These guys are great mechanics and they sell quality gear ... all at premium prices.  If you don't have the cash, or the willingness to spend it, don't go to this store, period.  If you do come here, expect to get value for what you pay.

I do have to concur with a bunch of folks about the attitudes at Cycle Sports.  Although the first guy to help me when I brought my '92 Cannondale tourer in for a facelift was very helpful, the fitter who took over for him and closed the sale, well ... Let's just say he could use some customer service orientation training, as there was an obvious 'tude.  Both to me and other customers I saw him working with.

Their labor rate is on a par with what most good motorcycle mechanics are charging in the neighborhood, but I understand these guys are into high-end.

That said, the work done was meticulous, including the attention to detail on the handlebar wrap.  They basically had to reinstall and/or relocate all the brake controls, shifters, and cables.  All of the work was spectacular and the bike rides beautifully ... In fact it is more comfortable to ride than ever.

I will go back to Cycle Sports again.  What I care about is knowledge and quality of work, and these guys deliver on both counts.

These guys were HOOOOOORRRRRIBLE. It really is true about what folks on this site have said. If you aren't sporting a thousand dollar bike, they will not help you. Cycle Sports does not cater to working class people.

I had a pretty old bike, with really crappy breaks. Stupidly I decided to go down a steep hill and ended up crashing uncontrollably into a parked car.

So limping into Cycle Sports, huge bleeding cuts and bruises, I wait for someone to help me. I stood there for 15 minutes and watch the sales person walk right past me to help another costumer that walked into the store behind me. Frustrated, I asked the bike mechanic if he could take a look at my breaks. He took one look at my bike, and with a super snotty/snobby smirk on his face says "I cant help you". And turns his back to me without so much as an explanation.

I'm in pain and at this point pissed I yell at the guy, "Hey man, can you at least pretend I am a paying costumer, and tell me why you cant fix it". He turns around with a huge sigh he goes over how they don't accommodate older model bikes, and how expensive it would be to fix my break, as if I didn't have the money.

I would never recommend anyone to this place. The service is crappy and incredibly snobby.

I actually joined yelp so I could write a review on these guys crappy attitude and low and behold Im not the only one.  Yes if you want  to buy a $2000 dollar road bike or you want them to work on one I would Imagine these are your guys. I keep trying to support them because they are in my neighborhood. no more. if you want to deal with people who are willing to work  or help you with bikes and seam to enjoy doing so. go to bay area bikes on Webster or tip top on telegraph. dont go to Montano velo on Piedmont. they may be worse than these guys

Odd to read about the fellas at Cycle Sport  stating they didn't work on Mountain bikes because they did a super job on mine a few months ago. My 15 yo Trek got a facelift, new tires,  brakes and  riser handlebars. All my requests were quickly understood and recorded. I picked up my bike 3 days later and was told my bike would last along time with the new modifications. Cycle sports also honors East Bay Bike Coalition members by giving a 10% discount. Nice.
ps. I also brought in my roommates wheelchair in and they fixed it for $5.00 bucks.

I think the ppl there are know there stuff. However, they come off as pompous about knowing it. Well, that was my experience with the sales person I dealt with.

The bike selection was out of my budget. However, they were great bikes to ride. Only complaint I have to make about the bike ride is that the sales person would not listen to me and lower the sit as I was doing the hop on hop off method on tippy toes to do this. That is why my test ride was short because Grand Ave is kind of a big deal for cars.

If you don't want a snotty attitude, then don't shop here.  These guys don't want to help sell anything.  If you walk in and are interested in anything, no help unless you are a hot chick, or a member of some bike click!  You lost a sale and a potential customer with your attitude that you are so fucking superior to everybody else.

I'm all about supporting my local shops so I shop here for my bike stuff.  I've shopped here twice and the staff has been friendly and helpful both times.  Also, I don't consider myself a "hot chick" and I'm not a member of bike click.  Besides, if I was scantily clad I'd still have to pay the same prices!  I had all my questions answered and made purchases both times and will go back when I need to.

It was clear that I know nothing about bikes when I walked into this shop with a very confused look on my face, but the guys here were helpful, and didn't make me feel like a dumbass at all! I needed my bike to be fitted for a seat post, but they were kind enough to give me a quick, on-the-spot tune-up as well, which I know was probably a pain in the ass and I also know they did not HAVE to do. It's stuff like this that will keep me coming back again and again.

