It's a great place for wine, but for other stuff I would be weary. Lunch meat bologna on your cheese plate? Are you kidding me?
But again, their wine is good, and cheap.

My first experience at DOC was 5 years ago. After brunch with a friend, Tammy*, at the now-defunct Oznot's Dish, we decided that another drink was in order (the perfect way to alleviate our hangovers). One drink turned into a bottle of white, and suddenly it was 1 AM and the room is spinning. The two of us drank something like 4 bottles of wine and I remember the owner (this very sexy Italian) sitting on Tammy's lap.** I also remember a large group of strangers joining us for a bottle of port.
While I don't recall most of what happened that night, I still had a retarded amount of fun and have been going back ever since. The sexy Italian is still there with his bedroom eyes, and he always persuades me to buy whatever it is he's selling. The wine is the best in Williamsburg, and I always have a perfect experience there, whether it's stopping by for a nightcap or getting wasted on a Sunday afternoon.
Bonus! Did you know they fly their buffalo mozzarella in from Sicily? Jesus, is it good.
*her name has been changed. I would NEVER hang out with a Tammy.
** Tammy spent the next day on the couch reading the Bible swearing she would never drink again. But that is neither here nor there.

My date and I went to DOC Wine Bar this past Friday and had a lovely time (despite our waitress who apparently disliked us, but more on that later). Our waitress recommended a a wonderful glass of red wine for me that I loved and ordered for the rest of the night (and I'm usually a white wine drinker) and she recommended my date a nice glass of white. After our order was taken and water brought to the table, service seemed to go downhill. She forgot two of our dishes - the prosciutto with melon and plate of cheeses (and what's wine without cheese?!) - and after we finished our second glass of wine, she whisked our glasses off the table and didn't ask if we wanted another glass (which we did). We sat for about 20 minutes sipping water and trying to get her attention, which we never got. Luckily the other two waiters were very nice and friendly - we were given a dessert menu (upon request) and he took our order - dessert wine (moscato d'asti, yum!), tiramisu and salame di chocolate (?) - both was which was rich and delicious. (We wouldn't have ordered two desserts normally, but felt we had to because we hadn't gotten two of the dishes we had originally ordered.) After that, our servers seemed to have changed from our originally waitress to the man who took our dessert order because he came over to our table occasionally to see how we were doing, exchanging friendly banter with my date and even took a picture for us... until she placed the check on our table (NOT upon request). OVERALL however, we loved the ambiance, the food & the wine and, at times, even that we were left alone to talk and enjoy each other's company... just wondering why our waitress seemed not to want to serve us - maybe because we didn't order a bottle? Though we did drink enough to be monetarily equivalent to getting a bottle - or we would have, had she not just whisked away our glasses without a backward glance at us.

I went here on a "date" with a friend I had not seen in some time. We got a bottle of red wine, a cheese and meat plate, and a couple of fennel salads. All very good.
My friend and I sat and chatted by candle light and almost reached across the table to hold hands. It's that romantic in there! A great place to take a date. Seriously, everyone was on a date when we went. We were forced to flirt with our waiter.
In the warmer months you'll be lucky if you can grab a table outside.

I do love my wine. So when I went here, I was a bit shocked to see a selection of easy-to-find $10 wines being pawned off for $7-$10 a glass.
The most outrageous part ? They measure the amount of wine before putting it in the glass! Wow, that really got my goat. How cheap can you get? The least any wine bar can do is pour the wine directly into your glass to at least give the illusion that you're not getting swindled.
To precisely measure out stingy portions from a $10 bottle of wine and charge $10 for it? See ya...
At Trader Joe's you can get an Organic Primativo for $5.99 that is superior in quality - and a log of Italian salami for the price of one glass of wine here.

Been going here for years, and the food has been consistently excellent. Italian regional meats, cheeses, flatbread (yum!), salad, crostini, panini, a few daily specials and of course, wine (D.O.C., or Denominazione di Origine Controllata, is an Italian wine designation indicating it comes from authentic origins and techniques).
Do go here to linger in a romantic, rustic atmosphere with friends or lovers and nibble. You can't go wrong with the mixed cheese or mixed meats plates...the pesto crostini is off the hook, the olives are happy olives, not the sad olives you get at some places. Did I mention the flatbread?
Do not go here when you're really hungry excepting New York-service. Everything is authentic Italian here, and that includes the service. You'll need to be patient for your food and your waiter -- even when they're not busy -- unless you're a friend, a baby, a grandparent, or a hot girl sitting at the bar.
Prices seem to be creeping up all the time (the weak dollar?). You'll need to spend at least $45 or more including wine to get full. Oh yes, and keep in mind they charge a $6 per person plating fee if you bring your own cake. Ouch! I'd like to give this place 3 stars for their prices, but that extra star is because it's a special, unique place.

This restaurant has THE worst service of any restaurant I've encountered in New York. THE absolute worst. And by New York, I mean the entire continent of North America. It took 2 hours for my friend and I to receive wine, a cheese plate, and a simple salad. I had to physically get up twice to ask for our bill and even then they still did not bring it. What a joke this place is. Never again.

