Open on sundays - AWESOME
Friendly, Helpful Staff - Awesome
Excellent return policy - Super awesome!
Super excellent deals - RADICAL!
With store front parking - uber RAD!
Just went in today picked up some new gloves and they helped me locate a new bike cover to weather tomorrows rainstorm. Prices were fair and their return policy is really good. I hate to hear that some JO's abuse it. (Personally I hate seeing the throngs of single use return JO"s at costco)
This place just keeps getting better.
Just returned a Bikemaster wheel chock that I bought over a month ago because it sucked so bad I ended up buying a Baxley at the track.
No problem. Easy Return.
Frustration over.
You guys are great.

Ok, so I've spent more money here than I'm comfortable admitting.
Two helmets, two jackets, gloves,… Read more »
As a newbie, Cycle Gear was the first place I went to, to check out all the gear that I would need to start riding. The experience was extremely underwhelming, and I felt like most of the people were unable to really "engage" with me. They did not seem happy to earn my business either, I thought maybe they were the only guys in the business and could perhaps afford to conduct themselves in this manner. I heard about Scuderia a cpl of weeks later where I enjoyed a totally different and very positive experience.
What I did like about cycle gear was that when I did discovered Scuderia with gear that was a lot better suited to me, Cycle Gear took back all that I chose to return. I feel bad for not remembering the name of the one associate who was younger and wore dreads, but she had a great attitude and seemed very willing to help and answer all my questions.
Nice, helpful, and friendly staff. B has bought tons of things here, from bike parts to his full leathers for more than 50% off. Last year we also picked up my helmet and textile jacket on a sale too. My boots were marked down from $200+ to $50 and they're waterproof. My only complaint is their lack of women's pants. Yeah, they have a lot of jackets, but I wish they carried more pants, whether leather or textile.
We've been on the hunt for some touring pants after this kid flew off a sportbike Memorial Day weekend with only a jacket, no gloves, and jeans on. Needless to say his jeans were shredded and his ass was out in the open. Poor kid was bleeding profusely, but was still alive after he stopped rolling on the road. Very disturbing to see. That being said, all riders/passengers shoudl be in the market for pants and hopefully Cycle Gear will start carrying more for the ladies.

They have great gear, reasonable prices, and good store policies, but all five of these stars are for their exceptionally wonderful service.
I've made two trips here in the last few weeks. The first time, I walked in less than an hour before my MSF class, and literally told the sales person "yes, I need lots of help." I explained my situation, and was quickly out of the door with a helmet, boots, jacket, and gloves. The woman that helped me realized I was a clueless new rider, and didn't try to stick me with the absolutely most expensive item in every category (they weren't uber-cheap, but not as bad as I had expected). She explained that she likes working with new female riders, because so much gear out there is pink and tacky. We figured out what I actually wanted, and even given my flummoxed state, I was still happy with my purchases a week later.
I was happy, but... my friends managed to pull together a bunch of handmedowns anyway. So a week later I went back with my jacket and gloves to return them. I felt bad, given the exceptional service I'd had earlier, and because I was essentially returning them only because I had new free versions. Literally - no questions asked. The sales guy logged my refund, and gave me a 15% discount on the things I was keeping because I showed my MSF certificate of completion. How cool is that?
I'm definitely going back next time I need gear.

