Neighborhood: Rittenhouse SquareWell, where to begin... the coat check Nazi or not being greeted at the table to the point where we walk out.
I love Italian food and I enjoy the atmosphere of a family run establishment, however this overpriced rat trap does not do it for me.
1-they force you to check your coat... which was on the back of my chair not bothering ANYONE or taking up god forbid another bar stool
2-$2 fee for every checked coat
3-way overpriced for the slop that they offer
4-they get ice for cocktails by ramming the glass into the ice bin(major hazard-I do not enjoy swallowing glass shards that came from the last persons glass)
5-for cocktails they do not give new glassware...so that means and I have seen many times....they dump the glassware contents out in the trash and then again stick the dirty glass in the ice bin to refill with ice. This means that my lips and who knows what else are grazing your ice. Don't worry this is common practice!
6-they have a cat that lives in the restaurant...next time you see fur in your spaghetti... don't fear it...it's a family pet.
7-the kitchen is filthy dirty
8-most of the servers do not speak english
9-the food is overpriced
10-the food is terrible
After reading this, one might think I am high maintenance..however I am not, I'm just telling it how it is and I am actually more lenient to family owned establishments.

We were here for a rehearsal dinner and I was definitely impressed. From the cheesy stuffed mushrooms, to the canneloni, and chicken marsala, everything was superb! There's a bar upstairs and downstairs and there's even a dance floor with a DJ in a separate room. Despite our large party of about 50, the waitstaff were friendly and responsive and never left a wine glass empty for very long.

Not your every day American Italian place.
D'angelo's Ristorante and Lounge have been a favorite of mine for years now. Walking into the bar you'll be warmly welcomed by a beautiful bar, a lovely staircase and a magnificent staff! Truly you feel the Italian hospitality at it's best!
Owned and operated by the D'angelo family...the food stays true to it's Southern Italian roots. The menu offers a great selection of everything from antipasta to an amazing selection of Veal! I am a huge fan of the Broccoli Rabe...it comes with Sicilian sausage that's to die for! They have a great wine selection just an all around crowd pleaser.
Oh....and the best part is...late nights, after you've dined to your tummy's content...you can go downstairs to the lounge for a dance or two! With a live DJ and a diverse range of tunes you'll get the best dance hits of today and yesterday. I love it...it's a great date night!

i think it's pretty hard to screw up italian food. seriously. and this place didn't screw it up. it's pretty good. it reminds me of these old italian mafioso places back in chicago. the pasta? tasty but too greasy. the wines were too pricey.
but the cool part? on the weekends, the place turns into a danceclub, that plays a fun selection of 80's and somehow dance-able music. bring your own friends...unless if you like the 40-somethings with pompadours.

i love this place. ...great neighborhood place that's a block away from me. i stop there all the time to get some take-out, but the best time is sitting outside when it's nice, grabbing some wine and food, then grabbing a drink in the lounge afterwards.
everybody inside is extremely friendly. i was there the other day and someone inside had me try their clam casino antipasta while i was waiting for my meal. now, i'm going to have to order clams casino everytime i go there--you've got to try them!
