This will be my first review, but many more swap meet reviews are in the works. I like to consider myself a connoisseur of swap meets/flea markets and thrift stores...so expect me to enjoy digging through junk to find solid items.

I read the majority of previous reviews until I could take no more. I will explain this simply, first 4-5 rows from the street are mainly new items with the occasional "junk" item seller. If you come here for new items, you're probably of a different breed and shouldn't expect to be wowed. Just go to an indoor swap meet and it should meet your exact needs.

Now back to the real gold. Best rows are at the very end, furthest away from Valley View. I would say the 7-9 rows from there are the best ones to find great "junk". If you aren't embarrassed, I would recommend taking a scooter and skimming through every row until you get used to where everything is at. I also recommend getting to know your favorite sellers, many are very nice people and will give you considerable discounts that they wouldn't give other customers...did I mention, free entrance, free parking??

Times to come...while you COULD find great deals extremely early, I have never gone earlier than 8:00 and found great items consistently. Actually, I recommend going at 8:30-9:00a because sellers raffle for empty spots and are allowed to setup at 8:30 the earliest, so showing up earlier would cause you to miss all these raffle sellers.

I will say, I do not go for furniture, new items at new item prices, I do not go for jewelry (although there is tons here), and I do not go for the food. When I arrive, I'm strictly business with my tastes which include, electronics, vintage sunglasses and frames, old video games, cameras, records, and hats amongst other things. Majority of things I get are used and are deeply discounted. For example, I got some Vuarnet sunglasses for $2 dollars, some Technics DJ headphones for $5, and an authentic G-Shock for $9...because I didn't have the $10 he wanted. Of course many took some digging around, but for the most part you don't have to dig THAT deep. I always leave comics, books and used high end electronics behind...but there are plenty for the picking.

A couple other things I heard other Yelpers mention that I recommend as well, pee/take a dump before you go...or be prepared to risk wet drawls, come alone if you can because you do not want to be rushed here (it will take 3-4 hours minimum the first few times), realize this is many people's living so sometimes they will drive a hard bargain, and bring a backpack or some sort of way to carry the many items you may find.

LAST but not LEAST, go more than once! There are weeks where I find nothing, while they are far and few between...they do occur, and it can very well be the reason many people come on here and complain right away. Happy diggin'.

Wonderful place to take the whole family to shop, eat and take a nice walk. Great bargains and I do recommend to come early to get first dibs on items. I've been coming here since I was issued a drivers license about 10 years ago and became my family's weekly visit. I'm a Cypress Swap Meet Veteran! I found a set of 4 plates from Poland for $3 and found it was worth about $100 each on ebay. A vintage Nintendo system still new in its box from the 1980's worth thousands I managed to bargain down to $35. Like I said, come early. But if you do get there late, once in a while certain vendors would rather give their items away for FREE rather than having to load them back in their trucks.

I'm only going to spend a few moments here reviewing the actual swapmeet, which really deserves one measly star, but gets one more because of the aftermath. Let me explain.

This swapmeet. Cool junk? Sure, if you look hard enough. Good deals? On things you will never, EVER need. Worth going to? Not really. Seriously. Not.
The vendors are rude and it's not a pleasant experience at all. Especially walking around on asphalt when it's blazin' hot and your snow cone is such a hard chunk of ice that you can't even eat it. Then you make the mistake of seeing some cool sunglasses out of the corner of your eye, and all of the sudden your once harder-than-a-motherfucking-diamond of a snowcone is dripping down your hand and the juices taste like syrup mixed with dirt, sun-tan lotion, and SHIT. Awesome.

But here's where the vendors redeem themselves. Every Saturday and Sunday, at 5pm, when everyone has to high-tail their ass out of there, they manage to leave a lot of their brand new stuff.
Now, I'm no trash-picker, Yelpers, but I've gone over at about 5:15 with friends before and have brought back a lot of cool shit, obviously for free, because vendors leave them behind.

