alcohol.....

I went to D-town a few times the first week it opened. I had anticipated it's opening for a while and I was definitely not let down. I have been back many times since and have yet to be disappointed.
The burgers are good, with lots of veggies and the fries are awesome with the mix of regular and sweet potato fries. They have some things that are not included on the menu too, like chili cheese fries/dogs, thousand island dressing, ranch, and they just added turkey burgers which are also a big hit with me.
The only slight down side I see with this place is the diversity in personalities with the staff. Some are more cheery and inviting than others. The first time I went in there were 2 girls working and they were both very friendly, chatty and made me feel comfortable and welcome. I liked the strike up of conversation. It made it a much more personal experience. One of the girls looked exactly like kristen stewart swear to god man, that alone is worth the trip. The other girl had short hair and gorgeous baby blues. All the girls are very attractive but I try to schedule my visits when I think a certain few will be working.
The food is worth the visit, and it's fairly priced, but if you go with the right workers it is a different experience.
We like D-town. And the service has gotten much more friendly since our first visit. For what it is, a simple, no-frills menu and clean interior, this beats any fast food drive-up hands down.
