Cute, cute place.  Stayed here for one night back in 2007 and I was impressed, because I've always been hesitant to stay at a B&B.  I think what I loved best about my room was the balcony, because I was so close to the beach.  If I looked down, it was the one or two lane road, then the sand, then the water.  I loved the jets in the huge tub, although out of courtesy for other guests possibly in the room below me, I couldn't enjoy it past a certain time.  It was nice that I was able to soak in the tub while watching the NLCS on TV.

Comfy bed, small but impressive bathroom.  The food I liked best was the yummy eggs benedict I had before checking out, and it's nice that I had the option of bringing food back into my room, but I didn't feel like carrying a tray of food across the street from the main house back to where my room was like I did the night before.

Nice and quaint, check it out.

I stayed at the Cypress Inn for three days last week for work. We had two rooms upstairs in the main building. The Naples & Venice rooms. They were nice. They seemed a lot nicer the first day rather than the third. The decor is really cheesy and gets uglier every second. [The photos on here are awfully flattering]. The beds were really comfortable, which is a big plus. It's right on the beach, which would be difficult to find a place in Half Moon Bay that isn't.. So don't let that sway your decision.

The guy who runs it most of the time, Jack, was extremely accommodating. So so helpful. Above and beyond. The food was decent. Snacks, wine, and dessert every day - free with stay since it is a bed and breakfast. Sadly I couldn't drink any of the wine since I was working, but it looked pretty good. I ate a couple of meals there. Everything is microwaved which creeps me out. Um, I could go my whole life without ever seeing another chicken apple sausage and it would be too soon. They serve it with everything. The only thing that I ate there that was above average were the croissants. As people have already said on here, they are delicious! Worth repeating though.

The free wi-fi didn't work the entire time we were there. Lame. Each time I inquired it was some new excuse. The walls are paper thin. I awoke one night to some newlyweds having, what sounded like, some pretty enjoyable sex. Good for them. I was tired though. I mean obviously people are going to get it on there... it's a bed and breakfast on the beach... this place would probably be romantic to some. So come on, sound proof that shit.

If I go back it would only be for one night because it is pretty cheap and Half Moon Bay is a nice little retreat from San Francisco, or for work again. More than one day/night it really loses all possible charm.

Stayed a short while back with a friend, lots of work going on in the place.   I'm giving it 4 stars versus 3 assuming the fixes they promised actually arrived.    The location is wonderful if you're in the mood to get away.    The main building was charming if not a bit too 80's; but that was going away with the moderenization.   We stayed on the top floor (Las Nubes) that had sweeping views didn't really want to leave!    The furnishings were sparse; fror instance we didn't have a couch in our room which was a suite, but we made do.  (this was part of the promised improvements)

The staff was very nice, it was good to meet the other guests but not feel like your staying at grandma's place.

We intend to go back and make it our half moon hideaway.

Things were really awesome here.  And then there were one or two things that really changed the mood.

We ended up in a swanky top floor room, that sat about 20 to 30 meters from the shore.  You could really hear the waves crashing even from that distance well into the late night. The room came equipped with an extra small, but sexy tub for hootchie making and a wall covered in mirrors for your own porno.  If you were good at editing, the large LCD tv (with cable) would be a great tool to view your work.

The one thing that really changed everything, was that our gigantic bed consisted of two mattresses pushed together.  So about halfway through the night, the mattresses ended up separating and we would both find ourselves on top of each other.

That was cool and all; except at that depth, you couldn't move a leg or an arm to do anything. Once I was in, I had a hard time getting out.

The breakfast was all well intentioned, but it could have been more robust.  The freshly made smoothies were super sweet, and I could have had more of that.

Great service, along with ok food.

Sadly for the price, the rooms really suck. It felt like a Motel 6; old and run down. Furniture was cheap and some of it was stained, some windows wouldn't fully close or lock (it was raining outside), fireplace was a joke, I can go on... I should have booked something like a Sofitel instead. (The pictures are somewhat misleading unless you can book that specific room.)

