Review from Tres B.
Denver, CO
The D-note is an outstanding sleeper of ablues venue. Its clean, it dark wooded. Great beers, a superior staff of friendly folks and a jammin' mix of live music.
They do serve food, including and entirely serviceable pizza. Fresh and solid, perfect for the second beer.
But for me, its all about the music and "The Blues". Dance a bit, wiggle in your chair, tap your foot, shake your dumpy rump, flail til you fail, act too cool for Ja-Rule, but go. -

We went to see Blind Child. It was my first time there. I didn't care for the cover charge (only for the band? BUT, many people "came for the food" and stayed for the band and never paid??). Also, BEWARE of their ATM, which charges $2 for use and a $2 FOREIGN (??really??) charge. So the cover was $5, but the ATM charges made it a $9 night (not to mention that you can only take out in $20 increments) just to watch the band (which was mediocre). Wine was $7 for a 1/2 glass. Ugh. Not a great first impression.
My friends all swear this place is awesome. I'm hoping to try it again with different results. -

Groovy.
Large, lots of seating, set right smack dab in the middle of an adorable old town. Gotta give it up for Wednesday nights with the Clam Daddys. They never fail to entertain.
The pizza is surprisingly tasty (I'm not a big pizza person) and the hummus was made fresh. The drinks were good and delivered fast, though the bartending staff seemed a bit into themselves and a tad on the arrogant side. You know --- they took their everlovin' time, proceeded like rockstars, etc etc. They need to warm up generally, but all in, they were all right.
I'll def be back to catch the Clam Daddys again and have a nice slice of pizza. Do try it! -

Bestest pizza ever! Live music was pretty chill too. All in all a good night with great friends, music, beer and pizza!

If you're looking for a good restaurant, DON'T go to the D note!! The second we stepped inside the door, we were told "we can serve you but you'll have to be out by the time the dance lessons start"! HUH?? Well, if I didn't have a Groupon, we would have left then. The waitress finally came and took our orders. We waited over an hour for our food which was cold and not so great, drinks weren't refilled, waited even longer for check. Will never go back!

Tried to set up a charity event here. The D Note wouldn't offer even happy hour prices for the volunteers. They were kind enough to offer "some hummus and bread." When I came back to them and informed them that our sponsor could provide a free keg for the donation drive volunteers all I got was silence. Maybe they do have good food. And we should all support local music. But put your dollars in an establishment not run by D bags.

I frequent the D Note, about 4x a month, and usually have a good time. They have great, design your own pizza, my favorite beers, and the occasional special martini. The musicians are usually above average, the sound system is almost always too loud, like they think louder is better, in fact I usually leave because of the poor mix and loudness!
That being said I was there last Friday, yea the 13th! and they had a band named the Hitchhikers or something Legend, anyway the sound was FANTASTIC, from where I sat, in front of the stage everything was clear! The vocals present and the overall mix was perfect!
The best part was I did not have to yell to order my food, drinks or get the attention of the waitstaff, who always give 110%.
Kudo's to Andy and Adam for getting the sound under control, it makes me want to come back and stay longer!
By the way I left shortly after the 2nd band came on, Father something, they could have been good but the sound sucked and was so loud it hurt :-( too bad i would have liked to hear them too.

Well to update this once again. The pizza has improved and was very good. The service has improved greatly!! And this time I notice all the artwork from local artist - which I think is always a great way to showcase your stuff and to sale it as well!
I really like their concept to showcase new talent - or old talent, along with a variety of tastes.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Jodi A.
Three stars for the food and service, five stars for the atmosphere and art culture ! We dropped in for lunch, the D-note was alive with young people hanging their art for an art show and benefit. So watching them tap nails into the mortar between the bricks and hang their very cool creations while we sipped our drinks and munched on our salad and "Beast" pizza (which was a combination of every kind of meat...including chicken..) was really entertaining. A band was also setting up on the stage behind us. I really wanted to stay and watch everything, but we had other things to do. :(
The service was slow and distracted, I had to find the waitress to re-fill my drink. The pizza was good, but not "knock-your-socks-off." I hope to go back for drinks and entertainment, not really into their food. Fun place ! -
Review from Gretchen P.