I'm too poor to afford their bikes, but I am a huge fan of the mechanics: Rock stars, every one. They were great about diagnosing a shifting problem. A re-cabling and brake job were expertly executed as well. Good communication - I ended up getting a pretty good education on the drive train maintenance while I was there.

My only complaint is the wait for unscheduled work, but that's par for the course I suppose. As for the customer service, also par for the course. Anyone who has been to more than one real bike shop will tell you that they're not known for falling over themselves. Compared to some they're downright gregarious.

Frankly, I was initially quite surprised by the number of 5 star reviews of this place.  I was even more dumbfounded at all the positive comments about customer service.  But then it hit me: In most instances, customers who are a) dressed conservatively and look like they can afford things; or b) hot chicks; generally receive positive attention from store employees.  So given that I don't fall in either category and how this review embarks on only two stars, you can deduce that my visit to Cycle Sports was sans good customer service.  What  you don't realize is to what extent.

After tons of walking around in the store and trying to get the attention of any employee, I was finally "greeted" by a middle aged man.

"May I help you?" he asked seemingly annoyed.  He had a sort of managerial air to him, but he could have been the owner, I don't know (nor do I care at this point).

I informed him that my bike was really old and needed new tires.  Upon brief inspection outside, he snidely concluded that my wheel size was old and that he couldn't determine whether or not it was a size that was discontinued without taking it apart.  As he walked back inside he then conveniently added that Cycle Sports did not work on bikes as old as mine.  I followed him inside.

Before leaving to help another customer, the prick handed me a random tire and mentioned that the only way to really check the size was to install it.  Then he tells me that if it didn't fit, I couldn't return it.  So here I am at an apparent 4.5 star store, no bike tire installing experience, left with a stupid decision that shouldn't need to be made by a customer at a bike shop.

I said "Eff that" and rode off to Montano Velo on Piedmont, where I had my tires and tubes replaced within 45 minutes.

p.s. Two stars instead of one ONLY because my roommate had a good experience there.  He still agrees with me that the guy is a prick.

END.

Scene One
Place: Cycle Sports
Characters: Lousy Mechanic 1, '69 10-Speed Schwinn, and Moi.
Scenerio:  Schwinn's seat needs new mounting clamp.  Derailleur needs adjustment.

Lousy Mechanic 1: This is an old bike.  There's not much we can do.  Old Schwinn's are like modern Treks.  The parts they use were unique to their models and hard to get a hold of today.

Moi: (Thinking to moiself) Damn.

LM 1: I'm really sorry you invested in this bike. I'd return it and get your money back.

Schwinn: (quietly weeps)

Moi: Thanks for your honesty.

Scene Two
Place: Sacramento Street
Characters: 1969 10-speed Schwinn, Moi, and Mechanic Homeslice.

Moi:  Ouch!  This damn seat is sticking straight up!  It's jabbin my nuts and stabbin my poo. ow! OW!

(out of the corner of Moi's eye he sees a small little shop filled with bikes.  He decides to stop.)

Mechanic Homeslice: Nice bike.  How's it running?

Moi: The gears are slipping and I need a new mounting clamp for the seat.

MH: We have some seat hardware that will probably fit your bike. Look in that room there.  I'll see if I can get it shifting right.

Moi:  Cool!

(Moi finds hardware. Mechanic Homeslice has already fixed the bike)

Moi:  That was fast.

MH:  Do you see this spring here?

Moi: Yeah

MH: All I needed to do was move it up into the higher position.  It literally took a second. Let's fix you seat.

Schwinn: Put some slaps on me too bro!

(Moi leaves happy.  Bike functions perfectly
Cost = $10.  Time = 20 minutes)

Scene Three
Place: Cycle Sports...
Characters: Lousy Mechanic 1, Lousy Mechanic 2, Lousy Mechanic 3, Moi, and 2004 entry level Mtn Bike.
Scenerio:  Bike needs a derailleur adjustment. Maybe new brake pads.

Lousy Mechanic 2: Good afternoon.

Moi:  Hi.  My bike needs some work.  It won't stay in gear and the rear brakes make a horrible metal on metal sound when I brake. I have some new brake pads that you guys can put on  if you decide that the pads are the problem.

Lousy Mechanic 2: Alright.  (He writes up an estimate for $60).

Moi:  Ok.  Thanks.