Other places in Half moon bay are better.

We booked the Point Montara room with a partial ocean view; it was more like 'no ocean' view at all. With the excessive tree branches that blocked our view from our balcony, it was pretty much a 'you could've seen this view" type of glimpse. We have stayed at the Inn at Depot Hill in Capitola and the Cypress falls short of the decor and amenities. Cypress Inn's god awful drapes were an eyesore. Looked more or less like Motel 6.

The room and the bathroom felt small so the pictures on their website are very deceiving. Although the feather queen bed was nice and fluffy. The TV was a joke. The fireplace was meh. We couldn't even feel the heat because it was barricaded with a plastic screen. So we ended up not using it after the first night. It defeated the purpose of having it on; unlike our room at the Inn at Depot Hill, we felt the heat from our psuedo-fireplace.

I don't think I'd want to come back and stay here again. It seems like there are other bed and breakfast places that are worthy than this inn. Aside from steps away from the beach and in walking distance of the Miramar restaurant, it was tough writing this review. I really wanted to like this place.

Sorry, it just didn't make the cut.

First of all, it was a bit difficult to find the place.  MapQuest gave a street name, and when we got there, we found the street washed away.  Eventually we found the road that got us to the Inn.

We stayed in the Lighthouse Building.  Not impressed.  The bathroom was gorgeous, and the bed was certainly comfortable... but the wind and the waves were so loud!  A storm came in (we were there in April) and actually got water in the room though the balcony doors were shut.  I think the gaping at the door was responsible for the god-awful whistling that night too.

I mean, you're in HMB, an ocean-view room is easy to come by- so don't let that be the only reason you stay here.

We stayed here for a romantic getaway. We have stayed at Inn at Depot Hill in Capitola which is the same chain of Inns.

Our room had a great balcony overlooking the ocean, but Cypress was not quite as nice as Depot Hill as far as the decorating of the rooms, etc...I like the ambience of the theme rooms at Depot Hill. Most of the rooms at Cypress are ALL WHITE with no real character, and don't seem as well maintained.

BUT, all in all we DID enjoy our stay, mostly because of the OCEAN at our back door!!!

Simply, simply delightful.  My fiancee and I were looking for a one-night getaway and we found it in HMB.  This was our first stay at Cypress but it certainly will not be our last.

We got the last room available for the night - La Estrella - on the first floor of the main building.  I think every room comes with an ocean view - La Estrella certainly does - and we were lulled to sleep with sounds of the ocean waves crashing against the beach.

Part of the attraction I had to this place was that the pictures on the website don't show some wack grandmother-type interior decorator room with an 1850's quilt comforter (no offense to those places or people who like that kind of stuff) thrown on a bed with other knick knacks hanging from walls, displayed on bookshelves, or sitting on nightstands.

The decoration is Spanish-influenced, with heated Spanish tiles (according to the website).  I expected to find hot tiles but they were just average temperature - neither hot nor cold.  But speaking of hot, our room came equipped with a gas fireplace that comes on with the  flick of a switch.

Lest I forget, they feed you - which is why I still attempt to find an attractive-looking B&B despite many out there that have such gawdy decorations.  Last night, we feasted on wine, cheese, and veggies - 5-7 p.m. - and then homemade desserts from 7-9 p.m.  Last night's dessert was chocolate dipped strawberries - OMG - I was in heaven!  In the morning, they serve breakfast from 8-10 a.m.  Today, we were treated to eggs florentine to order (courtesy of Gayle), smoked chicken sausage with apple, fruit salad, granola, various juices, bagels, and another OMG - the croissants.

Here's a whole paragraph devoted just to the croissants here...  Mmm.  My mouth is watering just thinking about the crisp, flaky, warm/hot croissants that they keep on a heated plate.  I had, oh, maybe 10 (shared of course!).  Apparently, they get them frozen from a place in Union City (that's when I remembered I was not that far away from home), set them out overnight to rise, and then bake them in the morning.  Ooh la la.