I wish I'd started my Torchwood/Doctor Who marathon two months sooner. It would have helped. Well, it would have helped with just the one question, but still, knowing now what I should have known then burns just a little. Oh well, now I know. It's called the TARDIS. Gretchen of today is embarrassed for past Gretchen.
Oh right, WHY would I need to know that tiny bit of information at the D Note? For trivia night. Such a nice, smallish mix of people congregating, answering random, out of left field questions. Small microcosms of friends, making up a random hodgepodge group. I was used to my bar in Houston's very crowded version of Thursday night Geeks Who Drink trivia, so I was pleasantly surprised.
We got the TARDIS question wrong, as well as one about Lion King and animals from Madagascar. Hold on, it was my team's answer writer who got the Madagascar question wrong. Didn't believe me. There were quite a few more questions that we got wrong, but let's not go there. It would be dull for you and horrid for me.
I buried my woes in a quesadilla. The only good thing about it was it's name: David Lee Roth. The vegetables were bland, the cheese was bland. For a quesadilla, there was no zip. It was not Just like Paradise.
In turn, I buried my food woes in wine and more trivia. Not terribly shabby in the end, we came in third place (out of eight...and two teams left early).
As we packed up to head to the next bar, a band was setting up onstage. Nice to see that Arvada's getting a bit more of a nightlife that it had a few years back. -

Went here to see a band, I loved the place. Good beer selection and kid friendly.
I did not try the pizza. But anytime someone is eating NY style pizza with a knife and a fork, it sends up warning signs. However the people I talked to said they liked the pizza. -

Great pizza but the deserts are even better. Made on pizza dough with a little cinnamon sugar on top!
Great blues music on Wednesday and the place is sizzling on Sunday nights with Salsa.
Fun down-to-earth neighborhood place.
Note: This is not the place for organic super healthy salads with all bells and whistles. -

Charging me a cover on a Friday night at 6:30p when I tell you I'm there to eat and not for the music, after you specifically ask me if I'm there to eat or for the music..... not a good way to start off an evening. Not to mention the fact that the website does NOT list a cover charge for the 7pm performer.
I really hope that guitar player got our $10.
At any rate, our waitress was impatient at best, rude at worst. We were punished with passive aggressive attention after not being ready to order immediately. The beers are overpriced at 4.50 a bottle, and the panini's were nothing to write home about. the cheese inside was barely melted. Watching the waitress open a bottle of wine at the next table and then fill both glasses within a 1/2 inch of the top, and putting the bottle (complete with wine drips down the side) directly on the table.... really? Even casual joints such as this need to remember that all good staff deserves training and pointers in professional service.
On this particular Friday evening, the Olde Town Arvada harvest festival was kicking off, so there were plenty of folks milling about. However, I noticed that a few of the owners (all siblings, I believe) were present, but none were tending to the duties of managing the restaurant. Tables were left unbussed, no one was checking as to the filling of water glasses, tending to another round of beers, or the quality of the food.
The concept of the D Note still intrigues me, as an art space, a performance space, and an all out community hub for zumba, networking meetings, etc. However, in my book, as a restaurant and as a bar, it is going downhill, and I'm willing to consider other options in the Olde Town neighborhood for eats and drinks before settling in here to enjoy some good local talent.
EDIT: I emailed the management about my experience and have not received the courtesy of a response as of 9/16/10.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The D Note is one of our favorite places to go in our area. They have a ton of vegan options for pizza, including their home-made vegan cheese which is delish. They also have new pasta options now as well as gluten-free pizza crust. This is a great place for a date night or out with a bunch of friends. If you like live music check out their website for upcoming music.