(Two days later)
phone rings

Moi: Hello

LM 2: Your bike is all ready for pick up.

Moi:  Awesome! I'll be in to get it tomorrow morning.

LM 2: Ok.  Bye.

(tomorrow morning)

LM 3: Here's your bike.  It should be running great.

Moi:  That's great news.  Thank you.

LM 3: I can run your credit card right here.

Moi: (thinking to moiself) ouch, $64 for a bike repair!?

(Moi leaves store and rides up Mandana.  Riding down Mandana Moi must brake.)

Moi:  Are you kidding me!  WTF!  The brakes are making that horrible sound. grrrr!

(Moi rides back over Mandana, back to CS)

LM 2: You're back.

Moi: Yeah, I don't think the problem was fixed.  The brakes are still weak and they are making that horrible sound.

LM 2: Mechanically everything is how it should be.

Moi: Well, no it's not.  The brake is grinding on the rotor.

LM 2: Well, I'm not the mechanic who worked on the bike.  He won't be in until tomorrow and I don't like to get into the middle of projects. I don't know what adjustments have already been made.

Moi: (thinks to moiself) is this a rocketship or a bike? (outloud) You don't think you could just a have a look?

LM 2: I'll see if I have the time today. We'll call you when it's ready.

Moi: That's fine. Thanks again.

(three hours later)

Telephone rings

Moi: Hello?

LM 1: This is Cycle Sports.  We've fixed your bike.

Moi:  Ok.  I'll be right over.

Back in CS

Moi: (thinks to moiself) This is the guy who i talked to about Schwinn.

LM 1: We put on a rotor that is made for your braking system.

Moi:  Why wasn't that done in the first place?

LM 1:  Well, I wasn't that mechanic who worked on the bike.

Moi: uh huh...

LM 1: Disc brakes a hard to work on.  Once they start to wear out you have to replace the whole system.  But we've done all that we can.  It's not at the level where we are satisfied but it might be alright for you.

Moi: (thinks to moiself) What does that mean?

LM 1: If you want we can upgrade to hydraulics or something else.

Moi: So the brakes are working?  That's great.  Did anyone test it out to make sure the gears are good too?

LM 1: Oh yeah. Of course.  We always test the bikes.

Moi: uh huh... Well, thanks.  I'm sure I'll see you again.

(Moi leaves CS. Rides up Mandana.  Gears slip.  Moi curses CS.  On the way down the brakes work.  Moi decides he'll take 1 out of 2)

Scene Four
Place: Alameda Bikes
Characters: Many awesome employees, Moi and mtn bike.

Bro Mechanic: Nothing's wrong with the derailleur. It's the chain.

Moi: Can you fix it?

(BM is already finagleing)

BM: It's fixed.  (then advises how to avoid problem in future!) Don't worry about paying.  This one's on me.

(Total Cost = $0 Total Time= 5 minutes)

So, being the klutz that I am, I sort of fell off my bike a couple of weeks ago. And by "fell off," I mean I pretty much crashed and burned, leaving me with a bruise the size of a pomelo* on my left thigh, a giant gash on my right, a shoulder that I couldn't really extend all the way (FYI, trying to take off your own bra with only one arm is a challenge, to say the least), and a pretty big blow to my pride.

And then there's my beloved bike, which didn't really ride too well after that. And a proper tune-up was long past, so I knew I was in for a doozy of a fix. Enter Cycle Sports, the bike shop that seemed closest to my Oaktown home and therefore my most practical option.

And what an awesome place! The guys working there are super duper nice and professional, my bike was fixed up quickly and beautifully, and the end price (for parts and maintenance) was totally reasonable. After this visit, riding my bike has never felt better, save for my slight fear of crashing again. Bring it on, road.

I'm a whimpy novice rider and have literally no idea what I'm doing. Going into a bike shop like this, I thought it would be like going to a snooty French restaurant and pronouncing all the menu items wrong and getting an eye roll from my snooty foodie waiter. But as soon as I walked in here I was happily mistaken. The guys here are super helpful. They don't pressure you into any purchase. And they didn't make me feel like an idiot for having a bike that they would never ride. I got my brakes fixed super fast and I would definitely come back here again.

Great shop, great people, great mechanics.  There are plenty of top drawer bike shops within a few miles, lucky for all us cyclists.   this is one of my favorites and gets 5 stars because they have a great selection, especially at the mid to high end, are excellent to work with and take the time to make sure you make the right choice.