Walked in an hour before closing time on Thursday, looking for some gear for a supermoto class the following morning.
Had some great deals and very helpful staff.
They didn't have exactly what we were looking for, but we found what we needed and everyone was happy.
I bought some Shift brand freestyle motorcycle boots, a jersey (for $12 bucks!) and my friend got a great deal on his boots too.
Nice!
After being ripped off a few times by online stores and eBay I have now come to do 80% of my motorcycle shopping through Cycle Gear. (If they sold more engine and body parts it would be 100%).
They seem to always have the best prices and they match their website price for items in the store if you ask. Also if it is an order item and you go into the store they will match the web price and not even charge shipping if you pick up at the store.
Customer service is excellent. They let me try before I bought a rain cover and they let me pop on a bunch of different helmet shields before buying one, made the purchase much easier. The return policy is also great. They understand that sometimes it takes a few days to decide if you like/ need something. I have seen things on their clearance rack with the description "wore once, didn't like color". If you don't like something or it is defective they gladly give cash back, not just exchange.
The experienced employees can help you find pretty much anything, even if not on the website. You can tell if someone is new, if they are and can't help, find another employee and they will.
They also have incredible sales from time to time, I got a front and rear Dunlop d756 dirt tire pair for $98 last week, out the door tax and all, front and rear only $98 total! Also great place to get street tires and the most reasonable for mount and balance.
Don't forget to check out the tool section, there are things there you have probably never thought of that will save loads of time.
As for the one star review pushing people to Scuderia, WTF? 1 star you said they took everything back, how is that 1 star service? Scuderia is great if you have the money to burn, I like to go in and look at Bimotas and such and the owner is a pretty cool guy, but I prefer to shop at Cycle Gear.
Instead of being that aimless regular guy walking in to browse and look like i know what i'm looking for, granted my experienced friend was there with me. I should have marched on up and just welcome all the help these guys were willing to provide. I didn't feell ike they were tyring to trick me into buying something not worth and in fact, they were asking for my size and found me this awesome deal with the Arai Corsair helmet.
And the best part, as a $550 helmet, it was on sale and marked down to $360ish and instantly caught my attention. I left feeling like I can definitely come back and check some more stuff out. Especially with my MSF 15% discount stil in my pocket, I have yet to use it on something worth.
Till next time.

This is your pretty standard motorcycle accessory shop.
What makes it superb is the staff. Very pleasant, informative, and efficient.
I was shopping for a new helmet and the guy that worked there was patient to change the cheek paddings for me, get me different sizes, inform me about the functionality of each helmet.
As a first time rider, I was a little intimidated when it came to getting outfitted. There's a learning curve and m/c gear can be expensive. Before I took the MSF course, I went to the Redwood City store and they were super helpful. I bought a helmet there, then found out there was a discount for those passing the course. Over a week later, I visited the SOMA store and asked about it. They not only gave me the discount, but added in a $75 discount since my helmet had gone on sale since I bought it!
Paige was only the awesomest sales person ever. She was super patient and helped me figure out what gear I needed, not what she wanted to sell me. I tried on a dozen jackets that day and found exactly what I liked. Throw in the boots, gloves, etc. and I thought I was in for some damage at the register, but with a 15% discount and some sales, I did pretty well. Now I'm off on my 919!
Picked up a pair of Thomas Frank Gloves right before my motorcycle training course. The employees here are very helpful and informative in choosing apparel. They knew that I had no idea about what I was purchasing and did not try to sell me the most expensive brand.
I will definitely be back to buy the rest of my gear here. You also get 15% off your first purchase after you pass the MSF course. Which is the highest discount I heard of so far (10% at Dainese D-Store, 10% at Golden Gate Cycles).
This place by far has the most selection for motorcycle gear in the city. I came to buy a helmet and with so much selection it took me forever to decide which one to get. After the friendly help from the employees I finally got one. A bonus is that they give you a discount for taking the mfs course. Whenever I need some more gear this will be my one shop stop.
It's like Christmas just shit all over the floor when you walk in here, well...if you ride that is. If you don't...well you best be all Dad-like and find a chair to sit in whilst I Supermarket Sweep this bitch for my R6.
It's the one store on this planet that doesn't cause me flashbacks to the Folsom Street Fair when I smell leather. It's also the one store that makes my wallet's butthole clinch when I bounce my stocky Cool As Ice physique up in this piece. Just know that protective leather ain't cheap and you shouldn't be either!
After going down...(comedic pause)...I recall picking my weeble wobble arse up off the street, sitting on the curb and thanking the Lord for blessing me...with a mind to rhyme and two hype feet...ZOMG! I'm totally kidding! I was actually thanking Him for sparing my portly face and inventing the cow. The price of my leather gear was totally worth seeing my elbows stay where elbows stay and my shoulders remain in the shoulder type position.
They also got like hecka helmets...that I simply try on to get my size and then go order it online for like hecka like cheaper then like they would like ever like sell like it like to like me...like. It may be a little pricey to get into riding at first but the dividends paid are worth the initial investment. Your life is not worth a $200 savings.
And finally...if you MUST try on the leather chaps, please wear your pants. :/
Vroom on a Yamaha...chromed out...11 hundred!