Review from Holly G.
I have only been here to see my friends band play a few times. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have ever stumbled upon this place considering Arvada is kind of out of the way for me.
Lets just start off by saying that I am really frustrated with this whole "we are understaffed cause there is a recession going on, dude" attitude that a lot of restaurants I have been to lately seem to have. Just because it is a Tuesday night doesn't mean that people don't still want to eat and/or drink a beer. Or let alone, see their friend's band play.
I remember really enjoying the pizza the last time I went to the D-Note but on this visit I was not in the mood for pizza so that kind of set my night off to a bad note (ha!). There was only 1 wait person and 1 bar tender working on the night I went. It took forever to first get our table cleaned off, to order our drinks, to get our drinks, to order our food, to get our food. I just think that when my boyfriend has to go to the bar to just get some waters, is a pretty bad sign.
I just wish restaurants would understand that people still go out to eat, people still need jobs, people will not come back to a restaurants if it takes forever to order and for tables to be cleaned off, and bills to be even picked up, therefore it will lose customers. This was an email I sent to the restaurant and never heard back from them:
I saw no where on your website to contact or make comments. My boyfriend and I just left the restaurant. Trying to stay local to Arvada we popped in. We went in to an empty place, ok for a Sunday afternoon. Our waitress Deva came and asked what we wanted to drink-(ice tea and water-never re-filled). After asking what the specials were she left and went to the kitchen to find out (came back knowing the soup, we asked about the pizza. She left again to find out). I asked for a little more time to decide. We decided on the shrimp pizza with ricotta cheese and the beastie pie with a small caesar salad.
The salad took 20 minutes and was very, very small. The romaine leaves had brown tips and pizza parmesan for $4.75. Waitress came to take the plate, but didn't bother to ask if anything was ok when she seen the barely touched salad. Another 20 minutes later the pizza arrived. After 4 years in culinary school I couldn't even taste the "fresh" basil pesto. The shrimp was unseasoned and the pizza very bland. The beastie pie had sauce that tasted like it was tomato sauce and nothing more. I was very disappointed in the whole experience. The rest of the time we were eating our waitress never came by (even though she walked past us several times, her 3 dollar tip was not earned at all)! 3 other waitresses stood by chatting after setting up table.
I understand being family friendly but for a couple with no kids having them running around screaming with no shoes on while your trying to salvage a $30 lunch was a bit too much. Bland pizza, kids running around and music from the smurfs made for a horrible experience and nothing your website made the "concept" seem like.
A very disappointed customer -

The D-Note is owned by three brothers, who are varying degrees of goofy, silly, and wacky. Between them, they've managed to organize events galore for the D-Note- everything from Salsa nights to some of the oddest folk performances in Colorado to local garage bands rocking out on this cute little bar's stage. Something for everyone- just check the schedule beforehand, or you might find yourself listening to an accordionist strike up a lively polka when you were hoping for local indie rock.
During the day, you can find gourmet pizza by the slice or pie. I like feta cheese, like, a lot, so I can appreciate that! In fact, the Westword calls it the best gourmet pizza in Denver. You can also check out some cool local artists- the wall hangings are consistently pretty interesting.
Oddly enough, the D Note, though it is neither vegetarian nor a restaurant, also copped the Westword award for Best Vegetarian Restaurant. Huh? I trust the Westword, though, so I'm gonna have to stop by soon for another slice of that gourmet pizza- gotta have it if the Westword says so!
Of note: Jack White's former band, The Go, is playing tomorrow (August 10). -

I love the Dnote!! I consistly bring friends who later return on their own. The mix of organic hippy pizza and live music is addictive. Don't forget the wide variety of wines to enjoy with your pizza (there is also plenty of beer and a full bar).
The help staff will answer all your questions and they will be upfront with the fact that your pizza may take 20-30min to arrive (but it is well worth the wait!). I live for the Rockn in the Free World pie.
Music, music, music! If you get there before 7pm you may not have to pay a cover, but don't be surprised if someone does approach your table and ask for the cover. As other Yelpers reviewd, baby boogie and salsa will get you dancing.
The chocolate martini is deadly. Their dessert pies are works of art.
The bathroom is informative. -

