Went to DJ's on monday for the first time in over a year. And they are still some of the best Filipino food i've ever had. The fried rice, lechon, chicken, tocino....etc. Everything was soooo good.

Rankings 1-10 with 10 being the best

Location -    3 - It's kind of hidden away in a plaza, you can't see it from the street
Ambiance - 4 - It's nothing much to look at inside
    Service -      5 - Cafeteria style
    Selection -  6 - There's a good variety
Food -          6 - Tastes good, the best fried rice ever

Overall -       6 - A nice little stop for Filipino food

This place has REALLY gone down. I used to come to this location way back when it was a grocery store/merienda place (early 1990's), back when they had really good food and when they were the ONLY place in Panorama City to buy decent Filipino food. Now it's a shadow of its former self. I still like their beefsteak though, which is still probably the best- tasting beefsteak in the Valley. I will come here to buy food to go... maybe. I'd rather go to Manila Good- Ha! or Kalesa Grill, the food just tastes better.

Oh, and by the way, now they CHARGE you if you ask for a "to- go" box. WTF?

$3.99 Filipino breakfast with an entree, 2 eggs, fried rice, and unlimited coffee refills really makes me happy. Come early & enjoy the kasarapan (deliciousness) that is DJ's Filipino breakfast.

I used to rent a room in house, and the family-I-lived-with's kitchen was off limits. So after trying a few places around town, I settled on DJ's for being the most bang for my buck. To switch it up I ate at Yoshinoya Beef Bowl (can you tell what kind of budget i was on? lol) because DJ's food was really oily so I'd feel so greased up after eating here. I will say though, eventually they eased up on it, not as much oil anymore...

You can get a combo for about $5, and the sinigang goes great with your leftover rice. I like this place because parking is WAY easier than Kalesa Grill and I feel like it's quieter.

I don't live in the area anymore (the "no kitchen" situation was breaking the bank), but when I'm around I definitely hit this place up for my "home cooking" fix.

If you've been exposed to Filipino food before, you know what to expect. If you haven't, well... this is what you get and what I try to explain to most of my friends: there will usually be a lot of oil, and colors in food you're not used to.

With that said, and even thought its called DJ Bibingkahan "Restaurant" I still think of it as fast food cuisine (a waiter/waitress doesn't bring it out to your table). And with that in mind, I love this place.

I've had sinigang and beefsteak in other places, but this place usually gets, what I think the taste should be, just right. When you drink the soup and the last bit is a little bit more sour is always the best for me.

Anyways - price wise its going to be about $5 per double combination, and I always recommend sinigang, beefsteak, fried fish, kare-kare (with bagaoong) and the chocolate meat (you know). For the not so adventurous theres always lumpia.

If you're going for dessert, they have the halo halo and the fried banana, which is pretty good. If you want a serious halo halo, might want to go to Goldilocks in the market if its still open - its maybe a buck more expensive but a lot more goodies.

    EAT here. Try it out.

O ya - there's lots of parking. don't worry about it.

I grew up in this area.  My heart pumps rice and patis.  I sweat adobo, sinigang and cry tears of melon and calamansi.

But I haven't been to DJ's in sooooo long.  I went there religiously for as long as I can remember, then out of nowhere.. stopped and settled for anywhere close by my house.

Well, today, after dropping my cousin off somewhere in the East Valley, I decided to stop by an old staple.  Heck, it's nothing less of a landmark.

The selection was amazing.  Being older now, my palette has increased in range and deepened in scope.  I looked over all my old favorites--adobe, liempo, beefsteak.  Then, I glanced over the stuff I crave and live for now--kambing, tilapia, filipino veggies that I have no idea what to call.

I chose wisely... I stuck with my favorite dish, beefsteak... and went for the calderatang kambing.  Ordered a cup of melon juice to wash it all down.

$8.30.  What?!  Eight bucks?!  What happened to $4?!  Man.. they sure raised their prices.

But as I sat and glanced over my goat and beef.... I just kept thinking to myself... shoot, maybe I should get more rice.  Isang piso lang (only a bucks worth), nothing more.

I looked back and saw the line was nearly out the door... it was lunch after all.  So I declined and settled for my two scoops.

Oh wow, it was delightful.  My own personal soul food.  The beef was tender and you can taste the hint of calamansi.  The goat was spicy and juicy, not hard and gamey like other places.