After breakfast, we went for a nice long walk on a path devoted to bicyclists and pedestrians, right next to the water and beach area.

All in all, a wonderful, relaxing stay and highly recommended.  Btw, they offer a 10% discount to AAA members.

Just got back from a night in "El Viento" at the Cypress Inn.  I have both positive and negative things to say.

Negative: A few unfortunate things about our room: it was painted pink.....maybe this bothered us more than the average person because we just demolitioned our pink bathroom...who knows.  The smoke detector was also removed from our ceiling for some reason....not sure why.  We could hear every footstep of our upstairs neighbors, too.

Positive: free food and location!  We enjoyed the wine and cheese hour, as well as the breakfast - those flaky croissants ARE delish, and I don't even really like croissants normally!  The special was pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream - yummers.  We also enjoyed being on the water, and took full advantage of the very very long walking path along the coast.

Positive/negative - waves.  Now, the sound of waves crashing can be super cool, yes.  But for some reason, they were EXTRA loud, and there were some people partying out on the beach well into the night, so their yelling combined with the extra loud waves was kind of annoying.  We sadly closed the sliding door, but then the room got too stuffy, so we had to crack it open again.  Not really the Cypress Inn's fault, but it was a part of our experience.

Overall, I think I might go again, but I'd want to try a different room, if only to get away from the dreaded pink walls.

Had a great relaxing weekend here- our room was in the main building 2nd floor, right on the water. It felt like we were thousands of miles away from home, when this cozy inn is actually about a 25 minute drive from my house. The breakfasts in the morning were great, as were the wine and cheese in the afternoons and the awesome desserts after 7. Being in the main building, we woke up to the smells of breakfast cooking, roasted garlic in the afternoon, and chocolate brownies in the evening.

Our room was really comfortable, with a plush bed and a cozy fireplace. It was nice relaxing on the furniture watching the sunset out of our ocean view. My only complaint was that the heated tiles seemed to be on the entire time and kept our room pretty hot at night, so much that we had to open our window a couple times. Probably our fault though because we were too lazy to ask them to turn it down. Overall, I'd definitely stay here again.

My husband and I have stayed at this B&B twice, both times for our anniversary.  The staff is SO nice, friendly and helpful.  Most of the rooms have an ocean view, although the back building's views are obstructed.  The second building across the street is the best, in our opinion.

The breakfasts, and evening appetizers with wine were fantastic.  We will certainly return again!

My husband and I just stayed at the Cypress Inn for our 10 year anniversary. We had a WONDERFUL time. The room we stayed in, was in the "lighthouse" building of the B&B. It had a deck with full ocean view, gas fireplace, couch, cafe table and chairs, desk, TV, phone, jacuzzi tub for two, king bed (that was actually very comfortable with comfortable bed linens as well), and a large bathroom with glass shower stall. They even had the extras on hand.. mini fridge with coffee, creamer, tea, sugar, bottled water (all complimentary), a fan for warm days to use in room, extra pillows, blanket, and throw blanket for cooler evenings, cozy clean robes, hair dryer, spa bath amenities, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you could possibly need!

The room was very cozy and clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They allowed us to check in by 1pm and have a late check out of 1pm the next day. We stayed for one night and did the "romance package". The package included champagne (it wasn't Dom but it was a mid range "decent enough to drink" brand), locally made truffles (which were very good), and a $75 gift certificate to our choice of local restaurants. One of the restaurants was Mirimar Beach Restaurant and is within walking distance. The one we chose was Moss Beach Distillery which is still only about a 3-5 mile drive away, if that.

The other wonderful services that were provided were a 2 hour evening offering of snacks and wine between 5-7pm. Then between 7-8pm there was dessert. We didn't make it for the wine but we did go down and pick up dessert later that evening. It was a brownie and your choice of hot chocolate, coffee, or hot tea. It was very good. Last but not least, we were offered a full breakfast the next morning. During all of these opportunities to socialize and eat, you are welcome to do just that or you are also welcome to pick up a tray and slink off to your room for alone time.