This place is an undiscovered gem in a sea of generica.
I have never had bad service, and have been there over 7 times.
Let me clue you in on a key to enjoying your stay at the D-Note, possibly one of the best restaurants in Denver (ambiance, location, food, and entertainment all combined). Do NOT order "regular" pizza!
By that, I mean, do not order "a pepperoni pizza". Use the pre-existing "special creations" menu to choose from the eclectic selection there.
My personal fave is the Brick House (spicy!) - a combo of pepperoni, bacon, red peppers, bbq sauce and gouda...HEAVEN
The D-Note has a HUGE selection of amazing "house" pies, all named after music personalities, songs, and famous people. This would be lame if the pies weren't so good.
You never know what entertainment will be on deck any night, but it's always decent-to-outstanding...the owners are super friendly and will often be on-site hustling around.
I can't say enough about this place, PERFECT to take an out-of-towner someplace TOTALLY unique to Colorado. easy 5 stars -

Simply put this spot made me want to learn to Salsa.. Again. I've tried many many times in my life, but never stuck to it. But experiencing D-Note's Sunday Salsa inspired me to make it a goal next year; in 2008 I will learn to do that damn dance.
The club is a grand room with a stage and room for everyone to shake, dip, twist, switch and turn. Salsa and merengue poured out from the speakers, onto everyone's bodies. There are dancers of all levels present, from step on ya toe beginners to those that look suave steppin' on a roach. There's a bit for everyone to love here.
There were plenty of women around, and the drinks were poured fairly, not strong, but not watered down either. And coming from LA, I have to say they were at a fair price too.. The drinks, not the women. -

Actually I give them a three and a half. The venue is quite cool with live music every night. They feature local artists on the walls with great talent overall. Salsa night is amazing, as the place gets packed and people even trickle onto the sidewalks. Lessons are provided if you get there early enough.
Everyone raves about the pizza, maybe it's just too hippiesh for me. I need a good slice of NY style. They have Stone IPA on draft- huge bonus! Great service and super cool wait staff.
I've always been a fan of Old Town Arvada- cute shops and stores. I've done the dive bar across the street, once and only once. That was enough for me (It's the one that posts the sign Hippy parking out back). -
Review from Kent T.
Littleton, CO
Fairly unknown to those outside of Arvada, the D-Note is a decent music venue/bar in "Old Town Arvada".
At first glance, the place resembles a dance hall with chairs and table scattered about. But this is a perfect set-up, since the music stage is in the center and it's viewable throughout the entire place. A bar sits in the very back, but make no mistake, the music stage is the main attraction, here. The acoustics can vary depending on the band or act performing that night, but overall it's a great hangout for local music.
The D-note's location is worth notiing, as well. As mentioned, it's in "Old Town Arvada"-- a pleasant downtown area that resembles the main streets of old. Built on a hilltop, Old Town even overlooks a portion of the city. Longmont, Littleton and Fort Collins have similar areas, but frankly they're not as cool.
When you're getting some fresh air or out for a smoke, be sure to waddle over and check out the old train depot across the street. It beats other bars, where you can just stare at an alleyway.
Parking might be an issue...mostly parallel street parking (sucks for those with Chevy Tahoes). But there seemed to be a free public lot, located about two blocks to the west.
Nice place...you could take your friends, a date, or even some relatives (providing they like live music) and you'll score some Cool Points. -

Very good food especially the pizzas, unfortunately you can't come and eat here most nights without paying a cover for the band. If you want to see the band- then it's a great place.

I typically like to go to a place at least two times before the Yelp however in this case I am not sure if I will ever make it back. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't memorable either.
We went for a business function that was being held there. I came in and sat down at a table near the door as my co-worker hadn't arrived yet.
10 minutes I waited. I was thirsty. Just got off work. I was hungry also. No waitress. I saw her helping others.
Alas...my co-worker came in. I of course suggested we move to a more centrally located table. It still took a good five minutes before she came to drop off the menus and to ask what we wanted to drink. Overall service was pretty crappy. Mid way through our waitress asked us to close out our tab with her because the new waitress had come in and she was servicing her tables. It was a bit of a pain as we weren't finished with our order and now we had to track down a new waitress who wasn't any quicker than the old one.
The food was okay. Drinks were good. They had live music.