This is a great date place.
You get a good wine selection and a decent menu and great atmosphere, like you have been picked up and carried away from NYC.
This place is dark and rustic like an old farmhouse with low ceilings. There are ancient tools hanging from the walls but somehow it doesn't look like a theme restaurant. The vibe is very casual and friendly, they have a long communal table in the very back room and scattered tables throughout the rest of the space. The outside is okay but at night the street light is too bright so it isn't the best, it can get stuffy inside during the summer.
The wine list is great and there is an emphasis on Sardegna. The cheese and snack selection is enough to keep you going, plus they usually have some more substantial specials. They removed the rind on my Taleggio but when I asked the chef about it, he sent out a new plate with the rind intact. I find the service (host, waiters, some lady at the bar, and the chef) to be extremely friendly even on crowded nights. Not only for dates, I think this place is good for any type of group looking to try a variety of wines and small plates.
I've always really liked this place and I am a big fan of the reserve list - they often have some quality Barolo's and Amarone's on it.
Slice cheese, arrange on plate...serve?
Apparently too hard for the folks at D.O.C. Wine Bar.
A table next to us--who arrived quite a while afterwards--received steaks before my table received a "specialty" cheese plate. After asking for it, the waiters were completely unapologetic and snotty. And after asking for our bill a couple of times, we just threw money on the table and got the hell out of there.

Can't believe that I haven't stumbled on this place before. Excellent wine bar in Williamsburg: they have a great selection of bottles, most of which are available for a sizable $3 taste. The menu piqued my interest and the food looked and smelled great, but I will be honest and say that my friend and I stuck to the meat and cheese plate for a snack.
The m/c plate was okay, but next time I'd just get the meat plate as the cheeses were unexciting to say the least and the meats were quite good. Also, you can order the plate for one person or two, but our server recommended that we split the one person since the two person option was really meant for large parties.
If I actually lived in Williamsburg, I think this place would fast become my after work standby.

This place has a great vibe. Just don't go here hungry as I did. If you are go to PT which is owned by the same chef. I really enjoyed the very easy to navigate wine list. Excellent selection.
Great! Owned by the same folks as PT (S 3 & Bedford) -- similar decor and attention to wine, which is a good thing. I don't really understand wine, but places like this are certainly educating me and making me appreciate it a bit more.
Very friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, little outdoor area, extensive wine list.. this place is good stuff.

D.O.C. wine bar is not just a wine bar, it is in fact, also quite an authentic Italian gem. Admittedly I do not frequent there to eat as much as to enjoy the delicious wines they have and their rustic and adorable environment.
With an impressive wine list and servers that are super friendly, I could stay belly close to their bar for ages. I was just there on Saturday and I had the nicest pinot nero with some friends. We also ordered one of their delicious crostini, black olive tapenade on rustic bread. Nice.........

This was our pick for an "it might rain so let's go somewhere close to the subway" spot. It's a nice rustic Italian wine bar with food, your standard meat/cheese plates, salads and crostini plus some paninis and pasta. We sat outside and had the cheese plate, the meat plate, and the caprese salad (fresh mozzarella and tomato), all of which were decent and the mozzarella of which was excellent (the tomatoes, eh). The bartender/server was spacey but nice, and an extremely low talker, which was amusing. The sommelier was a little insulting, and that was not so amusing. But he also had food on his shirt when he was speaking to us, so we just laughed it off. In the end this place turned out to be sort of expensive: the night's "special" wine was $10 a glass, and I suppose that had something to do with it, since it took a while for us to get it together and order a bottle. But despite the overpricedness, it's a cute little spot.

My Bacchus hero and overlord of decadence, Paco, turned me onto this place. It's always packed with lively locals. Reminds me of Suppenkuche but with a much better tasting menu and a cozier rustic vibe. The food is Sardinian: great antipasti, the cheese plate ..MMMM!!. great selection of wines. Williamsburg at it's best and best of all..it's around the corner from George Miu (shoe store)

first impressions say a lot, and my first impressions caused me to leave just minutes after being seated.
the host was rude when seating us... it was a slow tuesday night, and there were two of us, yet he refused to seat us at the one nice table-for-four outside, instead forcing us to sit inside in the humid, dark, crowded (as in tables too close together, not too many people) dining room.
it wasn't so much that he didn't want to give up his table-for-four to the two of us, it was the unapologetic way he said it. i mean, i drink enough for 3 people anyway, so what's the problem, bub?
the ambiance inside was lacking, but even the ambiance outside is kinda bad... you either sit in a dark side corridor with air conditioners spitting down on you, or you sit in a cramped streetside corridor where you are really too close for comfort to your neighbors. i need privacy when sipping wine and telling my stories.
a bit pricey, a bit snobby, a bit pedestrian.
there are plenty of better choices in wburg for wine and a good time.