Ive been a daily motorcycle commuter for over 2 years now and I get all my gear here. Ive gone online to search, window shopped other stores, driven to far parts of the bay. In the end, its not worth it. Some of the best prices, best selection, and best service. I'm geared up head to toe from cycle gear.
30-satisfaction guarantee gets me almost all the time. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy about my purchase.
Although online I might save 5-10 bucks on this or that, add shipping, the convenience of cycle gear, and instant gratification.... I'll buy in store and support the local economy. Stimulus package baby! They have a website anyways and their mail order catalog makes great bathroom reading...
My only thing is I wish they were open a bit later on the weekdays. I usually cant make it before 7 on weekdays.
I will start by saying the people at this store are really nice, and will help you with your questions. Most of them are pretty young, and I'm surprised because usually young people seem to have a know it all attitude.
The only reason I don't give this place more stars is the selection of gear. Being that this is San Francisco you would think this place would be a warehouse size building, but it's really not that big. They have great deal of helmets and stuff for dirt and sportbikes, but the gear and clothing is usually only in extra large or bigger. This place also has a less personal feel than you will get at some of the Harley or Cruiser style shops. People don't inrtoduce themselves or anything like that ,and it kind of has a "Abercrombie at the mall" feel to it. I will stress the people here are really nice though.
The staff here is nicer in comparison to other Cycle Gears...
But dude, don't try to force me in to gloves that aren't right for me. I know you need to make a sale, but making $300 Dainese gloves my first and only option...come on.
Plus it's kinda hard to take gear advice from someone that rides into the store on an R6 in pumas, diesel jeans, t-shirt, and a back protector. I know it's all the rage with the squids now and people should do what they want...but don't you want to sell safety?
I ended up getting a pair of custom fitted Helimot gloves for $100 less...

I have been working at Cycle Gear for close to a year. My last shop was a dealership, and the one before that was a parts shop. I am going on year 4 of being a parts monkey. I don't know everything, but I know a lot.
First: Cycle Gear is a retail store. Mechanical knowledge is NOT a requirement for hire. Luckily, MOST of us have a pretty good foundation, and some of us know quite a bit.
Second: We do not have access to OEM parts, just aftermarket replacements.
Third: We do not have access to schematics like the dealerships, nor do we have access to the internet. (read: go to http://www.ronayers.com for OEM parts at about 20% less than retail)
As far as the selection of gear, we really do not have a huge amount of space to store a lot of different items, but we can order almost anything. If you have seen something online, please bring the information with you, as we have no internet access and cannot look it up ourselves.
Look guys, we are students. We love motorcycles. We know a lot, but we don't know everything. We never hesitate to call the tech lines for help when we are unable to answer your questions. We are not salesmen, we are riders, and when we tell you the $300 Shoei provides more protection than the $49 Arashi helmet, we are not lying. We do not get paid on commission, and therefore we are not trying to up-sell you on something you do not need. We understand budgets, so just tell us how much you can afford to spend on any given item and we will do our best to find something that works for you. (I can't afford a $700 Arai Nakano replica, trust me, I understand.)
Thanks for the reviews folks.

I just purchased a 2006 Yamaha R6 Raven. Now it's time to be protected with top notch gear for safety purposes. I did a lot of research online and asked a lot of friends who ride bikes. They all recommended Cycle Gear. I had a full list of things I needed to buy that may save my life such as a helmet, gloves, boots and leather jacket.
I arrived and one of the employees approached me immediately to see if I needed help. I gave him my list and he led me to each item. I experienced excellent customer service. The prices were a little steep but here's a tip for you Yelpers.
IF YOU ARE A NEW CUSTOMER, BRING IN THE DMV MOTORCYCLE HANDBOOK AND YOU WILL RECEIVE 20% OFF!!!!!!!
You owe me for that great tip! So to continue on, I soaked up at least 40 minutes of the guy's time and he was very helpful all the way from when I entered the store to when I left. I believe his name was Mike (some Asian guy with some inkwork on his calf).
The only reason why I didn't give Cycle Gear 5 stars is because they didn't have my size with all the items I wanted. Although, they could special order the correct size, it's always nice to be able to have an immediate purchase in your hands.
If you're a new rider, definitely check out this shop. You'll save money with the coupon and Cycle Gear gives you the best tips and customer service.

