I live only a couple of miles from this bakery, which can be quite dangerous. I have sampled a variety of deserts from D'Amici's and the standouts are the carrot cake slices, the cannoli (available in at least three flavors) and best of all, the lemon meringue pie. The pie is quite impressive to look at (holy meringue peaks!) and it's super yummy as well.
Most recently I ordered a birthday cake from D'Amici's. I used their online order form which was very easy. I received a phone call the next day to confirm my order and special instructions. The cake was ready when requested and was a big hit at the party, both for the design and the taste (vanilla cake with strawberries in the middle). I would definitely go to them again for a cake for a special occasion. But if you need a standard cake, they generally have some ready to go in the case and can add whatever you want written on it.
They are open until 8pm, which is great for picking up some bread for dinner or an after dinner snack. Or you could pick up dinner there as well, as they offer a small selection of sandwiches and hot meals.
This local bakery rivals any pastry shop in Boston's North End. D'amici's has a wide assortment of specialty cakes, cookies, and pastries that make the young kids squeal with delight. The cannoli's are filled to order and have a hint of lemon running through the ricotta. The best part is that every large cake (such as an Italian Rum Cake) comes in a single serving slice as well. Whether you live alone or have a huge family this bakery is worth a visit.
Note: Prepared Italian dinners, subs, and even Pizza can also be picked up at the side counter!