I'd give this place 5 stars, but they raised the prices on me.  Oh, and now they have this weird passport office in the corner of the restaurant.

since i'm not Filipino, i have to go with the wife's assessment of the place.

WAS going to go to Goldilocks, but at the last minute, she wanted to try DJs.

i wasn't feeling all that well, so i just ordered a Mango Boba drink.  Turns out, they were OUT of the tapioca boba balls.  No biggie.  They said they could make me a shake instead.

A few moments later, i noticed the guy walking around with a pack of POWDERED mango stuff - to make my shake with.

This is Southern California...where it's perpetually sunny and 70+ degrees.  A Filipino joint CAN'T find mangos to keep in stock for a shake?

    wtf !?!

Anyway, the wife and son had some rice and stuff.  This one particular dish looks like it's been marinated in that pink Pepto Bismol stuff.

Sorry, i just can't hang with this.

Give me some decent adobo or some fried Talapia and i'm happy.

The wife says "Meh. I've had better.", so i guess it's hard to misinterpret this one.  They left about half the meal uneaten.

Food is really good. Also they make a pretty mean Halo Halo (They're my #2 place for Halo Halo after Goldilocks). Their chicken skewers and the Caldereta are the best thing on their menu in my opinion. The only real reason they don't get high stars is because their women's bathroom needs fixing. Everything was broken; the soap dispenser, the door, the paper towel holder...literally everything. I had to hold the door closed for my daughter to use the restroom. Other than that their food is good.

I've been a customer for the DJ Bibingkahan in West Covina. They provided a variety of different filipino food items fast food style. However, I am disappointed at the prepared food at this restaurant. You can definetely taste the clamari was overcooked. Also, the lechon kwali was overcooked and dry. The adobo pork and adobo chicken were too salty.

I do notice the lack of customers at this restaurant. I do questioned whether the cooks possibly changed based on Angela's review. Visited this site twice hoping the second visit would be a different story. Unfortunately, my opinion is unchanged. If you are in the area, I suggest going to Toto's Lechon Manok. Enough said.

i have been a patron of this restaurant since it humble beginnings in the yoshinoya shopping center.

i've ALWAYS raved about their kaldereta!

ive gone back after about a year. imagine my disappoint when i found out my FAVORITE kalderata is not the same. i imagine theyre under new ownership because the quality of their food... well.. is just not the same.

anyway, i will always remember the good days.

I've been coming here since I was a kid, and so far, it's my favorite out of all the Filipino restaurants here in the valley.  There is a good selection of Filipino food, and the prices are very reasonable. I find it amusing that I see a lot of non-Filipinos eat here. That must mean it's good, right? My absolute favorite is their bistek (beef steak). I hardly eat meat, but I would eat this every day if I could. Good thing I don't, otherwise, I'd probably have a heart attack.

I love this place, for around $5 you get a 2 combination entree. There are a huge variety of food to select. This is much better than going to fast food restaurant. I've tried many different dishes and all of them are good. Great deal and good food!

I used to eat at DJ's all the time. Long, long ago they used to be the only Filipino fast food restaurant along Pinoy Ave (aka Woodman and Roscoe). They even used to be the only Filipino grocery store in that area. Then of course Island Pacific came and took their business out. Haven't been in awhile but it used to always be good. I love DJ's. It was a staple while going to SG.

i've been going to this joint even back when it was on Roscoe/Woodman corner. the food is still good when u want a bit of homestyle filipino. i crave their Kare Kare when they have it. and the Ginataan is great when it's available. cleanliness could use a little work and they should bus tables more often. other than that, i think it's still a decent standard to go to in the Valley.

Wow-  this place has REALLY went through some changes over the years.  I am an old timer, I remember when the current location was a grocery, and had the cool dude out front selling grilled chicken on a stick, (that he was grilling right there)....  whoa those were the days.  And the restaurant was up the street at the strip mall (corner of Woodman and Roscoe).  That place was my FAV Filipino restaurant back in the day.  They had a freaking monopoly back then.  Then Kalesa Grill opened up in the strip mall next door to the restaurant, and there went the Filipino loyalty.  GONE.  Like a bomb went off.  Not a soul was at DJ's anymore.  I suppose all things change, that is a granted.  But man it was FAST.  Then the HUGE Filipino super market opened up in the same center as their little grocery store.  More bad luck for these guys.  Well, to make a long story short they survived in a tough world.  The food was always good, seemed fresher than most, and was cheapo.  I should go again, and give it a fresh review.  I would try it for sure, just to see.