We accumulated things like these very quickly:
+ A collection of clean, playable records (Beatles, Monkees, Billy Joel, Sinatra) with fairly good condition covers/art.
+ A new pair of shoes (that actually happened to be my size) still in the shoe box with all the tissue paper and everything.
+ A huge blow-up raft still in its box that I've used in my pool that can hold up to 350lbs; no holes in it or anything.
+ A bag of buttons with funny sayings (ex: one says "I got the feeling in San Jose")
+ Lots of blow-up dolls and toys that weren't blown up yet. 20 year olds + blow up weapons = fun.
+ A used Nintendo DS game that's fully functional.

All for free and only like 20 minutes of our time? I'm in!

Seriously, you can find decent things if you go after everyone leaves and before the gypsies get there.
    Damn gypsies.

    Free to get in.

My favorites are: the guy who makes his own studded bracelets and belts. I got a studded bracelet for only $2 or $3!  well made.  they sell those at hot topic for around $15!  Anyone know if he is still there? I can never find him.

Another awesome deal: $85 for a huge 3 story metal bird/chinchilla cage with a stand!!!  well made. CHEAP  ..those are like $300-$500 at the pet stores for a metal one that well made!!!! for $85 all you are getting at petco is a one story crappy plastic cage...screw that....come here for a well made huge cage for wayyyyyy CHEAP!!! they have different colors.  I came the next day so I could get a black one. bring a truck for this one.
everything else is swapmeet stuff...even garage stuff on one side.

Entrance is free, parking is free, but my time is not.
I venture in to these swap meets with an open mind but there is no way to cover up the fact that this place is not worth going to.
It was fairly easy to hop over after school to take a look around but from what I saw, mainly junk and garbage (literally) make up the swap meet.
I'd say skip the swap meet but stop for the churros; that explains the extra star (they're THAT good!).

This place is just dirty. Feels like I'm going to catch an eradicated disease. Good thing I'm immunized.

Lots of vendors selling the same things. Very little selling things worth getting like vintage stuff or homemade stuff like that guy that was selling incense. Just a bunch of junk and toiletries.

    Garbage.

    Need I go on?  OK.

About five years ago the Cypress Swap Meet still had some decent venders.  Unique furniture, working cameras and electronics, a large variety of used books, records, CDs, and movies.  Yes, it was still mostly junk, but it wasn't too difficult to find a gem here.

Now?  Half of the vendors seem to sell the lowest possible quality "new" items - stuff you can easily get at the 99 cent store.  Be sure to pick up a plastic whistle here so your little kid can annoy the rest of us.  You'll also find tons of filthy, used power tools, hammers and wrenches.  This is not a bad thing, but it does not strike my fancy.  Hardly any books, magazines, rare movies, or collectibles/antiques.

Now, perhaps I got there too late in the day, but it seems to me that the quality of goods here is way down, and fewer than half of the vendors are selling their own merchandise.  It's easy for me to say it sucks because I didn't find anything I liked but based on some other reviews here I can tell I'm not alone on this.

Majority of the Elite Reviewers said it the best in their reviews. This place sells a lot of filthy "new products" that can pretty much be sold on any garage sale in your local neighborhood.

That was the thing, it's like an open air collections of garage sale on every booth. It's filled with many bargain basement items that needed to be move and a swap meet like this can attract the bottom feeders who are looking for anything cheap.

I have a feeling that a lot of the so called retailers or manufacturers are just selling unsold overstock items here by slashing the prices for 10 cents on the dollar for things like clothing, accessory items, bathroom and kitchen items, and bedroom stuffs that are very low end. The good stuffs are still marked at a price that you can get it cheaper elsewhere, especially on EBay.

it's not just the things that are sold here that are turn-offs. It's also the "bottom-feeders" that comes here to search for their elusive bargain. it's one thing to know the price, it's another to come here with pushy and snooty attitude in thinking you know how to bargain the price down.