We found ourselves at the D Note's open mic night yesterday.
I like the venue itself with the local artist creations for sale on the walls, the slightly dark euroclub atmosphere, and environmental friendly cleaning practices.
The audio for the bands was all right, not superb. Some of the instrumental balances were a little messed-up, though I'm not sure if it's the acoustics of the building itself. The audio/announcer/dj was an energetic entertaining guy and I was pretty found of the music that played during set changes.
We ended up only ordering dessert and got the One Love pie. It was essentially pizza crust piled with dessert like fillings. I wasn't really a fan. There wasn't a good balance between the ricotta cheese and the apples and sauces. I just wasn't impressed. -

I'm now a fan of oldtown Arvada and a big fan of D-Note.
My first trip to D-note was to watch my friends band play. (Reverb and the Verse)
Props to the Great DJ as well.
I have to say I love the layout. The bar is easy to get to and there are lots of tables around to get a good seat around the stage.
I was wishing I didn't eat 10 lbs of pasta before I went because the food smelled really good.
However, I did enjoy a few glasses of their Cali Pinot.
The people here are very chill and friendly. It's one of those places that make you feel like you've been going to for years. -

I went here with a huge group of people and a gaggle of children for Baby Boogie on Sunday afternoon. It was great fun for the kids to get to jam out on the stage to an assortment of electronic guitars, xylophones and drums. And even better, adults got to hang out with out worrying about their children misbehaving or being too loud.
We ordered a bunch of different kinds of pizza, and as my sister observed that they put together some interesting combinations that you wouldn't think would work but totally do. Service was totally friendly too!
The place was packed! On a Sunday afternoon! So this option is obviously missing from the Denver dining scene. You'll just want to be sure you get there before the salsa dancing lessons later that night. -

My husband and I went to D Note on a whim after he ran into an acquaintance at the Olde Town Pickin' Parlor and found out his folk band would be playing that night. So we decided to wander around Old Town Arvada... that took about 10 minutes. After wasting more than enough time at the Army Surplus and Bliss (both just down the street), we headed over to D Note for some pizza and knee-slappin', foot-stompin' folk music.
Service was a tad slow, and our table started out gross but was then improved to wet and less gross once our server noticed it and wiped it down. The pizza was not bad -- tons of toppings and gooey cheese. The surroundings were nice, and the band was cool. The crowd was a very bizarre mix though. I don't know who schedules the bands, but they arranged a folk band to open for a Jerry Garcia tribute band. Am I the only one who finds that weird?? The blend of hippies and country bumpkins was better people watching than the airport!
All in all, I'd go back for more. Small venues are my favorite!Listed in: What's kickin' in Old Town…

The DNote is a pretty cool venue. Dropped in with friends for a Police cover band. The opening bands were sub-par, but our server was fantastic, and prices are reasonable. Cover was $10 and my Tanqueray Martini & a Draft Beer was under $10. Great evening for only $20!
Recommendations:
1) Get there early! They run out of tables quickly. Even though I wasn't diggin the opening bands, it was worth sitting through to have a table for the main show.
2) Take advantage of the drink special. Bartender has a nice pour at a good price.
3) Parking sucks. Wear your tennies and be prepared to walk a block or two. -

This place is a nice little hidden Olde Town Arvada gem. I have mainly been there for the open mic nights in support of a good friend, but each time has been great.
Wonderful artwork on the walls, decent selection of beers available, and the last time, good food. Platter of hummus was enough to feed a small army, the quesadilla was enjoyable and the pizzas look delicious. All very reasonably priced.
Atmosphere is very laid back & casual. Come to see some great talent & those upcoming here. -

I think their sign sums it up: Pizza, Live Music, Art.
The pizza is fannnntastic. They have very unique combos, so I can never decide what to get. Had a sandwich once that was pretty tasty, too, but nothing in comparison to the pizza. But be warned that if they say it's spicy, they mean it.
Great variety of bands, lots of local start-up types. I've seen some very young kids, and it's nice to see them have a place to get their start and have an audience.
The art is constantly changing, and there's some very cool stuff.
I love the big open space, and service is always pretty good considering that they usually only have 1 or 2 servers (when I've been there).
My only negative is that I find the prices a little high- no super cheap beers :( Where's my cheap PBR?? -