Having recently purchased a motorized 2 wheel vehicle, I've found that having certain things like...oh say...a helmet and other safety equipment is a good thing.
I was told when choosing a helmet, it's best to put it on and walk around with it on for a good 20 minutes. They had no problems with that and definitely welcomed it. When I made my selection, I noticed they didn't have the color that I wanted and they happily special ordered it for me.

I love this store! Before I ever bought my first bike, I came in just to browse.. I found a Frank Thomas jacket marked from $350.00 down to $80.00.. WOW. Bought it =)!! Then a few days later I came in on black friday for the infamous $50.00 seven zero seven helmet.. I have since then upgraded the helmets, but you will definitely find some great deals here. The staff is helpful and friendly.
One of the biggest motorycle gear shops in the area. Place has a huge selection and always has stuff on sale. Picked up a textile jacket for some warm weather riding around the city and got an awesome deal on it.
When I'm in this place, I feel as though I'm in a Longs Drugs for motorcyclists. The selection is dangerously vast and the prices are great. I had gripes with their customer service in the past, but it seems as though they're changing that a great deal. The past few times I went there, everyone was really helpful and keen.
It's a different sort of knowledge base and vibe than the smaller shops to which I tend to go. In some ways, it feels like how Kragen might have been when they were smaller and fewer in number. This shop is easy on their returns and exchanges as everyone states. They are, however, a minor detour off my route home and there's a ton of motorcycle parking right out front.
If you have problems with compulsive spending, I'd suggest you stay out of harms way here. There are way too many things you can just pick up on the way home. I try to limit my stops there to once every couple of months so I don't have to constantly hide my new acquisitions from my woman, as though I were having some illicit affair with some easy, greased-up, leather clad, fire breathing temptress from mid-town.

They always carry plenty of what you want and need in stock. Huge selection. Prices are about what you would expect to pay for motorcycle gear.
What I really like about this place is:
I once had a pair of Alpinestar gloves that were beginning to fall apart and had just purchased them at Cycle Gear, but had lost the receipt. I was in there buying a new helmet and had mentioned that my gloves were falling apart and they replaced them without even thinking twice. Not very many places do that these days!
Friendly and helpful staff.
4 Stars.

Went here last Sunday to do some window shopping for my new baby (brand new R1). I was extremely happy when I found out they are open on Sundays as most if not all Moto shops/dealers are closed on this day. This place is much bigger than what I thought from outside.
I have to agree with my fellow Yelpers this is the CompUSA of of Moto stuff. I was surprised to to find such a large selection of Sport/Cruiser/Dirt bike stuff. They carry many of the largest brands and plenty sizes in stock. When it came to helmets I did notice they only stocked either the real cheap or the real high end items. I found a couple of Shoie lids that I will most likely come back for in the future. the footwear selection was great also. I peeped some Puma's that I would have diff grabbed if i had the funds at that moment. My GF ended up buying me a gas tank protector which was a sweet gesture from her (Thanks babe).
When it came to customer service that's why I gave them only 4 stars. I didn't get greeted(Not that i really care but i do notice these things), In the whole time we were there which was about 45mins we never got approached to see if we were okay or needed help(5 guys working and it being Sunday afternoon it was not busy).
All and all I loved the selection and probably end up coming back to pick up some stuff as I like to try on and make sure it is what I want instead of going back and forth with things bought on-line. Hopefully the CS will be better next time around.

Cycle gear is my new favorite place in the whole world. Everything you could ever want for your bike at great prices. The staff are always helpful to me. And it's hard to beat their prices.
Need something for your motorcycle..... this place just might have it. This is probably the best all around selection for aftermarket bike parts, apparel, and maintenance items in the area. Deals are pretty good, usually something on sale, and this particular location even has a pre-owned rack of protective gear. Staff is friendly..... but not as helpful or knowledgeable as one might hope. I think they mean well, but as anyone that may remember shopping at a local hardware store, where the staff knew everything about.... well everything, and then you went to a Home Depot...... not the same level of expertise, same thing at Cyclegear. They are open 7 days a week, so that is nice.
If you need to special order a part, it comes super fast. I understand returns to be no hassle as well.