Not everything are sold for a buck yo! It's great you can get the cost down for yourself, but it's another thing to be acting like a brat.

In all reality, this is not a great place to search for anything worthwhile or a paradise for bargains. It is a free admission, but I pretty sure you can shop elsewhere and get the same price....like in a garage sale.

My suggestion is to go to Santa Fe Spring's swap meet for better variety of shopping options where the vendors of much better goods are located at.
    ---------

Look out for the booths at a parking lot at Cypress College during the weekends. You can't miss it whenever you drive by.

Came here for the first time this past Sunday and first impression was "SHITTY STUFF".. I mean who need rows and rows of cheap "new" home furnishing, used crappy home furnishing, clothing, tires and socks, chonnies and discounted home supplies (cleaning stuff) and knock of designer perfume and shitty makeup.. I was over it.. Yet, this place was packed full of people buying shit. Tasteless I summed it up to. Then I saw the vegetable stands. Fresh nopales (cactus), and fruit and veggies less than going to a farmers market!!! We loaded up on stuff for dinner plus those tasty Mexican candy.

We roamed the aisles hoping to find a vendor selling vintage items but nada. Until we hit the last row towards the back.. I saw tables of junk and jewelry. My eyes lit up! I found the best vintage pill case, vintage makeup powder compact (sans the powder) and a vintage necklace with a clock. No, it's not Flavor Flav status. Everything was under $10. Now, I would of spent far more than that on eBay or any other vintage boutique. Oh and a vanity mirror tray. I walked out happy. The last row is a good one. I wouldn't come out of my way for this swap meet. It's like a bad garage sell meets some hidden treasures slash a crappy indoor swap meet... But, you gotta keep positive. Treasures are never found just laying around!

Highlights: Free parking - End row of rad junk - Fresh veggies - Mexican candy!

I have been to this swap meet a few times, and I enjoy going to it. There are a lot of brand- new items that are for sale at very low prices. I enjoy buying the 30 for $1 incense sticks, and you get to pick out any 30 you want. I also go here to buy $1 hair clips, they are the sturdy kind that don't break or go weak. I really enjoy going to this swap meet. I like to buy stuff I can get at a dollar store, and not have to pay for sales tax. Yay!  One thing that sucks about this swap meet is the parking. You might have to end up parking waaaay across campus, and lugging a bunch of stuff isn't fun.
    Happy Shopping!

if you go towards the back (its the part not facing the street) that part definatly looks like garbage and junk but towards the street is the less junky looking area i found a good tv practically new for $12 also alot of cute skirts and fishnet gloves for $1in hottopic those things are like $8 to $15
the food is awesome churros are a must the popcicles are pretty good have the shaved ice try the nachos at the stand. However theres some booths that sell food there i started to make a habit to go every weekend er dont buy the food in the big brown boxes there in the same spot every weekend who knows how long they been sitting there.
But ive manage to find some cool stuff including a giant pikachu backpack for only $8 if you look around you can find things you like.
Plus its free aswell as parking.
However there is one place i like to complain about (if your into baseball cards or pokemon or yugioh or pogs read this)
this one booth that has a grey tarp sells a bunch of collector cards if you want to buy something the guys working there are to busy playing yugioh cards with kids or trying to trade that they wont pay attention to customers actually trying to buy something you have to practically shout to get there attention and kids will try to shove you aside if your looking at something.
Aside from that i love coming here might go this sunday.

Ugh, I was really excited to try this place b/c I heard good things... but really, it was nothing spectacular and nothing worth waking up at 8am on a Sunday morning for!

Lots of garbage... broken trinkets, forever 21 reject clothing, fake chivas gear and discontinued shampoo and conditioners. The place in itself is pretty big, lots of aisles, lots of booths... but what good is a booth of junk?

Randomly, you'll find something worth stopping for. On my agenda... vintage type jewerly. I was able to get a bracelet and a ring all for the price of $2 - but to be completely honest, it wasn't worth the traffic getting in and out of the place.