My favorite place for salsa dancing! Come with friends or alone at 8pm on Sunday. $8 gets you an hour long lesson and live music from Conjuntos Colores starting at 9. You'll be just fine if it's your first time, and you can pick up some new moves if you're beyond the basic step stuff.
The dance floor is spacious and nicely lit. And it's a great crowd --far fewer creepy dancing types than most places I've been for salsa. The only problem is, of course, Salsa is on Sunday night -- but I usually have so much fun that I forget all about those kinds of details. Come for dinner and stay for dancing! -

D-Note is a-ok. The stage is HUGE and they do get lots of different music in there....funk, hip hop, folk -- I do have a kid and have heard that the Sunday music thing is really cool - I haven't been yet.
The Pizza - well, people are picky about their pizza and the D-note isn't my favorite, but I REALLY like their beer selection - -Stone IPA on draft. I say go for the music - and the chill vibe. -

If you are looking for a place where you can bring your friends, your kids, your friends' kids, and your kids' friends to hang out and relax, then the DNote is it.
Like everything at this joint, the pizza is funky and creative, which is why purists are probably turned off. All I have to say is, if the pizza fairy granted me a lifetime supply of any pizza in town, I'd be fat and happy with a mountain of 'Brick Houses' from DNote. -

I've mostly visited the D-Note on the occasions when a good friend is playing open-mic night.
Great local music and talent can be found here, as mentioned above, during open-mic night, which I believe is Mondays at 6:30 PM. You may encounter some awfully preachy local singers, but hey, that's what you can expect during open-mics! God gave me the talent to sing and play guitar and I'm going to sing about it!
A relatively small selection of beers and wine, but there will be something there to please and whet your appetite. Cheap eats too!
Wide open room with interesting and changing art on the walls.
When I get up to Arvada, this is always a favorite.Listed in: Favorite Bars

Review from Ken K.
D Note is a live entertainment venue I stumbled upon at around 10pm on a weekday when I was put to the task of feeding 6 snarky people. That's no small feat in a town that shuts down after the last Matlock rerun. So I took a risk on D Note, having never been, and that bet paid off.
But here's the deal. This place isn't a restaurant and while it might have some bar genes, it's first and foremost a live entertainment venue. Unfortunately on the night we were there, it was catering to a segment of the population that enjoys sketch comics that suck. Every badly timed joke intruded on our conversation at nearly 100 decibels, creating an experience similar to being panhandled by a caffeinated Carrot Top with a megaphone.
But the food was good for what it was. Pizza, sandwiches, and salads are most of your options. I had a veggie quesadilla which was tasty, but only because it was impossible to screw up: you put cheese and vegetables in a tortilla and heat it. A gluten-free friend lucked out on gluten-free pizza, and a salad across the table looked delicious. By bar standards, the menu is gourmet and diverse.
So at last, I'm torn. While it didn't serve our purpose too well as a restaurant, I feel obliged to give D Note 4 stars because for what it is -- a live entertainment venue that serves booze and food -- it's darn good and I'd like to spend an evening here. Just on a night when they have someone else on stage. -
Review from Darika S.
What fancy pizza they have here. I had the special that day, a pineapple sauce with tofu and spinach. The crust is thin and crispy, not too cheesy with the right amount sauce. The pepperoni pizza was good too. Crispy 'ronis.
There is usually some music or event going on here. There aren't that many tables or seats at the bar. It's definitely not a quiet scene. I would go back for more of the entertainment and hopefully be able to get a table to enjoy their really good pizza. The hostess was not attentive, I think even ignoring us the last time. After asking how long for a table, I got an answer of 10 minutes or 2 hours, who knows?! Well that isn't helpful and quite a turnoff actually, so we went elsewhere. Not sure when I'll have the patience for the hostess again, may be have to do take out the next time I want tofu pizza. -

Cool music venue - not quite a "pizza joint". I enjoyed my time there. Will definitely go back.