When I was looking for a new ride last year I test rode "everything".  Okay, bit of an exaggeration but they took the time to set multiple bikes up precisely and I did a total of about 2 1/2 hours of test riding.

All the bike buying effort is wasted unless you get it to fit right, and Chris Blease is a master at it.  If you have never had a professional fit, go see him.  They have a new fitting studio with some state of the art video stuff - haven;t tried it yet but should make and already great service even better.

Warning:  This place sells really nice bikes, don't go unless you're ready to fall in love!

We went in so I could try a couple different mountain bikes.  It was a weekend morning, but Tito was really pleasant about setting up 3 or 4 different bikes for me to try out.  Unlike the other bike shops he took time to talk to us (not just my husband) and he knew his stuff (no running to the back to check the website).

The last bike I tried was an Ellsworth Epiphany.  Holy Moly.  I should never have ridden that bike.  I ended up being too cheap to buy a new Epiphany (found a used one online), but I would most certainly be back to Cycle Sports.  These folks are super helpful!

Confession time: I'm well into my mid-30's and I didn't really master riding a bike until about a year or so ago. Despite being an undergrad at Cal. (I KNOW!! Shocking!) So, after I'd gotten the hang of staying on my bike for durations longer than, oh, a block, I decided I wanted something lighter for carrying up and down the stairs at BART, and perhaps something that fit me.

I went to Cycle Sports, and considering how much of a n00b I was, the gent who helped me was very patient with me and my manifold questions. In fact, so were all the other staff who helped me on my subsequent visits as I was narrowing down my choices. From my experience, the guys who work there are all helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. AND they have a pretty decent selection of bikes from fairly inexpensive to mid-range to crazy-spendy. I picked  out a cute little Trek hybrid bike, though I did consider the Trek Lime for about two seconds. Last but not least, if you're going to visit, I recommend going on a weekday if possible since they're generally slammed with customers on weekends.

Great bike shop.  They carry all the mundane functional stuff as well as the exotic sexy stuff.  You can get yourself a sweet carbon fiber Look or Serotta, while your 6 year old picks out his first two-wheeler.

Nice people.  All the people who work there are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, but go and meet Thierry, the owner, and he'll hook you up.  The problem is he's usually surrounded by all the hot Oakland bike babes who just want to be in his studly presence so you'll have to wait your turn.

I likes my bikes.  THESE guys likes my bikes.  Since '02, they've been my main squeeze for bike care.  That means they always rescue me from those times when I finally give up on trying to do the tunes, installations and fixes myself because I just shat 6 hours in 3 days down the toilet, or better yet, I broke (or nearly) that sexy bike bit I bought from eBay or CL for a "steal".

Lessons taught but never learned:  just by the shit from the shop (they will take care of you here, straight up), and have them do the work.  And watch them pull out that pimp torque wrench to let you know they're serious about bike love.

Tip:  make an appointment for bike service.  You may get lucky from time to time and get an immediate opening during high season (Spring/Summer), but appointments will make everything easier.  Definitely make an appointment for bike fit services.

This shop has very high standards for quality assurance on everything they sell.  If they don't believe in the stuff, they will not sell it -- period.  And most bikes they sell come with a customer service program unrivalled by just most other bike shops.

The shop's pro cred?  Headquarters of the Health Net-Maxxis pro cycling team.

Meh, I bought my first actual road bike here. I had been riding the roads of Texas on a department store bike since I was born (close enough) and I was ready for an actual road bike. Once they determined I was purchasing a bike they were very attentive. I ended up with a bike that I love for a pretty nice price. They told me to put some miles on it and bring it back for a tune up. So, I ride the bike a lot. I even ride the Cinderella ride and end up eating pavement when a huge gust of wind blows me into some gravel.

After I am able to walk without a limp again, I bring the bike in for a tune up which was supposed to be included with the purchase. I happen to mention that I'm just getting back on the bike because of a crash and an injury and they tell me that they will not do the service because the bike has been in an accident and anything that is wrong with it would be due to my crash. I am not happy so I take the bike somewhere else.

For some unknown reason, I have been back three time since then. Each time I am entirely ignored by the staff. They can see that I'm not there to buy a new bike. They can probably see this because I have my bike with me... a bike that has two water cages with their freaking logo on it. Enough already with this place. The water cages are off and I'm not rolling in here again.