If you're looking for something of quality (clothes / accessories / furniture) just hold out for the Rose Bowl. You're definitely not going to find it here... or if you do decide to go, try a churro. They looked delicious!!!

I'll expand a lot on this review later, but I just wanted to say I LOVE this swap meet.  Like 15,000 garage sales compressed into a few large parking lots.

A lot of the stuff is really sketchy.  One of my first times here, we found some dude selling Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's stolen bass/guitar heads/cabinets.  He had no idea what they were and they were all printed with the BRMC logo on the sides/tops.  He was going to sell us all of them for like $250 or something insanely cheap, but CASH ONLY of course.  None of us were carrying that kind of cash on us or a way of getting them home so we had to keep walking.

You can also find the usual assortment of fake Louis Vuitton fanny packs, cool Metallica/Misfits/Brujeria garb, used bikes, mattresses, Mickey Mouse trinkets, Mexican candy, Skechers, hot dogs and sno-cones, used (presumably stolen) dvd collections, etc.  Thousands and thousands of old records as well.

A little bit out of the way but it's free and the parking is free too so it's a nice place to kill some time on a weekend.

So my coworker goes here EVERY weekend and she always finds incredible deals here (I'm going on her word on this).  I went here one day and all there was was trash... really.  So I'm thinking... what the heck?!  How is it possible that every weekend, she can find stuff and I can't see a single worthwhile item?

Well, I'm thinking the secret is to come here extra early.  I got here close to noon... by then, all the good stuff is gone.  She gets here as soon as it opens.  So I'll be stopping by here again, bright and early and I'll let you know what I find.

Oh, so the items you can find here range drastically.  Of course, produce but you can also find clothes, drug store items, collectibles, furniture, jewelry, electronics, etc.  I'm thinking some items are stolen but most are purchased from auctions and wholesalers.

This a classic " y una personas de basura es otro tesoro de las personas" swap meet.

One persons trash is another persons treasure.

It's as if everyone just dumped their garage into the parking lot at Cypress college and put "se vende" on it.  Tools, trash, trinkets, womens fancy schmancy undergarments, you name it.  I like it for the cheap used tools.  Why go to Home Depot or Harbor Freight?  A set of mis-matched golf clubs?  Vinyl LP record of the sound track for the movie FM?  500,000 BTU burners for cooking who knows what?  I saw this and so much more.  I even bought a pound of fresh roasted, moldy peanuts that tasted good until I bit into a real gnarly one.  Orange County Fairgrounds Marketplace this ain't.

Good place to go once in a while to find treasures you didn't know you needed.  On top of that, the vendors don't laugh at me when I throw down my spanglish.  Instead they say "Qué onda güero?   You grew up in Santa Ana, no?"

Man, it sucks that it had to come to this... I gave this place a 3-star rating at first... but I am now FORCED to give you the "real" about this swapmeet!

I would give this swapmeet 3-stars still, if it was not for the majority of the VENDORS! The people that sell items at this swapmeet are so freakin RUDE & Non-negotiable ...but more so RUDE!
(Which reminds me, everyone PLEASE steer clear of one of the rudest witches at this location-- she only comes on Sundays, is located on the 2nd row from Valley View St, her booth is right by parking spot 'B 35' which is literally next to the person selling washers & dryers, and she sells jewelry & clothes for an obscene amount of money as if she's selling to people on Rodeo Drive versus a swapmeet...Anyway, she's a major b*tch who told me that I could not touch her items unless I bought something from her! The f***ked up thing about it is there were other people touching her stuff that were 'her race' & she did not tell them the same thing she told me! What a racist fool! This is why I like Yelp, because I can provide people with this information so that they do NOT end up falling victim to her ignorance! Again, she's NEXT TO spot B 35 which is a parking spot number--(the numbers/letters are on the ground for identification).  ........................ .Another vendor (a couple/man & woman with bratty kids) are also another example of why people should avoid this swapmeet= on 11/6/10 they were in location "Z18" near the end of the swapmeet near some houses & parkling lot.. they are extremely rude, racist, & will not take your money to pay for the items- HOW STUPID IS THAT! I can also tell they find their items in garbage can & try to re-sell them for ridiculous prices... the same goes for the guys (especially one man) that comes on Sunday's and i located in spots Z-17-Z-19= he digs and finds items in garbage cans & then brings it to the swapmeet to sel for $10 an item! So PATHETIC!  .................There's another vendor that is a major d**k that everyone should take note of= he's located in the middle of the swapmeet in spot F-32 and he also sets up shop in spot D-42... he sells cheap kid-made sports purses & has a yellow, sometimes blue or orange tent covering his booth).