The morning breakfast we had was very good  and consisted of eggs Benedict with ham, tomato, avocado on an english muffin, chicken and apple sausage links, fresh seasonal fruit bowl, various cereals (not the kiddie type), choice of bread, and choice of 3 fresh squeezed juices. You could also still get the staple coffees, teas, and cocoa. The breakfast was tasty and prepared upon our arrival. I didn't opt to make changes to my meal but I did hear another guest ask for scrambled eggs with ham instead and they happily obliged.

The only thing that didn't go as smoothly as planned, and I should say this was only a small inconvenience, was the delivery of our champagne and truffles to our room. I guess the manager is the one with a key to the liquor storage and so even though we requested that the champagne be delivered immediately after arrival, they had to wait until he was available to allow them into the storage before they could make delivery. It was only a mild annoyance and something that was partially due to our early arrival and check-in time.

All in all, I would recommend this place to my friends and family, in fact I am booking my parents in for a night this Christmas. I will be back as soon as possible myself. This is not a Grandma's house type of B&B, this is much more like a nice hotel with some opportunities to socialize with other guests.

OH OH OH and the best part of all of this... granted it is the off season but STILL....

-Room with every amenity for 1 night
-Champagne and Truffles delivered to the room
-$75 gift cert. for dinner at nice restaurant
-hot tub
-comfy bed
-waves crashing outside your room
-complimentary evening wine, snacks, dessert, and full breakfast

PRICELESS but actually the real total :   $288.40 with tax

The only extra money we spent was on dinner as we ordered very expensive items and also had drinks. The $75 dollars went more than half way toward the bill though.

HOWEVER, I would suggest for those of you who decide to do the romance package... order cheaper, bring your own wine to the room, and use the extra money that you saved on dinner to get an in-room massage. I believe a half hour session was only $55!

Have fun and happy travels!

We stayed at the Cypress inn for our anniversary a couple of years ago, and had an amazing time. Right on the water in Half Moon Bay and a short walk from the Miramar Beach Restaurant, it's a nice getaway if you don't have time to travel far from San Francisco. The room included a great jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and a patio overlooking the ocean, not to mention the fantastic breakfast they delivered to the room in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful too.

I tend to shy away from B&B's because so many of them seem over the top frilly.  The Cypress Inn is a great exception.  The decor is more Mexican hacienda on the beach than grandma's beach house.  The floors are all tile, the rooms have nice fireplaces, and most of the rooms have views of the ocean.  The breakfast was good (french toast, bacon & sausage, fresh fruit, oatmeal, etc) and served buffet style in the lobby area.

I will try to be as objective as possible when describing this wonderful inn. First of all, they gave us a free upgrade to a room with a full ocean view and the price that we paid for the original room was very, very reasonable (~$170) compared to other oceanfront hotels. The innkeeper, Jack, was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and accomodating. In response to my girlfriend's request, he left a tray with champaigne, glasses, and chocolates on our bed at a designated time because she wanted to surpsise me. He brought us breakfast to our room in the morning, and gave us great tips for stuff to do around town. The view from the rooms in this inn is truly unbelievable. You are 40 feet away from the beach and you can hear the soothing sound of the waves. You can also view the sunset right from your balcony. As for the amenities inside the room, I would argue that they were quite nice! The furniture and decor inside the room had a very rustic feel, however some things were modern (flat screen TV). Sure, maybe the paint on the wall wasn't perfect in one place or another, but who cares? You have the most beautiful ocean view one could ever ask for!

My husband and I just got back from our one year anniversary in HMB and we stayed in the "La lluvia" room on the second floor and loved it! We had a beautiful ocean view with a great fireplace and in the morning we had a yummy breakfast of eggs benedict and fresh fruit delivered right to our room. The staff here is wonderful! However I have heard that the rooms can be hit-n-miss, as this is where our family stayed when we got married, so you might want to chose your room carefully. But if you're looking for a place that strikes a good balance between a B&B and a hotel this is your spot.