This is a small high end bicycle boutique and a repair shop.  They have clearly decided to focus on high quality bikes and parts and that is understandable considering their high rents and small retail space.

Thus, if you are looking for a $2000+ bicycle, this is a great place that is going to help you get exactly what you want.  If you buy one of their accessories, it is no doubt going to be high quality.  They try not to carry stuff that breaks easily.

However, if you are looking for a cheapo commuter bike and aren't very concerned about whether or not your bike has lower quality components, this place isn't going to be a great place.  Their low end selection is minimal and their sales staff is obviously not all that interested in helping out the person looking for a $300 bike.

For the low end market, you are better off heading to Berkeley, where they are catering more to the starving student demographic.

I brought my 4 year-old mountain bike in for a tune-up and encountered a horrible case of cyclist snobbery.  First came the dirty looks from the staff at my $600 bike, followed by neglect for 5 minutes as they chatted with friends.  When I was eventually helped, the staff informed me that they don't work on mountain bikes and wouldn't be able to help me.   I walked out of the store feeling insulted and frustrated.  How does this store manage to stay in business?

There's no way that I'll recommend or support Cycle Sports.  I've since taken my bike to Alameda Bicycle and experienced wonderful customer service.  Use Alameda Bicycle instead!

I actually went here to figure out how to disassemble a friend's bike, which I was planning to check as baggage on a flight to the East Coast.  I knew very little about what to ask ("What *kind* of pedals? Errr...what do you mean?") but they were nice and extremely patient over the phone.  Turns out I only needed a $20 pedal wrench - and the guy was kind enough to give me a quick demo before ringing me up.

It's been years since I rode a bike; if I ever start up again, I'll definitely go here.

These guys know bikes, and I got a great deal on a Trek mountain bike with disc brakes.  Of course they encouraged me to test drive some high-end bikes before I settled on the one I wanted.

Then they take the time to fit you to the bike, on some special equipment.  Then you have a free tuneup within the next 12 months.

If you want service during the busy season, you have to call and make an appointment, sometimes a week in advance.

I have been  riding almost daily for 35 years, and I have come to realize that there are basically 2 types of bike shops, the first is where they love bikes, all bikes and are glad to help you wether you are riding a 50dollar "beater" or a 4 grand carbon racer. These places will always try to fix something or give advice even if the parts are hard to fine or the bike is obsolete. This is because the peps there truly love riding and bikes, no matter what they are use for.
Then there are places like this, where they try to take advantage of any type of ignorance, try to high ball repair estimates, and treat you with a sneer or an aloof attitude if you walk in with at 10 year old steel mountain bike. These are the snobby bikes shops. They tried to talk me into a 200 dollar tune up for my bike which it certainly did not need.If you look like you might not know every little thing about the newest bottom bracket model, they will see sucker written all over your face.  If your bike looks a little raggy because It lived in New york for a few years and was scratched up, they look down on you. I ended up buying my own brake cables, and doing the whole tune up myself for 20 bucks in parts. Its just they always seem to be talking down to you there. I did not have a bad repair experience there, but I concurr with Robert B. about their attitude. They remind me of the Famous R&A cycles in Broooklyn , New York , known as the rudest bike shop in that City.

Been here several, several times and each time I go I have no problems.  I went in just a few days ago after my bike encountered a small misfortune..the same guy fixes my bike everytime (which I like because that way at least he's familiar with it..)  Both times he was a lot of help in explaining what was wrong, and what he did to fix it, and anything he saw with it; he's extremely helpful.  So no complaints about the customer service, or the work.  :)

I like Cycle Sports for picking up quick things like hydration powder, gels, and tubes.  (I get my bikes and repairs from a high end shop in San Leandro). I have bought a seat here, socks, and miscellaneous supplies over the years.  I find the staff very helpful and the manager is super friendly and helpful.  About 5 or 6 years ago, there was a serious attitude problem there and they treated you like something to be scorned. The shop is moving in the right direction.  I cannot speak about bicycle sales or repairs but the folks there have always been nice.

If you want lots of attitude and condescension to go with the high prices, this is the place.  If you browse awhile they will actually say things like "Can I help you find the bike that's right for you?"  But they give you the feeling that if you are not (a) rich or (b) an Olympic athlete they're not really interested.  If you want good, friendly and genuinely helpful service -- without the attitude-- go to Hank & Frank's on College Ave.