I believe that the Cypress Swapmeet would progress if the swapmeet screened who they let be vendors!!!
I have encountered the most rude, inconsiderate, ignorant, racist vendors at this swapmeet...it's ridiculous!!!
(Don't get me wrong... there have been about 3 or 4 vendors that have been soooo incredibly nice & sweet) However, 90% of the vendors at this swapmeet are complete & total @ssho!es.

Yeah, going to the mall is more expensive then a swapmeet... but if you want good customer service & don't want to deal with ignorant people.. then Do NOT go to this swapmeet! TRUST ME

It all depends what you are looking for.  Thank God He sent me to CS.  Since I was laid off last year, I've been selling vintage clothing and such on the bay.

I made friends with a few vendors and usually get first dibs on the clothing.  I usually get original GNR, Metallica and other rock shirts.  I have found a handful of Big E's, Gab shirts, WWII gear and many older Nike Air Jordan's.

So stay away from my spot or I'm gonna have to drop kick yo ass!

I haven't been to a swap meet in probably more than a decade. I decided to check out a few just to avoid dealing with eBay. I'm looking for something very specific and basically covered the whole meet in about an hour.
During that hour, these thoughts ran through my mind:
    1) There sure are a lot of people coughing.
    2) I wonder how much lead paint is in the "Hello Kittie" and "Dorah" knock-off toys.
    3) Damn, there's a lot of bras on sale.
    4) Are those Pork Rinds homemade and are they really from a pig?
    5) The lower half anatomy mannequins are bootylicious.
    6) If I buy anything from this guy am I enabling him to continue his meth addiction?
    7) People gotta make a living.
    8) Lot's of video games for sale. Too bad they probably only play on GameCast.
    9) I wish I paid attention in Spanish Class.
    10) Crap.
    11) More crap.
    12) and still more crap.
If you are looking for tools, knick knacks and some cheap clothing, I guess this is the place for you to look. I'm glad it didn't cost anything.

To me this place has still some good treasures  around, the trick to this place is that you need to  take the time to walk slowly, look around and be very patient.

I love this place, every sunday is a new adventure for me, I always leave carrying a plastic bag with great things inside, last week I found a couple of brand new leather bags for only 5$  I took home 4 of them and it doesn't end there I found a purple jacket by Michael Kors for 10$, yes there is lots and lots of garbage that you might stop and look at and wonder, "life is getting so expensive than even trash has a price"

I encourage you to go and look for something great.
    if you search you'll find.

how else would you want to spend your weekend morning?  sifting through someone elses junk to stumble upon a treasure... priceless.

I'll visit this place about once a month now. It's awesome a little "cluttered" and I gave minus star because of the smoking and there's no room for smokers in such a tight/tiny place. I saw a smoker accidentally burn a hole in someone's jacket. He also happened to be browsing a clothes stall. Imagine it going up in flames? Can we not get some security to enforce CA laws?

This place is great well at least 50% the 50% that's good is considered the "junk" area. Where it looks like a junkyard/yard sale.

That place is a gold mine! Learn to haggle and bring a phone for googling products.

I just bought 10 first and 2nd gen tamagotchi pets for $21 all together! And I've already sold 2 on ebay for $20 each. Where did I find it? In the "junk" everyone whines about.

