Easily the best espresso drinks on Aquidneck Island! Two locations: Middletown and Portsmouth....to serve you!! And, if you're lucky enough, you'll be served by Barrista Steve.....who does excellent latte art, not to mention the espresso is oh so sweet. Bob and crew roast the beans there, which are widly used in various Newport restaurants and available for sale.  Roastings are only at the Middletown location.

Sadly, I must report that dogs are not allowed.

a lil pricey but coffee was delicious + the place is adorable--- totally surrounded by vintage coffee cans. I LOVED the decor. There is also a book share where you can bring a book and borrow a book. Precious. The staff was really  nice, even gave me a REAL spoon for my parfait which was delicious.

If you want a place that feels comfy + tastes even better... this is your kinda place.

Holy Chai-Mazing!  The iced, vanilla, sugar free chai tea is so good!  Perfect for this hot day!

I came here because I had some time to kill in between meetings.  The service is really great here because the waitstaff is friendly.  Plus, it doesn't hurt that the inside is super cute.  The little old fashioned coffee cans in the coffee shop is really cute.

But back to the Chai, this feels like I am drinking dessert, but it is sugar free and is made with skim milk.  The spice is just right with the hints of cinnamon and sweet vanilla.  I highly suggest it!  The ice coffee is really good too!

I also got a roast beef wrap.  It is nothing to write home about but nonetheless it is a good value.  I like that it was not drenched in dressing.  The wrap was not soggy at all.  You get a choice of a banana or chips to go with it.  All in all, my meal was $10.87.  Not too bad considering I am enjoying their air conditioning and free Wi Fi right now!

The only con, a lack of electrical outlets.  There is only one, and I am akwardly using it now!

    Incredibly fresh
Not ground unless it's asked for
    Community place

Custom house has two faces, to go with its two locations. The Middletown locale has the freshest coffee anywhere, owning to the fact that the beans are roasted not 10 feet from the carafe. The Portsmouth location has great food, with a large kitchen and bakers on hand (more on that on the Portsmouth location review.)

On most afternoons a roaster will be manning their machine, and if you're lucky you can take home a pound of beans that were green not minutes before. I love the fact that they don't pre-grind any of their beans before separating them into bags. It keeps them fresher longer, and gives the place a bit more integrity, in my book.

I will always come here for my coffee beans when I'm shopping in Rhode Island. The owner is often in the shop, and he's great to talk to about the varieties and different roasts that are currently available.

The only real downfall of the Middletown location is the seating. It's not really good for groups or meetings, and there aren't any big comfy chairs into which one might sink with a good book. I love stopping in here for a quick cup when I'm on the road, but it's not really the place to get work done or relax.

I have been going here since I started working on island in 2006.  The quality of their coffee and service continues to get better with age.  Their by the pound coffee is arguably the best in the state, and certainly the best on the island.  The cold brewed iced coffee is just what you need to jump start your day.  I do not have a negative thing to say about Custom House Coffee.  My only request would be to sell some extra dark roasted to the edge coffee beans once in a while, I'll buy em.

This is one of the best coffee houses on the island, hands down. And if you like espresso, this is the place to go - it would make any Italian proud. Aside from making great coffee, they always have the absolute nicest people working there. The owner, Bob, is also very friendly and dedicated. The place is decorated with lots of coffee related nicknacks and antiques, and they roast their own blends in-house. It's very charming and the service is great, and the fact there is always parking is a definite plus on my morning coffee rush. Love it.

What a gem! Went in for my first time last Sunday and they had open-mic going and the place was pretty packed. My chai was delish (almost 4 bucks though!). They also seem to have wifi. Oh and lots more than just coffee. I hope to stop by for lunch some time.

These are the most fabulous service people on the island!  I came in for a bite and some tea and was called "sweety," and taken care of so well. I'll be back again and again!!