This is a great store to get all your motorcycle gear and accessories. Once you've completed the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) course they'll even give you 15% off your entire purchase the first time you present the card.
I was really impressed by the wide selection of helmets and jackets. The staff were super helpful and provided great insight as to the differences between some of the product offerings.

Excellent service. Wide selection. Excellent service. Great prices on top notch gear. Excellent service. Very friendly and patient staff (it took me a while to find a pair of alpinestars that fit comfortably and the salesdude was very cool about it). And finally.....
Excellent service.
If you ride motorcycles, turn tricks or like high priced jewelery one thing is certain: you are going down. It's just a question of when.
On the bike your significant other is Mr. Asphalt, and Mr. A ain't smooth. Imagine sliding over a 20 foot cheese grater with a new chunk of flesh ripped off every inch or two. That's what your intimate encounter is going to be like if you aren't in leather. And if you think you don't really need knee protection try this fun experiment: go to a parking lot and fall rapidly on your kneecaps. Then imagine doing it at 20 MPH. Yea, I'd pass too. Better some dead cow hide and rubber gets pounded and grated then your body. If you ride you need protective clothing.
There are three parameters in choosing motorcycle clothing: Cheap, effective and aesthetically pleasing (good looking and comfortable). Basically, you gotta choose two of them and live with it, and the effective part is non-negotiable.
If you can afford a premium price go to Scuderia http://www.yelp.com/bi... . Their stuff is top-notch, feels great, looks good and will last. But cheap its not - expect to pay $400-600 for a jacket and maybe 300-500 for pants.
On the other hand, the products you'll find at Cycle Gear are much cheaper, pretty much as effective (most of their products are EU certified), but less pleasing. Expect to get a perfectly OK jacket or set of pants for around $200. Similarly, a functional leather suit for the track can be had on sale for around $400, at least $800 less than a slightly higher quality version of the same thing sold elsewhere. Service has taken some knocks, but I've always found it, like the merchandise, to be good enough.
Cycle Gear also has a reasonable collection of accessories (locks, fluids, some small parts). You can get better prices on line, but if you need it immediately they are as good as any place in the city.
When you get off (your bike) you'll be wearing exactly what you wore when you got on. Be smart and dress for a happy ending.

Okay. I'm a female. It's so easy to get help in this store.
However, it wasn't me that needed the help, i was only accompanying to drool over jackets and helmets. (I have yet to ride my own bike. *sigh* 08 ninja 250 in lime green please, my bday's coming up! THANKS! j/k)
So the search for frame sliders ensued. I walked around by myself and was asked and smiled at like 5 million times if I needed help.
He however, just walked around clueless. Hahahaha.

So I came back with a female friend my intentions were to pick up his Alpinestars jacket, but it was gone. It's okay, I GOT MINE INSTEAD AND IT WAS ON SALE!!
Thanks for all the help gentlemen. ;] y'all were soooo helpful

It's the supermarket of motorcycle gear. When you need it now and you need it fast.
Huge store with a large selection for every budget. Everything from the cheap Motoboss brand to bling bling Dainese. They sell street gear and dirt gear and offer selections for men, women and children.
I've never found the sales people unhelpful. They don't always know what they're talking about, but you can't expect them to know everything.
My only complaint is in getting tires mounted...it used to be they would mount your tires within an hour of you bringing in your rims, but alas - no longer. They recommend that you drop them off in the morning and then come back at the end of the day to pick them up. Make sure you check your tires too because I've had someone mount one on backwards.
The prices are retail, so if you're patient, most likely you can order the product online and save yourself some money (that you can use for tracktime!). BUT, if you need it NOW - chances are they've got it.

Friendly people for the most part. I don't know who's fault it was but they took one month just to get a part in for me. If someone at cg screwed up my order then at least compensate me but if the distributer screwed up then have the distributer compensate CG for the wait. That is incredibly to long to wait for an aftermarket part. On the other hand CG has a decent selection of oils and things to service your moto. CG has great hours of operation too. As for apparel I can't say because I never went in there for that.
Terrible customer service. Defective products. This is not the store to shop at.
I bought a $200 flipface helmet from them and 3 months later the chin piece fell off- while I was riding! Since I was near the store I drove in to exchange it. The Sunday riders who work there refused to exchange it and violated their own service policies, as posted on their own website, by insisting that I leave it there to let their distributor decide "whenever they get around to it"...
From the Cycle Gear website:
"If anything you purchase from us fails to perform up to your expectations, we will quickly replace the product or refund your purchase. And we will never charge you a restocking fee. It's that simple. If there is a defect with a product purchased from Cycle Gear, we'll never send you to the manufacturer."
I've used similar helmets for years and I've been a daily rider for 15 years. That had never happened with a helmet before and is absolutely unacceptable.
Don't support bad faith chain stores that sell unsafe products to riders...