If you are serious about bikes, then this is a great shop.  If you are not serious about bikes, then this is a great shop.  Great service.  Knowledgeable and friendly.  They tell you straight and stand behind their sales.  I visited several local shops to test ride carbon road bikes.  They were simply the best - fitting the bike to me before the test ride to se if it was right.  Everyone else just said here you go and adjusted the seat.  Cycle Sports took the extra time to make sure I got what I wanted at a fair price.  They even referred me to another local shop for some parts so I did not have to wait for it to be ordered.  Great wrenchers, too.

Cycle Sports rock!  Although I have never *bought* a complete bike there, I have taken in both my road and cyclo cross bikes for tune ups and repairs. I have been always treated warmly and not only that, one time I brought in my cyclo bike in for a tune up and they bent the rear derailleur hanger, realigned it and offered to replace it at no cost!  Other bike shops would have not even told me about it. I love there honesty and commitment!

These guys are the little old ladies friends. They put air in the tires of my battery pedal assist bike without a snicker. I get all my cool bike stuff  there like my circular light that comes with a bungee kind of thing. The cutest guys work there. Do SOL's notice this, yes they do. My light works by some magic magnetic thing that you pass over the back and it goes on. No switches. What was all that about? The just below the knee bike pants I wear are from there too. I liked them so much that I went back to get another pair. I aspire to be a feet locked in cool bike rider but if I fall who will support me? Go in for a look at all the stuff they sell, maps, bikes and lots of free advice and camaraderie.

I stumbled in here one day when wandering down Grand Ave, just to see what was inside.  Well, the staff was pretty cool.  They have tons of bike stuff.  I'm not a biker, but I enjoying a good supplement before/during/after working out.  They don't have a HUGE supply, but they do carry some of my basics and at least one I have never seen before.  Sadly the new one I tried tasted terrible, but I won't blame them for that.  The prices for supplements aren't great, but if you just need one or two, you can get in and out quick.

this was stop number two on my bike searching adventure.  while bay area bikes was completely congenial, cycle sports was much more hands on, as they automatically handed over a bike, helmet, and pant clips.

this store was definitely larger than bay area bikes, but the service was just as good.  it should also be noted that this shop seems to have mostly trek bikes, though they have other brands too.

parking is a bit of a pain at this location, but they are open everyday!

I love the friendly staff and their passion for bikes.  They always make sure I get just what I need but not more than, so I don't spend too much on features I don't need.  They've always been great about taking the time to explain stuff to me.  Is this the best bike shop in the east bay?  I have NO idea.  I've been to a few and this is the one I like the best.

I just spent $300 on a deluxe tune-up, and I can't wait to ride my bike because it looks brand new, and I bet it will ride like its brand new. That's the good news.

The bad news is that despite having made an appointment 3 weeks in advance, Cycle Sports did not have my bike ready on time. In fact, it took them 4 extra days to work on my bike, because they simply forgot that they had it. Perhaps that can/should be excused as a one-time error.

What concerns me a little more and what might concern you too is that if you are not VERY familiar with the mechanics of a bicycle, the staff at Cycle Sports can talk right past you without seeming to care. I love riding my bike, but I don't know a heck of a lot about fixing it, so I want a mechanic who can avoid the technical jargon and just give me confidence that I am not wasting money on a fairly expensive tune-up. It doesn't seem like the mechanics at Cycle Sports are too interested in that. In the end, I might go back for my next tune-up, but it will be somewhat begrudgingly.

This shop is going downhill.  Years ago they had great mechanics and counter staff.  Those guys are gone.  Service is now very slow, poor quality and they charge high, meaning above retail, for some parts and repair prices are waaay high.  In addition, the counter staff, an older guy I tried to deal with anyway, is compelled to lecture regardless of your question or expertise, that is when he gets around to noticing you at the counter.  I'm standing there with a $5,000 primo machine (not one of their brands) seeking a simple part and he needs to convince me of his brilliance even as I give up and walk out the door.  I guess we're all stupid even if we've been riding 000's of miles and building bikes for 30 years.  Done with Cycle Sports.  Stay away, there are lots of shops who love cyclists and bicycles, and who are happy to help.  These guys aren't in that realm.  They did sponsor, along with Health Net, a road  team (good for the sport!)....but that is no reason to overcharge and under serve.  Don't be fooled by their egomania and elitism.  Bikes are not that complicated.