I was also able to get my girlfiend a nice Kodak brownie camcorder II for $7 they're usually $15.

Her father went with us and spotted an old Swatch Watch. He bought it for $5 ended up being an Olympic collector's edition and was worth at least $20 (it's as high as $60).

Also found some comics that would be worth $10 each but they wanted like $1-$5 for them. Wasn't worth it for me I'm not such the comic book freak.

Also a pretty good place for a film student to get props. Tons of broken junk/clothes to use in movies.

I even saw a $50 violin in great condition. Someone got that quick.

    Some tips when you go
    1. Go when it opens otherwise you shouldn't plan on finding anything worthwhile.
    2. Pee before you go unless you want to stand in a long line.
    3. Learn how to properly haggle. If they want $10 start at $5. Meet them midway and if you don't get your price don't buy it. Chances are someone else probably has the same junk.
    4. Don't be OCD. Bring some wipes for your hand because you will get dirty.
    5. Learn to appreciate. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
    6. Sometimes you don't find anything.
    7. Go with people who don't rush you. Don't bring little kids.
    8. Bring a portable basket (it helps if you end up finding something awesome.)
    9. Don't leave basket unattended (someone may try to buy it off the nearest vendor. That vendor may actually try to sell it to them.)
    10. Don't be offended.
    11. Learn numbers in spanish or bring a pen and paper. Everyone can read numbers.
    12. Bulk is best. If you like one item chances are there's something else you like. They love giving "combo special".
    13. Try to keep in mind you're going for something good. Not something you find at Costco or the 99 cent store.
    14. Be picky with your money because you have a lot to go through.
    15. Don't be afraid to hide what you like deep under a pile so no one else gets it, if you want to come back to it later.
    16. Take at least 3-4 hours to get through. And that's if you're just skimming with a few deep searches.

I like this place, but I have been here prob. 50 times.  Boy o boy have i scored!!!!!!!!!!!  One of the biggest... my friend bought a 12,000.00 Maximizer (MAC) tool box for 600.00. I have went from a 34 y/o with ol hand me downs lining my home to a 40 y/o with cool tools, kit. appliances, beautiful plants, outdoor everything, teak tables, beauliful pots, antique everything, cell phone chg. for $4 and just neato burrito stuff.  There is a secret. I will tell cause I am slowed down. Shop the outer perimiter. 1stt 5 rows or so from baseball side then last 3 rows from valleyview side. and a few inbetween. Thats where the resale stuff is.  I don't like the commercial type spots...NO If you go to swapmeets reg. ou know that evertime is different!!!Alot of resale gus here get there stuff from storage units!!! YES THATS BAD BUT SOMEONE IS GOING TO BUY IT. When fees are not paid units are sold to these swapmeeters, who mostly dont know what they are bidding on (NO PEEKY), so lots of times if you go b4 say 10 you find great stuff that people intended to keep. not so junkie, along with the grandpas old shed. I do feel bad rummaging through peoples stuff that have personal items ie:famil pics, cd collections, personal collections of a life of a fav. hobbie!!! But I know if i don't get it someoneelse will.  I pay my bills!!! I have found everything!!! redbull mini fridge for my BR, Fountains and carts, tools galore, the one thing you need. like the mixing bowl that broke.  I don't do it all but you might like the newgood vendors. i dont. ( I bought soap b4 that smelt like rotten old spice, and was suppose to be dove fresh! YUK! anywho. If you like to rummage when nothing else to do...you may enjoy a few hrs here.  FYI bring a cart or wagon..I have walked out empty but 9/10 thank god for cart (or wagon).  ps if you dont like to get up early but still want to go...GO...Some of the REGULARS..with good stuff overprice  until later, so if it is not a one of a kind you can still get a deal. Plus parking spaces open up perfect timing...Have fun an bargain.. FRIENDS WELCOME..I am new at this..Thanks