The store has lots of gear (helmets galore, especially) but their cusomer service isn't so great. Fortunately the store employs mostly Asian males, which I can tolerate much easier than the white Christian oppressive infidel jew-loving filth you normally find at motorcycle shops.
I am basically a motorcyle noob. I was trying to buy a helmet. A decent helmet is going to cost you anywhere from 300 to 600 dollars. Given the fact that they are so expensive, I think it's reasonable for someone like me to have lots of questions.
I had lots of questions. I have worked in retail before, and I know it can be annoying to have a customer who has lots of questions, but still, some measure of professionalism would have been nice.
I don't think that a sales person should be shaking his head or squinting his eyes in frustration when I ask him a question about fitting, about what I should be looking for. I asked Allah, praise upon his name, to give me strength. Should the crown be squeezing the top of my head or should it lightly seat on it? Should the cheek pads be pushing against my cheeks like this, making my face a little red, or should it be a little looser? They seemed like reasonable questions. Maybe that guy was just having a bad day.
Then the other guy helped me, a white infidel christian guy (he might have been a blood-sucking jew, I can't be sure) with a goatee, I think his name was Dan. He asked if I needed his help, and I of course, being the bitchy little bitch that I am, I first told him that I would like him to help me if I wasn't going to be treated like an idiot.
"What do you mean?" Dan asked. I couldn't tell if he was asking because he was concerned that I had a bad experience, or if he was asking self-defensively. I'll just assume that he was concerned about me. I told Dan about the other sales guy, about how he kind of acted like my questions were annoying. Dan moved on and so did I.
Dan answered all my questions, respectfully. He was incredibly helpful. He helped me find the right fitting helmet. They didn't have the color I wanted so he ordered me one. He didn't try to sell me anything else.
Another bad service issue: I needed to find an inline filter. I think when you tell someone that you need an inline filter, it is implied that you want one that is "universal.", in other words, just a general filter that you splice into the middle of your fuel line. But being the noob that I am, I couldn't conjure the word "universal", so 2 or 3 of the sales guys kept asking "fuel filter...for what?" A lot of bikes don't have stock fuel filters...so they are commonly an add-on. 9 times out of 10, if you go to a bike shop saying you need an "in-line fuel filter", they won't be baffled by the question and they won't ask you what kind of bike you have, forcing you to come up with the magic word: "universal."
I forgot to mention, a friend of mine bought me a battery there which turned out to be the wrong one. The battery died. Cycle Gear (Dan) took my dead battery, no questions asked, replaced it with the correct one for no charge. Thanking Allah, praise upon his name, for this gift, I was pleasantly surprised.
4 Stars because of the white goateed guy (Dan?). Without him, the place gets 2. I am such a pissy little bitch. I hate myself.

Great shop. They've got a large selection of bike gear and accessories. If you complete the motor cycle safety course, you get 15% off your first purchase, too. Awesome deal. I just started riding and saved a lot of money that way.
Only complaint is that they seem a little short staffed. I had to wait a while before I could find someone available to help me. All very nice people, though.
Great gear selection, retail prices.
Helpful staff, they treat you like they are not paid on comission.
Please don't come here just to size up gear and buy it for cheaper online, that's unethical!
The women's gloves my man treated me to from here have this genius padded area on the knuckles where my hands get smashed between his rock hard tummy and the tank.
Nice selection.
They offer a decent selection for basic motorcycle gear. There's a good array of Alpinestars and Frank Thomas for women. Service can be hit or miss. It's definitely not overly friendly. But I was able to return an unused textile jacket four months after purchase with no issues. Prices are at retail, so you can almost always find the items cheaper if you shop around (especially online).
Cycle Gear will suffice if you know what you want and are in need of something ASAP. It's the convenience factor. If you can hack it, Road Rider in San Jose has a larger selection with a lot better deals.
